Your take at the end is actually a very good take. From what I’ve always heard and read the predator in this movie is basically an inexperienced juvenile hunter. That’s why he’s on Earth with a hunting party rather than being alone. Also why he uses all different sorts of weapons instead of just a cannon and blades, why the first one was able to take out a bunch of special forces guys and in the end not be beat, but take himself out, and this one was taken out by a cop. This hunt was more like a training hunt and right of passage kind of deal. Once Mike killed him in hand to hand combat though, they let him go and gave him the trophy. Of the cast, the captain is played by Kent McCord, who starred with Martin Milner in the long running Jack Webb 60's TV Series Adam-12, it was about a pair of LAPD patrol cops. The reporter was portrayed by Morton Downey, host of "trash-format" talk shows, and Gary Busey is Gary Busey, who early in his career came to notice portraying Legendary Rock Icon Buddy Holly. :)
It's a pretty interesting study of the settings of the first two Predator movies. One is an untamed land of savagery and lawlessness full of deadly monsters and gun fights, whereas the other is a jungle in Guatemala.
I still remember the first time I saw this as a kid in the 90s. :D That flintlock pistol the Elder Yautja (that's what their species are called) gave Harrigan... the date made you realise, they've been coming here for a *long* time. The Xenomorph skull was also great to see, but I really wish they hadn't tried to make the tie-in movies, because they kind of sucked.
Backstreet Boy comment broke me. Gary Busey was at his peak after winning an Oscar for The Buddy Hollie Story. Unfortunately, his life changed due to brain injury from a motorcycle accident.
This was loosely adapted from the comic Predator: Concrete Jungle. After this are Predators, The Predator, both AvP films, Prey and the online multiplayer Predator Hunting Grounds. Lead actor Danny Glover starred in the first two Lethal Weapon films prior to this
This holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Me and my middle school buddies snuck into see this. It was the last film shown at our local cannon cinema (formerly ABC) before it closed. That building has remained empty in my old town ever since. Predator 2 is obviously not on par with the original (the original being a triumph of scifi/action cinema) but it's a darn good sequel.
Bill Paxton has small part in Weird Science (1985) and Twister. He doesn't die in either of them. Bill directed and starred in Frailty with Matthew McConaughey it's really good.
39:51 "They gave _him_ a trophy." In the form of a handgun taken by one of them when they came to Earth on a trophy hunt in 1715. And that's a big reveal. Who's to say how long these trophy hunters have been coming to Earth? Looks like it's been at _least_ a few centuries.
It has nothing to do with a fetus being defenseless. It's a custom among hunters that you don't kill an animal that's in some phase of the reproductive process (copulation, pregnancy or nursing). Not for any chivalrous reasons, but just because a hunter wants to be able to continue hunting in the future, and he can't do that of he's killed all the stock before they're born or matured. In other words, you have to give them a chance to grow up before you kill them. (Ironic that this is NOT how a _predator_ thinks, but they clearly up the naming confusion two or three sequels later.)
There were rumors and hearsay that this movie has/had a Hard R cut version which included multiple extended/deleted scenes one of was extended battle scene with king willie who was armed with a golden uzi which unloaded his entire mag before taking out his came sword.
The first one is excellent... the second is awful. My only quibble with the first is that they sped the life cycle up waaaay more than it had been in the first two Alien films. If the first film was like AvP, Kane would have "chestburst" before he was even out of the derelict!
YES! After seeing your reaction to the first Predator movie and saying you planned on watching Predator 2 I have been eager for this special day, bunnytailsREACTS. Thank you so much and I hope to explore more of the Predator/Aliens franchise in the future. Kudos to another fantastic reaction. 👍
The reporter "Pope" was played by Morton Downey Jr. an extreme character from the late 80s. He was on the cutting edge of trash tv and maybe one of the last regular smokers on a broadcast tv show.
Well... Next Sci- Fi stop for Bill Paxton... "Galaxy Quest", along with Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen and Allen Rickman. You like "Star Trek"'? You gonna love it!
The group of Predators in the film is known as the lost tribe. The Predator that Danny Glover killed was on a right of passage. The youngest of the group. Reckless, over aggressive, and over confident which lead to his ultimate demise. Massively underappreciated sequel. Solid cast. Half decent story. Expands on the first movie and has tonnes of memorable lines and action sequences.
"So I wonder, have they been on the planet for that long?" Not exactly. Earth is not a permanent home for them, but it is one of their favorite hunting grounds, because humanity has had no shortage of great warriors to test their mettle against. And they've been visiting Earth a LOT longer. If you delve deeper into Predator/Yautja lore through things like books, comics/graphic novels, and videogames, you'll find that they've been visiting Earth since at least the age of the Vikings, and probably even earlier.
"Her hair style is fierce." That's Maria Conchita Alonso. Also see her in Moscow on the Hudson with Robin Williams. She won a beauty pageant in Central America.
The Yautja are extremely ancient once a slave race that revolted against their masters. They were originally breed for many purposes but one proved to be a gladiatorial champion. He rescue his people from bondage, and taught them combat. After some time they created a culture devised of hunting the strongest prey on their world, strongest survive etc to purpose of never begin enslaved again. Bored with the game on their home world, they took their former masters technology and transversed the stars for new prey. Hunting is religion to them. They live naturally for hundreds of years.
Twister(1996), for one, features a heroic Bill Paxton. Hero roles don’t often play to his strength, though. If I had to make a choice, this would be my favorite Predator movie. The script, action, and level of movie-making all gel better here compared to the other movies.
BunnyTails - the LA Metro was still being built when Predator 2 came out. so, they used the Bay Area BART system as a stand in. they had a 3 car Train for Filming and went in a Loop from Oakland , CA 19th Street and City center stations as well as Lake Merritt and the Interchange.

Lethal Weapon is another movie series you have to watch at some point. One of the best body cop series with Danny Glover (Mike from Predator 2) and Mel Gibson. All 4 movies are pretty good. My favorite is the 4th movie.
I love Predator 2 just as much as the first! They're just different. Also, True Lies is an awesome Arnold Schwarzenegger film with great Bill Paxton moments!
I have to agree with you, this is not as good as the original.. However, it is better than most of the remaining sequels. If you want to see more Bill Paxton, may I suggest the movie " Tombstone " which is a different genre, but a very good film. I also like watching you get fired up while you are reacting to a movie. Thank you so much and I can't wait to see your next post.. 💖
Another film featuring Bill Paxton that no one else has reacted to is Katherine Bigelow’s “Near Dark”. He was actually featured on the poster for that one. He wasn’t the main character but his image is quite striking.
Now that you have seen the first two Predator films, I cannot wait to see your reaction to Prey. I love that Alan Silvestri composed the music for both films. If you want to see a great movie with Bill Paxton, watch Twister. That is an amazing film and he was amazing in it. The actor who played Captain Pilgrim in this movie, Kent McCord, I remember as a little boy in the 1970's watching on the cop series Adam-12. So that brought back memories of my childhood. And that scene at the end, when all those other Predators show up? Well, let's just say that when I saw this in the theater, my jaw dropped. The actress in this movie, Maria Conchita Alonzo, was in the 1987 film The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's based on a story by Stephen King and, while being different from one another, the story and the movie are awesome.
According to the documentary, Keyes is responsible for sending Dutch and Dylan and the team into the jungle for the first one. Also, there was going to be a line or scene where it’s mentioned Dutch died from radiation poisoning about 6 months later, Arnie was doing Terminator 2 and that’s why he didn’t return for this one.
A lot of the new weapons you see the Predator use in this movie became signature weapons in later franchise entries. I guess that's its biggest contribution to the mythos
This was the first of the Predator or Alien movies I ever saw. When I was a kid, I don't remember how old, I turned on the TV one day and it was right at the part where Danny Glover and the Predator were having their final fight inside the ship. I was so fascinated by everything that was going on. I don't like *all* the movies in the franchise, but I don't think any of them are really that bad, so watch whichever ones you think look interesting. My main recommendation would be "Alien vs. Predator". It has a fantastic lead actress, Sanaa Lathan, who voices Catwoman in the Harley Quinn cartoon (which you should also watch, if you haven't already).
@@mikerodgers7620 Now that I think about it, I must have been about 12 or 13, if Predator 2 was in its TV stage. *smiles wryly* I'm 42 now, and apparently I'm at the age where everyone younger than me is a "kid".
Want more Bill Paxton playing a funny role? Check out "True Lies," starring Arnold along with Jamie Lee Curtis. The other Predators didn't have the appropriate human tags, but they wanted to get away from their wives, so they went on the hunting trip and were just hanging out in the lodge drinking.
Bill Paxton's best leading man role was in Twister He always shined as a supporting character in many other movies like Apollo 13 and Weird Science When we lost him we lost some greatness
As a wee little shit ass one of my fave lines from this was "el scorpio is ready!" imagine some little kid in like second grade yelling that : P Stan Winston was already a legend back then and we loved him : D
So I can’t help but notice… Men in a Predator film: **flashes any sort of weapon for even a tenth of a second** Predator: “FAIR GAME!!!” **proceeds to blast him and rip out his spine** Women in a Predator film: **tries to fight any way she can until the magical plot armor fairy kicks the weapon out of her hands or reveals a barely week old baby in her uterus** Predator: “I’ll pretend I didn’t see that…”
Also, Bill Paxton is the only guy who managed to be killed by terminator, xenomorph, predator and Nick Fury in his career. XD P.S.: If you searching movies where Paxton plays hero, which also not dies there's not too many - Trespass, Monolith and Twister. :)
44:30 Well think of it as a safari trip and those others were just part of the hunting party. This was also a newly "Blooded" (has successfully killed prey before and marked himself with its blood, and is now able to hunt alone without supervision) City Hunter who joined the Lost Tribe (the other predators on the ship) for his first off-world hunt on Earth.
It's a seldom-understood principle about stories with a character-vs-character conflict, but in the event you're going to write such a story around one of _these,_ the _antagonist_ is the most important character. You have to start with _them._ You have to make them _terrifying,_ and seemingly unstoppable. You have to get them _completely_ fleshed out before you even _touch_ the protagonist. But then you have to build mechanisms into the story that allow the protagonist to defeat them in completely logical, believable ways that don't violate the rules of the story that you establish early on. Unfortunately, one consequence of this is that it makes good sequels tricky, just because it's _so_ much easier to adapt a _new_ protagonist to an already-existing antagonist then to go the other _way._ _Predator_ and _Predator 2_ are both stories with such a conflict. But they didn't dare to reuse Dutch, because he was adapted to fighting the predator in the _first_ one. His antagonist was _dead._ So starting over with a new antagonist meant they had to start over with a new protagonist as _well._
While very true Arnold had a choice between doing Predator 2 and Terminator 2 and he chose T2, so the studio had to scramble to rewrite the script and find a solid replacement. But very true you make the ultimate antagonist it's hard to live up to that.
Yeah, you can now skip directly to Prey (which is awesome, btw.) Though the third installment of this franchise ain't bad, if you feel like checking it out. The fourth? I like to pretend that one didn't happen.
Great reaction! I love your perspective. To get more of the Predator/Yautja lore you probably should watch "AVP" then "Predators". They should set you up to watch "Prey" with a deeper understanding.
The most important takeaway from Predator 2 is that the Predators learn from each other and evolve their technology to overcome their shortcomings which is why this yautja had multiple visor settings.
This is one of the very few films where 5 seconds of screen time spawned an entire movie franchise. My friends and I freaked out when the camera panned to the Predators' trophy case and, hanging right above the human skulls, was the unmistakable elongated head of a xenomorph. I had to wait several years until the first _AVP_ movie came out. Your satisfaction may vary with the finished product. While most would say the original movie is better, I give the crew of _Predator 2_ kudoes for taking the setting out of the actual jungle and putting it into the urban jungle. It was a good change-up to make the heroes everyday guys rather than impossibly ripped commandos. R.I.P. to The Extreme, Bill Paxton -- the only guy to fight an Alien, a Predator and a Terminator and get killed by each of them. He fares better against tornadoes. Seriously, _Twister_ would be a great movie to react to (and Bill is the hero).
This period (1980’s to mid-1990’s) was the peak of the crack cocaine epidemic and the crack cocaine wars. The War On Drugs. Violent confrontations between rival drug gangs and between these gangs and law enforcement. This is the historical context in which this movie was set.
One of Paxton's last roles was in the 1st season of Agents of SHIELD, a completely different guy. Predator 2 was pretty good, still my 2nd fave of the franchise. The environment of LA made it an interesting take. So now you have Predators, THE Predator, and Aliens vs Predator 1 & 2 to go!
Bill Paxton also cameos in Arnold Schwarzenegger's Commando. And he's in another Arnold movie with a bigger role called True Lies. He doesn't die in these movies. Bill Paxton is the main character in Twister. Opposite Helen Hunt. No dying there either. He also starred in the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt movie Edge of Tomorrow. One of my favorite movies. You'll love his accent! There is one other movie Bill Paxton dies in. The Terminator with ArnoldSchwarzenegger at the very beginning of the film. Paxton plays a spiked blue-haired punk. In short, Bill Paxton gets killed by an alien xenomorph, a Terminator and a Predator in Aliens, The Terminator and Predator 2. How fun is that? -OG

If TH-cam keeps slowing everything down because of adblockers gonna have to find another place to watch stuff on. It was brutal on this video. Nice job anyway!
This movie is so much better than it gets credit for. It's a different kind of Predator movie. Danny Glover's Mike Harrigan is more of a every man hero. I scream in joy when you mentioned the Xenomorph skull.
The fact that Glover didn't look like Arnold worked in his favor. He was the everyday man who had to rise up and defeat a much stronger opponent. With Arnold, you figured he'd win the battle eventually. Bruce Willis faced a similar situation. Many executives initially didn't feel Die Hard would be a success because he didn't have a physique like Arnold or Sly. He proved them wrong spectacularly.
This is my first video of yours. It's taken me a while to find a young person reacting to these movies from when I was a youngling and taking them seriously, understanding them and enjoying them. Too many people ("reactors") don't do that. Subscribed I have x
As a sequel, the film was very original. I like it. They didn't try to copy the first one, but rather do something new with the idea. Still, the first film was much more exciting and iconic on many levels. I love movies that suddenly change genre in the middle. Of course, this surprise effect could not be renewed in Predator II.
Mass Effect 3! Neat! I am actually in that game! I am friends with a bunch of the people who made the series, and they commonly slip the names of people they know into their games. :)
Wasn’t Kent also in Farscape?
The young people don't know that. And I used to watch the Morton Downey Jr. Show back in 1988. Springer copied his style.
It's a pretty interesting study of the settings of the first two Predator movies. One is an untamed land of savagery and lawlessness full of deadly monsters and gun fights, whereas the other is a jungle in Guatemala.
If you enjoyed Bill Paxton in this movie, you should see him in True Lies (if you haven't seen that one yet)
I have not! It’s on my list 😁
@@bunnytailsREACTS You're going to LOVE True Lies!
@@bunnytailsREACTSMove it to the top. You will LOOOVE it. I promise! 👍
I still remember the first time I saw this as a kid in the 90s. :D
That flintlock pistol the Elder Yautja (that's what their species are called) gave Harrigan... the date made you realise, they've been coming here for a *long* time.
The Xenomorph skull was also great to see, but I really wish they hadn't tried to make the tie-in movies, because they kind of sucked.
'Why does everybody have guns?' It's LA, it's the 90s, it was normal. Now people have even more guns.
Backstreet Boy comment broke me. Gary Busey was at his peak after winning an Oscar for The Buddy Hollie Story. Unfortunately, his life changed due to brain injury from a motorcycle accident.
King Willie knew the Predator was from another world, he thought that meant the Spirit World and was wrong.
interesting fact, Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen played characters in the Terminator, Predator, and Alien movies.
Predators with Adrian Brody is also good.
Bill Paxton has small part in Weird Science (1985) and Twister. He doesn't die in either of them. Bill directed and starred in Frailty with Matthew McConaughey it's really good.
39:51 "They gave _him_ a trophy."
In the form of a handgun taken by one of them when they came to Earth on a trophy hunt in 1715.
Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed by the Predator, the Terminator and Alien
Predators with Adrien Brody is a decent one in the franchise too
Apart from Lance Henriksen.
@@SwordmasterKane Poor Lance never gets this recognition. It is a shame.
Bill Paxton was only thrown against a fence by a Terminator and was killed by the nuclear chain reaction in Aliens.
@@SwordmasterKane Bishop wasn't killed in Aliens. He was still functioning in Alien3.
@@SwordmasterKane ahh yes thats right.....forgot about that
There were rumors and hearsay that this movie has/had a Hard R cut version which included multiple extended/deleted scenes one of was extended battle scene with king willie who was armed with a golden uzi which unloaded his entire mag before taking out his came sword.
I always liked how they gave him a trophy which also told him how long the predators have been on earth.
I actually quite enjoy AVP. Pretty good story, good characters, good fight scenes.
Me too, and it's more faithful to the canon of both than the later Predator and Alien movies (except Prey which is awesome)
The first one is excellent... the second is awful.
My only quibble with the first is that they sped the life cycle up waaaay more than it had been in the first two Alien films. If the first film was like AvP, Kane would have "chestburst" before he was even out of the derelict!
It is enjoyable. I like it too, but the comics about Machiko are way way better.
"You can't see the eyes of the demon until him come calling..."
The reporter "Pope" was played by Morton Downey Jr. an extreme character from the late 80s. He was on the cutting edge of trash tv and maybe one of the last regular smokers on a broadcast tv show.
You deserve about a billion bonuspoints for the mass effect remark 😄
You noticed the Xenomorph skull. Impressive. Most Impressive!
45:25 "It wasn't as good as the first, but still worth watching." Agreed.
Where did you read this? I never knew this I want to know more
"So I wonder, have they been on the planet for that long?" Not exactly.
The original Predator is still the best in the franchise. Although, Prey has been given high praises for its Ferral Predator interpretation. -OG
Twister(1996), for one, features a heroic Bill Paxton. Hero roles don’t often play to his strength, though.
If I had to make a choice, this would be my favorite Predator movie. The script, action, and level of movie-making all gel better here compared to the other movies.
They should have kept the weak love story bit out and concentrated more on the twisters.
Bill Paxton is also in True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
My wife was born and raised in LA when I was helping her move out of her old weekly/dayly apt. off of skid row the elevator moved at the same speed. Old unserviced motors. and equipment.
Lethal Weapon is another movie series you have to watch at some point. One of the best body cop series with Danny Glover (Mike from Predator 2) and Mel Gibson. All 4 movies are pretty good. My favorite is the 4th movie.
Twister. Bill Paxton is the hero. Hes also good in The Edge Of Tomorrow.
"Master Sergeant Farell, you're an American?" :)
The Extreme! Both are great choices.
"Apollo 13" (although Hanks is the lead).
"Frailty" (2001) for a movie where Paxton is the lead and the director.
I saw this in the theater, brain melted when we see the Xeno skull on the ship. Great reaction Bunny! RIP Bill
I second a Tombstone reaction video!!!
Apollo 13 would be another great one for Bill Paxton.
"Twister" where he steals every scene.
Bunny I think this is one of Danny Glover best roles.
Another film featuring Bill Paxton that no one else has reacted to is Katherine Bigelow’s “Near Dark”. He was actually featured on the poster for that one. He wasn’t the main character but his image is quite striking.
yeah was gonna mention this one.. and not only Hudson from Aliens in it.. but also Vasquez and Bishop :D

"So, We Don't Get Arnie, But We Get, Was That Bill Paxton?"
Good Catch, Bunny.
That was indeed Bill Paxton: AKA Hudson from "Aliens"
I think the idea was that the other Predators were the older, more seasoned hunters there to observe and evaluate the younger one.
That would make sense
According to the documentary, Keyes is responsible for sending Dutch and Dylan and the team into the jungle for the first one. Also, there was going to be a line or scene where it’s mentioned Dutch died from radiation poisoning about 6 months later, Arnie was doing Terminator 2 and that’s why he didn’t return for this one.
Bill Paxton played in the films "Twister" (1996), "Apollo 13" (1995), "Vertical Limit" (2000), "Tombstone" (1993)...
0:55 I would just like to point out, this movie came out in '90. So at the time, '97 was futuristic.
You must be young.
@@mikerodgers7620 Now that I think about it, I must have been about 12 or 13, if Predator 2 was in its TV stage. *smiles wryly* I'm 42 now, and apparently I'm at the age where everyone younger than me is a "kid".
Okay@@PaperbackWizard
Want more Bill Paxton playing a funny role? Check out "True Lies," starring Arnold along with Jamie Lee Curtis.
The other Predators didn't have the appropriate human tags, but they wanted to get away from their wives, so they went on the hunting trip and were just hanging out in the lodge drinking.
Haha perfect!!
Bill Paxton's best leading man role was in Twister
He always shined as a supporting character in many other movies like Apollo 13 and Weird Science
When we lost him we lost some greatness
As a wee little shit ass one of my fave lines from this was "el scorpio is ready!" imagine some little kid in like second grade yelling that : P Stan Winston was already a legend back then and we loved him : D
So I can’t help but notice…
Men in a Predator film: **flashes any sort of weapon for even a tenth of a second**
Predator: “FAIR GAME!!!” **proceeds to blast him and rip out his spine**
Women in a Predator film: **tries to fight any way she can until the magical plot armor fairy kicks the weapon out of her hands or reveals a barely week old baby in her uterus**
Predator: “I’ll pretend I didn’t see that…”
Or in the latest Predator movie where a woman does a no hit run like Dark Souls, and people think it's the best thing ever FML.🙄
Also, Bill Paxton is the only guy who managed to be killed by terminator, xenomorph, predator and Nick Fury in his career. XD
P.S.: If you searching movies where Paxton plays hero, which also not dies there's not too many - Trespass, Monolith and Twister.
Unfortunately, one consequence of this is that it makes good sequels tricky, just because it's _so_ much easier to adapt a _new_ protagonist to an already-existing antagonist then to go the other _way._
_Predator_ and _Predator 2_ are both stories with such a conflict.
100 percent agree
The most important takeaway from Predator 2 is that the Predators learn from each other and evolve their technology to overcome their shortcomings which is why this yautja had multiple visor settings.
If you want more Bill Paxton and Arnold, check out True Lies (1994).
The YT channel FilmConicsEcplained has videos explaining the history and origins of both the Yaujtas (Predators) and Xenomorphs (Aliens)
that mass effect clip was 👌
😂
BEST PREDATOR SEQUEL EVER!
This was one of the first films to receive the NC-17 rating due to the strong graphic violence that was cut from the movie.
The actor who plays the 1987 Predator also the Predator in this film Kevin Peter Hall who stand 7'2.RIP Peter Hall
39:43 you learn the origin of that trophy in the later predator movie "Prey"
"We already lost Hudson I can't do it again"
Yeah that's what I've been saying ever since I watched this movie as a kid.
-OG
You are one of my more favorite reaction channels and this was great as usual. - Might I suggest John Carpenter's THE THING (1982) It set the bar for suspense and special effects! :)
Bill Paxton is always delightful, want to watch a movie where he is the primary? Twister, Apollo 13 pop to mind
TH-cam Predator 2 dancing, that alone brings this movie up to S tier.🤣
If TH-cam keeps slowing everything down because of adblockers gonna have to find another place to watch stuff on. It was brutal on this video. Nice job anyway!
This movie is so much better than it gets credit for. It's a different kind of Predator movie. Danny Glover's Mike Harrigan is more of a every man hero. I scream in joy when you mentioned the Xenomorph skull.
I enjoyed it more than people led me to believe
@@bunnytailsREACTS In the end, it's fun, and what else can we ask for?
The Predator is my favorite pop culture character! I love all movies of these franchise!
Subscribed I have x
one of Bill Paxton best performances where he plays the major roll is the Movie Twister , its a lot more exciting than the name sounds.
39:46
You should watch Prey 2022 to learn the backstory of this wee flintlock ;D
Yup, I will :)
Usually background characters, names on notes, and other such thing. I am a background character, with a couple of voice lines. :)
