This is a video im going to watch a few times again. So helpful and informative. Ud give anything for medical providers to GET EDUCATED on nutritarian Eat to Live healthy life info! My dr didnt even notice my almost 60 pound wt loss. I brought it up to medical assistant and tried to share how my stamina and life has changed since Feb 2023 when i started Nutritarian, and, i no longer need my Celebrex nor omeprazole fir GERD. Didnt even get a peep out if Medical Asst nor dr. Not even a kudos re wt loss. Im proud of myself for sticking with Nutritarian. Thank you so much for this info re sodium! Im still working to rid some symptoms of my leg lymphadema. I hv to watch every single hidden mg of sodium even in organic low sodium veggie broth! My foot, ankle, leg will start to swell up. But nothing like when i was in S.A. D.! That says a lot.. Nutritarian keeps me from lymphadema leg going into stage 3. But im determined to rid all symptoms!

Having gone whole food plant based diet 3 months ago I've had a hard time finding certain foods or condiments that are truly low sodium. For example I've started eating black beans almost daily but I prefer the convenience of organic canned vegetables. I'm happy to report that most of the groceries in my small town stock no salt added canned black beans, with only 10 mg natural content per serving. To spice up my potatoes and veggies with no added table salt I have found only two products I really like that are also low sodium...Texas Pete's low sodium salsa at 45 mg per 2 tbsp serving; every other salsa on shelves has at minimum triple that amount. BBQ sauce, Foy's BBQ for both mild and hot are just 35 mg per 2 tbsp serving. Another spice or flavoring I use daily now is Balsamic Vinegar which is salt free. For about two weeks I kept detailed record of daily salt intake, and I recorded a low of 600 mg, with high about 1200. I didn't record natural amount in whole fruits/veggies. Since I recently found the low sodium salsa and bbq sauce, and switched just last week to Ezekiel flax sprouted bread I feel I've cut my daily sodium intake by another 200 or so mg.
There are other doctors like Dr. Goldhammer with True North and Dr. Gregor also talks about the dangers of salt. Chef AJ has also talked about ditching salt. I appreciate Dr. Furman and all the pioneers that discuss the dangers of sodium
So many people frequent restaurants, which are loaded with salt, sugar and oil. Once you get addicted to eating this way, it is very hard to eat healthy. I keep my meals simple and easy at home. When I eat at a restaurant, I know I am off course. I don’t see it as a reward or treat.

They always argue with me and just can't seem to understand (or don't want to understand) why I don't eat at restaurants with them.
I relate... but until restaurants start opening up that offer Nutritarian options, I cringe when I agree to spend time with friends that want to eat at restaurants. I need the social life, but I bring own salad dressing and have to order side dishes of fresh fruits, vegies and salads with only fresh vegies. Most Americans will never be willing to give up their pleasure foods. I share Fuhrman's videos and some friends start asking me questions. That's how I open conversations in a loving way. But I'd give anything to find local Nutritarian friends to hang out with!! It's painful to even see some of the healthy pasta sauce, veggie broth sodium levels. When I stopped eating added salt I lost weight, my inflammation, joint stiffness, lower back pain, knee pain, & puffiness went away. When I eat some, it comes back. That’s the only “study” I need.
I have a jarred pasta sauce trick to reduce the sodium. I cut it with plain tomato paste which is salt free, and add additional herbs, spices and a drop of vinegar to compensate for less salt. At this point, if I just had straight jarred pasta sauce, I'm sure it would taste too salty to me.
Great Idea! You know, I bought the "no salt added" tomato paste for years before I found out that the regular tomato paste doesn't have any salt either! But you still have to check the labels because some brands do contain salt.

I am not a doctor but I know for sure that if a patient has lost lots of salt due to sweating, loose motions (likely your friends?) etc, then saline IV is usually the quickest way to bring it back to normal level. Btw, some patients may require glucose IV too especially if blood sugar level has gone too low . Sodium is naturally present in many vegetables, fruits and grains etc: If you eat them in right portions/balance, you never need extra salt (with some exceptions, as mentioned above).

I was a saltaholic my whole life, but I completely eliminated added sodium to my diet 3 months ago. But a weird thing happened. My blood pressure dropped almost immediately. It actually got way too low. But that's not the weird part. I started adding some salt back into my diet to raise my blood pressure back to normal levels. But just a little wasn't working, so I kept increasing. I am now eating as much salt as I was before I gave it up, and here is the weird part... my blood pressure is still too low. How is this possible?
I use mostly sodium free products and don’t add salt during the cooking process. However I took the advice of Dr. McDougall and just sprinkle salt on the top of my food as needed while I’m eating. That way the salt is right on top and you can taste it and it’s not lost in the cooking process.

My last doctor’s visit we were talking about my low blood pressure. It can be around 90/60 but usually 110/70. I told her some times I feel dizzy when I stand and she said it could be my blood pressure. She recommended adding salt to my diet. I was skeptical of this and didn’t do it. What do you think?
In my opinion, as a lay person who has followed Dr. Fuhrman for years, you are right to be skeptical and not intentionally add salt to your diet. Then, the question remains- do you need treatment or a further work-up? I would say that if the dizziness only lasts 10 or 20 seconds, when changing from sitting to standing, then just wait until it subsides before walking away from the chair. If the dizziness is more pronounced (lasting minutes, contributing to a fall) then it seems that a further medical work up would be advisable. Hopes this helps!

Gaia brand hawthorn berries capsules or tincture herb will raise your blood pressure if it is low and will lower your BP if it is high. Hawthorn berries herb is good for heart..
"Salt" is sodium CHLORIDE. 3 parts chloride to 2 parts sodium by weight. So you can't say "sodium" unless you have eliminated chloride as the independent variable (not easy). Some research suggests that the "baddie" might be the chloride not the sodium. See discussion in "Can You Catch A Cold?" one of the best books ever.

If someone said they had to drink tons of water because they were always peeing, you would probably suggest that they had it backwards. But people (especially people who exercise) say essentially the same thing about salt.
What about vegetables? 100g of celery has 16 calories and 80mg sodium. 100g of spinach has 23 calories and 70mg sodium. So your ratio doesn't even work with raw vegetables. Can you please explain this? I’m a Nutritarian and just trying to have a clear understanding on this topic.

Good question. 🤔 I'm wondering about calcium because many doctors recommend calcium supplements as we get older. I hear calcium can add to plaques and hardening of arteries. Maybe the Scandinavians don't take the supplements americans take and so don't have as much heart problems.
Does this apply to just table salt which is a man-manufactured combination of sodium and chloride or does it also apply to Celtic Sea Salt and pink salt that contains at least 84 different naturally occurring minerals. Why do some of the best natural healing centers and some other holistic doctors tell their patients to cut out ALL table salt, but to ADD these sea salts and pink salts. SALT is the REAL addiction in food addiction. Eat food that needs no salt or seasonings to make them palatable.

Stress can also contribute to blood pressure.

It depends on how much water your drinking. Some drink 1 gallon per day
Except for fresh vegetables and fruit every thing has salt added ! So always go for low salt or make my own nutrition food !
Sodium depletes the minerals that support bone health
What about vegetables? 100g of celery has 16 calories and 80mg sodium. 100g of spinach has 23 calories and 70mg sodium. So your ratio doesn't even work with raw vegetables. Can you please explain this? I’m a Nutritarian and just trying to have a clear understanding on this topic.

Dr. F, if it is true that the Scandinavian Countries and Japan, have both higher salt intake that we do here in the US, and are much healthier in the area of CVD, blood pressure and Stroke, why is that not a rationale for allowing salt if it can be in a diet as it is with them. btw, have all your books & cookbooks, we are doing the Nutritarian live-style, and have attended your talks when you have be here in Seattle; would love clarification on this point.
Good question. 🤔 I'm wondering about calcium because many doctors recommend calcium supplements as we get older. I hear calcium can add to plaques and hardening of arteries. Maybe the Scandinavians don't take the supplements americans take and so don't have as much heart problems.
