I'm guessing 10th Gen Intel only and perhaps the Nitro will have Ryzen.
@@Grumpy-J we already have plenty of mediocre laptops with Ryzen. I just want something that gets the basics right but sadly there's no such option as OEMs have to include some deal breaker in them (not suspicious at all :v). It's that crappy screen or an underwhelming GPU (1650 or AMD Navi) every damn time.
Just go for ASUS tuf a15, rtx 2060, ryzen 7 4800h

@@SameerKhan-nd5qb exactly, you can get over the temps by tweaking the CPU boosting but the screen where you'll be staring at what that 4800H and RTX 2060/GTX 1660Ti do can't be avoided, aka a deal breaker.

it should have had ryzen options but then again if gaming is your priority, the 10750h is faster than all mobile ryzen in gaming benchmarks even the A15(the best implementation) has issues in CPU intensive gaming(lower presets or counter strike bench),where some older Intel options outperform it but Ryzen is competitive nonetheless

Disappointing af, I expected a major redesign according to the 2020's thin sleek laptop standard! I am happy that I went with the Helios 300 2019 instead of waiting for this, also Matthew you do have rgb lighting on certain models of Helios 300, in the states you need to get the 512gb version on amazon

Honestly, both are kinda ugly looking by 2020 standards. A better looking laptop would be the GS66 or the new Omen

Watching it on the 2019 model and i can confirm that the intake grills on the top side seems a very good idea. That part gets very hot when playing demanding games.

@@beratguven1348 The top side in 2019 model is really hot when playing heavy-loaded game such as 2019 call of duty modern warfare, and it meets around 90C on CPU. I think the 2020 one would be better since the prices are similar to them.
Exactly what I wanted to say, I own the 1660 ti 2019 version, that part is crazy hot when playing siege even in medium graphics.

Incredible gaming laptop. I've had the 2060 one nearly a year now and running it off a 144hz monitor it's performance is perfect at 1080p gaming 👌
I have the 2019 one..just love it.. but sometimes it goes upto 92°c but as soon as you crank the fans upto max , it works like a charm again
Mine 2019 i7 Rtx 2060 goes to 91*C only in turbo mode, so I don’t use it. I use max fan with fast GPU overclocking ( Turbo/Extreme also increases CPU power limit to 55W), I have a very bad cooling pad. CPU temps are in low 80s with occasional spikes to 85*C, haven’t faced throttling ever. I will undervolt over stock undervolt using throttlestop, I have seen that it significantly improves thermals.

Great video, Matt! I'm surprised you didn't mention the inclusion of USB-C charging. That's a very major change.
I'm happy with my 2019 model with 144hz rtx 2060 it was a hard choice for me because I wanted to get a desktop but I had to move to another country after a few months. It is perfect for me I never regretted getting it and now I use it with a 240hz monitor for CSGO and Valorant and I get 90fps on Warzone.
I'm using Helios 2019 and I loved the way it's build. The only update I would like to see is the power socket and on the 2020 it's given right at the back which most people will appreciate and also the power LED indicator as well. Apart from that I don't think there are huge upgrades options available on the new generation unit.

Exactly! it's stupid to buy 2020 version as it will cost more with just a difference of charging port placement. Apart from that performance is tweaked by 2-4% maybe?

To all the people wondering about the price drop of the 2019 model, there will be a small window of time in which you will be able to buy the 2019 version at a cheaper price before they completely discontinue the model and replace it with the 2020 one. (This is my opinion don't take my word for it.)
the 2019 models are practically gone . Those who have some new 2019 units are price gauging from $200 to $600 USD above MSRP. Oh! 2019 production had stopped probably in December 2019 before Christmas. My Predator Helios 300 PH315-52-75DE with RTX 2060 has a mfr date of Oct. 24, 2019. purchase through Amazon in Feb. 2020 for $1,299. The ones with i7-9750h and GTX 1660ti were selling at $899 to $999 and mostly gone which was at a very good bargain. There isn't much of a difference in performance between GTX 1660ti and RTX 2060 about 8 percent. You'll find through many new reviews that their really insignificant difference in the i7-8750h to the i7-9750h and the i7-10750h as just a slight increase in turbo each time. If you can find a 2019 model at a reasonable price or discount, it'll be just about as good as those coming out in 2020 with the fact the AC Adapter power will now get plugged into the rear rather than the side.

@@verstappen3381 for starters the 10th gen upgrade and other cosmetic upgrades just mean the price will be higher and the 2019 will be cheaper and most likely will provide similar gaming performance.
thermals should be better in 2020 model since its got 2 4th gen aero blade fans ,so does the fan noice aswell

For this model, most likely not. You're probably looking from $1500-1700 with the RTX card.

Edit: Liked the changes. I would have loved to see the inverted-T arrows and I actually liked the blue border on the trackpad on the 2019 model.
Laptop manufacturers need to know this, some people like color accents. They just need to be balanced. I just hope they don't get rid of the blue strips on the back because EVERY PERSON I know that has bought the helios 300 liked those(especially the blue ones)

My only concern about this new lights location.. mean I don't think it's was smart idea to put lights on top , I think battery lights on my Helios 300 (2019) it's perfect place on the side, because in new version see lights from battery on top might be annoying or will disturb you while u playing or working at night time. But maybe this ok.

There "should" be an AMD version of every notebook computer.
For the Helios 300 at least the Nitro 7 they are the exact same in internals and chassis its just the accent colors and the branding thats different (Helios 300 has blue accent colors and Predator branding meanwhile Nitro 7 has red accent colors but only regular Acer branding)
I wish they have made an AMD version as well just for the option. And I'm sure most people would try read team.

I just have a quick question in regards to the 2020 Acer Helios 300, should I wait a couple months for the AMD version to come out or buy this one? I will be going to post-secondary education in the fall and need a laptop that is affordable , somewhat cheap and powerful. In my search I found that the Helios 300 was my best option. I will not be using the laptop for primarily gaming , instead I will be using it for 3D Modelling, Photoshop, etc... Do you think it matters that is has an Intel chip or an AMD card when you are not using the laptop for gaming? Also when do you come out with the full review because I would like to see how the machine truly performs. Thanks,and all the best....

@@bruh-qp8eu a good way to fix it is A) Go to advanced power options in battery and set maximum processor state to 99% on both battery and plugged in B) Click on the battery icon on the lower right side of the screen and set it on better performance rather than maximum C) Lastly get arctic thermal paste it can cause 20 degrees of change, none of the above settings alter performance negatively I play all games on ultra and with high fps no issues on my 2019 Helios.

I have the RTX2060 version with 144hz refresh rate and this thing is a beast....best computer I have ever owned and a gaming monster....no heat issues for a graphically intense computer they usually run hot.....I ran a AAA game on ultra and had it in my lap!!!(Shadow of the Tomb Raider)

@@killshotz6747 yup....shure was...gonna be honest....this frigging thing just crashed hard....spent all morning reloading windows(I have only played one game and surfed the web with norton protection.....so unsure what happened,....woke up and could not get any programs to open and had to reload the os
@@killshotz6747 Yes and to follow up my earlier gripe I purchased the amazon protection plan that said I would not have to do anything they would come to me and fix it even if I dropped it....I did not drop it but they are sending me a brand new one on Monday(Acer said I could mail it to them....I said no way in Heck!!! and contacted amazon because I purchased the accident protection for four years)....they were very courteous and are sending me the new one and the old one gets dropped off after at Kohls(so I can transfer my files with the computer here)....turned out to be a SDD hard drive failure (probably just loose, but if you crack it open to fix it yourself you void your warranty and protection plans). Still a great computer...backed up by Amazon and they gave great service(WAYYYYYY better than ACER)

Currently using my acer predator helios 300 for like approx 3 years . Its been amazing
Last year's Helios 300 did have 4 zone RGB lighting, just not on the base model. For that, you had to get the higher tier RTX 2060 model of the Helios 300, which I have and have no regrets buying. At first though, I was like "maybe I should have waited for the 2020 model", but then that would have still been a 6 month wait and I really needed a new laptop for college cause my mid 2013 base Macbook Air was just not holding up to my needs (I do alot of video and photo editing in my course). But, I'm glad I bought the 2019 model when I did, gaming is great and it's been a huge life saver for me in my requirements. HOWEVER if the 2020 Helios 300 came with the new Ryzen 7 4800H, HOO BOY, I may have had some regrets.
Wish they left out the hard drive area so it could have a bigger battery
I think manufacturers should start making battery extension that could fill that 2.5" drive bay. Not everyone wants to fill it with another storage. Some, me included, just want a longer battery life.
RGB keyboard lighting came out with the 2019 model, not just blue. 240Hz screen is definitely a huge plus on the 2020 model.
I wonder if the air intake on top with identical fans will make a difference as the 2019 version get quite bloody hot but is still an awesome machine

The reason is quite simple....Acer wants you to buy newer models....and therefore will not be reducing the price of 2019 model....you gotta wait for some sale or something if you interested in buying

The new Helios 300 2020 looks great. It's good to know that there is a grid on the top to take more fresh air. I hope this new improvement decreases the temperature even more and with less fan noise. I would like to have a predator with more battery instead of the HD 2.5 bay. Thanks for the video.

Biggest question is the noise level. My 2019 helios 300 is a jet engine when playing games. I dont expect a laptop to be silent but hearing the hum of the fans over my headphones is never fun. The rest of the machine is a beast so im curious if they improved on this or not.
Do you just leave the fans on max? That's the only time I hear the fans.

@Ivan Tsanev some people have to carry their laptops around constantly for work, so that's a deciding factor when they buy one. Other than that it's just sitting on a table, so it literally does not matter.
