I am a fan of the Sovereign, But it's good to see That starfleet .Learnt their lesson with the Galaxy that they gave this ship a Gunship It can deploy at a moment's notice. Overall not a bad ship 👌
I love the production value for this episode. It shows how much you love this ship. Probably my current favorite, cus I friggin love the Oddy too. Also, rubber duckie room is on deck 4 on my ship, or is it?
This is my second favorite ship, closely following behind my favorite Akira-class. While its the design aesthetic, carrier capability, and torpedo launcher count that attracts me to the Akira, almost everything about the Odyssey is just a big YES for me. And now that we have a proper internal schematic (though not deck-by-deck), it is on par with my favorite. Always gives me more appreciation for a ship to know the actual details about its design and what it has. And the bridge is absoLUTELY gorgeous, it fits the whole Star Trek aesthetic to a T, while being unique from any other hero bridge we've seen. On a side note, my 3rd place ship/s are the original Dyson ships, with that marble white hull and dark grey lines that sometimes had purple lights. Absolutely love them, they maintain a trekkie look, while being alien in origin. Love the whole idea of their use of different technology too, such as the proton weaponry, gravimetric torpedoes, protonic metaphasic shielding, and so on. Plus, the science destroyers could transform slightly to armor some weakspots and the secondary deflector, and reveal heavy proton cannons. And the Obelisk Carrier? love the whole idea of a carrier that mass-fabricates swarmer drones.
Awesome breakdown. This highlights why the Odyssey-class has easily become my favorite, if not top five favorite, Starfleet class. Personally, when it comes to the backstory, I prefer the STO timeline over ST: Pic. The Sovereign-class closed out the 24th century as the flagship of the fleet. The Odyssey-class was to be the new flagship for the beginning of the 25th century.
Big ships deserves more love in sci-fi, they're always the punching bags in most media. Give them what they deserve, they are suppose to be the best of the best.
Thanks for this video! The Odyssey class is more impressive than I thought. With all the new ship classes (Odyssey, Neo-Constitution, Sagan, Inquiry, Pathfinder, Reliant, Excelsior II...) , it would be really interesting to see their sizes compared to each other and to the original hero ships. 🙂🖖
Given that Scotty was on the design team for this ship, the look of the Aquarius craft takes on a new feel to it, given that it sort of invokes the shape of the Jenolan where they found him.
Beautifully designed ship. The low armament is confusing, though, as it was supposed to also be an anti-Borg ship capable of carrying the flag in wartime. I thought I read somewhere that it also had the updated variant of ablative armour, and something about the RCS thrusters being miniature impulse engines to keep it nimble. That might be outdated beta canon stuff, though.
I mean, we know starfleet are a wee bit thick. This thing should have the deployable armour tech from Voyager, Beverley's transphasic shields, transphasic torpedos from Voyager, dual warp cores for redundancies, multiple core shield generators for rotating recharge, and so much more. They should have surveillance cameras everywhere, and security routines which lock on to any unknown DNA and beam it into the buffer. Instead, they go for BS like saucer separation and MVAM. Gimmicks. Very silly. "Captain, the - are boarding us!" "Computer, defence mode 6" "bssshp" "Intruders neutralised and ready to be beamed one at a time to the brig" 😂😂
Remember that these are phaser strips as opposed to the traditional banks and given their placement given the Odyssey 360 degree phaser beam coverage. That being said it should be able to boast more torpedo tubes. That seems a bit of an oversight considering this was built in response to the Scimitar and Negh’Var.
Not necessarily (low armament=bad Borg) We know from the Destiny Trilogy that SF policy on anti-borg weapon/tactics is closer to "sniper rifle" rather than "machine gun" Now while it could be argued that the more tubes firing at once, the quicker Borg shields would be overwhelmed... But it also increases the risk that if your weapon (say, a transphasic torpedo with variable subspace geometry) isn't powerful enough to 1-shot KO then the more times you fire it the greater chance the Borg will adapt to it, so you only really "need" 2 or 3 tubes (1 main, 1 back up, and a spare) for those super weapons
@@auricstorm It occurs to me after reading your post that anytime 8472 encountered the Borg they only really needed to pop off one really big beam to end the fight before it could ever really start.
Given the massive size and wide mission profile i like the idea of using saucer separation as more of a utility than the galaxy class. i.e. leave the saucer in orbit around a central world/place of importance as an impromptu base of operations/temporary starbase, while the drive section and Aquarius continue semi independently running missions to nearby systems, feels like it would have great implications for speeding up deep space exploration, or managing inter-system operations. Staffing three ships with such a complicated setup might be weird though, at the very least requiring the officer in charge to be designated fleet captain, and possibly justifying a permanent admiralty presence on board?
You can't fool me, I know it's really the Oberth II class. ;) Seriously though, I'd love to know more or see something about that arboretum and whale section.
That bridge variant shown briefly at 13:40 pays homage to TOS and TNG by combining elements of both the original Enterprise's bridge (the front), and that of the Galaxy class (the rear).
Did the Enterprise F survive the Battle of Earth Space Dock? Did we get a ship/base casualty report afterwards? Did we really see Earth Space Dock get destroyed or just disabled?
The Odyssey Class has actually grown on me over the last couple of years, thanks in large part to Picard Season 3. My only real complaints with its design are with the placement of the Bridge along with its ridiculous size (personal preference: I like the Bridge lining up evenly with the Sensor dome beneath the Saucer, and while I like certain aspect within the Bridge, I prefer it not being the size of shopping center; call me old fashioned, but as a viewer I prefer the intimate feel of the TOS/TMP/Various TNG-era bridge sizes.) My other issue is with some refit designs of the Odyssey having forward leaning pylons for the Nacelles, which makes the ship look an ugly turkey as opposed to an Elegant Bird with the swept back pylons. The only ship design that forward pylon configuration works for is the Galaxy Class. Speaking of the Galaxy Class, with the Odyssey Class being significantly larger than the Galaxy and the state of the Galaxy being in relative peace, does the Odyssey ships have civilians/families on board?
@@khidorahian If you consider what went down in Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Picard with A.I. intelligence running the starships, somehow, I strongly doubt Starfleet would have learned any lessons, families included. 🤣
Hoping you get to a dedicated breakdown for the Constitution III, Duderstadt, and Echelon classes eventually 👍 Odyssey class is definitely impressive, but my all time favorite is still the Sovereign class.
I always envisioned this as an Explorer type starship for extreme deep space operations and colonization. Given the size and slipstream, it functions more like a mobile Starbase being able to supply small fleets and deploy outposts on new worlds.
Honestly if you're going full on to fight the Borg. I wish they also had added a spinal particle lance. Similar to the Galaxy Class Dreadnought. Spinal weapons are so rare in starfleet and they look surprisingly good placed on the lower saucer section.
I agree new star trek series using the " Enterprise F " starship with crews from several other ships . It would have old and new people watching the series and extend the Star Trek legacy more and bring back the excitement and pleasure being new and old together.
I refuse to accept " _Only things on the screen are canon_ ". But more importantly, this isn't the complete breakdown! D: You didn't mention the variations! There's a dedicated Science, Tacial and Engineering Variants!
Even though the F was decommissioned early? I doubt that it’s the last we’ll see of her, she’s slated to join her predecessors at Athan Prime, and, I would like to think, will probably be there until she’s called again in 2410, one year after the Enterprise-G is sacrificed to prevent an Undine invasion, when she’s possibly recommissioned for one last cheer, and one last battle through time itself. I think she would win the day but be critically damaged due to her handicap, But if that does happen? Something tells me she’d partake in similar origins to her Successor’s original predecessor, and would be stripped down and rebuilt from the frame up, into the Yorktown-Class Enterprise-H.
Yeah a.voyager redo Pull er.out Struggle to keep her going But like the falcon she has it where it counts and always performs when needed. That's it The falcon in star trek
This, and its many variations in Star Trek online, are legitimately one of my favorite ship classes in all of Star Trek. If you’re curious which variant is my overall favorite, it’s probably the Yorktown.
Only explanation we have is in star trek online where it got trapped in fluidic space and fought the undine for several days before it's warp core caved in
During the time when a friend of mine got me to playing the first ( or second? 🤔 ) Star Trek Armada Game I somehow managed to end up on a Star Trek Forum ( probably also because of him ) where at the time they ran a contest of designing a new Star Trek Hero Ship with I think the basic guideline just being that it should easily be recognizable as a Federation designed Ship. Plenty of submissions had already happened at the time I entered with nothing _really_ standing out ( except for stuff _really_ not following the Guideline ) and having just watched Voyager I was kinda enamored with that ships lengthwise stretched design over the Galaxy Classes Oval one so on I went into 3DS Max and whipped out a _very_ rough low poly model ( no textures, no Greeblies, etc... ) of what one would now identify as an Odyssey Class Ship with its two Pylons connecting the Saucer with the rest of the Ship in a flowing manner ( creating that empty space in-between them when looked at from the front / rear ) which people liked _a lot_ back then since a) it _was_ still in the spirit of the Federation and b) it still looked different enough. Haven't followed up what happened to that Hero Ship Contest but man... Seeing the design of the now Odyssey _really_ makes me question the outcome of it - If you get what I mean 😏
I love your videos, and particularly when you talk about the Impulse drives. But, does the impulse drive not push the craft faster than light speed, because I seem to remember a TNG episode where the Enterprise D travels from Neptune to Earth in 9 or 19 minutes, Wesley was driving.
Full impulse power is .25 the speed of light, which equals 167,654,157.25 MPH. The distance between Earth and Neptune is over 2.8 billion miles, which would take over 17 hours at full impulse.
wow,I've been looking for info on the Odyssey for three weeks now. Where did you get the information on things like the Warp core size, Impulse model, ship layout?
I remember when this was released in game in wasn't that popular, it got called the space whale. We get a free sample if you completed the mission arc, though it came with nothing the paid for versions did for obvious reasons, think of it as a free sample. I think, though I am not sure it was not that good a seller either. "It's too slow/clunky/unmanuverable/etc" yet I loved it you just had to learn to work with its' limitations like any ship in the game. In the same way I wasn't fond of escorts (DPS), I didn't call them rubbish I just didn't like them as I couldn't work with them sci (healer)/cruiser (tank)/carrier (sort of mage) yep just not escorts. I only replaced it when I finally coughed up cash for the Rademaker line, or more precisely saved up enough zen from the exchange. My memory may be wrong be, though I am getting on a bit so it is more likely, I thought there was a transporter "bay" for wants of a better word on the main bridge of the Odyssey line.
All the video's I've binge-watched of yours has finally convinced me to play STO (on XBox, cause I can't do a keyboard) and I LOVE the game. Can you tell me though, how to get the Odyssey class you use? I see different variants so I'm just wondering... Just starting though, at level 56 so getting there.
It's strange to say but when I first saw this ship in STO art, I thought it was pretty ugly. But over the years it's strangely grown on me and become something I actually like and appreciate. The Sovereign will still always be the most beautiful Enterprise in my book but the Odyssey did manage to worm its way into the top 10 of my favorite designs. Maybe even the top 5.
So the darker portion at the front of the saucer are for ramming? Fantastic, the Picard maneuver as seen at the end of Nemesis must have played some factor in designing it in.
Zhiv/Ren SR-83 impulse thrusters, eh? Nice to see Shield of Tomorrow referenced. (I know you can also find the Sally Ride and get it as an admiralty ship, near the Nerandra (sp?) system in sector space)
I’m just glad they finally realized these ships are big enough to carry their own escorts. You get tired of a simple shuttle being the only other choice.
The Odyssey Class successfully combined the sharpness and practicality of the Sovereign Class with the pomp and excess of the Galaxy Class. Truly a ship of it's time. It's design tells anyone that encounters an Odyssey Star Cruiser that this is a ship of diplomacy and exploration that will not only defend itself if necessary, but is capable of making an incredible amount of mess in an incredible short time.
One of the ships I would love to learn more about that I think was only in a game is a Theorgy class. I think that is a sharp looking ship. Though I would do something similar to this for the bridge instead of what it has.

We need more of this lovely ship in a series or movie with this ship we should have had this as the main hero ship in Picard
"So.... you folks have come to our planet on a mission of peaceful exploration?"
"Indeed."
"... and this peaceful exploration necessitated you looming over our planet in a ship visible from the ground, a ship large enough to hold the standing armies of at least two entire planets, enough arms to knock a planet out of its orbit, and enough armor to withstand getting hit by said planet, with sensors so intrusive you could probably tell me the exact moments of my last three erections, and what I was thinking about at the time?"
"... look, man. Space is beautiful, but space is big, and space is mean. You'd be amazed how few space-faring powers will agree to sit down in a drum circle and talk about their feelings. It's not zero! But it's not enough."
I can’t wait to see you cover The Dervish class. You got me hooked on that ship and I still use it. The rear turret has saved me more than once.
This is a genuinely gorgeous ship!!!
Very good ship breakdown. I think one of your best yet.
back when i played star trek online it was great showing up in one of these and giving all the escorts and science vessels a ship to rally around
As a long time STO player I've always loved the Oydessy. It looks like a gentle giant, but when push comes to shove she can more then defend herself.
Lovely ship and delightful to hear such a thorough briefing on her wealth of innovations.
I love the scope of this analysis. I can tell you like this ship
I hope we get to see this class on-screen again one day.
I want to see ans Enterprise F show with Captain Shon as the hero
I always thought it would be a cool mission for the Odyssey class. To go through the Bajoran wormhole, and head back to Earth "the long way round".
Such a lovely ship... And a biggun'! Great video. Great subtitles. Thanks for it!
You didn't mention the extensive amount of Emergency Top Hat Storage on the bridge of the Odyssey class ships 😁
Odyssey Class is my 3rd favourite, great design!!
Yay!! I’ve been waiting for a new revision of this breakdown. Love the Odyssey class!
45 decks? She carries her weight better than the Galaxy class. She looks more proportional and less top heavy, no pun intended.
Given that Scotty was on the design team for this ship, the look of the Aquarius craft takes on a new feel to it, given that it sort of invokes the shape of the Jenolan where they found him.
I.M.O. This is the most beautiful ship design in all of Star Trek 🥰
Gimmicks. Very silly.
"Captain, the - are boarding us!"
"Computer, defence mode 6"
"bssshp"
"Intruders neutralised and ready to be beamed one at a time to the brig" 😂😂
Remember that these are phaser strips as opposed to the traditional banks and given their placement given the Odyssey 360 degree phaser beam coverage. That being said it should be able to boast more torpedo tubes. That seems a bit of an oversight considering this was built in response to the Scimitar and Negh’Var.
@@icedreamer9629 Still no warp capability on the detachable saucer section. Might as well have it powered by oars.
Not necessarily (low armament=bad Borg)
We know from the Destiny Trilogy that SF policy on anti-borg weapon/tactics is closer to "sniper rifle" rather than "machine gun"
Now while it could be argued that the more tubes firing at once, the quicker Borg shields would be overwhelmed...
A beautiful ship.
Pretty slick and smooth from the side.
The first km+ ship in Starfleet.
The Vengeance. But that is NOT the normal continuity.
There are Star Wars style "super carriers" that make the Connie Refit look like a worker bee. They're just not mentioned outside the books.
km+?
@@NeoTechni
Longer than 1000 m.
Let me guess... The Odyssey will be on par with Venator-class Star Destroyer in terms of size right?
You can't fool me, I know it's really the Oberth II class. ;)
Seriously though, I'd love to know more or see something about that arboretum and whale section.
The Ulysses is my main ship in STO, it started as an Odyssey but was refit to a Lexington class
I don't think so. I think starfleet learnt their lesson from that era and probably will never do such a thing again.
@@khidorahian If you consider what went down in Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Picard with A.I. intelligence running the starships, somehow, I strongly doubt Starfleet would have learned any lessons, families included. 🤣
@@TONYGILLEY ah you’re probably right
Ngl I love this design
Been looking forward to this one.
I think I actually like the way the E looks more, at least the views from above.
This one looks great from below though.
Hoping you get to a dedicated breakdown for the Constitution III, Duderstadt, and Echelon classes eventually 👍
Odyssey class is definitely impressive, but my all time favorite is still the Sovereign class.
The Odyssey really is a starbase with a pair of nacelles.
They get that in the Yorktown refit
I agree new star trek series using the " Enterprise F " starship with crews from several other ships . It would have old and new people watching the series and extend the Star Trek legacy more and bring back the excitement and pleasure being new and old together.
thank you certifiably ingame, i love this video, and i love the odyssey!!
Yeah a.voyager redo
Pull er.out
Struggle to keep her going
But like the falcon she has it where it counts and always performs when needed.
That's it
The falcon in star trek
CI: "It's a big ship."
Universe-class Enterprise-J: *Ahem.*
4 enterprises apart, how are they gonna make that transition work
This, and its many variations in Star Trek online, are legitimately one of my favorite ship classes in all of Star Trek. If you’re curious which variant is my overall favorite, it’s probably the Yorktown.
One of my favorite classes
I’d like to know what happened to the E
Only explanation we have is in star trek online where it got trapped in fluidic space and fought the undine for several days before it's warp core caved in
It wasn't Worf's fault
Could it also utilise the Aquarius’s aft torpedo launchers while it was docked? Giving it 4? Aft launchers?
This was a treat to watch and listen to. Any chance you could do one for the _Eclipse_ -class Star Destroyer Enterprise-G?
10:26 Why do the gymnasium and bowling alley get dedicated matter and space when they could be holodecks too?
wow,I've been looking for info on the Odyssey for three weeks now.
I use the Lexington sub class of this in sto but other then thr main hull everything else is odyssey constructed
I run a mirror Lexington myself, and use the Odyssey look.
I'd be interested to see whatever justification could be made to explain why the F got pulled out of mothballs in 2409.
Thanks for the video. It was very informative. 😊
Hooray for the shout-out of the Rubber Duckie room! lol
So the darker portion at the front of the saucer are for ramming? Fantastic, the Picard maneuver as seen at the end of Nemesis must have played some factor in designing it in.
My absolute favourite! She is a beauty!
Is there somewhere to get full official/ish ship layouts in high resolution?
Zhiv/Ren SR-83 impulse thrusters, eh? Nice to see Shield of Tomorrow referenced. (I know you can also find the Sally Ride and get it as an admiralty ship, near the Nerandra (sp?) system in sector space)
The bridge to the Oydasy class were massive more inclined with a starbase so STOL is correct .
TBH I hope the Verity variant of the Oddysey gets a nod. I like rounder saucers.
I love my Odessey in STO, but I wish Cryptic would assign more weapon mounts for tier 6 ships. It caps out at 4/4 after tier 4.
apparently the engine would have problems with more than 8 weapons, also with more than 2 hangar bays.
