I've been a egg milk eating vegetarian, jogging 4 times/week (20 miles/week) for 10 years, BMI 2 I, age 75. I started this whole foods vegan diet 9 weeks ago. But I craved olive oil and fried eggs so bad I sobbed almost every evening until two weeks ago. I am feeling much better now and have stopped crying 🥦🥬🥒🫑🥕🥝🥗🍆🥑🍅🍉🍈🍌🥦🥦🥦

I always learn something new from interviews with Dr. Fuhrman. As a food addict, I have experienced weight fluctuations even with the nutritarian knowledge. I have been a health food addict & succumbed to cravings and overeating my whole life. He is exactly right: we need to call this what it is, which is addiction, and learn to satiate ourselves outside of food once we have nourished ourselves efficiently.

I found Dr Fuhrman on PBS many years ago. I am so glad he spoke about being 100% as I have been doing the 90-95% thing. And, guess what, he is correct, it is not getting me where I need to be. While I am nearly 62 and on no meds, etc, I still have weight to lose and reach my optimal health and fitness level. Sending love and appreciation to you, AJ, for bringing this to us, and to Dr Fuhrman, for always setting me straight!

Yes, I personally cannot do anything less than 100 percent. I’ve tried many times and it doesn’t work for me. It’s a very slippery slope. Even cooked foods can be tricky for me. I gotta keep those minimal.

When I began following Dr F’s Eat to Live protocol many years ago, the concept of true hunger was a revelation. For the first two days I asked myself “Am I truly hungry?” and quite shockingly I found I could not answer the question, so I concluded I must NOT be hungry. I did not eat for two days, without any adverse effects. By the third day I was able to honestly answer the question, “Yes,” and my journey began. Incredibly, I surmised, I must have been overeating two days’ worth of calories in order to not have felt hungry. Now, unless I feel the hungry in my throat, I know I want to eat for other reasons.

I agree with what he's saying about tough love and really loving people enough to be the hard ass and give them every opportunity to heal and enjoy the best life possible. Dr Fuhrman thank you so much for your work and passion. Thank you AJ for bringing Dr Fuhrman to your program. I agree with Dr Fuhrman, that 10% will derail me. It’s not about perfection, it’s actually about progress. I love to measure progress, and I will do whatever it takes to measure progress. There is no progress when I get derailed. I have stopped looking at addictive food-like corporate products as food. These products are substances. I can’t eat addictive substances without consequences.

Great content as always ChefAJ! It has taken me from 2013-2022 to realize that Dr Fuhrman is right. Trying to hold on to some of the SAD foods 10% of the time doesn’t work. I reasoned that I was much better off than I was before because I ate clean 90% of the time and SAD foods in moderation but all I was doing was prolonging the “addiction” which caused me to rebound often and gain more weight. Taking it slow will get you some progress but like Dr Fuhrman said you’ve got to rip the band-aid off but quickly. I noticed since the beginning of 2022 my cravings for cheese, fried foods, milk chocolate and overeating has lessened tremendously compared to the end of 2022. So proud of myself for toughening it out and being committed to cooking WFPB meals at home. I encourage anyone to go all in 100% and deal with the detox effects so you can get faster results.

Chef AJ, Dr. Fuhrman said he immediately goes to Whole foods after leaving the airport when traveling. Amazon bought our local Whole Foods and closed the physical store.
Getting the foods he described is more challenging now.
I hate Amazon incorporating Whole Foods into their online store. There is something to be said, about actually strolling through the store and seeing lovely foods that appeal to you.
Going to Italy, nice to have chefs prepare food ahead of time. Ah....sounds like the privilege of someone with some money. I know I sound cranky. I love Dr. F. Truly.

I do real well sticking to healthy eating. That being said, but, I took 2 friends yesterday to a craft bazaar, afterwards they wanted to go eat. I thought I was ready for that. I said Wendy's, thinking I'm having a salad. Once there, they said they were closed till 5 due to lack of help. So the 2 ladies wanted Taco Bell next door. So ended up with taco's and an unsweetened tea. I got home feeling like I totally blew my whole day, that I thought I was ready for! It is so very hard!!!

I’m not a doctor or scientist, but I see people gain optimal health all the time by making healthier decisions gradually. Extreme changes work fine in a controlled environment. But for a busy working mother, it’s more challenging. Dr. Fuhrman has definitely helped me in my health journey, but it’s the extreme lifestyle change (all or nothing) that seems unrealistic.

I agree with everything he saying about addiction and tough love, but I do believe there probably needs to be upwards of 30 day timeframe where you’re just eating 100% healthy foods without worrying so much about how much you’re eating, and then after that 30 days, focus 100% on what doctor Fuhrman is saying about tough love and dealing with the uncomfortable feelings. But I do think it’s important to have a small buffer timeframe because that will help reduce the addiction itself, exponentially. but again, after that small buffer timeframe, I am 100% agree with pulling the rug out and getting real and dealing with the uncomfortable feelings of food addiction in it’s entirety.

I respect Dr Fuhrman and his strictness, but I wish he was more understanding and compassion for people with a hungry brain and the genetics to be overweight. I fit this description and constantly battle hunger despite eating WFPB nutrient dense, organic 50/50 plate, etc. Its been three years and I still have not "detoxed" or lost that gnawing sensation in the pit of my stomach that only goes away for about an hour after a meal. My sister (who is obese..I'm just overweight due to white knuckling it and keeping a clean home environment) went on Mounjaro, the GLP-1, GIP-1 agonist medication a few months back and she has lost 30 pounds and still going. She is like me: never felt full, always hungry and she says her obesity doctor explained this med helps with that: quicker satiety, delayed gastric emptying. She says it is like a miracle, she cannot finish her plate and can go hours and hours without feeling hungry. Hungry is not felt just felt in the neck. Hunger felt in the belly is real, not just toxins in your body. Some of us need more compassionate understanding, less fat shaming and effective drugs to quiet the squirrel in our brains telling us we are hungry.

I think that his retreat program would be good for us- people like you and me and your sister. Thank you AJ. Dr. Fuhrman changed my perspective of food with his Super Immunity book and the simplicity of G-BOMBS. Of course, the challenges of food addiction are still very real..... not for Dr. Lisle, who disagrees with Dr. Fuhrman, but, for the 88% of the population Dr. Fuhrman referenced with an elevated BMI. The only solution is abstinence from additive foods.

find a low-calorie miso if you don’t have a good broth : 40 calories per cup seems fine. i can put two pounds of vegetables in that soup after steaming them. wow. this purple cabbage. every day i do a big lunch of either berries, sweet potatoes or beans and this insane bowl of miso every night a few hours before bed
i plan my lunch based on how many calories i want for the day and how many hours before dinner i’m eating lunch
i burn 90 calories per hour usually so a 400 calories lunch is best placed 4.5 hours before dinner
my dinner bowl is 350-400 calories, only garlic granules added and eaten with a lime : so i have that a couple hours before bed and i’m fed and happy to get me deep into sleep.
by the time i wake up, i’ve burned through most of those calories and i’m good to go until around 2 and if i can push my lunch until 3 or 4 or even 5, it’s a great day
when i recreationally eat, i eat 6,000 calories. takes me three weeks to undo that.
nothing feels better than the way i feel after eating the right amount of the most antioxidant-rich items on earth
greens, sweet potatoes, berries, beans, ground flax walnuts.
the Garmin Instinct Solar is very accurate in it’s running total of calories burned throughout the day. if calories burned is too far off, shorten your height in settings. i’m surprised more aren’t using this as well as Cronometer (they don’t pair or talk with eachother) to have the cheat codes on how many calories we’re eating and how many we’re burning.
pretty amazed at how many calories are in everything and how few calories we burn. wow.
it’s a real disappointment: ALL i want are these greens, all garlicy and limed up. ALL i want are these purple sweet potatoes and these purple sweet potatoes with white skin; they’re like biscuits. ALL i want are these BERRIES. these BEANZ. Walnuts. Ground flax. when i’m ripping calories off my body, i do 900 calories per day. when i’m at 19 BMI, i bump my calories to 1750.
i want them all at the same time, right now. i guess i’ll just have to ONLY eat these foods so i CAN STAY ALIVE longer so i can eat as many of these items as i can before i die.
    fabulous life 💃🏽

Yes good idea eat an apple. Lately as it’s cold out I don’t want to eat a cold crispy apple, so I cut it in half remove the core and bake in air fryer with cinnamon or other warm spices like pumpkin and cardamom. It’s so delicious its like eating apple pie, but so darn healthy.

Speaking of addictions, I used to have a ferociously intense opioid and benzodiazepine addiction. Getting over that was, by far, the hardest thing I've ever done. To give you some perspective, you're familiar with the power of the dietary pleasure trap, right? Well, opiate and benzodiazepine addiction is about 100 times more powerful. If you think sticking to the diet Fuhrman/McDougall/AJ/Greger _et alia,_ advises is hard, and you've never been addicted to drugs or alcohol, you have no idea what difficult is! The reason I say that, I think, is changing to a healthy diet is EASY, compared to curing other chemical addictions. So....what am I trying to say, here...? JUST EAT THE DAMNED FOOD, it's not that hard! lol, sry for ranting.
Seriously. You will not go through delirium tremens if you stop eating donuts and pizza 8 times a week. Just do it, and be glad you have it so easy.

I know ...I'm a recovering heroin addict and this is crazy to me .. Opiate addiction is hell to quit and food is not even a thing to someone like me....I could live without food ever again if it wasn't necessary to life more easily than to quit opiates again
