I love you Steve! For 15yrs I've struggled to start my ancient Honda mower every time. Today, first run of the year, it refused to start no matter what. After your video, I cleaned the carb (didn't see any blockages, but followed your steps), and now it starts on the first pull. Amazing!! Thank you so much Steve; you're a genius.
That’s the confusing thing about these $20 carbs. They stop working fairly quick, less than an hour. So take it and clean it as shown and they will work again. Weird.
You get an "A" from me. Stationary camera with clear video plus I understood every word you said, no mumbling. No extra bullshit either. Among the best.
Maybe because my monitor is so big but at least 720p video would have been great. The 480 resolution was very blurry on my monitor. But I agree, it was at least stable.
Steve...another very relevant video with clear step by step instructions, video focused on involved parts when necessary and clearly spoken instructions. You share your knowledge and expertise in a constructive way that helps me. Thank you.
My son-in-law’s Honda lawn mower wouldn’t start, just cough and sputter. Cleaned the carburetor, drained and flushed the gas tank and it runs like a Swiss clock!! Thanks Steve!!!
A Small Engine Repair shop quoted me $160 for carb clean and oil change. Did it myself with your help. It took a bit longer than I thought but would be able to do it again in half the time. Love the details in your videos--close up shots and comments, and your choice of exotic beer. Thanks Steve!
When someone saves me that much money or entertained me in some way, I'll figure out a way to at least tip them lunch money! I've done that many times! Often, the video makers are too kind to suggest doing that. Remember, many little tips are better than nothing and, if many do it, they will add up to something nice!
Steve, what's awesome is you not only explain each step, you took the time to tell us how to put it all back together again.. No one ever does that on a video .. Thanks Steve ...
I knew nothing about mechanical.... I watched another 5 minute video, which showed a carby that seemed similar enough. I did as instructed. The mower kept starting, running rough for a matter of seconds, then stopping. I stumbled on this video, which is basically the same carby. I get all psyched-up to do this more major work. I give it one last try and it starts first go and runs perfectly 😂. I'm off to mow the lawn. Still, this is a great video and is now saved. Maybe I'll need it in 10 minutes. Thanks!!!
Can't thank you enough Steve. I'm at the summerhouse with no electricity, just this old generator nobody's used in more than five years. Darn thing wouldn't run no matter what I tried. Finally with my phone's battery at 15% I found your video and you showed me how to remove the main nozzle. Only thing I wasn't able to remove and clean before. A long screw helped extract it. That was the culprit, now we finally have electricity. Thank you!
Steve, Thank you SO MUCH. As a woman who prides herself on really participating in the care of my tools and machines, you have completely given me the confidence to do this myself, and not schlepping it into the shop. You have a talent for this, for sure,....lifting an appreciation beer to you!
Steve is by far the best carb guy, just taking the time to explain that you need the exact size screw drive with no flare is a huge value. Way to go man
jason9022 oh really, what do you work on that’s so great? There are plenty of details that can get over looked by plenty of good mechanics. That’s why it is useful for him to mention it. If your so damn good why are you watching this video?
Wanted to say thanks for this video. I have a Gocart with this carb and it wouldn’t start the other day. Only 10 hrs on motor, fresh gas that was treated. Took it apart and cleaned it. It started on choke wouldn’t run with choke off. Realized I had idle screw set too low, turned up idle, now running fine. Thanks again for the tutorial.
Thanks for the video Steve. My push mower was surging and sure enough the main jet was clogged about 50% closed. Cleaning it out fixed the issue. Reminder to everyone to wear safety glasses! One poorly placed spray of the carb cleaner had it shooting right back at my face.
>5 years later... Amazing helpful video. Gonna go take my Chonda (lol) carb apart and clean that badboy up now, along with the other usual maintenance. Thanks again Steve! You're awesome!
My father used to do small engine work. He was not a teacher, he could just do it. This video has to be one of the most, well produced, easy to understand, and useful videos on this platform that ever I've seen. Thank you, Steve.
Steve, great video! It was exactly what I needed to clean and fix my non-running 6.5 HP (212cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Predator 3100psi Pressure Washer (Harbor Freight Item 62200). I bought it several years ago, used it once, drained the gas from the tank, but apparently forgot to drain the carburetor. I guess the gas evaporated and gummed up the carburetor jets, which prevented the engine from running at all. Long story short, I tried fuel additives, carb cleaner, etc. to clean it out but nothing "easy" and familiar worked. After deciding to replace the carburetor for $8 to $40, I was fortunate to find your well done video and decided to dismantle the carburetor and clean it according to your instructions. The carburetor was easy to remove - just two nuts and two hoses. It was indeed gummed up badly with several jet holes clogged. The carburetor was easy to dismantle following your instructions (I thought it was going to be much more complicated than it turned out to be). I had never dismantled a small engine carburetor before and was reluctant to try, but your video really helped. I used carb cleaner, an old toothbrush, and a small brass wire brush to get the really bad gum off. After cleaning the carburetor as you instruct and putting it back on the engine, the engine started on the 3rd pull and has run smoothly since. I would say your video covered about 99.99% of what I needed to know to do the job right and quickly (it only took me about 30-min from start to finish). However, you didn't mention the small o-ring on the end of the pilot jet, which A to Z Rentals & Sales mentions below. My o-ring popped off and fell onto the paper towels I was working over as I was clearing the pilot jet hole. I'm glad I noticed and didn't lose the o-ring because, as this was new to me, I never would have known the o-ring needed to be there. I would have been fine if I had read the some of the comments to your video (always good to do I guess). Anyway, thanks for the very well done and instructive video. You saved me $40 and I learned some new stuff! Now I'm going to look to see if you have a video on storing small engines properly.
Steve, Thank you so very much for all of your time uploading these videos. They are invaluable, genuinely. I do garden maintenance but am absolutely rubbish at mechanics and so any issue means days lost and money spent whilst I get things fixed. Today I was ready to throw away the carb as I thought i had done all I could to it. Had you not showed where carb cleaner should come out of the two holes of the pilot jet I’d never have known it was blocked. It was VERY blocked and took an age to get a piece of wire poking through. Reassembled and second pull of the cord and my DR Strimmer with kohler engine/carb sprang back into life!! I was amazed, and means I can go to work tomorrow. Thank you Steve, Steve in the UK.
Must be the clearest instructional video on you tube that I have come across ,no way is my machine going in for repair anymore now the mystery of carbs and cleaning has finally sunk in to my addled brain cell .
The twist-tie hint - GOLD! I was unable to get tiny paperclip or sewing pin in the pilot jet, but that worked like a charm! It also was the cause of the engine not running. It wasn't until I saw this video and cleaned the carb a second time that I got the engine running! Thank you!
As a shade tree mechanic, I find it useful to take a series of photos, both before and during disassembly, to ease the reassembly process. Great info on what is often a mystifying component- the carburetor.
I have watched this video several times. Since doing so, I have cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor on my Honda HRX mower. As long as you pay attention do what you are doing, it is very straightforward, even enjoyable. The carb is easy to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. Putting it back on the engine and dealing with all the gaskets takes three hands, but what else is new.? I also added an online fuel filter. Easy. Now, before I park the mower for the winter, I use engineered fuel for the last mowing of the season. Then I top off the tank with Trufuel. The mower starts and runs perfectly in the Spring and does so all season long. Steve's advice on each of these topics has saved me hundreds of dollars AND saved me from a ton of aggravation, too. THANK YOU!
Honda lawn mowers come from the factory with an inline fuel filter installed inside the fuel line where it connects to the fuel tank. By adding a inline fuel filter you are now running two inline fuel filters. Being you added an inline filter I would pull the fuel line off at the tank and pull the Honda filter out of the fuel line. Or do the opposite, remove the filter you added, pull the Honda filter out, spray the screens on the filter with carb cleaner, purchase a new length of fuel line, reinstall the Honda inline filter into a new length of fuel line, connect it to your fuel tank and to the fuel shutoff valve.
I wasted 3 days off trying to get my craftsman tiller running for the season. It runs briefly with starting fluid. Never again will I store ANY small engine with gas in it. Out of despair, I found your channel. Awesome to the point video with close ups so your viewers can actually see what you are doing! I can't wait to get back into it, I already had the carb off and doused it with carb cleaner (didn't work). Donation coming, just have to figure out how much!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon any videos on how to properly adjust this type of carburetor? BTW- after removing, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstalling just like you showed- the dang thing started on the first pull!
Watched this video and knocked out two carburetor clean-outs in about an hour on two generators that had been in storage for five years each. Both started right up and now run like they are new. Highly useful and straight-forward training.
Does the Coast Guard permit Tecomsun engines to be used a spare anchor providing there are no connections fuel sources? That would add tons of of use to there entire lineup.
You know...in the 70's and 80's - What I wouldnt have given..for Tutorials LIKE YOURS ! Sure we had "books" (sometimes?) but unless ya had the Exact Model...you were Guessing at best....and Ive Never been a "Book Reader"....Ide read it and "thought" it said Push...when really it was pull, etc. I've been a Hands-On Guy All my life. Chiltons and other repair brands (that MAYBE you could track down at the local Library)..was about The Best...an "Average Joe" could get info on. TH-cam IS A GODSENT....And PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU...Have Pulled All of us....Out of the Dark Ages. Every Video YOU Made....I "hunt down" and Carefully Watch it. Thankyou....from just an "average joe" in Buffalo NY !
Good info, Steve! You Made it look easy. I followed you/your video cleaning my carb. I had to replace the carburetor fuel shut of valve too. It was totally garbage, bad fuel these days.
Great info. Helped me out a lot. Gave son in-law my Honda generator that had about 5 hours in it since new. He needed it for an electrical job. Left gas in it for about a year. With your video was able to strip and clean entire carb. Works like a champ. Thanks, Sláinte
Thanks so much - you did a very good job going over how to clean this carburetor. I had this apart three times before looking at this video. After looking at this I ran out and took it apart again and had the engine running like new. Again thanks - I gave you a thumbs up for this and wanted to add this comment. TH-cam is an excellent educational tool and people like you sharing your knowledge is essential for educating us users.
Steve, thank you for making this video! I have a De Walt pressure washer stored in my shed for a couple of years without using. Your video was the one video who showed me step by step on how and what tools to use to clean out the carburetor. Thanks to you and the good Lord, my pressure washer is running strong again! Thank you!
You probably won't see this because there's so many comments, but I have a pressure washer that has set up for a couple of years with a "Chonda" set-up. Followed your instructions as I have before and this thing runs like new. The only thing I forgot to do was enjoy a beer at the same time. Thanks for what you do.
Steve, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making this video. I have that very carburetor on a Kohler command pro CH270 on my wood splitter which wouldn't run after sitting all winter. So today I took the carb apart and cleaned it while watching your video step by step. It didn't totally fix my problem, but it now runs for about 2 minutes before it dies, which is an improvement. I think my next step is to drain the tank and maybe replace the fuel line. Thanks again.
Great Video! Well done and succinct. My Honda carb was totally gummed up and this got me running again. Thanks!! One minor suggestion to everyone. Don't forget to check the end of the 10mm bolt that holds the float bowl on. It is directly under the main jet and mine was badly coated with flaky loose deposits. I missed this the first time I cleaned my carb and these deposits broke loose and clogged my main jet two weeks after the first cleaning. Cleaned up the bolt using a wire wheel on my bench grinder. Up and running again.
Thank you Steve. Your channel has saved me hundreds $$. From my Stihl stuff to my Honda’s. Pro tip: when using the air jet to blow junk off carb. Not only do you need protect your eyes, you also need pint glass protection. Almost had to throw out my Guinness. After cleaning the pilot jet on my 13 yr old HRX mower… no more hunting up and down. Runs like new.
Thanks, Steve. I turned my mower over right, removed and sharpened my blades, removed and cleaned the carb, put it all back together and it started! I know that was the expectation, but when it works for me, I'm always a bit surprised. Thanks!
Wow Steve, thank you man you've given a girl like me hope that I can fix my own carburetor. You left out the rocket science and made it simple. Thanks again.
Loved your presentation. Have one suggestion-always tell viewers to wear safety glasses anytime they work on gasoline engines or clean a part. Two weeks ago I put a little air through a mower fuel line without putting the cap on the tank. The only thing that kept the gas out of my eyes was the safety glasses. Similar things can happen when using air to get grit out of small parts-don’t want to get metal shavings in the eyes! Thanks, the best, complete instructional video I’ve seen in a long time. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Steve ! Best tutorial I've ever seen on the subject, clear, and instills confidence takiing the mystique from carb repair. Anybody just trying to get the nozzle out and cleaned without the carb being taken off, it WILL come out just by gravity but be careful- it may not come out when and where you expect or want it. Mine fell into the grass and 1/2 hour later I found it. Wish I'd put a clean white big towel beneath the compressor I was working on sitting on the back end of a Gator. Just cleaned the main nozzle and bowl, and fixed it ! Thanks again, Steve !
On of the most thorough comprehensive & simple cleanings of Honda carburetor. He has another video which shows that not only removing the two bolts holding the Carb and a third bolt holding the carb bracket makes card removal & reattachment much easier. Thank you!!
After months of struggling to get my mower to start, I took apart and cleaned my first lawn mower carburetor today. Thanks for making this video! I couldn’t have done it without you!
Best carb cleaning video I've seen. Thorough, clear, all the details I needed were there. Not sure how to reset the idle screw when re-assembiling. I'll try counting the clockwise turns needed to seat before removing.
I just followed your video step-by-step to clean the carburetor on my 30+ year old Honda HR215 SX lawnmower. Up until last year, it would usually start on the first pull in the spring, but these past 2 years, it’s been temperamental. All thanks to you, I’ve got it running again. Just need to adjust the idle speed now. Cheers from Ontario. 🍻
My mower won't run properly. I called the mower shop today and the turn around to fix it it is 3 weeks. YIKES! I just watched this video for the first time. Start to finish. I was able to go out and take off my Honda Carb, and completely clean it. It took me about 30 min from start to finish. It now runs great. Your video instructions were clear, concise, and to the point about what to clean and how to do it. I am super appreciative you took the time to create this video for us. You saved me at least $100.
I haven't cleaned my carb yet, but I think I've watched this video multiple times in the past few years just because it's so well done. A few more watches and maybe I'll try it myself.
Steve, your videos are the best instructional videos that I’ve seen when it involves working on fuel type power tools! Others imitate you but fail short of duplicating your content. Thanks for being thorough!
My finger was almost on the purchase button to buy a new carb for my honda generator, but I thought to do a search on this subject, and yours came forth. So well done from start to finish! (I like your Beer prop also) I had made an attempt to service this carb once before, but you made me realize there are more intricate nuances to this task at several turns, I learned so much! Maybe after doing my Honda tomorrow, I take on my Kawasaki drifter instead of just ordering a new carb. Every turn of learning and success in small engine maintenance and repair is such a joy for me (in a world of shops that just say we gotta order new parts and then say there are shipping delays to cover for their own inefficiencies) Thank you so much! If I need parts or supplies for my immediate and future small engine endeavors, I'll be going to your site and try to get my requirements there first. You are doing it right!
Steve I've watched a lot of small engine videos. And yours are the best. You actually show every step in your instructions. And show closeups of the parts and actually give time to look at them. Thanks for your time and instructions.
As most viewers can agree you have a great way of explaining the steps necessary to clean a Honda or "Chonda" carburetor! Thank you for putting out a good quality tutorial and now I'm going to take off and clean up the carb. on a Honda EX350 2stroke generator that isn't getting any fuel but has plenty of spark. I'm going to re-comment and then if all goes well recommend this video to anyone else who needs to know this or any other of your video tutorials. Again thanks!
Great video! I acquired a Homelite pressure washer with ancient lumpy gas in the tank. I cleaned the tank and changed the gas but this thing was never going to start. I grabbed a couple of beers and got to work following this video. The main jet was plugged exactly the way Steve said. Started on the first pull when I got it back together. Couldn’t be happier.
This video was exactly the information I needed to get my Cub Cadet snow blower up and running. Very clearly presented and super interesting. Saved me having to bring someone out to fix it and total cost was $3 for a can of carb cleaner spray. Thank you for making such a great video.
Marvelous. I am glad to have seen this video. Very well explained. My Homelite pressure washer was not starting. I used your techniques. It worked perfectly. With the very first pull, the engine started. Thank you very much.
Outstanding instructional video. I am not a mechanic, nor have I ever taken a carburetor apart. I acquired a Honda snowblower HS724 and it would sort of start but wouldn’t keep running. I figured it may be from long storage gunk in the gasoline. This video walked me through every step and saved me $$. I was able to successfully take it apart, clean it and (very important) put it back together- it started right up and runs great!! Thanks!!!
you are the best. got my Kohler carb in my hand and just told the wife she has to go and get me some beers if i am to do this correctly. plus, England V Italy in four hours
As others have already mentioned - great video for the steps you covered, and great confidence builder. I followed all the steps, but still no luck getting my 25 yr. old Coleman Powermate HP 3500 generator started. I found that my problem was within the fuel shutoff mechanism which was not covered in your video. Unfortunately I had total blockage right where the fuel enters the carb, and it took a little force to break thru the white powdery material. I was then able to spray carb cleaner thru the inlet, and I cleaned up the rubber gasket inside. Re-assembled, and she started on the first pull. Thanks!
Steve Huge thanks for this outstanding video. After thirty-odd years as an instructor officer in both the British Navy and Army, I can say with confidence that your instruction technique is among the best I've heard. Damn, almost as good as mine ! Happy New Year to you. Bob, Norfolk, England.
Thank you for this helpful video. I am 44 and have always been iffy when it comes to a carb. But you my friend just walked me right through it and now have myself thinking if I would have just ripped into one 30 years ago when I first started working on my own stuff I would probably still have everything that ran with a carb still. Not sure why I have always been intimidated by them. But you took that right out of me. Many thanks again. You completed me full circle. Cheers to cracking another cold one.
Because of this older video, I was able to fix my lawn mower today. It would start, run for about 20 seconds, then die. I was going to buy a new carb, but I decided to try cleaning mine first. I used a bread tie wire to clean the jets. It started right up and kept running. Thanks for the help!! Your information was perfect!!
Steve, you mentioned getting the emulsion tube out with an "Easy Out." Little trick, you can also use a 3" deck screw or wood screw with a fine tip. People usually have one of those on hand but not always an easy out set. Thanks for the vids bro !
Aren't the deck screw threads the wrong way that won't grab the jet the turn it out counter clockwise. An easy out has reverse teeth so you can grab and turn out the jet the right direction.
Thank you so much Steve, your explanations and expertise are a breath of fresh air in a sea of internet smog. Having been very unhappy with local repairs I have now been able to do all of the necessary maintenance myself with your guidance. You’re the business.
Thanks for the video, I watched a different video and cleaning the carburetor was not discussed in detail how to get to the main jet on my Honda Carburetor. After watching your video I was able to get my pressure washer working again. Saved me $150 bucks.!!! Thanks Steve!!
Thanks for making this! My Honda mower was surging after leaving it with fuel in for the winter. The pilot jet was clogged, and I was able to fix it, I would never figured this out myself without this video.
Thanks Steve for tying to save us money. I took my carb off yesterday because it was surging for a couple of weeks. We've been chopping a lot of leaves with it. The air filter was shot to shit so I put on a new one. Yea it got better but it still does the surging. So yesterday I went down and took off the carb. I cleaned it pretty good but not as good as you just did. I did take off that Phillips screw and ran a wire down that little hole. I put the whole dam carb in a bucket of gas and paint brushed it to get all the impregnated dirt off it. You should have seen all the dirt in those little groves between the gaskets for face of the carb and other places. I didn't even realize there was a gasket on the face of the motor. I thought I lost it in the pine needles and chopped leaves below me. It was burnt on with hardly anything left on it. That green gasket was thin to and had indentations all over it from being squeezed very tight. There was dirt all between those gaskets and in those ports. So I cleaned the gaskets and the carb as best as I can .I put it back together and guess what happened. It Yucking ran like Total SHAT. It was worse now than before. It barely stayed on. I broke the seal and now all the gaskets are bad and nothing is covered up correctly. When I went by my favorite small engine shop that I always go to for parts they were closed. It was Saturday after 3. Monday morning I'll go and get the new gaskets and put all stuff back on and see what happens. Al least I took a pic of the model and serial number. If its not the gaskets I don't know what to do. Time will tell. Im working off a steel table basically in the woods next to the house I'm having built. No shop or shed or concrete floor. When I drop a screw or something. I might not find it. I call it GORILLA STYLE SMALL ENGINE REPAIR IN THE WOODs . The lot is completely wooded and I'm chopping the leaves and huckleberries vines down to the close ground. I have a garden tractor but sometimes I can't always use it. All right Its been good watching your videos and I learned a lot definitely. The house is 5/8s done and I want that garage so I can see where those things go when I drop something. Every guy needs a nice worktable. I will be living in newfield New Jersey. Its 4 acres with deer all over the place. The street behind me is a quarter mile with woods between us. There's barely any neighbors because thats the way I like it. I had to ride down the road to get a signal to watch a video on how to put all the shit back together. When it all came apart it happened quick. If you've ever been to the jersey pine barrens. Thats how it looks but theres more oaks that pines around where I live. I'm not actually in the pines but it looks similar. Atlantic City is about 35 miles to the east. All right keep drinking that beer. And thanks for those videos. Today is Dos Equis day for me. These HillBilly Mother frackers around here don't have that good of a selection. I guess I'll have to take a ride down rt. 47 into Vineland or Millville. Look up Millville and you'll see its considered the number one hillbilly town in jersey. Its the kind of town where you see large American flags sticking out of the back of peoples pick up trucks. Flying proudly for the United States of America. VIVA LA USA
A few things I've learned over the years as a mechanic, How brake fluid tastes, How break-clean feels on the naked eye, and how gasoline feels in your armpit.
Super helpful. Thanks. I have another tip. If the plastic pilot jet is blocked as mine was, taking a small gauge round right angle feeler gauge can work to unplug it too. I had to tap lightly with a small hammer to get it to go through the obstruction, but it finally went. Motor now idles smoothly when it surged constantly on idle before.
Great video! Very thorough step by step disassembly-cleaning-reassembly process! Excellent! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge & experience! Sincere regards!
I LOVE THIS DAMN CHANNELLLLLLLLL!! ...but I did ruin a extension cord yesterday because I didn't have a bread twist tie. Them copper wires in them are nice and skinny too!!
Thank you Steve! Just what I needed. Watched a number of your videos lately and this one just saved my Bacon. I had a Troy Bilt with the Briggs plastic carb. You helped me to clean that carb but unfortunately the mower had more serious problems. Local mower mechanic checked it out and I ended up buying a used Remington RM 110 from him. He cranked it and showed me it run, cranked with one pull. Got home and started cutting and it would not stay running. I pulled the carb myself, and thanks to your detailed instruction I got all the crud out of it (it was a mess). Runs like a new mower now. Again, thank you so much for your great tutorials.
My Honda mower has lacked power and after watching your video I managed to dismantle and clean the carby and now I run it at only 1/2 throttle instead of flat out. Great video. Many thanks!
Get yourself another beer you helped to fix and teach the basics of carb cleaning. Excellent video work of showing the spray going out through the low and high speed orifices.. from the pilot yet🍻
I think this video completely applies to motorcycles too. When I used to ride dirt bikes as a young fellow, cleaning the carburetor on my 2 stroke Suzuki was exactly the same.
I picked up a poulan 625 series off the curb with a free sign on it… I could tell it wanted to run… I followed your video and rebuilt a carburetor for the first time. Not bad, a free lawnmower and one less clunker in the dump… I just ran it and I think I’ll get years out of it. Thanks!
Hey Steve! Really dig your channel. Very informative. Was wondering if you could elaborate a little more on the pilot jet O-rings and how they differ from carb to carb. I had a generator with a gx390 where that O-ring was stuck to the carburetor and when It was removed, it just tore the O-ring apart. Another thing I noticed with regard to the O-rings, was when I worked on a kohler XT 675. I noticed there's 2 O-rings, one in the normal spot like on a honda style carb but also one up top. And also, I was wondering where can a little bag of those O-rings be purchased? Thanks for any info! Keep up the great work.
the best video I've ever seen on carburetor cleaning thanks a lot. Just a note to all the DIY ers out there when you're cleaning all those holes in your jets be gentle if you enlarge any of the holes you're going to have problems
best video on carburetor cleaning. I mean this especially for the camera work. I could be wrong but I believe there is only one thing you forgot to mention and that is to map the idle adjustment screw before you take it out. this means the screw by default is not screwed all the way in and you need to know exactly how far it is screwed in by counting the rotations from its set position to all the way in otherwise you will not know how far to screw the screw back in after cleaning.

Hey Steve O !!! That Beer has to be hot after watching. a 20 minute video !! But. A Great advice thou !! on the carb .
The "New carb here" link indicates product "Not Available"
I love you Steve! For 15yrs I've struggled to start my ancient Honda mower every time. Today, first run of the year, it refused to start no matter what. After your video, I cleaned the carb (didn't see any blockages, but followed your steps), and now it starts on the first pull. Amazing!!
Thank you so much Steve; you're a genius.
Great job!
Its that freaking pilot jet every time...
Thank You...
Maybe because my monitor is so big but at least 720p video would have been great. The 480 resolution was very blurry on my monitor. But I agree, it was at least stable.
Perfect video 10/10 no complaints
Steve...another very relevant video with clear step by step instructions, video focused on involved parts when necessary and clearly spoken instructions. You share your knowledge and expertise in a constructive way that helps me. Thank you.
Steve's Small Engine Saloon, I just tried to watch a few other videos on youpoop, Couldn't see shit! Thanks for a doing a great job.
Clearest instructional video I have ever seen, on TH-cam or anywhere else, and I'm 68 years old. THANKS!
Wow, thanks!
My son-in-law’s Honda lawn mower wouldn’t start, just cough and sputter. Cleaned the carburetor, drained and flushed the gas tank and it runs like a Swiss clock!! Thanks Steve!!!
You're Welcome...
A Small Engine Repair shop quoted me $160 for carb clean and oil change. Did it myself with your help. It took a bit longer than I thought but would be able to do it again in half the time. Love the details in your videos--close up shots and comments, and your choice of exotic beer. Thanks Steve!
You're Welcome...
When someone saves me that much money or entertained me in some way, I'll figure out a way to at least tip them lunch money! I've done that many times! Often, the video makers are too kind to suggest doing that. Remember, many little tips are better than nothing and, if many do it, they will add up to something nice!
If you can't do it yourself, this video shows why it cost so much to have it done professionally.
Steve, what's awesome is you not only explain each step, you took the time to tell us how to put it all back together again..
No one ever does that on a video .. Thanks Steve ...
Glad you liked it!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon thanks Steve good advice, gotta lawnmower with a Honda GVC 160 surges at high, dies at idle. This should help.
Cheers Mr
Thank you!
You're Welcome...
Steve, Thank you SO MUCH. As a woman who prides herself on really participating in the care of my tools and machines, you have completely given me the confidence to do this myself, and not schlepping it into the shop. You have a talent for this, for sure,....lifting an appreciation beer to you!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
You make a good point, sometimes transporting it to the shop is harder than D.I.Y. if you know what to do.

Steve is by far the best carb guy, just taking the time to explain that you need the exact size screw drive with no flare is a huge value. Way to go man
Right on Eddy! Thank You...
jason9022 oh really, what do you work on that’s so great? There are plenty of details that can get over looked by plenty of good mechanics. That’s why it is useful for him to mention it. If your so damn good why are you watching this video?
I’ve tackled a Briggs and Stratton carb before, but never a Honda one. With this video, you saved me a trip to the repair shop. Thanks!
Great to hear!
You're Welcome...
I've been rebuilding Honda engines for over 20 years and I never knew the nozzle comes out! That's why I watch these videos! Very nice Steve!
Thank you!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
My father used to do small engine work. He was not a teacher, he could just do it. This video has to be one of the most, well produced, easy to understand, and useful videos on this platform that ever I've seen. Thank you, Steve.
Wow, thank you!
Thank you Steve,
Steve in the UK.
from a fellow across the atlantic in England whose been with beer over small engines a lot, you Steve! are a LEGEND!!!! bless you
Thank You...
A six year old video, but it is still great to watch . Thank you for taking the time to share it.
You're Welcome...
Must be the clearest instructional video on you tube that I have come across ,no way is my machine going in for repair anymore now the mystery of carbs and cleaning has finally sunk in to my addled brain cell .
Wow, thanks!
The twist-tie hint - GOLD! I was unable to get tiny paperclip or sewing pin in the pilot jet, but that worked like a charm! It also was the cause of the engine not running. It wasn't until I saw this video and cleaned the carb a second time that I got the engine running! Thank you!
You're Welcome...
I have many used guitar strings hanging around. .013 is the size I use fir the high E string. Awesome video!
As a shade tree mechanic, I find it useful to take a series of photos, both before and during disassembly, to ease the reassembly process. Great info on what is often a mystifying component- the carburetor.
Great point!
THANK YOU!
Right on Jerry! Thank You...and You're Welcome...
@@jfern199 Understood. My original filter was missing for reasons unknown. So I installed an inline filter.
Right on Pat...
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon any videos on how to properly adjust this type of carburetor? BTW- after removing, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and reinstalling just like you showed- the dang thing started on the first pull!

Thanks so much just fixed my dads carburetor. Thanks to this video. He’s happy again!
Great job!

Lol....Hey - We're All Human !
Right on Buddy, glad that helped...
Steve, thank you for making this video! I have a De Walt pressure washer stored in my shed for a couple of years without using. Your video was the one video who showed me step by step on how and what tools to use to clean out the carburetor. Thanks to you and the good Lord, my pressure washer is running strong again! Thank you!
Fantastic!
You probably won't see this because there's so many comments, but I have a pressure washer that has set up for a couple of years with a "Chonda" set-up. Followed your instructions as I have before and this thing runs like new. The only thing I forgot to do was enjoy a beer at the same time. Thanks for what you do.
Right on buddy! Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Pulled my Honda carb off my pressure washer today and will clean it tomorrow. Thanks. 👍🏼
Good luck!
I love to send your videos to people that tell me their whatever won't run. Saves me a lot of trips to friends who think my time is free.
Awesome!
You're Welcome...
Thanks, Steve. I turned my mower over right, removed and sharpened my blades, removed and cleaned the carb, put it all back together and it started! I know that was the expectation, but when it works for me, I'm always a bit surprised. Thanks!
Excellent!
Wow Steve, thank you man you've given a girl like me hope that I can fix my own carburetor. You left out the rocket science and made it simple. Thanks again.
Glad to help
So did it work out for you?
Loved your presentation. Have one suggestion-always tell viewers to wear safety glasses anytime they work on gasoline engines or clean a part. Two weeks ago I put a little air through a mower fuel line without putting the cap on the tank. The only thing that kept the gas out of my eyes was the safety glasses. Similar things can happen when using air to get grit out of small parts-don’t want to get metal shavings in the eyes! Thanks, the best, complete instructional video I’ve seen in a long time. 👍👍👍👍👍
I’m pretty sure that he mentioned safety glasses
Right on Bob....

Great to hear!
Best carb cleaning video I've seen. Thorough, clear, all the details I needed were there. Not sure how to reset the idle screw when re-assembiling. I'll try counting the clockwise turns needed to seat before removing.
Excellent video! I just picked up a used Honda mower and now feel comfortable taking the carb apart. Thanks, Steve!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Right on
My mower won't run properly.
I am sooo happy to hear that!
I haven't cleaned my carb yet, but I think I've watched this video multiple times in the past few years just because it's so well done. A few more watches and maybe I'll try it myself.
Thank You...
Fantastic video, I followed his instructions to the letter and she started up in one pull. Your the man!
Great job!
Steve, your videos are the best instructional videos that I’ve seen when it involves working on fuel type power tools! Others imitate you but fail short of duplicating your content. Thanks for being thorough!
Wow, thanks!
Thanks! I cleaned out my carburetor and the lawn mower is working great now. You saved me a few hundred dollars.
Great job!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Steve I've watched a lot of small engine videos. And yours are the best. You actually show every step in your instructions. And show closeups of the parts and actually give time to look at them. Thanks for your time and instructions.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I go back to this video every time I need to fix one of my Honda style carbs. Thanks!
Any time!
Always use carb cleaner before you try to remove the jet, this will help to break down the residue buildup/ the main jet will come out a lot easier.
Good luck!
Nice work!

Awesome and You're Welcome...
Thanks!!!
Glad it helped
you are the best. got my Kohler carb in my hand and just told the wife she has to go and get me some beers if i am to do this correctly. plus, England V Italy in four hours
after stripping, cleaning and replacing the gaskets i find it was the idle adjustment all along. shouldn't drink while trying to do this stuff ;-)
You're Welcome...and Thank You...

Yep😂
Thank you for this helpful video. I am 44 and have always been iffy when it comes to a carb. But you my friend just walked me right through it and now have myself thinking if I would have just ripped into one 30 years ago when I first started working on my own stuff I would probably still have everything that ran with a carb still. Not sure why I have always been intimidated by them. But you took that right out of me. Many thanks again. You completed me full circle. Cheers to cracking another cold one.
Wonderful!
Right on Frank! Thank You...
Steve, you mentioned getting the emulsion tube out with an "Easy Out." Little trick, you can also use a 3" deck screw or wood screw with a fine tip. People usually have one of those on hand but not always an easy out set. Thanks for the vids bro !
Great idea!
Aren't the deck screw threads the wrong way that won't grab the jet the turn it out counter clockwise. An easy out has reverse teeth so you can grab and turn out the jet the right direction.
This guy. This is my guy. He’s good.
Thank You...
Thank you so much Steve, your explanations and expertise are a breath of fresh air in a sea of internet smog. Having been very unhappy with local repairs I have now been able to do all of the necessary maintenance myself with your guidance. You’re the business.

Replacement "G" string from a guitar shop also works for jet cleaning.
Also, the Honda throttle cable replaces the low "E" string on most Japanese-made guitars.
My wife catches me looking at G strings it's gonna cause problems.
Thanks for making this! My Honda mower was surging after leaving it with fuel in for the winter. The pilot jet was clogged, and I was able to fix it, I would never figured this out myself without this video.
You're Welcome...
VIVA LA USA
A few things I've learned over the years as a mechanic,
How brake fluid tastes,
How break-clean feels on the naked eye,
and how gasoline feels in your armpit.
Outstanding video Steve, you got my log-splitter running again! Clear, concise and no BS (as someone else noted). Your videos are some of the best!
Glad to help
Seeing this helped me a lot! Snowblower is now up and running like a champ! I'm a subscriber now!
Right on Buddy, glad that helped...
Awesome vid, im 14 and my dad said he would give me money if i fixed our 5.0 honda pressure washer, this video helped me do so. Thanks!
You are very welcome Buddy...Great job....
Great video! Very thorough step by step disassembly-cleaning-reassembly process! Excellent! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge & experience! Sincere regards!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this video. It was what I needed to get my generator running again.

Thanks for passing on the knowledge. Ridiculously helpful to everyday wreckticians.

Get yourself another beer you helped to fix and teach the basics of carb cleaning. Excellent video work of showing the spray going out through the low and high speed orifices.. from the pilot yet🍻
Thank You...
Great solid info... I will be linking this vid whenever I get question from people on how to clean a carb.
Right on Nick...

Keep up the great work.

this is a great site and I'm happy to say he has helped me a lot,

If you happen to have an old guitar string laying around, it's what I use to clean.
I like this. It makes use of something that is past its useful life.
Same! 👍
I have the guitar strings.
works well.
the best video I've ever seen on carburetor cleaning thanks a lot. Just a note to all the DIY ers out there when you're cleaning all those holes in your jets be gentle if you enlarge any of the holes you're going to have problems
Be very careful. The wire is so thin. It broke off inside for me.
best video on carburetor cleaning.
A great video, Steve! I have my pressure back! Hope you have a great day, my man.
Thank You...
