This is brilliant. Best carb video on TH-cam! Thanks for your help and explanation! I FINALLY get it! You've got a gift not only as a mechanic, but as an excellent teacher. Thank you!
i know Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
This is by far the best explanation video on TH-cam and that's no bullshit. I'm more of a hands on and visual learner. I love how you demonstrated with the water bottle. This video is 10/10.
I love your no BS, nothing fancy, no music, just simple easy to understand informative videos! I'm a hobbyist who just loves to buy broken stuff and fix it up and also do all the mechanical work on my own vehicles. Your videos have been super helpful and I love your channel! One thing I don't remember you mentioning on this video was the idle screw adjustment.
I pulled apart my first and only rusty old motorbike carburettor about 10 years ago, that was a nightmare and a half but I prevailed in the end. This was a great reminder. I'm almost back where I started, having just ripped apart a throttle body, idle valve, MAF & PCV on a car for the first time ever. Been cleaning things out with toothbrush & cotton buds :-) Got to tackle some oil leaks next. I got the tools & the time but no garage of my own to learn my tinkering so I haven't come very far in 10 years. But videos from generous souls like yourself make things much more accessible for those of us that never grew up learning this stuff. Hope you're doing well and thank you so much again.
You should be an instructor at a college somewhere! I've worked on carbs for years and believe it or not I really didn't know exactly how a Venturi system worked! I appreciate these videos ty
Hey man, good video. Really helped me to understand carbs, never really got them before. The demonstration on the Venturi method was what helped the most, no other video has covered that.
I'm a fully qualified vehicle technician, and i have only ever worked on fuel injection systems. The old boy in the garage dealt with carbs etc whilst i was scanning and reading ecu faults and fectifying. 16 years down the line and i finally understand what bits do what on carbs. Thank you ever so much, by far the best tutorial vid I've watched on here and ill definitely be subscribing. cheers
I've been restoring my grandpa's kawasaki bayou 220 for my son and I finally got it up and running...roughly! (sat for 5+ years) I appreciated you covering functionality of each jet and part. After I clean it completely I will now know what to go back to if certain problems occur! Thank you so much!
I wish I had found this video earlier. That's the exact carb I just finished messing with. I've never touched a carb before, but I got it working. Thanks for the video now I know exactly what I'm doing with my 3-wheeler.
You, Sir, are a natural born instructor. I've never fully understood carburetors until this video. Thank you for breaking it down plainly and using great demonstrations to explain your points. The "Homer choking Bart" one was the best! Definitely the best video on TH-cam about carburetors!
Thanks so much for this great basic carb video. I always sorta knew how they worked, but this takes the mystery out of it for me. I currently have a bike that runs but does not stay idling. The bike sat for almost a year and I'm betting the low speed jet is gummed up. Thanks again.
briansmobile1 i 2012 ktm 2 stroke 125 dirtbike. i don't know what's wrong with the carb? when it's in the low rpm it goes fine, but then when i am about between low and the powerband. it runs kinda rough or a little rough. then when u open to the power band it's smooth. so i don't know what i need to fix? i cleaned the carb already.
yep !!! take it apart, clean it and put it back together. i lay my parts horizontally in sequence of disassembly. i also draw a diagram, if its new to me. if it doesnt work, repeat.
Just started researching Carburetors - mainly for Lawn Mower repairs. This is one of the best explanations of how the air / fuel mixture works that I have seen. Thanks so much for taking the time to help us out!
We didn't have internet growing up. We carried jets and plugs in our tool bag and made adjustments according to altitude and temp. This is a solid video for rookies.
Many thanks and much appreciated. As a budget-limited DIYer, I've had to let my bikes sit for a while due to lack of funds to deal with the myriad of issues, but in the interim, apparently one of the local kids was screwing around with one of the bikes and turned the choke down all the way and left it there, the strain of which snapped the plastic enricher cap where the choke cable connects to the carb. I have the cap on order, but since I had the carb off, and she's sat for the last two years, I decided to give the entire assembly a good once over. Your video was invaluable for this, so again, many thanks.
I'm 50 years old. I NEVER KNEW the clip at the top of the pin adjusts with the c clip to set the rough idle speed. You've saved me a ton of time and money!!!!!! By the way, 9:45 or so in the video is where the magic happens.
Appeared to me the screw/jet/needle or whatever it is lol, fell out when you inverted the carb back to vertical and you didn't notice it. I'm talking about on the air jet you discussed on the outside of the bottom of the carb. And I'm not certain either. Anyways great tuitorial !
Hey thanks a million for the instructions. It's been at least 15 years since i cleaned a carb out, and seeing that my bike has been sitting idle for over a year it really needed it!!! Your video just brought it all back, took me a bit more than an hour and bike started first go!!neatly explained :)
Excellent video...for a first time owner (and soon to be rider..) this is a clear and concise explanation of what the carburetor does and how to safely clean it.... First Time jitters often make the simple unnecessarily complicated; thank you for making it easy enough for the non-mechanic to understand and hopefully, address the problem themselves ...
Thank you..I've been watching carburetor videos for a week and never learned anything about them.. you just told me the cure for my problem.. thank you again..
+lcantrell123 Of course. Typically the $30 or whatever for the rebuild kit is well, well worth it. I've done many the cheap way and then had to re-do them. The second time I'm often shocked how much better the bike runs!
i cleaned many carbs without replacing orings, but make sure you take them out before cleaning because carb clean and other solvents can burn the rubber making it stretch.so if that happens you will need to replace o rings
You are the MAN! I just went from knowing that one of the screws on a carb would let me run richer or leaner, to being able to figure out what all the screws, needles, etc. do because of your excellent explanation on how a carburetor works!
7:38 you can see the piece fall out that he is looking for. I'm yelling at the screen, "it dropped, it dropped!" I like to think he eventually found it.
Wow! This video is EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I've read and read and read about carburetors, and this is the first time I've actually understood what is happening inside of them and why they work. I only recently bought a bike (75 CB200T), and I feel like I can start to diagnose some of the problems I'm seeing. Thank you thank you thank you!
Wow. Totally clear. It's like "Carburators for dummies", wich I am. I'm no mechanic ( I wish I was), but, thanks to your videos, I will certainly understand what my shop guy is desperatly trying to explain to me! I will surely take a look at others of your videos. Thanks you Brian.
All the comments here agree. Best explanation of how the Venturi concept works that I've never seen before. Brian: "I empower people to understand and fix their vehicles." So true to your channel description. Thanks for all you do!
This video is so well put together on many levels. It wasn't too technical, but at the same time wasn't super dumbed down either. Just a great video! You're a very smart guy. Thanks!
Great video! I worked on carburetors when I was younger but no one ever went through and actually explained their operation like you just did. I wish I would have seen this then, it would have made life a lot easier.
Hi Brian. Just got myself a 250cc Bashan which has a similar carb that you feature in this video. My bike was struggling to start and after watching your video i realized that the fuel mixture screw was turned out more than 6 turns. adjusted it to 2 and bike starts and runs really good. Thank you Brian
I'm very green to the world of mechanics and small engines as I just bought my first motorcycle ('07 KTM 250 XC) back in September, so when I found this video I was impressed by the level of detail yet simplistic nature with which you describe the function of the carb. I feel confident that I can get to work on cleaning my bike and eventually jetting it. Thank you for your help! Subbed!
Clear, relaxed, and pin point explanation. I found your page whilst I was looking for info on crf 450 stuff. I'd just like to say thank you for taking your time to make your video's. Your videos have allowed me to understand and have the confidence to maintain my bike. Keep the crf 450 video's coming. Many thanks and best wishes Mick.
Thanks for the help. My Keeway 150 cc has been siting idle for 7 months and took some time to get it working again. This helps me so now I am going to take the carb off and try to clean it up. It is sluggish right now but I think I understand what you are talking about. Thanks very much.
Thank you for taking the mystery out of the carburetor. I have rebuilt a few and have never got them to work properly. But now I will. Thanks again. Great and simple to understand video.
Just bought my first bike---99 nighthawk 750. I have somone helping me do much of the work, but he was not able to explain it in a way I could understand. This helped me a ton in understanding the low pressure created by air blowing over the main jet. Things moving fast, such as air or water create lower pressure relative to another substance not moving as fast. Same principle in the curve of airplane wings, I believe, which is something I am a little more familiar with. Anyways, huge help and thank you.
Great job on explaining things. There's a lot of videos out there that tell you how to clean a carb and what not,but they never explain the way it actually functions. learned a lot thank you sir.
Wow Brian this is a GREAT tutorial! I am getting ready to tackle a carburetor clean out on my son's LT 80 and was afraid to tear in to it not knowing exactly the in and outs of one! Quite intimidated until I watched your video! Wasn't sure what I was going to run in to bc its has a Wiseco racing Piston and it's ported and polished! I have worked on vehicles and small engines since a young teen but have never messed with carburetors! Someone turned all the adjustment screws that scares me bc I won't have that ability to count original set locations of the screws! Wish me Luck! LOL! I've got to get this though for my son and make his day and hopefully make him look at me as an unsung hero atleast one more time in his life LOL! Thank You for sharing your knowledge with all of us out here!!!
Excellent video. Have a 03 NT650v, carb'ed. Do all my own stuff but have never gone near the carbs because I didn't understand how they work. Well, NOW I do! Thanks for your great video - no nonsense, just easy to understand explanation. Great!
By far the best tutorial I've seen. Coming from a newbie that's starting my first bike restoration, most info is way over my head. It's one thing to know haw things work, its far harder to explain them. Thanks
Thanks man. I've always stayed away from working on carbs because many say they're too hard to work on. After watching this clip, I want to start tearing apart carbs right now!
Probably the most helpful instructional video I've ever seen on TH-cam. Keep it up I like all the detail and how you explain the physics behind how things work.
Bro.... this is probably the most informative carb video I have ran across, I've been looking for mo ths and finally understand why my bike isnt running thanks to you...lol It all makes sense now !!!!
Thx so much, my dirt bike was running like a piece of crap and was leaking gas!now I figured out that the plug piece was missing and fell out. I found it and my dirt bike is running very well,Thx again saved me so much money!
Thank you so much for this video, I bartered for an old bike that spits and sputters when I give it gas. I changed the plugs and caps, which it probably needed but didn't make a difference so my mechanic buddy told me my carb is probably gummed up. I am new to this and you explanation made sense to me. I feel confident to try and clean it on my own!! Sarah
Nicely done, man! I have a fuel injected CRF250L, and despite having a Ninja 500R years ago, I never ventured into carb adjustments or tweaking on my own. I just purchased a new-to-me 2000 EXC 200 and your carb video really helped me understand what I'll be dealing with in my future of carb tweaking. Thanks much and keep up the great work!
What a great video! Thanks for clearing up the mystery. It is so hard to find a trustworthy bike mechanic around here, but now I have the confidence to finally pull those carbs and get my bike running again. Just an excellent explanation!
Hey Brian, Good vid! The overflow tube is not on the side of the carb, it is the brass tube built into the float bowl. The port on the side of the carb is the bowl vent, and on dirt machines, needs a tube to go up high, so as not to get water, etc in the carb. Great explaination of the venturi effect/ vacuum generator! Thanks
i've needed to remove and clean the 4 carbs from my 79 suzuki gs550 and i've been terrified to do it in case i fuck up. i've spent hours looking at videos trying to figure out how to do it. your video is the most straightforward interesting and simple explanation of how carbs work and the cleaning of them. Gonna tackle them carbs this week thanks to you. cheers man!!! if i fuck them up i'm blaming you!!
Wow! Great video. I had read a book on Rochester carburetors and did not quite understand the venturi principle, but your little demonstration really helped me to understand it. I now have a better understanding of how carburetors work, thanks to you. Keep up the great videos!
Wish I had watched this video a year ago when I started restoring an ATV for my son. I finally got it to run...very roughly...but this will definitely help! Thank you so much!
Thank you. I've been looking for a video such as this for some time. As well, as a teacher of many years, your explanations are excellent: simple, easy to follow and not a lot of jargon.
This was actually super helpful. Thanks for the good information and demonstrating the fine points (throttle position, floats, jets etc) that most instructors assume everyone knows.
Thanks so much for posting this video. Been using small engines my entire life and never had anyone explain a carb as easy as you did! Had my YZ act up on me recently, I know what I'm looking for now. "Awesome video"
Thank you for such a detailed explanation. I've seen several videos with 3D models, but seeing real carburetor with such a good explanation is completely different level!
This helped me so much. I am working on a Honda XL 100s carb and I could not figure out what the air mixture screw was. Mine has a little tab so it only turns half a turn when assembled. I thought it was like that to hold the bowl to the top end of the carb. I had no idea it had a function! The bike still sputters a bit when I hit 30 so I'm rebuilding it with new jets and a new float.. Thank you very much for delivering a very easy to follow tutorial!
Thanks for putting in the time buddy. I'm having an issue where the bike won't start and it's looking like I'm going to have to get in to the carb and give it a good clean. This video has eased my apprehension somewhat. Thank you
Didnt know anything about carbs. Looked this up and learned a great deal and was very educational. Great job presenting it. Really appreciated the venturi principle demonstration
You are the man! I'm working on carburetors in a Kawasaki Ninja and a Vulcan right now, and I feel way more like I understand this part of the engine. Now I just gotta make sure I understand why one of those air filters is all moist with gasoline...
Thanks. I just bought a gy6 139qmb chinese 50cc scoot scoot and it's forcing me to learn a bunch of things about engines. This is a great video. Loved the explanation of the Venturi
Thank you for that great synopsis! I've known the terminology for years, but how it all came together has always been a bit of a mystery. It all makes so much more sense now!
I knew the venturi, but watching this video, i had an epiphany and solved the issue i had been having and couldn't figure out, very well made video/knowledge/teaching
dude, years after this video was made... you're still helping people out. thanks for the vids, man. great content, thorough and straight to the point. and that venturi thing... i had never seen it in action hahaha
I'm so glad there are people out there willing to take the time to make videos like this. The venturi principle experiment was awesome!
Yea, right?? I'm super impressed!
This is brilliant. Best carb video on TH-cam! Thanks for your help and explanation! I FINALLY get it! You've got a gift not only as a mechanic, but as an excellent teacher. Thank you!
Great presentation.
I agree, best explaination of a carb I've seen or had actually.
i know Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Rylan Gideon instablaster ;)
Jason Skinner me too!! brilliant video!!!👭👍
Can you guys help me with my carbs
th-cam.com/video/2xNO1YjNfX8/w-d-xo.html
It's less than a minute plz!!!
Hey man, good video. Really helped me to understand carbs, never really got them before. The demonstration on the Venturi method was what helped the most, no other video has covered that.
You have a great manner about your delivery. I loved this basic tutorial. Thanks so much.
I'm a fully qualified vehicle technician, and i have only ever worked on fuel injection systems. The old boy in the garage dealt with carbs etc whilst i was scanning and reading ecu faults and fectifying. 16 years down the line and i finally understand what bits do what on carbs.

Now this guys a teacher for sure!!! You are so thorough dude, God bless and thanks.
Possibly the best video ever put on youtube.
I found your water bottle/carb explanation very helpful. Thank you for making this video
Your welcome Braeden! You're feedback is very specific- thanks!
Excellent venturi principle demonstration. The best I have seen so far. Thanks for the tip.
+Rochdi Tidjani agreed
One of the extremely detailed video i have come across. Loved your in-depth explanation.
Thanks!
briansmobile1
Brian I really hope you noticed the spring fall at 7:40 haha that rolled off to the left of the screen shortly later.
CatchMyThrowingKnife
Yes of course. Thanks.
briansmobile1 thank you and that was a very helpful tutorial.and yes im beginer

Bobby Hobby you likely have 3 jets. Maybe your mid jet is clogged?

Great video. I'm new to carbs and this is helping me learn.
Thanks Mr.Dirt sir. I'm glad I could be of service to you!
Great video. made it simple and easy to understand. Good job.
Thanks for watching Dallas!
Thanks, I never could get that from a book. Very helpful having someone who knows, explain it.
Welcome David, thanks for subscribing!

One of the absolute best descriptions of carb function on you tube. You are a natural teacher presenter mate! Kudos!
Hey thanks a million for the instructions. It's been at least 15 years since i cleaned a carb out, and seeing that my bike has been sitting idle for over a year it really needed it!!!

I was going to say that.
Thanks, liked your video on carbs

I seen it too lol
great video man, thanks a lot, really learned a lot from this.

i like the fact that you pointed out exactly what "symptom" is linked with what problem in the carburetor, keep up !
*THANK YOU* for your CLEAR, CONCISE explanation of how these contraptions work! You've DECLOAKED the mystery of carburetion! Thanks again!

+Jeffrey Perschon Wow! Thanks Jeff!
Bro.... this is probably the most informative carb video I have ran across, I've been looking for mo ths and finally understand why my bike isnt running thanks to you...lol
It all makes sense now !!!!
Sarah
gosh! This guy just gave the simplest explanations on car by and how it works, now I fully understand this venturi principles, thanks man!
Huge help to me and helped me get my 2007 EX250 running like it's new. You break down and explain concepts very well, making your videos very helpful.
+daddister Thanks! Thanks for the like and subscribe too!
Quite literally this has been the most helpful and informative video I've watched on TH-cam. Thank you so much, man!
Its very easy, concise&totally unmatchable demonstrations of machnism of carburetor, nice job
Thank you
Carbs demystified! I always understood the basics but this video made it all 'click' in my head. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Thanks for the video. You did a great job explaining the basic fundamentals of a carb. One of the best and easiest videos to watch about carbs.
Didnt know anything about carbs. Looked this up and learned a great deal and was very educational. Great job presenting it. Really appreciated the venturi principle demonstration
Awesome video. Watched many other carb tutorials but none explained it better than you. Fantastic!
You are the man! I'm working on carburetors in a Kawasaki Ninja and a Vulcan right now, and I feel way more like I understand this part of the engine. Now I just gotta make sure I understand why one of those air filters is all moist with gasoline...
That was a really good explanation . I knew roughly how a carb worked but you made it so easy for me to understand fully. Thanks.
I have a test on this tomorrow. Definitely feeling much less nervous right now. Thank you so very much!
