Not the best deal in my opinion. But this HP omen 15 is with better design, better RGB keyboard, bigger 70WHR battery, and free OMEN headset and mouse for $999. I got it for $949 in the black Friday and totally loving it.

There's no bass, the laptop sounds great when listening to folk or pop but anything heavy sounds abominable, like it can never can get loud. Of course, I am somewhat picky as my last laptop was dell XPS l502x which had a subwoofer and sounded absolutely spectacular.

@@CaptainFSU I'm watching this video on my Dell XPS L502x. I'm looking to upgrade to the Predator Helios mainly for photography (Lightroom/Photoshop) and backend development. I don't watch/listen to much media on my laptop anymore, so it shouldn't be too bad. I plan to put in an SSD for the boot drive and pass it down. I agree though, the JBL speakers on the L502x are pretty sweet sounding for a laptop.

About the warranty, I've also seen a couple of laptops with a little deffectiveness ( screen bleed is terrible ). If you're basing your choice yo buy from amazon solely on the laptop , I would go for it. Best laptop for its price. If you dont have warranty I would be a little concerned. Up to you

I literally refunded it to Amazon with a restocking fee because I got approximately 3 to 4 hours of battery life with just basic tasks. Gaming killed this thing in half that time. Not worth it to me

As an ownwer of the same model for 5 months here is my standpoint:
    Agree:
    - speakers
    - touchpad
    - slot for external card
    Disagree
    - Design, this is gaming/performence laptop, not student. We dont care abiut students.(by the way, I am student myself :)) It has to look cool but not too much and it does the job perfectly here
Great job Acer on that, dont change the style.it looks agressive but not excessive.
    - 3 ssd slots instead of larger battery. Again, its not a students laptop. Storage is more desirable. Obviously if there is possibility to give more usetime then its great but in this case - storage over battery.
You need to understand that this model has not been made with students in mind. Your review is not good in this aspect.
Other then that, nice video, well done putting it all together :)

I just got my Helios 300 today, and it's SICK. It boots insanely fast, runs pretty cool, looks amazing and handles everything pretty quick. I haven't started gaming with it but I switched over to studio drivers and processed some 4K drone footage, went pretty smoothly. I ordered a Razer Viper Ultimate and once that gets here I'll probably be dipping my toe into some gaming right away.
*edit: Also, my girlfriend who knows nothing about computers came home from work and said she really liked the blue LEDs. She has a Macbook from like 2012 and after playing around on it for a second she wanted one. Not gonna happen

Just recently upgraded to the Helios 300 17" variant from my Nitro 5 15" i5 GTX 1050. The Helios has blown the Nitro 5 completely out of the water. The metal design and glass touchpad is already a major improvement, however you can truly see how fast the i7 processors are in this beast. The GTX 1660ti has massively improved gaming (as expected) and the cooling system with predator sense is quite a good design idea to keep temperatures in check.
The only thing I would recommend is to instantly upgrade to a 16gb RAM minimum as this will be the sweet spot for your larger, more demanding games as although the 8GB is enough to run any Total War and PUBG at Ultra, it will not be enough to run a more demanding game like BF5 at the same consistency.
Overall 9/10 for this laptop (Very Satisfied)

Great video. And of all the many videos I've watched for this laptop, you're the only one who mentioned students. I'm doing my last year of highschool this year and I'm definitely looking at this laptop for the last few months of 2020 and then for University. While I'm not bothered toooo much with the "Gaming!!" look of the laptop, if the Asus Zephyrus G14 is in the same price point, I'm getting one of those instead of the Helios, because of the more simplistic and minimalistic design.
I've never used a Helios, but regardless, it's definitely caught my attention as a student who needs performance and something that can confidently run a Digital Audio Workstation (and a nice game or two) without destroying my wallet.

It's a great laptop. I got it in August and I love it. The battery life is pretty weird, though. Sometimes it lasts me like 4 hours and sometimes it only lasts like 1 1/2, even if I only use it for web browsing. The track-pad lags a little in the beginning when I turn it on, but that only lasts a couple seconds. It also gets kinda loud, the predator software claims its usually at like 60-70 degrees when I'm just browsing the internet, so the fans spin a little louder, but I think that might be because I dropped it and the sensor might have been damaged or something. I really recommend it, for the price its a steal.

I'm waiting for the 2020 model of the Helios 300 to come out, likely in April or May, with the 10th Gen Intel Comet Lake-H CPU (to be announced in mid to late March) to determine whether it's worth going for. If not, I'll get the 2019 model for a discounted price, hopefully near or even below its Black Friday's all-time low $929 price tag.
I doubt that performance will wildly increase due to the CPU upgrade since it's still going to be based on the 14nm architecture, and we know that the GPU will remain the same throughout 2020 (at least for the 1660 Ti version since its successor is not coming out until H2 2021). However, what I am looking forward to are the following possible upgrades:
    - 240Hz is possible since we now have 300Hz laptop displays that are considered the highest-end for 1080p IPS displays, so 240Hz can now be considered the highest end of the midrange
    - Wi-Fi 6 is a given since some of the 2019 Helios 300 models already received this upgrade last November, but not the i7-9750H | 1660 Ti | 256 GB SSD model for some reason
    - 2.5 Gbps RJ45 Ethernet port - This one is unlikely since this is still restricted to high-end laptops
    - USB 3.2 Gen 2 (i.e. SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps) for all 3 Type-A ports - Current ones are 5 Gbps only (USB 3.2 Gen 1 i.e. SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps)
    - Thunderbolt 3 support in the USB-C port since Intel made TB 3 royalty-free and is now cheaper to implement than last year
As for the hardware changes you mentioned (i.e. toning down the gaming design aspects, moving the power port to the back, having front-facing speakers), while I agree with them all, I doubt any will be implemented this year since Acer applies a 2-year design update cycle for this model, so the design that was introduced in 2019 will likely remain intact in 2020, just like they did for the previous design between 2017 & 2018.
Personally, I prefer having a 2.5" drive bay as opposed to a larger battery since my laptop is always plugged in wherever I go, but this is a matter of personal preference. As for having an upgraded webcam... If the highest-end $3,000+ laptops still have 720p webcams, there is no hope for the likes of the Helios 300 to have any sort of decent webcam anytime soon.

I've had mine for 8 months now and I love this laptop. I would recommend it to people who already have a thin small laptop for school work and want a separate gaming laptop, I wouldn't recommend it to those who want it for both reasons because it is bulky and not exactly something you want to carry around. When it comes to gaming, I don't think I have ever had an issue with any game, I stay around the 100 fps range for most games and I never go above 80 degree celsius on the processor. The sound can get loud but if you are buying this laptop for gaming, you most likely have headphones anyway so you don't even notice it.
I would recommend this laptop any day of the week to anybody who wants a gaming laptop instead of a system if they move around a lot or go to college far away and can't take their PC with them.

I am planning on purchasing a gaming laptop. I was concerned about How future proof would it be and its Capacity of running games in 2024. As we can see now that Gaming laptops costing 1500$ in 2012-13 can hardly play titles from 2017. I wanted to ask What specs do a laptop need so that I'd play Major AAA titles for at least next 5 years. I have my Eyes on Acer Predator Helios 300. I haven't played major titles like AC Odyssey, Horizon zero dawn, Metro exodus, Rainbow Six, COD latest titles. I know that Helios can play these games seamlessly with fully utilising the 144Hz display and 1660Ti. Alongside these titles from the past 10 years which I've missed, I also want to play All latest AAA titles. I 've only played games at 30FPS so everything would be amazing to me as I've been told.
Which Laptop would be best for such future endeavours? My Budget is around 1500$. I am willing to wait but I want best possible options available now or if there are any future laptops coming which fit in my budget and would be able to Run Games flawlessly for next 5 years.

    • @itakenaps

Aryan K hey there. This laptop would be fine for a few years. The good thing is technology hasn’t super improved in the last couple/3 years compared to 2013 to now . So it will definitely run for a few years without any hiccups. You can see this in things like the new Xbox and ps5 coming out that they don’t look much different than current ones aside from ray tracing. I personally have a 1660ti in my desktop that I got when it came out and it runs every game on ultra with no hiccups. This will be more than capable running games for 4-5 years with good upkeep

daughter has the 75DE model for a few day Feb. 2020. Still pricey and Pros and Cons about it. Still for cost it is reasonable and better than others in same category. Using for Video editing/rendering and Adobe Premier / Photoshop. With lights off a bit of screen bleed from the top edges using dark color shades. Warning: Do Not Use TURBO Mode … causes keyboard lighting issues, drain on Battery and over heating. Go to BIOS Setting and select Normal, using MSI Afterburner to set up Fan Speed of 70 to 80 percent. Leave the factory Under voltage setting alone. Average touchpad, nice right - left click and amount of area. Apparently ACER may discontinue the 15.6 inch units and just stay with 17.3 inch units. Not many left in ACER Store and Predator 300 is getting harder to find for purchase online. So difficult to find any decent bargains as they maintaining their MSRP cost. Helio 700 and Triton 500 is what ACER will stick with producing in 2020. Nitro 7 is better than Nitro 5 and Acer claims they're better than 2018 models … barely is it the truth - very marginal.

I put a basic after-market skin on it that tones it down a bit, but I don't take it out of my home office much. When I do, it looks fine for business/professional purposes. I wasn't a fan of the giant "PREDATOR" on the back. The 'skin' says, "trustworthy business wonk" and I can play games when I want.
Battery life for web/email has been great at nearly 4 hours, but I don't try to run it all day off-power. I don't expect to game without full power, but can log in to check online games for short periods.
I drive three displays day-to-day (a 4K 28", 24" in portrait mode and the laptop display). Storage capacity is massive. I run external speakers, keyboard, mouse, from it most of the time so the built in trackpad, keyboard, etc. aren't much of an issue for me. Have all been more than sufficient while travelling.
Overall, it's been an amazing replacement for a MacBook Pro I used to run (and 1/3 of the price). I've run MacBooks for 8 years before transitioning back out, frankly tired of limited game options while traveling. Literally SMH at all the fun I missed.

Got mine in 2018 and I can say that everything he mentions is pretty spot on, even my older version still holds up performs as well as the model he reviewed, with one exception. The model I have put both fans to the right side and then (moving from right to left) the GPU and then CPU. The issue with that while my GPU temps are always reasonable, my CPU gets toasty AF! Placing a fan on either side was definitely a smart move so that both GPU and CPU are next to a fan was definitely a good move. For GPU intensive and CPU light games it's not a huge issue but for CPU intensive games like Subnautica or Satisfactory I don't want to play them if I don't have my laptop cooling pad handy to get more airflow through it. And even then I reduce to normal graphics so that the more of the cooling capacity can go to the CPU.

Got mine last July and the performance is still fantastic. Hardly have any issues running even the latest games. Now I’m just worried if they release a 2020 version for the same price...

Nice glad its going well! It definitely won't be the same price at first but I'd imagine Acer will have it sales around the holidays

I have the 17 inch version and I love it. I only wish it had better speakers and quieter fans. They are for sure quite loud. And better battery for sure. Battery needs to last at least 3-4h.

I agree with you on everything you said except for the design, I love the aggressive look, you gotta understand that the design of the lap cannot be judged by just one individual, it all matters on perspective. Love your works BTW keep going with the great content 😄

Matt , I couldn't thank you more for recommending this Laptop. I've been using it for over 5 months now and i love the value it gives me for this price point. Except for the missing SD Card slot i have no other complains. I use it plugged in most of the times so battery life ain't a issue for me. Also most of people use headphones while they consume media content or play games so speakers are not really a big deal i guess. Thank you once again

I got unlucky with my laptop, but most of my complaints are for Acer Support. My new laptop screen had dead pixels and the power cord was not staying connected to the laptop and would sometimes get hot. I sent it in. They changed the screen and the power adapter for free, but when I got it back I had another dead pixel and the charger is still not staying connected at certain angles. I'm a student, so I can't go without a laptop for 2+ weeks during the school year. The dead pixel is only noticeable if you look closely and the power cord is somewhat better, but I'm pretty disappointed overall. I don't think I'll be buying another Acer product anytime soon.

I'm a college student and I can refute 2 of your points. 1: the styling is kind of a bit much but I like it, most other gaming laptops looks the same, I would prefer razer's approach of just copying the mac. 2: the battery is long enough for me to use it 2 hours, which is more than enough within my break time in school.
