The black and white original is the best way to watch this masterpiece. It was filmed in black and white and that is the way the film makers intended it to be viewed. The lifeless and artificial colorized version robs this film of so much of its power and impact.

The string tied around the fingers was supposed to be to remind you of something you need to do.

This was the time when my parents grew up. Long before television was invented. People socialized and most people knew how to dance. It was their entertainment along with radio shows.

Back then people would tie a string around their finger as a reminder hack -- when you noticed the string later in the day it reminded you there was something you had to do. Uncle Billy had several strings because he was forgetful. In fact, the string trick only works if you can remember why you tied it in the first place.

I usually don't care for colorizing black and white movies but in this case it was well done and nice for the kind of story it told.

And another great winter season film (perfect for January) is The Apartment (1960) directed by the great Billy Wilder.

I’d love to see you guys react to Inherit The Wind. Another black and white classic movie about the Scopes monkey trial. A teacher in Tennessee that was arrested for teaching evolution in school. I think a lot of men esecially when we are younger will date or be in relationships with these women who are objectively terrible humam beings and treat people like garbage, and are selfish, souless B$@&es who expect us to just think it's cute or sexy or something because they have a V, T's and A. But most men especially as we age a little bit, eventually wisen up and say to ourselves, there are Billions of V's, T's and A's out there. Why am I putting up with this terrible person? Daniel seems old enough to know better. These are the kind of women that will ruin your life and ruin the lives of your children. Women with ZERO empathy. The kind that could not care less about Anything else but getting what they want when they want it. It might be funny now joking about a "psycho" girlfriend. It wont be funny 5 years from now. I feel bad for this guy. And what is crazy to me is usually these kind of women are at least attractive....

Sorry, guys. I started to watch, but had to drop out. I'm an old curmudgeon and colorized black & white movies take me right out of the story.

Wtf? Colorized movies are crapola. Why ruin a classic like this?

The $2,000 George had for the honeymoon was an entire year's salary. George said he made $45 a week which is $2,340 a year. Potter offered George almost 10 times ($20,000) what George made so he would close the building & loan and come to work for him. George did the right thing by not making a deal with the devil (Potter), but wow, that was a lot of money, especially during the depression years! It would be the equivalent of somewhere in the neighborhood of $450,000 a year today 😳 So that $8,000 that Uncle Billy "lost" was a lot of money in 1945-1946 (right after WWII).

Half of the 🇺🇸 is like that one angry juror. HALF! It's also been proven that the worst evidence is eye witness evidence. You can get 5 people to see the same crime or be the victim of the same crime and several will disagree on the height, weight, complexion of their attacker. They will also disagree on what color was his shirt, pant, etc. The kind doesn't work the same on a lot of people when under extreme stress.

It is in black and white.... You can thank Ted Turner for the colorization. He began colorizing classic movies in the 80, believing it would attrack younger viewers to older movies. Actually it's not all acting, the scene where uncle Billy is drunk and yells, "I'm alright", he actually tripped over some of the production equipment offstage... The director (Frank Capra) decided to leave it in. Also, the part where George is in the bar praying, and when he's on the bridge crying, he was not acting. James Stewart had PTSD, and had recently returned from the war. He had decided he would not act anymore... This was his first film after returning.

James Stewart actually was a singer also, and a pretty good one, did a little dancing too.... *BORN TO DANCE* 1936.

This is what you would call a "colorized" version of the movie, done many years later when the technology became available. Many classic old black and white movies were later colorized but many people still prefer to watch the original black and white versions.

Hi Daniel & Lucy, it is a fact IMO, that the `40`s & `50`s produced several of the best Traditional Christmas films even to this day. Sadly, some younger people avoid them, just because of when they were produced or because they are in B/W or both. Which means they miss out on wonderful stories & the Actors/Actresses/Directors, who so successfully brought them to the public. I`m glad more reactors like yourselves are discovering this.

Yes this is colorized. Colorized 2.0. much better than the first time they tried colorization. This time they did well with the shadows. But I stated before its skin tones are off.
