At 4:30 the Y-button already got stuck and rotated a little in its socket after it was pushed harder. It snapped into place when pushed again. This here clearly shows it can happen pretty easily. I've never seen buttons that can be rotated stuck like this. The tabs are indeed too small.

I honestly appreciate someone doing the scratch tests, and a destructive endurance test. This is honestly great information about what you can expect the product to survive.
It hurts to watch tho
I agree still hurts 🤕
it's very cool to watch, but it's in no way realistic or useful to the common consumer.
i can't think of a scenario where a small valuable device well experience incidents like this.
the only realistic tests are:
1- drop test
2- key scratching test (done by actual keys, not a sharp knife)

Totally loved that you were playing "Moving Out!" That's become a household favorite
Well Zack I'd say the one thing you forgot to plug up was the left stick LED light up ring. Thank you for a informative video. Appreciate your content!
Those holographic stickers are kinda impressive. I legit thought they were RGB in other videos I've seen
I never expected to hear your announcement!
I for one support your candidacy
Jerry should do a durability test on the oceangate subs. Will be really helpful.
Amazing how easy it is to disassemble, and to remove the battery.
They even use phillips screws. A kid can open it easily.
i love how he impatiently tears off the plastic covers and tosses the charger away, excited to get to the bending thing
I feel glad Jerry was able to put them back and working again thanks gods it was not difficult like the vacuum
I laughed so much just listening to this video in the background - love your dry sense of humor and the comments you make : "two vibrators"; 'I like to buy two screen protectors and break them both"; " the unit is so hot it's doing a flame test on itself" - classic Jerry 🤣😂
Finding it’s a Windows machine and not watching Zack casually throw the Edge shortcut into the Bin feels wrong somehow 😂😂
Haha! The edge delete cracks me up
So few people actually talk about how hot these devices get... That's one of the main reasons why I don't want to play on my phone. I don't like it if my devices get hot, but at least with the stationary computer I don't feel it directly.
it doesn’t get hot where your hands are placed
Watching this just hurts my soul, but I can’t stop watching all the videos. 😅 love all the videos man
I believe that you are actively spreading love with your beautiful voice, even while destroying things. All the best!
One major flaw exponentially spreading out in the last hours Is related to the position of SD card reader, placed near a huge heat source and under the heatpipe/fan assembly. Please be careful and don't let stock fan curves, and avoid playing too much in turbo mode with high temperatures... Considering returning my unit tho, just search rog ally SD card failure to figure out the problem.. sad design choice for this component.. beside that as usual great video and sad because I love my ally so far
Me too, the Ally is great. But i don't get it, why they Made such a terrible cooling system, when the ones, that the ROG Phone provides, are really over the top.
I'm wondering if you could put a little bit of heat shielding inside or something to protect the SD slot
@@stormchaser8472 Seems like a lot of effort for something that won't really prevent the problem. The best course of action is to relocate the micro SD Card slot. Someone will probably come up with a mod to relocate the micro SD card slot to the bottom of the Ally, like on the steam deck, but I'd honestly just wait for revision 2 that will probably have the slot relocated without the need for this.
@@joemann7971 Or remove the slot and use an OTG adaptor, or hack-job SD reader module bridging and relocating.
Use a memory card with a low transfer speed that solves the problem. A high-speed memory card stops working if the temperature exceeds 80 degrees.
You forgot to fully connect the Antenna lines at 9:46 🎉🎉🎉🎉 a ❤ will be appreciated 😊
Just stumbled on to your videos I’ll be checking back to see if you do a PlayStation portable tear down as my friends and I have been discussing portable systems this year a lot. Thanks for great content. The flexing of the unit had me cringing so hard like Noooooooo it’s a good machine 😂
Cheap, organized and beautiful assembly, a combination of everything.

I’ve been having a blast with my ally so far. Great for taking my pc stuff out and about when I’m travelling. Good to see ally actually being on top of stuff as well. A lot of people thought they wouldn’t be.

Awesome video, I wish people did the classic "Drop it onto concrete in my driveway from 10 feet" tests like they would in the olden days of youtube XD feels more of a realistic test then scratching or bending it

Looks like you forgot the tiny white RGB Ribbon. Thanks for the videos.
10:26 you’re right! Right joystick doesn’t turn on
From what I've seen, it getting unreasonably hot is pretty common and in one video i saw just installing a game got the device hot enough that it damaged it's own screen causing the right side to be permanently brighter than the rest of the screen
It's weird mine is pretty chill even with heavy gaming maybe it ie because of the recent BIOS updates i did immediately after taking it out of the box
@@IronCladFaithsame I got one for my kid and we’ve had no issue my only gripe was they sell a 60$ power brick and it doesn’t even support usb 3.0 speeds and bottle necks in heavy games but other then that no complaints

Is this Ally a preview unit or retail? Interested to know if the retail buttons differ internally? I've had no issues getting the buttons stuck even when I try, but I know the review units had a reported problem which they said they'd fixed (but I'm not sure I believe them).
6:50 Bestagons! You got my like right there

that is literally the entire channel summed up 😂
so much good a advance tech out there i don't know what to choose.
It was the right joy stick RGB you forgot to plug in. :) love your videos!
You should update its firmware (BIOS and whatever Asus is providing). It alleviated a lot of the issues found in earlier versions. Asus cannot update the firmware on units that were already produced.
They need an API to do that.
@@banditoincognito8950do you even know what an API is lmao
@@banditoincognito8950pmsl, Best joke yet
But, why not add a "CASE FAN", A 3'rd fan on the bottom with a diffuser blower exhaust inside the unit, allowing it to semi-actively cool the PCB/Motherboard, and not allow the screen to getthathot as a result.
@@Narinjas due to the size of the unit, adding extra fans and exhaust slots wouldn't be possible
The ROG Ally has a ton of post launch issues being reported all over the place. Everything from gaming performance being drastically lower than pre launch review units, SD cards falling out of the unit, SD cards being destroyed quickly due to the exhuast heat blowing right next to the SD card slot, Joystick dead zones, stuck buttons, lots of micro-stutters in just about every game even when runningfrom the internal nvme ssd, etc
Yeah I'm starting to be more careful about planning to buy one with these issues being confirmed...
I was telling people before the ally came out that it isn’t always a good idea to preorder unproven devices. Quite a few couldn’t understand and were asking how I thought a product would succeed if you didn’t buy it when it came out. I feel justified now. The ally has had way more issues than I thought it would. Maybe they can iron it out in a over the next few months but the overheating issue seems to be the worst of the bunch and not a simple fix
For 700 bucks and all these issues its just not worth it.
Personally I’ve had no issues so far, other than the loss of performance after the 3.19 bios update
@@jonservothey have a point. If no one buys a device then 1. It'll have failed and 2. You won't find out these issues exist.
The Ally has a good return policy. A lot of people bought it and if these issues were too much for them they returned it. That's the correct way IMO.
happy birthday to you jerryrig🎈🥳🎂🎉

You forgot to plug in the RGB for the right side thumbstick ^^ Nice presentation, really enjoyed it.
The sd card slot is a major design flaw and should definitely be located at the bottom of the console, my sd card slot cooked and died and so have many others 😞 when you look inside it's obvious why.
Glad to see Jerry still has the Note 10. I refuse to upgrade until he does. Lol
Every time i watch your video's testing durability i hype myself up and say i can get to the end this time, however, it physically hurts me when you scratch up and break apart an expensive new gadget which i would make laat easy beyond the security updates provided. I used my Huawei phone 5 years for instance and it's still my backup phone.

Good video Jerry as usual, have you ever thought of getting a thermal camera so you can show where most of the heat comes from and how hot it gets
ROG is pretty infamous at this point for failures in parts- like their motherboards, for example.
Now we have all kinds of people commenting how their SD cards have been fried or, alternatively, stuck in the SD card slot.
Its eye candy, but ultimately Im glad I went with the Steam Deck. Maybe its not as good "on paper," but paper rarely tells the full story.

one question is on my mind...Why would anyone at ROG cover up such beautiful internals? jUST WHY??? Nice work Zack
Two fans in Rog Ally are the real game changer. Asus's power profile tends to run hot to reduce fan noise, but if you use manual power profile with more aggressive fan curve, you'd be surprised how cool it runs. I use 100% speed at 80° then gradually go down in logarithmic shape. At 18W to 25W my Ally runs at 55°. Even when I crank the Wattage to max on AC, temperature still remains in 60's. Even when fans blowing like crazy my Steam Deck runs high 70 to low 80.
I put it next to my AC 😅 how can i start changing my fan curve
@Solavation You have to put it on AC not next to AC. Come back when you do so. But if you crank up your AC, it should at least keep you and your Ally cool.
/j
so you want even higher power draw?
@@vyor8837 ASUS intentionally set the fans to run slow so they could market it is quieter than the steam deck... but the sdcard problems bit them in the ass as the heat is toasting sd card/the sd card reader

They could've avoided the button issue just by making the buttons long enough to not slip under the shell
The main reason why handhelds like the rog ally get hot is mostly due to how windows handles sleep mode. This is a universal issue that affects other windows portable devices like laptops and tablets. Steam deck users that have installed windows on it might also expeirience the device being hotter then normal in sleep mode.
