I'm sure there are many others like me, but I took a synthesis of different doctors and their own approaches to the literature and science. Because of Dr. John McDougall, I realized starches replace the meat in a diet, because I used to be concerned with satiety on eating greens and fruits. After watching some of Dr. Milton Mills presentations, I became convinced we are physiologically herbivores (emphasis on starches as the centerpiece of a meal). Finally, Dr. Joel Fuhrman has provided an opportunity for me to become nutrient dense and get the best "bang for my buck". I am thankful for all the doctors and really everyone on the forefront of this movement.

I too have studied all the nutritional gurus and their approaches to diet and longevity. And I too was convinced by Mills that we are herbivores. I chose Dr Fuhrman’s nutritarian diet. The most nutritional bang for caloric buck makes the most sense to me. I think in the field of nutrition Dr Fuhrman is the smartest guy out there. May the G-BOMBS be with you my friend.

@@ericbrandon8699 I've been making a salad full of greens with sautéed mushrooms (yes in olive oil) and fresh onions and some plant based dressing. Yes the dressing and olive oil aren't healthy per say, but overall I'm loving this! I find myself craving it!

I have been a whole plant based MD for 8 yrs now. I find Dr Fuhrman the best advocate of the healthiest diet for best health. the data on nuts and seeds really gives many more wonderful foods to enjoy. His insight into DHA/omega 3 and brain health also shows us to beware of missing these brain healthy nutrients. I pray more people may become informed and pursue this powerful healing and most healthy way to eat.

Homie talks so fast he trips over his words. At first he reaaaaly scared me. I had to watch the same lecture like 3 times to get it lol. But then I started reading. Reading his materials and my mind was BLOWN. Other than a book or two, supplements, and products he would sell (may not make **too** much from other than from dedicated followers) he doesn't stand to gain big profits. Hell, you can get his books used, at the local library or on Scribd. His main message is to give people the gift of health. If anything he is giving us the money because we are not spending so much on medications.

Reminded me of when Bill Clinton was the fast food/unhealthy food king. He was famous for stuffing himself at all those pancake breakfasts, fried chicken or barbecue lunches politicians go to.
His first year as President, he would jog from fast food restaurant to fast food restaurant with the Secret Service jogging along, and Bill would eat something at every restaurant. The Secret Service we're slim, and Bill would wear shorts with his thunder thighs.
The press loved it, and viewers got such good laughs.

Here's my fast, cheap and easy diet: Lots of veggies are cheap! Once u stop buying chips, pop and cookies, u be shocked at your savings. Meal for one #1...stirfry veggies...cabbage, onions, mushrooms, spinach, whatever u have, scramble in 2-3 eggs. Add some nutritional yeast, oregano, turmeric and black pepper, cayenne, maybe some Bragg's Aminos. Meal #2: Open a couple bags of salad...mix up 1/2 of each. Add sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast, turmeric and black pepper, a blob of yogurt, some good quality olive oil, oregano and/or thyme, a liitle salad dressing and some avocado. Add anything else u like. Also eat a serving of meat the size of your palm, or 1/2 can of garbanzo beans. Alternate meal: Load up a plate of hamburger/shredded meat, canned beans, salsa, grated cheese, black olives, jalapenos, tomatoes, etc. Breakfast waffles: 1 egg, 1 Tbsp almond flour, 1 tbsp ground flax, 1 Tbsp oat flakes, 1 Tbsp melted butter, 2 tbsp yogurt, peanut butter or sour cream, 1/4 tsp bkg pdr, stevia and vanilla to taste. Great recipes on 'Clean and Delicious' videos.

I am an advocate for eating healthy, and eliminating the junk that most Americans eat. But there are so many studies out there that can link literally anything to death. This guy went on a soapbox about the health benefits of beans (which I love beans), but you can find research about the adverse effects of high amounts of leptin, which can be deadly. I just read a study about red meat and how it likely isn't the meat itself correlating to cancer, moreso cooking methods (such as grilling, frying etc.) due to the compounds that cooking meat can create. So what do we do? Avoid meat and restrict yourself to a diet of beans and vegetables?? The way I see it, you can die from almost anything. Moderation is key, doing simple things to improve health, avoiding fast food, exercise, etc.

So the fact that they all say somewhat different things doesn't mean that they are actually contradicting each other

Nutritarian is more micronutrient dense, and more effective. Starch solution is ok, but nutritarian is best.
I have found McDougall's advice to eat cold cereal, pasta and bread, all refined grain foods, to be questionable choices. Even on his weight loss diet, you would be eating more veg, low cal density foods.
Also, how long can you really sustain the very low fat style? He doesn't seem to be moving in the direction of updated scientific nutrition on healthy, whole fats. Even Dr. Campbell has said that " the fat you eat is the fat you wear " is overly simplistic and not entirely true.
Anyway, just my experience from eating starch based, and nutritarian, for type 2 diabetes, my glucose was always high on starch based food, and only saw significant control when I followed Dr. Fuhrman 's advice. It's a very satisfying way to eat, and you will benefit much more IMO. Best wishes.

As smart as you are, you should first go around the world and see how many people eat white rice before you denigrate white rice. In the Asian countries white rice is eaten about twice a day. People in the countries eating white rice are healthier than those in the western countries. White rice is never consumed by itself. It it accompanied by things such as vegetables, legumes, meat and a variety of different dishes. The FDA states that brown rice contains 80% more arsenic than white rice. It is a shame that people like you who call yourselves "experts in health issues" promote no absence like this. I grew up eating white rice every day. My father lived to his 90s with no health issues. I ha e not suffered any health issues either and neither did my grand parents. The reason I dont support a nutritarian diet over a starch based diet like Mcdougall is becaue: 1) not sustainable, much harder to incorporate salads and soups all the time as opposed to potatoes/pasta/bread which store longer and less time to prepare, 2) satiety, I'm not convinved I would get true satiety on a low calorie/denisty diet as opposed to starches that fill me up, 3) it's more time consuming and expensive buying colourful fruits and veges that are not frozen, 4) i dont know a single population of people who eat like this, most Asians and Africans live on starch overwhelmingly, as do the Northern Mexicans Tarahumara who live on corns beans and winter squash, without any deficiencies, 5) it seems as though the body will NOT utilise all those nutrients and vitamins and will simply excrete them in urine etc, so a starch based diet is more than adequate anyway and this merely overcomlicates eating. I like nonetheless like the Joel Furman but I think it is unscientific to live on a diet like this (which no natural population ever ate).
