The movie came out in 1990, but was set in 1997, so the near future from the writers and filmmaker perspective. This is not supposed to be a real Los Angeles, but a RoboCop-like exaggerated dystopia.
Gary Busy. The one man on screen I can never truly hate. He is so great. Crazy and funny, full of energy and madness, perhaps ugly on the outside, but a beautiful soul from the inside. We love you Gary, please never leave us.
I really like the Predator world building in this, for example at the start with the gang war you can hear the Predator get excited when Danny Glover takes out a group of gang members in a kind of worthy prey kind of a way
Something modern viewers often miss about Predator 2, Demolition Man, and a few others like X-Men, they're not contemporary for their release dates... They're what's called "in the not-too-distant-future"... ie: a fictionsl world like ours, but a few years away, assuming x issue gets worse. In the case of Xmen its going future enough to make the tech and talk of mutation, acceptable. But in Predator 2 and Demolition, both assume a near-future semi-dystopia of "what if crime in LA gets WAY worse because we didn't deal with it smartly in the present". But yes. In the 90s, LA crime was on the news regularly. By the late 90s, early 2000s, NY and LA, famous for bad crime, got better, at least in the public eye (NY was almost totally reformed from its low point in the 70s-80s). LA grt a little better but largely never solved the karger systematic problems, and now its a dysfunctional city. In 10 years LA will be Detroit, but without low property values, making it irredeemable... IMHO of course. At least detroit is attacting artists and prople eho want cheap housing.
33:01 the bird jump scare is famous because they shot it a few times, and the director thought that Danny Glover didn't look scared because he knew what was coming. So they took a break, and they got Kevin Peter Hall in the Predator costume. THAT is what Danny Glover sees that makes him jump in the take that wound up on screen.
Takes third place on my list... that was quite good still even it was totally different scenario. Still dozen times better than these newer ones. The Predator went full retard mode 👎
That little old lady is the bravest character in film, ready to take on a full grown yautja warrior, armed only with a broom! Lol! ''I don't think he gives a shit!''
The best thing in this movie are Danny Glover's pants... Kidding aside, the best thing is the music. Alan Silvestri was, at the time, still mostly known for TV shows like CHiPs (he got somewhat [in]famous for re-arranging the title song) and lighter movies like Back to the Future, not for hard action. Predator and Predator 2 were a pretty stylistic change for him and proved that he could do anything, and made him one the great movie music composers. It's one of those times where a composer just let go, and was allowed to, something that many composers never get to do, or are not capable of.
These predators are teenagers in training theu have around 100 years old , they can live for thousands of Years , they go to "school " for 100 years to be adilt enough to send them to train on planet earth and other Planets , more hunt more experience and rank have , after every hunt season they develope new Weapons to test on new preys... A little discussion. I was surprised to hear that nowadays they give more long time to make a film. Because I had heard that James Cameron for Aliens 2, for example, was given about 4 years to make his film. I may be wrong: 2 years, 4 years or 6 years term. I do not remember. But he had plenty of time. And I think then they said "a time is a long time to make a film". But it is possible that I am also mistaken because I do not have correct information on the subject. By the way, since you mentioned my favorite topic: "Alien" vs. Predator. There was a channel dedicated to Guyver (Gyver is another bio-mechanoid Alien type being) and the topic there was Predator vs. Guyver. And one of the comments that followed read: "Predator is made for hunting, Gaiver is for war". And I thought, "That's true. I've never thought of it that way. But in this case, Alien is made for mass extermination and genocide." And since I have also accepted the idea that Predator is stronger than Alien, after that comment I thought that maybe there is something wrong in the opinion that Predator is stronger. Maybe not. I'm not sure. Because they feature Predator stronger than Alien and in the games as well. However, perhaps the alien's great genocidal power comes from the fact that this creature is a parasite and disease and can infect its victims in large scales. So anyway. Once again, great channel. 😁

The T800 just pushes Paxton's character back against a gate and he fell down, we don't actually see him get killed.
