I got the official ROG case and thought I wouldn’t like it, but needed something right away for travel and it’s actually a great case. Is more sturdy than you might think from videos and has subtle hole cutouts for the thumb sticks. It’s a perfect fit and if you’re putting it inside another bag, like a backpack, I think it’s more than sufficient to protect it.

Silicon power really does amazing budget stuff, I bought a ddr4 ram kit from them for my PC and it's been wonderful, bought a microSD for my tablet and never given me any trouble, also a 512gb microSD for the steam deck and that also is working amazingly I saw over on Amazon they got a 2tb nvme gen 4 SSD for like $80
When it comes to other docks, some can supposedly provide 100 watts but the Ally's charger for some reason isn't communicating correctly to provide full power. Ironically, the official Steam Deck dock is the only alternative (so far) to put the Ally in desktop mode.
Important note: The Ally showing 25W with a dock that support enough PD juice is a bug... you could check with the on-screen "real-time monitor" and how much power it's drawing. I got the same APU watt consumption with my 100W PD dock (showing 25W) and the official charger connected directly (30W).
@@fonejacker0 That really depends on the SD card quality and the current update. The most I've seen was the slot itself dying or the driver randomly not working for some people.

I just brought a Benazcap 7-in-1 Aluminum Docking Station from Amazon mainly because it was cheap when you showed that yours wasn't doing the full 53w I had a look at mine, and it was the full fat 53w FPPT. I'm amazed as it only cost me £20.
So one small correction: You said you can multiply watts and amps to get how much power is being used. Amps * volts = watts (overall power being used). Watts if it’s provided by this battery pack tells you exactly how much power is being used without needing to calculate anything. Couple of extra details about why this is: It’s not accurate, but a common analogy is a water pipe. The size of the pipe is like the voltage. The rate of flow of the water is like the amps. So for a 10 watt phone charger basically you have electricity provided at a voltage (strength) of 5 volts and a amperage (rate) of 2 amps. This gives 10 watts of power.
Thanks I just ordered screen protectors to my new Asus ROG Ally! I linked to Your channel after the buy when they asked how I found out about them Big thanks
I bought 2 of those SP cards, both failed to ever write a game in either steam or gamepass in either exFat or NTFS. Bought the TG and had no issues since.
Personally, I would not consider a screen protector for the ROG Ally unless there were one with a low reflectivity similar to the Ally's screen. Most people don't appreciate the benefits of low reflectivity screens, as our brains are accustomed to filtering out the reflections, but to me it is a major part of what makes the Ally's screen so good. I also don't believe a screen protector provides any significant protection -- it's not like a phone that will be repeatedly stuffed into a pocket with keys or other hard objects, and a hard bump on the screen can still crack the Ally's screen with or without a screen protector. By the time micro-scratches are a problem, it will be time to upgrade to the Ally 2 or 3 anyway. Just my 2 cents. A couple of other accessories I would suggest are a magnetic USB C adapter to help minimize wear-and-tear to the USB port, and for the convenience. I also found a port cover that covers the XG port leaving only an opening for the USB cable, which would make it easier to see the actual USB C port in a dimly lit room, but I also like it from a cosmetic perspective (not a fan of the large black XG connector that I will never use). I did buy a Baseus 100W PD USB C cable with readout after seeing a similar cable in one of ETA PRIME's prior videos. I can also recommend the UGREEN Steam Deck dock that appears to support full power (sustained 30W APU power) with my Baseus cable, magnetic USB C adapter, and my Anker 715 (Nano II 65W). Hope this helps.
Commenting on the dock statement. Not all but some of the docks including the ones you have there will in fact push over 35Watt using a 100watt charger. Note that the cable as well has to support 100watt or above (Anker is best for both cases here) and even tho its stuck at 25watt per software if you have the info usage where it shows the current wattage you will see it be around 45 watt like if you just had the official ASUS charger hooked up to it. This is just a software bug that ASUS is well aware of and will release a patch soon according to there latest post in the ASUS ROG Ally discord.
So in armoury crate when setting up a manual overclock, what's the highest boost tdp you can go when docked? Mine goes to 53 watts. I think that's what he's trying to show.
for the charger thing its a very simple problem solvable by getting a stronger charger due to the dock needing its own power and the ally charger is an exact one.
What's your opinion on the ROG Ally issues? (Stick Dead Zones, SD cards and or SD slots burning out, etc?) I just had to return mine due to the SD card slot detroying my card, then itself, then overheating itself for no reason and finally just not powering on correctly.
I am returning mine for the same reason. I have accessories but returning those as well. This ordeal has brought me closer to my steamdeck. Why Asus Why!! It was so nice at first, but the dead zones are easily noticed and the SD card issue is not going to be salvageable. I think too close to heat source, even with manual fan curve it still gets hot. May get when version 2 fixes all these issues and Windows releases a handheld OS with no bloat.
I got a 90 degree USB-C adapter so the power cord wouldn’t sway side to side and put pressure on the connector. Really enjoying it so far, albeit it’s a minor upgrade
FYI, there are more than enough reports on the Ally's heat vents damaging micro SD cards. I'd recommend holding off until ASUS fixes (they've acknowledged the issue at least)!
One of my must have accessories was the stand I picked up on Etsy from a private seller. They were not only the nicest one I have seen, they also have the highest number of color variations and the stand comes with a port cover. Most sellers on there sell them separately but that seller gave me three with my stand purchase. Plus it shipped out fast and made it from the middle of the US to Florida in about a day.
For the internal storage expansion, I used the Sabrent Rocket 2TB 2230 m.2 drive. On sale now for $219 from it's original price of $299. So far there have been no issues and the response when accessing stored information is amazing. The one I got is the white label with the gold sabrent emblem. Not the black label one. They're both fast, just the white label is the newer one designed for just this purpose. As for SD cards, I'm waiting for UHS-2 cards to pass 256GB capacities. The read, wrote and transfer speeds are amazing on them as compared to UHS-1 cards. Right now I'm only using the SD for storage of older games like NFS Undercover and rollercoaster tycoon that don't require the higher read speeds. If you have any issues with the keyboard coming up when trying to type in WiFi passwords or anything else, the Ally recognizes USB keyboards. I used a USB-A to USB-C adapter and connected my USB keyboard to it. Worked perfectly.
@@josephl3602I ordered my 2TB WD 2230 gen 4 nvme M2 for $122. It's worth the wait imo. These Amazon prices are crazy when the 2280 2T are only $140 or so.
Fantastic content and reviews as always! I've also had endless headaches with docking the Ally. The hubs that are on the market do not do it consistently. It can be a connection issue, voltage issue, or some other issue that causes inconsistent linking with monitors. I've tried several monitors and HDMI cables and it is actually an issue with the docks themselves. I know Asus makes a docking charger, but I haven't been able to find any in the wild yet. Here's hoping for a cost effective alternative!

Is your firmware on the latest version? Asus might be power limiting the desktop mode until they fix some of the heat problems that are coming up. SD cards getting fried and even some people are claiming their whole unit overheated to the point of breaking.

I bought a ugreen steam deck dock for my Ally and the armory crate complains that my 100w charger is not good enough. I looked at the watts on metrics display and it was providing 30w on turbo mode. So this means the armory crate is buggy and Asus are aware of this issue.
Same I even did a ton of research trying to find a dock that will 100% support the 65w and the 100w dock I ended up getting doesn't appease AC. Makes me mad it tells me to use its charger WHEN IM USING ITS CHARGER lol.

I am confident that Asus will fix the problem with Armory Crate displaying incorrect power levels and false warnings.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried connecting a 65w or 100w directly to the ROG Ally. You figure if it's a wattage issue,. connecting a non -proprietary 65w charger directly to the Ally, will do the trick..but they want you to buy their adapter or XG mobile unit. Unless they release an update for it, to accept 3rd party accessories or they inform 3rd parties on what parameters the stands should have
Silicon Power 1TB said on their page: "NOTE: It is not advised to use this product with the Steam Deck or ROG-Ally. Doing so may result in degraded performance." Not the best time to advise SD card without putting a disclaimer regarding SD card issue which Asus is addressing. Should be advising people to set manual fan curve if they're still want to use it...
I think the reason is the heat in these handhelds could increase the chance of burning the cards out. It's a good time since we don't know if these cards are designed to be sitting in a lot of heat and they don't want to take the blame. All the heat of a PC handheld is in a small area unlike on a laptop the sd card is far away from the heat of the cpu and gpu.
Yes I had a little $15 dollar usb c hub with hdmi 2 usb 2.0 and sd cards, and power in for up to 65w charger but o didn’t fast charge the ally, so I went to Best Buy and buy a $100 dollar anker hub with 2 hdmi, 2 usb 3.1, sd card, micro sd card, Ethernet and 100w charger, and still don’t charge my ally at 65 even with a anker 100w charger or the original ally charger, so the problem is the ally! I hope the do and update, so it works because I like to use a 90 degree usb charhe
ROG Ally just fried my 1tb Lexar Play card using turbo mode when docked. How is your card holding up? I had monitoring turned on and I saw the Temp kick up to 90 degrees C and just after that it fried. SD is stuck in Read Only mode and can’t be formatted. If you use an SD Card with this beware. It will cook it like bacon on .322 firmware.
One thing needs to be changed on this. Do NOT format in NTFS. exFAT is specifically designed for high capacity SD cards, performs better than NTFS does on these cards, is a more open standard that has better support and, contrary to what you said here, exFAT supports larger files than NTFS. I think you were confusing exFAT with FAT32. Realistically though, it doesn't matter which in regard to file sizes as their limits for a single file are extremely large.
That is not true. NTFS is better for games because they are made up of a large amount of small files. Now if you are using it for video exFAT is better because it is a large single file Hope this clears up the confusion.
@@zerojayzero True. But it's a microSD card which doesn't really need journaling. They are used in mobile, battery powered devices. The chances of anything happening to cause data loss (like sudden power failure) are far more slim than on a desktop device like your PC. Journaling also doubles the write cycles leading to the card failing sooner.
@@lodi100xx If you set the exFAT allocation size to 32 kb (from the default 256) when formatting, you can minimize that difference to the point of being negligible while still being able to use that card in other devices down the road, should you find the need to.
I return 2 of mine we purchase from best buy after 2 days of use they got burnt overheated and then black screen. Then purchase onexplayer mini pro best console I ever own now. Buyers beware of this.
So I ordered an Ally but I haven't got it just yet. I started seeing reviews about the heat dissipation being an issue to the point that it's ruining micro SD cards. Have you noticed anything like this? A follow up video about this issue would be super appreciated.
Careful with inserting SD cards as of now. There's a known issue/bug where the SD card becomes unreadable. Either it's a software bug or the SD card reader overheats. You can get around this by sticking an SD card reader into the USB C slot. Another protip until there's better cases for the Ally - A Nintendo Switch Case meant for a Nintendo Switch Hori Pad Split Pro works PERFECTLY for the ROG Ally.

I also got the UGREEN Steam Deck dock and saw a sustained APU power of 30W with my Anker 715 (Nano II 65W), a Baseus PD 100W USB C cable with display, and a magnetic USB C adapter (which I recommend for reducing wear-and-tear on the Ally's USB port). I am confident that Asus will fix the problem with Armory Crate displaying incorrect power levels and false warnings.
do not use sd cards because they might break in the ally use an ssd instead thank me later
Thought there was a smudge after the screen protector was on, but it was just my own phone screen.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried connecting a 65w or 100w directly to the ROG Ally. You figure if it's a wattage issue,. connecting a non -proprietary 65w charger directly to the Ally, will do the trick..but they want you to buy their adapter or XG mobile unit. Unless they release an update for it, to accept 3rd party accessories or they inform 3rd parties on what parameters the stands should have
I’m not about to get 30w turbo with my 65w ace fast charger/dock that I had for my Steam deck and Switch.
Great videos, i just want to know how to set up the rog ally for emulation. Like retroarch and dreamcast emulator
How come reviewers suggesting power banks for handheld PCs always go for 20,000mAh instead of the ones with 40k or higher?
I got the dbrand screen protector. Get it, the amazon ones are trash. Go big or go...broken?
I can’t get my ally to recognize anything but ASUS stuff as a 65w. Thankfully I don’t use mine in a way to need full on turbo
SO Asus is doing a APPLE and locking down features to their own hardware you had to buy. You support this sort of thing?
Silicon Power 1TB said on their page: "NOTE: It is not advised to use this product with the Steam Deck or ROG-Ally. Doing so may result in degraded performance."
Not the best time to advise SD card without putting a disclaimer regarding SD card issue which Asus is addressing.
@@smidlee7747the heat of the handheld has actually been cooking SD cards from what I understand.
Are you gonna be making a video about Pixel Fold emulation? 👀
What ear buds would you recommend for zero or close to zero latency? I have yet to find a pair that don't bother me.
Exfat doesn't support journaling though, so there's a higher chance of losing your data.
That is not true. NTFS is better for games because they are made up of a large amount of small files. Now if you are using it for video exFAT is better because it is a large single file
Hope this clears up the confusion.
The shipping on Dbrand is ridiculously long
Hi, do you think the OXP2 will fit the bag? Thanks!
Please can you share your wallpaper? 🙏🏼😍
Hi i have a question .
Can you please try usb c to hdmi adapter instead of the dock , i hope it won’t cut power
You don’t have to say ‘Ally’ every other word, we know what the video is about
Yes even my $120 dollar anker hub that is a 100w charger it does not fast charge it
Dbrand really nice
We need Loki device in the building!!!!
Can you show how fast a game plays off the sd card
Is that Silicon Power? I have not had good luck with them. Would not recommend.
Why does this feel like the third video of this topic you've made
Ally mate is out btw
Good video thank you
I return 2 of mine we purchase from best buy after 2 days of use they got burnt overheated and then black screen. Then purchase onexplayer mini pro best console I ever own now. Buyers beware of this.
ETA still milking that asus money😂
For hdmi dock? Can it reach 120hz using the dock and 144hz monitor?
This is now the ROG Ally accessories channel
Do you get Turbo mode when that battery pack is plugged in?.
Lol don’t get the Dbrand one that’s such a rip off 30-40 for just 2 I got 3 for 15$ on Amazon that fit the ally great
can you send the link?
It's $29.95 including shipping not even 30.
@@lodi100xx okay but the amfilm came out to like 17 shipped I’m just trynna help if you want to pay your 29.99 that’s you bro
@@RiddimWubzFan amfilm is a perfect fit and ivoler is a good one to
@@N54htmare I already bought the dbrand protector and I got it the first try, no problem. The dbrand one is probably more durable, and in my opinion you buy nice or buy twice. Not knocking you for buying the cheaper one but you pay for what you get. I'd rather pay more for a premium reputable brand over a no name from Amazon, knowing that I can trust it will protect my device.
Hi ETA Prime. Is the sd slot safe to use. Rog Ally is an amazing pc handheld, and I have no problem with it. I am thinking of returning the device because of the SD slot burning.
mines ruined a SanDisk 1tb extreme sd card, so I'm returning the Ally today unfortunately
The way i use my SD card is by using it externally by using a sd card reader adapter and plug it in to the hdmi charging dock. Maybe possible to use a sd card reader that has type c too.
@ashleyfox1514 why return the ally and not just wait till they release a fix and then get a new sd card?
@@Punisher_JKU because I emailed them to complain and explained what happened and said there's nothing we can do unless you send the device and sd card for tests/research
@@ashleyfox1514if you tested the card in other machines you'd see the card is fine. The card reader is what burns out
I have the same battery pack but when I plug in to my ally I can only get max 35 waty and not the 55... How did you get around that?
Will u test the one that has the fan
Curious. If i have an extra dbrand screen protector for the steam deck can i use it with the ally?
I'm sorry but is this not the 3rd or 4th Ally accessories video you've made?
How do I connect a wired razer keyboard to that specific asus dock?
Where to get that Asus rog wallpaper?
Did your ally ever get SD card failure
Any update to your Sd card ?
The Ally has an anti glare screen and gorilla glass, dunno why people put screen protectors on these...
