SD card reader problems is totally related to heat!! The recent bios updates changed the fan curves. I set a higher manual fan curve, and has completely solved the SD card problems. Best of luck
I was just about to purchase the Anker 737 then I managed to find another powerbank with 27000 mAh capacity (99.9Wh) that can charge at total output of 222watts and I still saved 75$ compared to the price of the Anker. It was even included a protective carrying case. It is a good idea to check out prices before purchasing because you can save a lot of money and still get a better product.
@@volcalstone I did not factor in a coupon that I did not know about of course :) (My fault for not mentioning that I don't live in the US I live in Norway) It is not on a discounted price on any website in the country I live in and I don't know the price in every other country. Anker747 is sold for the equivalent of 157$ on the cheapest website or physical shop in my country according to a price tracker that checks pricing in almost all shops here. The powerbank that I purchased costed me 84$ and has got bigger capacity with 222 watts of combined output. It supports 2x PD100 devices charing at the same time + PPS standard for devices that use it.
I had to exchange my ally for another one because of the sd card reader. Some people have done their own research and this specific card reader is only rated to withstand 70 degrees C. The reader is right next to one of the vents. In turbo mode the ally can get up to 95C. Unless asus throttles the sd card reader I don’t think much can be done about it until a revision releases maybe
@@YourPlayer2 I did create a manual mode and messed with the fan curves. I actually get better performance at around 19-22 W. It’s crazy that just by doing that my temps stay around 60-62 C. When I put it in turbo mode it goes all the way to 92-95 C. I feel like even the stock Turbo mode doesn’t have a good fan curve and Asus needs to update them. How can 30W bring the temps up by more than 20-25 degrees C ? That’s a huge increase. Anyone else notice that ?
Some cool accessories! That battery pack must be a must have considering how fast the regular battery uncharges while playing! I wouldn't trust a flimsy stand that comes inside the protective case to put an expensive device like that on it! I would prefer if the case was in sturdier plastic to make sure that it's well protected! I'm sure you'll eventually do a sort of part 2 to this once there are more accessories available that are worth a try! Great video and keep up the good work!
Oh it TOTALLY is a must-have! The stand that comes with the device itself AND the travel case aren't ideal, but that little 8 dollar one from Amazon's still kicking and fits the Ally even better :) Yup, I'm sure more accessory stuff in the future but for now these are a solid start. Thanks as always, Dan :)
At first from early impressions I thought it would be uncomfortable since it was so angular but having gotten my hands on it now I think I actually prefer it from a comfort perspective :)
@@YourPlayer2 yea, someone might be likely to travel on a plane with it, but youre taking a risk of not being denied. Great content and keep up the awesome videos!
Seems like SD cards can overheat in the Ally due to the positioning inside. If you use a custom fan curve to max out fans at 80 degress or close to it then it can help avoid SD card issues.
The charger Dock is actually pretty tempting. Its perfect for expanding the functionality on the go. It's also a superior charger to the included, since I can use my 3m braided cable with it. I'll probably use it as my main charger and keep the included charger with the larger Dock at home. The Switch has something similar with the Covert Dock.
So far I'd say it's my favorite of the accessories as it's the most solid/useful, and I didn't even notice it was a better charger so good to know! For me I'm keeping the charger dock here at the desk for capturing footage and putting the OEM charger in my living room. I'll have to look up the Covert Dock, but honestly the Switch doesn't get a TON of play for me nowadays outside of Tears of the Kingdom anyways :p
@@wohoo245yeah it's not worth the full price. If it goes on sale for around $40 then yeah sure. I understand that it comes with a power adapter vs just a standing dock with gigabit LAN which could be had for around as low as $15.

Yeap my reader worked great for about a week. Then it didn’t and caused issues with games not booting up. Like you noticed the SD card Extreme Pro I used for $123 still worked outside the Ally. I even formatted and downloaded games back to it from my pc. Then the Ally read the games fine for a little bit and then stopped again. Seems like the Ally has a very cheap SD card reader that is only good for reading data files for work stuff and not games. So it forces you upgrade the internal M.2 for expansion or use and external expansion nvme or SD device. It’s a shame. I’ll still keep my device though as I really enjoy it.
Glad to hear they let you get a refund on it! Really hope they get this sorted out (assuming that's possible) because that's a heck of a black eye for an otherwise capable Steam Deck competitor.
The travel case is not a good stand because the ally heats up too much since it’s covering the back. I was only able to play for an hour with it and it got so hot that I couldn’t play anymore so I decided to go ahead and grab the cardboard stand which has been working great lol
Oooh I hadn't considered that but another good point! The little stand base I featured is still working well for me though, particularly in docked mode :)
I got the same exact mouse and it's awesome. I'm using it with 2.4GHz tho but I noticed the range isn't that far. Like it needs line or slight. I was trying to pair it via bluetooth but I couldn't get it to pair. I even disabled my prior device bluetooth as well. I do like that it matches dead on like you said. I haven't installed the Razer software yet tho.

Sd card functions abit weird. I went thru 3x 1tb sd cards. They all corrupted when downloading directly to sd from steam or other platforms. Luckily i returned them as defective. What i do now is download all my games from steam to the ssd and then transfer them to sd. U can do the same for other platforms. So far no corruptions and working well. Also, dont try to remove sd after using ally for some time as the slot area gets really hot. 9 out of 10 times sd card will become gummy (the printed logo side) and get stuck when trying to remove. Just cool first and turn off ally before inserting or taking out sd card. I think the location of sd card slot with the hot fan exhaust is a poorly engineered design. Other than that, im happy with the device.
Ahhh now THAT I haven't tried so I'll give it a whirl. I haven't had any cards becoming melty yet but I'll definitely be more mindful of that now and appreciate the heads-up :) And same- Definitely some issues here but by and large enjoying the Ally!

The official Ally case is an absolute disgrace and insult to the consumer and the device. Imagine having such an expensive device with a cheap case. Ridiculous.
The most important Ally accessory is a Ghostbuster Proton Backpack so you can keep the Ally's batteries charged up for a few hours.
