I have this exact carb on a honda xr100 and it wouldn't idle at all, or run very good mid range. After watching your very good video, I was able to clean the carb all up and now it runs like a champ. Thanks a bunch.

This video is so helpful. I used this to help me work on an XR 100 years ago. I picked one up today for 400 bucks and was able to get her running ! Stopped back to the vid for a refresh!
Thanks you very muchJennies Garage. I have a hundred xr200 would not start I came across your video and the step by step was easy to understand and I should tell you I'm a female who know nothing about my dirt bike but ride it. I cleaned my carb and thanks to your easy video my bike now starts

That was an AWESOME video. Planning to do mine tomorrow after work. I got my crf100f when i was 11- I am now almost 26 and she's still going strong with only basic maintenance.
I know this is an old video, I just rebuilt mine. For some reason my 04 CRF100f was missing that one screw that you said its important to pay attention to how tight it was before I took it out. Pretty sure I also bought a Junk rebuild kit, didnt end up working. Just got a cheap one off of amazon and put it on, seems to be running well now. Thank you for making this video, has helped me and alot of people.
Good video, thanks. I will counter, however, that gasoline, especially these days, isn't the best solvent for gasoline-derived deposits. Carb cleaners are better solvents for the deposits and varnish from stale gasoline in a carb. Also, for cleaning jets, a single strand from a wire brush will get in there, and is less likely to open the jet more than you want.
+80sDweeb If you have a really gunked up carb that could be true, but I've always had good luck with gas, even if it needs to soak a while. Nice tip on the wire brush.
Best carb cleaning video and instructions I've seen. I have used welding tip cleaners for various carb jets, and they work really well too. I highly recommend pressurized carb cleaner over gasoline because it cuts crud faster and gets into places that just soaking gas will not clean.
This video was great for demonstrating how to take the carb apart. What I also did was just take the screws out poke the clog out of each screw if there was one, and then soaked it in vinegar I read that some where then soaked it in carb and choke cleaner, then sprayed the carb down with the choke cleaner and it seemed to work excellent

Best video for this model bike and carb, I know your other videos are more fun, but you taking the time to really show all the detail of every little thing has helped me tremendously,im doing the same carb on my 1999 xr100r right now, I'm familiar with jets, but not "needle valves" until today... Thanks, Happy New Year
I was working on my XR 200 carburetor for at least 3 hours your video help out so much because I didn't really know a way around the carb so definitely helped thanks
Great video, thanks! I came here when my XR100R wouldn't idle unless the choke was on. My pilot jet was plugged solid just like yours. It took a long time to unplug. In the end, I could only pass a singe strand of copper wire through it, a tiny hole. Put it back on and it ran like a champ. Thanks again for the great video. PS Lots of 'experts' comment, but they all came to see your video didn't they? Yep. Keep up the good work. How about a float adjustment sequel?
I've looked so long for the perfect video on how to clean and rejet the carb. I have a xr100 and this video looks exactly like my bike. Everything was the same and i can't say how perfect it was!!! Thank you so much!!!!!
The pilot screw innards include a small rubber o-ring, a small metal washer, then the spring, then the screw itself. It will not run well if one of them is missing.
Thanks for the video. Through this video, I think I have diagnosed my wife's XR100R idle issue. I am guessing the pilot valve is clogged. It only idles at very high RPM, there is no low idle. Either way, now I feel comfortable taking the carb of and servicing it. I'll post back if that solves it.
Thank you for this video. You may or may not be surprised but my yz250 manual says not to use wire when cleaning jets. Obviously they are two different machines. I think as long as you are very gentle and careful it would be ok. I think you did a great job.
This is exactly the video I was looking for! My '83 RX 200 hasn't been ridden for quite a while, so its needs some TLC. Thanks for posting a thorough video!
I always have an old broken guitar string (.10 or.11) laying around to help clean out the jets. Gently. Thanks for the informative vids Dude. Love the old honda xr100s.
So glad I found your channel way back when i did. working on my bike and couldn’t find a helpful tutorial, but i knew this vid was somewhere! Thanks man
Good video but NEVER EVER bang on that pin or you can EASILY break off one of those arms. Replace it or clean it or the holes better. Also NEVER use wire to clean jets or it can ruin them by scratching the soft brass and changing the dynamics of gas/air flow. Use air, carb cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners or jet cleaning tools. They are like $10. Dont forget the o-rings and washers too.
Honestly good video!! Like simple easy watch no fuss. Just details. Decent footage. Mint. Was worrier about rebuild but your video has given me faith haha. Thanks man. I like that you explain how things worked. Like the float valve and stuff just opened my mine to mechanics of it all. So good, I work much better when I understand the operation as opposed to just do this cuz I said. Cheers again.
comprehensive except for one omission I noticed. When reinstalling the slide you turned it correctly but did not mention that one must line the groove up correctly. Small thing but if you're not experienced and didn't pay attention when removing, it could be overlooked. Great vid and thanks.
We just bought a 1990 XR250 and have pulled the Carb. It runs but will not idle very well. Do most Carbs need just cleaning like this vs "rebuilding"? Great Vid!
Really good video, I thinlk even beginner will have no problem.Regarding the small hole on pilot jet , is the hole the same diameter on top all the way through because mine is blocked solid. Should the cleaning needle go all the way through
That idle jet was a biitch i whish it were easier to buy a new one, I used a needle from a nice dress shirt still in packaging, which was the thinest thing i found. fuel and air ultimatly opened the whole now im just gonna run fuel cleaner though the carb and hope it cleans itself. thanks for the guide!
2 amazing tips I use for tiny jet hole cleaning is break or cut off 1 wire from a wire brush, or unwind 1 strand of wire from an old scrap bicycle or motorcycle brake cable
Yea make sure you don't lose springs, o-rings and washers for those adj screws they can fall right out and you may not even see it. Also make sure u check your float, preliminary idle mixture and idle settings before putting back together. Set them back to factory settings but like he said remember where they WERE if it dont run right. Use a dab of anti seize or oil on the carb screws. Rubber lube/armor all on rubber stuff.

are you a part time octopus ,impressed with the way you removed/installed a carb with one hand.
@09:40 I think that's the 'emulsion tube'. The carb looks to be the same on the XR125L and some version of the CG125 too.
Wow! this is a very nicely detailed video, I'm a woman, do you think I could clean my own motorcycle carburetor?
Joyce Heim Of course you can. Just because you are a woman doesn't restrict you to doing things like this.
Sure. just be thorough, have a tidy work area and do some research on your particular machine beforehand. Good luck!
what kind of retarded question is this?
"am woman, i ride bike, give me attention"
Im Max Ammo plz give me attention , a woman stealing mine
Awesome vid man full of valuable information... try using carbu clean instead of just gas, it makes cleaning faster

Very clear instructions. Excellent video.

That's ridiculous how well that started. I hope mine starts this good after sitting for 5 years and was not properly stored lol.
well how did it go? I'm in the same boat
Followed video all the way through helped a lot, good video thank you
Awesome, thanks very much. Bike runs smoothly now :)
amazing man thanks made me an extra 200 pounds when selling on my xr 125

I'm glad the video was helpful. Thanks!
Great video. Good job showing the light through the pilots. On future videos you can edit out how to remove a nut or screw for time savings. :-)
Wouldn’t ‘carb cleaner’ be best?

taking mine to get cleaned this week.. finally
Jesus starts up perfectly with one kick..? mine takes plenty of tries - could the carb be the issue or do I need to look elsewhere?

using steel to clean the jets will ruin the soft brass. you really shouldn't use friction on them. soaking a carb cleaner is preferred. if they are really clogged. Use copper wire which is softer than brass
