You know what is the most strange about the Alterrans is that for several dozens millions years they have already mastered fusion nuclear and maybe have access to singularity . I was wondering why we didn't see the Cityship being powered by secondary large fusion reactor core . I mean they do used wind and solar power and have already use cold fusion for their stargate . A civilisation that old may have technology that allow them to produced efficient and powerful fusion reactor core at the very least .
@Eaglestorm27 you would think, but no, the lantean used the Zpms and was like, "This is good. I like this. Let's not have any backups or secondary generators. let's not forget that the lanteans were arrogant and overconfident, so it probably never accoured to them outside of project acturus, which tried to harness zero point energy from the host universe the zmps where the top power source and with the ability to make as many as they wanted why not just have them that's my thinking anyway
I do agree about the secondary backup enegy source. But when it comes to it, ZPMs are the pinacle of energy output. They are easy to use and for Lanteans they must have been easily replaceable. A reactor would probably need some degree of maintance from time to time. So for them it probably came to a decision between "easy to plug in little battery with a power of a singularity" vs "big and bulky reactor that we have to take care of." Once again the pride, vanity, and arrogance of a race that thought themselves superior to anything they came across rears its ugly head.
@@ben17ism Perhaps , however let me tell you one thing . Plan will not last long if you don't have any backup systems to make sure you don't die . Yes , ZPM are astronomically far more powerful . However , I'm pretty sure while the Alterrans may be able to produced ZPMs relatively fast , they may need secondary energy source to fullfill their energy requirements ; what could stop them say developping highly efficient fusion reactor since they have a great understanding over fusion reaction or better what has stopped them to research antimatter . You want safety and ensure your civilisations , you make sure to have easy access and cheaper power source and a fusion reactor definetly answer that . Back in 60 millions years , the Alterrans could lolnope suns with their destiny Class , the fact that ship managed to resist the stars heat and tapping in their reserve to use as power source say a lot . What has stopped the Alterrans say continuing over the power source?
From their perspecitve - ZPM's were easy to make - so a fussion core was a massively inferior tech and then - they have had 3 redundant ZPM system in place so if one failed they still had two in reserve - more than enough to quickly swap the empty one if needed. Basically they have had way superior and easier to handle power source handy so creating bulky fusion tech that had way more limited output seemed as stupid from their point of view. from their point of view it looked like this - hey we have almost limitless power supply - let's not make pedal operated power generator because it makes no sense. Aka a case of just because we can it doesn't mean we should.
And you did see them use alternate sources of power like that city on Athos and the super volcano on the other world. But they thought their way was better and through their arrogance and hubris they couldn’t see other ways to accomplish things.
I've always wanted to do a size determination in my CAD models to find out just how big the city is. It appears small. We don't have many reference of it's size in canon. McKay says the size of Manhattan but I'd like to scale the central tower compared to human being seen on the out side of the tower. There are only a few references that fit. 1. During the Seige as the Camera pans down in one smooth motion from the main tower to a lower tower. 2. When the city is struck by asteroids. The Puddle Jumper skimming against a tower to avoid a collision. 3. Adrift when Shepard and Zelensky jump between a gap made by an asteroid collision in a building... Of course their is the problem that two ...maybe 3 different CGI models have been used for the city. It would take too much time to do and I'm in college, but this is likely the best data for determining the true size
Brilliant video, always interested in learning more of Atlantis. Edit and your delivery was on point 🫡 Keep up the great work. Also if you wanted to remove the black outline to your cam gate. Try making the black a green colour and using a chroma key to remove the green or make it transparent but that’s a little harder.
@10:00 That image is actually showing Daedalus landing in the water. You can see this more clearly on a 4K TV screen. I froze the moment when I pulled up the episode Siege. Those small towers along the border are the same towers we see Rodney standing next too when he's standing at the edge of the city when Dr. Becket died. That's definitely water the ship is landing on. What's most....interesting is that Daedalus is being portrayed at less than half the size of a short industrial building behind it. This would make Daedalus very small compared to the city Atlantis has 6 piers. 3 Industrial Zone Piers (these are the piers with the circler feature at end of the pier where the drones are fired from. The Residential Piers have tall towers.
You forgot that the shield can also be converted to an anti-replicator weapon... And when it comes to the finding of the ZPM manufacturing facility, I would have thought that if there were one on Atlantis, then they would have found reference to it in the database, and there is no way the strongest city the Ancients had did not have that info in it's database . It would be a primary requirement to find one of these facilities, yet it was never mentioned in the series. But more than that, in Before I Sleep, the old Elizabeth told them about planets that had a ZPM, and she got that info from Janus...if there was a manufacturing facility on Atlantis, why not just tell them about it then??? Or even better, automate the city to make them while it waits and leave a few there to be swapped out when the team gets there, and Elizabeth wouldn't have to sleep for 10,000 years....if they can build a city that automates almost everything else, why the hell wouldn't they automate the creation and replacement of the power supply???
Sorry that I’m late on this, but really good video. Cool to hear about some of the stuff from the books, like why the Asgard decided to give tech to humans, or the Lantean Party City. Will need to check those out.

And from what was observed in the show - that wan't the case.
@krzosu it's possible that lantean food production was from a food replicator technology rather than crops. It's not shown in the show any lanteans agriculture, so I would assume the lanteans produced food and water from within the city but that's my best guess

@greg1769 170 to 200 floors in the main spire but as its a city many building are different heights so it varies accross the city and thanks I had fun creating the video
if you watch the old godzilla cartoon episode collosos of atlantis the city in that actually flew at the end of the episode and this is where the idea of atlantis being able to fly in sg atlantis
I’ve said it before but there must be a place in Atlantis to manufacture drones. I understand why they didn’t write in a drone or ZPM factory in Atlantis because that would be way too OP and break the power scaling and stakes in most scenarios… or force them to introduce a new power scaled opponent, making the wraith irrelevant. That was already done with the Asguardian tech in SG1. How the Ori made the System Lords pointless. Still, it only makes sense that Atlantis could make drones. It’s a literal city, there is room for factories.
@ManicPandaz I imagine there is a facility on the city that can manufacture drones its just not found yet, or the understanding to create them is not understood yet ether way both zmps and drone are like to be produce in the city along with other lantean tech it's just not discovered by the expedition yet
Atlantis was almost the size of Manhattan, so there were lots of spaces to explore. So there were probably several production facilities for a variety of things mainly ZPM's, drones, and medical supplies. Probably, puddle jumper engine and body shops. You never know.
This is just one more reason they lost to the Wraith. Zero tactical awareness. Without the shields, these city ships can't operate in space. It's a terrible design
They were mainly scientists. They didn't need to fight wars aside from the wraith and Atlantis was made long before that conflict. It's not that the city can't operate without the shields, it's that it is a city developed during peace. It's a fortress through technology, but it's not a warship. No city ship government would take a population of hundreds of thousands to a battlefield and risk losing the shield in space. That's why instead of fleeing during the siege, the lanteans never simply left the planet and just sunk it seeing as they were invincible with the shield on. It could both save the city and avoid the wraith from getting it.
OK, I can’t remember in what episode of what season they said this in but Dr. McKay stated that there were multiple power rooms so it’s not just run off of three ZPMs now this might mean that three ZPMs power, the shields and hyperdrive but the other power rooms have other ZPMs for back up systems
@waldo0072 In my research, I only found the one power room for zpms, not atlantis, was powered by 4 or 5 naquadah generators that the tauri brought with them maybe that's what you hear also there is many power distribution centers around the ship as well but only one power room at the base of the tower
@colinscutt5104 it's only a mention to the history side of the anceints in this video as the city ships was a competing project with destiny at that time in there history I shall only be mentioning the cmbr if it required going foward
I wonder when and where Atlantis was on Earth and if it was the same Atlantis written about by Plato? i know Atlantis was Abandoned by the Lanteans 10,000 year ago, but it seems too big of a coincidence that Plato mentions Atlantis some 2500 years ago or so Dicenna is actually Discenna, which, in Ancient, means "to learn" You also didn't the alternate version of Elizabeth Weir that went back in time 10000 years ago Naquadah generators only give of a FRACTION of the power needs of a ZPM and even with dozens of them working together, barely power the shields The sheer number of rooms located in the city is so vast that even after 5 years of living there they still haven't explored all of them. This doesn't even count hidden labs like Janus' lab The alternate Dr. Weir from 10000 years ago had to wake up every hundred years or so in order to rotate the ZPMs to allow them to last that long
@dragonweyr44 The atlantis story's where storys that humans were told by the surviving lanteans when they returned to earth, atlantis left earth from Antarctica, but this was between 5 and 10 million years ago before us humans so any story's of atlantis must of been heard after the evacuation of atlantis
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y Still, the Plato tale comes grom 7500 years AFTER Lanteans abandoned Atlantis And we don't know that Atlantis was IN Antarctica, only a small outpost was For all we know, it could have been in the Mediterranean off the coast of modern day Greece somewhere
@@dragonweyr44 History can be distorted as it is, but while there is no proof, a remaining Lantean or the Asgard for them could have fabricated what Plato wrote about. They might have seeded this even before Plato to let the Goa'uld think it was just another stupid local legend. The thought of the Goa'uld finding the Antarctica outpost alone is a nightmare. If they had found Atlantis itself?
@@Dreamfox-df6bg Well, we know that Lanteans survived on Earth for some time in some form or other as the Ancient gene survived in the human population as we know that O'Neill, Sheppard and Beckett all have the Ancient gene But as far as any Lanteans surviving in the flesh, so to speak, THAT is highly doubtful The Asgard are a possibility, but, as far as we know, they kept their activities to Northern Europe and Scandanavia Other aliens have visited Earth as well. The fish like Ohne visited Babylon (Fire And Water) in season 1 and giant mist aliens, whose species were never mentioned visited the Mayans in season 3 (Crystal Skull) There is a chance that the Nox and/ or the Furlings might have visited as well, but there is no proof of it on Earth To put it bluntly, no one could possibly know who told Plato about Atlantis
@@Dreamfox-df6bg Could a surviving Lantean have told that tale to Plato? That is highly doubtful. After 7500 years of living on Earth, there wouldn't be any Lanteans left to tell the tale We know that the Lantean gene survived as seen with Jack O'Neill, Lt. Colonel John Sheppard and Dr. Carson Beckett and, I think, Major Lorne. but not the Lanteans themselves As far as we know, the Asgard stayed in Scandanavia There were other aliens on Earth besides the Lanteans, the Gou'ald, the Unas and the Asgard though The fish like Ohne were in Babylon (season 1 Fire And Water) and the giant mist aliens lived with the Maya (season 3 Crystal Skull) Any one of them might have talked to Plato about Atlantis
That whole suicide thing by the Asgards never made any sense to begin with - they were fully capable of storing their minds in the hardware - thus they could have moved to become a cybernetic or even wholy robotic society - them killing themselves off was absurd and an example of lazy writting to quickly close that part of plot points.
@krzosu possibly, but one could say the asgard preferred the option of death over transferring their mind to machines. once they trusted Earth with their legacy and their mantel, they all decided to end it stepping aside for earth to take their place . Let's not forget they were all thousand of years old, mind wise, at this point, with no way to reproduce. I imagine death is welcome after such a long life, you know, so I understand everyone saying the asgard could use machines or computers, but would they, tho. just because they can dosent mean they wanted to, but that's my opinion
@GodOfWar109 Oh yeah, the plans for the city ship were being drawn up as destiny was launched in the comics. It directly states this now yh the comics might not be considered cannon by I've included all stargate informations
Alterans were not on earth at the time of building/ sending the destiny. They were in another galaxy altogether, possibly the original one where the Ori had resided. The only time the city ship of Atlantis was on Earth was during it's short stay in San Fran bay. The great plague - the one which the Lantian people were fleeing, is the Wraith species. Not some kind of infectious bacterial, viral disease. The city ship on the replicator home world is not one the ancients ever inhabited, it is a facsimile, a replication, constructed by; the replicators. After the attempted genocide of their kind.
The Stargate series is one of my favorite pieces of syfy ever. Great analysis. Keep up the good work.

No it's in the water it's just not easy to see if but if you look at the hull you will see water splashing up a little and then returning to normal.
@matthalo871 if you are referring to the daedalus yes I say that in the video the clip shows it in the water not on the pier that's why I put it in the video I always thought it landed on the pier only until I researched this video I found out it didint
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4YI did too but it makes sense
How many floors? Great overview.
@greg1769 170 to 200 floors in the main spire but as its a city many building are different heights so it varies accross the city and thanks I had fun creating the video
So, what happened to a ship left floating between galaxy's?
It wasnt destroyed?
@@OurWorld6699 in the short story it was just left there floating abandoned
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y That's actually rly good
I would like to see an episode with destiny meeting Atlantis
if you watch the old godzilla cartoon episode collosos of atlantis the city in that actually flew at the end of the episode and this is where the idea of atlantis being able to fly in sg atlantis
You never know.
i love that show. i like it better the SG-1
@jeffreylanum3850 for me I like all stargate equally as one continues story as I can't pick my favourite
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y you have a forever fan in me. great video.
This is just one more reason they lost to the Wraith. Zero tactical awareness. Without the shields, these city ships can't operate in space. It's a terrible design
We saw a similar arrogance with the Tollans.
"We have the best and they can't beat us, so why improve?"
Why is it a problem ?
The shield ran on one zpm during the show and never failed
And in the lantian times, it was running on 3 zpm
Atlantis was built at the height of the Ancient civilisation long after they'd pacified the Milky Way Galaxy - there was no one left to fight.
Hubris has never caused any problems? Right?
OK, I can’t remember in what episode of what season they said this in but Dr. McKay stated that there were multiple power rooms so it’s not just run off of three ZPMs now this might mean that three ZPMs power, the shields and hyperdrive but the other power rooms have other ZPMs for back up systems
@waldo0072 In my research, I only found the one power room for zpms, not atlantis, was powered by 4 or 5 naquadah generators that the tauri brought with them maybe that's what you hear also there is many power distribution centers around the ship as well but only one power room at the base of the tower
Thankyou for not explaining the CMBR no one here needs that
@colinscutt5104 it's only a mention to the history side of the anceints in this video as the city ships was a competing project with destiny at that time in there history I shall only be mentioning the cmbr if it required going foward
I wonder when and where Atlantis was on Earth and if it was the same Atlantis written about by Plato?
i know Atlantis was Abandoned by the Lanteans 10,000 year ago, but it seems too big of a coincidence that Plato mentions Atlantis some 2500 years ago or so
Dicenna is actually Discenna, which, in Ancient, means "to learn"
You also didn't the alternate version of Elizabeth Weir that went back in time 10000 years ago
Naquadah generators only give of a FRACTION of the power needs of a ZPM and even with dozens of them working together, barely power the shields
The sheer number of rooms located in the city is so vast that even after 5 years of living there they still haven't explored all of them.
This doesn't even count hidden labs like Janus' lab
The alternate Dr.
@@SCI-FI-NERD-DRMCK4Y Still, the Plato tale comes grom 7500 years AFTER Lanteans abandoned Atlantis
And we don't know that Atlantis was IN Antarctica, only a small outpost was
For all we know, it could have been in the Mediterranean off the coast of modern day Greece somewhere
@@Dreamfox-df6bg Well, we know that Lanteans survived on Earth for some time in some form or other as the Ancient gene survived in the human population as we know that O'Neill, Sheppard and Beckett all have the Ancient gene
But as far as any Lanteans surviving in the flesh, so to speak, THAT is highly doubtful
The Asgard are a possibility, but, as far as we know, they kept their activities to Northern Europe and Scandanavia
Other aliens have visited Earth as well. The fish like Ohne visited Babylon (Fire And Water) in season 1 and giant mist aliens, whose species were never mentioned visited the Mayans in season 3 (Crystal Skull)
There is a chance that the Nox and/ or the Furlings might have visited as well, but there is no proof of it on Earth
To put it bluntly, no one could possibly know who told Plato about Atlantis
@@Dreamfox-df6bg Could a surviving Lantean have told that tale to Plato? That is highly doubtful. After 7500 years of living on Earth, there wouldn't be any Lanteans left to tell the tale
We know that the Lantean gene survived as seen with Jack O'Neill, Lt. Colonel John Sheppard and Dr. Carson Beckett and, I think, Major Lorne. but not the Lanteans themselves
As far as we know, the Asgard stayed in Scandanavia
There were other aliens on Earth besides the Lanteans, the Gou'ald, the Unas and the Asgard though
The fish like Ohne were in Babylon (season 1 Fire And Water) and the giant mist aliens lived with the Maya (season 3 Crystal Skull)
Any one of them might have talked to Plato about Atlantis
Right they literally had human form replicators... just try to recreate em... its not like they took huge pride into their bodies lol
Editing.
U need to read the return of the ancients. It’s a better explanation
The city ships have to be WAYYYYYY after Destiny. The tech on destiny is ages behind what we see in the city ships.
@GodOfWar109 Oh yeah, the plans for the city ship were being drawn up as destiny was launched in the comics. It directly states this now yh the comics might not be considered cannon by I've included all stargate informations
Can’t watch your channel because of the clunky voice delivery. Great potential and info but you really need to edit your mistakes out. ✌️
After the attempted genocide of their kind.
the destiny was launched from earth so yes they was on earth in the milky way galaxy its stated in the show and the comics
