Interesting question, in summary, both berberine and fiber can contribute to better glucose metabolism. While berberine directly affects insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake thru a critical enzyme AMPK, fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels by slowing down digestion and promoting satiety. Incorporating both into one's diet may offer synergistic benefits.
Thank you Dr. Dave. I not only watched but saved many of your podcasts. By the way, I'm taking berberine too. I'm not diabetic. Just want to regular my blood sugar. Your fiber video made me subscribed instantly. Keep up your good job.
i think for keeping the blood sugar low and to lose some weight, the fiber is a good idea to combine it with a protein shake. if it is the right fiber mixture, it gives you an instant feeling of satiety that not every protein shake does when taken without fiber.

Is it true that you lose muscle mass while on berberine?
Can we stop calling it broadly fibre, and be specific about which TYPE of fibre please? Or could we do a video on the difference, and how to supplement each type, if we can’t get through diet?
Q. Do either of these help lower blood sugars when your sugars are naturally low? That is, you don't have diabetes or pre-diabetes .. let's say your A1C is like 5.0? Will it lower it further?
Good video doctor.
Thank you!
What time is good to take Berberine 500mg ?
with meal and not on an empty stomach I guess
Berberine is quite pricey here in South Africa
Interesting to hear that. Thanks for the insight!
Yeah Berberine in South Africa cost $22 dollars for a month supply whilst metformin is only $2.10. Have been using Berberine for ages with no side effects. However 1500mg of Berberine per day will cost me $33 dollars per month, which is a lot in rand terms. Trying metformin and so far no side effect. So is metformin safe to use?
@@ajm1162 I've heard *some* studies found a negative cardio-exercise effect from metformin. That said, I've taken extended release version for years. Effective for blood glucose control, but causes me diarrhea.
How about acacia fiber I think that's actually made in Senegal and other African countries too😮
Did you try using chromium?@@ajm1162
Why not the more highly bioavailable dihydroberberine? I take 2 delayed release tabs/day night and morning. availale from the Oregon company who make enduracin. They are making it after a request from a research group at the University of Oregon who were investigating berberine efficacy.
MyFitness pal says, I’m getting about 27 - 30 / day
What kind of fiber do you recommend doc?
Almonds
Psyllium husk
@@perserverance333 No Almonds as it has high oxalates and toxins unless you soak in sea salt for 8 hours and air dry then in the oven on low temp 130° for about 6 to 8 hours. Be very careful with nuts that are high in oxalates .
Good question. I like psyllium because it's been widely researched in diabetes and it's also widely available. Here's a coupon code for a local California brand I like: www.naturlax.com/a/drdaveclayton
@@drdaveclayton thanks so much for the coupon
Why is it one versus the other? Why not take both?
does the fiber block absorption of other nutrients?
It's a common misconception. Our digestive tract is designed to work on way more fiber than I'm recommending. You'll get plenty of nutrients even with the extra fiber - I promise!
Which fiber is the best to buy?
acacia fiber
Me,i usualy eats white rice with rice brand then in the evening im taking berberine.
Any thoughts on using Dihydro Berberine rather than regular Berberine?
I’ve heard some opinions that it is better but most research is on regular berberine. Good question!
Just remember people who take blood pressure medicine better check with your doctor FIRST!!
Yes, always check with your doctor before starting any supplements. Thanks for watching!
@@DeniseHlavaty are you just being cautious or do you have a reason? It takes forever to see a doctor in the UK. If I have to wait it will be at least a month to 6 weeks before I get an appointment.
Thank you for posting this video. It is very valuable. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
that was really interesting thankyou! really liked how you went over dosage amounts a lot. I love that you did this comparison
Glad it was helpful!
Do you take fiber and berberine together? Or is it one or the other?
A tablespoon of fiber is about or just under 15grams
What fiber is recommended
Great question! I left a link in the description. My favorite is psyllium 👍
Can people take Berberine even if not diabetic?
Of course! Check with your doctor first! Thanks for watching.
Can you take Berberine and Metformin at the same time?
It's a good question. Given that they work in similar fashion I wouldn't expect to see much additional benefit in combination. Always check with your doctor! Thanks for watching :)
@@drdaveclayton Thanks for the response. While she typed Berberine into my record after telling her about it, my doctor asked me how to spell it. I don't think she'll have an answer.
Both
Moringa fiber :)
Can you take berberine and fiber at the same time
Yes! Great question 👍
I find that berberine has too many side effects. I take gymnema sylvestre. I take fiber too.
What kind of fiber?
Psyllium Husks. Please check the description for my recommendation and a discount.
Can we take berberine and fiber at same time?
Absolutely! They both work in different ways. Thanks for watching and for the question!
Thank you so much!
You sure can but you might be wasting $$$$ on that berberine. The same fiber blocks or slows sugar absorption, so it does with all other nutrients. Yr berberine will partly bond to the fiber and go down the toilet. Do not take supplements/ vitamins with fiber supplement.
Can you give me recommend fiber. Im taking fiber capsules but cant tell how many milligrams they are
Sure thing. I left a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Most fiber tablets have only a gram or so of fiber. I would recommend using a powder so you can get enough fiber to make a difference. I left a link in the description. Thanks for watching!
We in the kidney community typically take acacia fiber to help us remove the toxins that's usually our go to❤
Where can we buy fibre tablets..
There's not much fiber in tablets. I'd recommend using a powdered form. Check the links in the description for my recommendations. Thanks for watching!
Or search high fibre foods 😊
Best supplement = FASTING
Love intermittent fasting 👍
fiber changes the gut bacteria, that needs time and with this adaptation, the gut problems go away
Couldn't agree more.
If Berberrine does not work for you switch to Ceylon Cinnamon.
Thanks!!... :(
people average 16 to 17 grams of fiber per day?!?!
Like wow! If that doesn't indicate a poor diet I don't know what would.
Should be getting at least 20 grams per 1,000 calories and that should be from food, not supplements.
No wonder why some people are in such poor health.
Whats the best fiber supplement
I left a link in the description. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for the great question!
Psyllium husk
