I think the reason why d.va gets ownership of the projectile before deleting it is so that she can get credit for denying ultimates in the kill logs(using matrix on zarya ultimate etc)
thats a really good poinht actually, i wonder if the damage credit change was implemented around the same time they updated the kill feed to include eating ults
Would also probably better explain the bit about Moira's orb healing her team instead of healing D.VA's team. Imagine denying a grav only for it to suck everyone in on your team for a split second.
One time I asked my friends "wait how do I have bronze healing on Dva?" and they just went "sometimes the game freaks out when you eat a moira orb" and i just took it for granted, but this explanation really well done!
If I recall correctly, Doomfist's ult also used to heal enemies if they stood at the outer edge like D.Va's ult. I think the damage falloff improperly fell into the negatives, healing enemies.
The reason for the deletion is because of server side computation. Deleting your own projectiles is much "safer" than deleting others. Changing the ownership of the projectiles allows the server to approve the change first, which means a hacked client cant just go deleting everyone's projectiles.
I'll never forget that one single game where every HP restored with Tracer's flashback went down as "healing done"... No idea how that could happen but was indeed very funny to see😂

I absolutely love video essays like these, and you elaborating about Overwatch, one of my favorite things in the world, I cannot thank you enough for this type of content.
That number is way too high for it to be from that glitch, especially on sigma since it's a way longer cooldown and you have to be a lot closer to eat. I actually discovered this glitch a while ago myself and since then I actively try to eat moira orb in the vicinity of enemies, and the most I've ever gotten where the moira was constantly throwing orbs and I was always eating them and the match was about 20 minutes long, I got 63 healing. It's likely your numbers originate from a different bug which occured during one particular patch not too long ago. During that specific patch, the healing you receive when going back to spawn actually counted towards your healing stats, so long as the spawn had moved at least once during the match (e.g. you capped first point on King's row, and then go back to the 2nd spawn to heal yourself). I discovered that bug pretty early and actually got every hero in my career profile to have at least a tiny amount of healing :D

Great video. This is what I suspected was going on with Dva and Sigma. I have healing with Doomfist, Zarya, Winston, and Hanzo. My friend has healing with Phara and Junkrat. Doom and Zarya I could see being a shield gen error and Winston having an error when he transforms. Junkrat gets hit markers with his nades that cause knockback and Im under the assumption that could have something to do with it. I can't think of a way for Hanzo and Phara to have healing stats though.
My assumption here actually is that it might have to do with Knockback. Doomfist-Punch, Zarya Rightclick, WInston Ult. Phara and Junkrat have knockback on multiple of their Abilities. In my case, I have Healing with Reinhardt, Ball and Ashe, also three characters with notable Knockback. So I'd assume knocking someone into a Healpack might cause that. As for Hanzo: Every Melee attack except Torbs Hammer and Brigs left click has a small amount of knockback, so that could be the cause behind that.
A guess for why it changes to D.va's projectile would be to prevwnt potential exploits. If you could actually delete projectiles that didn't belong to you, there might be a possibility of someone exploiting that to delete all enemy projectiles
