About 6 months ago, my prostate was enlarging. My decade long regimen of lycopene and wasn't effective anymore. The addition of 30 mg twice a day B-sitosterol for one month reversed my symptoms. Now I learn why blocking DHT downstream, in addition to blocking 5-Reductase is needed to do the trick. Great presentation, precise and targeted. Thanks Dr Clayton.
@ssnow91ify Dosage is mentioned on every bottle. Personally I will go with a higher dose to flood my depleted body for a few days then stabilize it to suggested... Hope this helps
Thank you for this information. I'm 71, at the point where I'm faced from the urologist with medication the rest of my life or surgery, I wish neither. I've been on lycopene, Saw Palmetto, zinc and pomegranate at my wifes concern for the past couple of weeks, hopefully this regime will work well, thanks again.
Tom, I'm 73 and just like you I'm between the urologists scalpel and a hard place... I'm scheduled for a visit this September in a few weeks. I began taking lycopene capsules in low 2 mg doses about two months ago with no idea of possible medical effects or of the effects of the amount of the dose. Nothing seemed to change so after a month I doubled my dose to 10 mg and increased my schedule from once a day to once at each meal (3 times a day). Suddenly I had a nite where I slept the entire night! At this point with no side effects, I began the past month with much larger doses...taking two 40 mg capsules (80 mg) with each meal. Suddenly my visits to the bathroom started to become much more like I was years ago! (I am not just saying this, I am now beginning to lose the urges and urinary muscle frustration that has kept me from travelling when I want to travel or going places without constant anxiety. The truth will be my next PSA results and exam in a few weeks. I just want everyone to know I found 80 mg with each meal (or 240 mg per day) seemed to be the level of lycopene that finally gave me results that were unquestionable. I hope this helps you and saves you the trouble of finding a working dose. So far, for me (I'm 5'11" and 185 pounds) there are no negative effects of taking 80 mg three times a day, and my prostrate troubles appear to be diminishing! Good luck, I hope this helps and YOU have positive results my friend...our generation has survived too much for a damned prostrate to defeat us!

Congrats on your success! Thanks for the feedback! I spent two weeks working on that animation, so really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
@@drdaveclayton It was worth the effort. That animation was very valuable in helping all of us understand the working mechanism of zinc absorption and the conversion process of T to DHT via the 5-alpha enzyme.
Where do you get those doses? Beta-Sitosterol is usually available in doses of 375mg to 1,000mg. This video suggests 60mg per day divided into 3 doses. Lycopene is the opposite extreme. Lycopene comes in doses around 10mg to 25mg and this video suggests 500mg.

Great video. I'm 65 and have taken zinc since my 20's for prostate health and it has seemed to help, I used to take 15 mg a day but have found it difficult to find any smaller than 25 mg. the last few years so I now take 25 mg. I have also taken 160 mg. saw palmetto extract which includes another 15 mg. zinc,, 40 mg pumpkin seed oil, 5 mg vitamin B6, and 5 mg uva-ursi extract 2x a day. I have most of my symptoms at night, taking flo-max really helps but tends to increase my heart rate by about 22 beats per minute, so I only take it when I have a significant flare-up. I eat spaghetti sauce 2x a week which has lycopene in it but I'm going to try adding Lycopene supplements to my saw palmetto regimen & see if that helps. I recently had an ultrasound of my bladder & kidneys & they found that my prostate was "BIG", and they referred me to an Oncologist, but my PSA is normal. I don't plan on getting a biopsy done, my Dad had one once (no cancer found) and he said it was quite painful.
Get a CT/PET/MRI to make sure there are no tumors. Only "targeted" biopsies are acceptable in my book and only after one of those scans shows something.
What has worked wonderfully for me is Saw Palmetto - even the very 1st pill... so amazing, and yet I know it doesn't work for everybody... but I'm thankfull for the results I have seen...

Could you comment on these supplements for the aprostate. Also, is it safe and effective along with Betasitosterol and lycopene?
The main issue with the supplements is cost and time to see results. I take those two mentioned along with pygeum. Now I also take a prescription medication along with them.

Great video with a lot of very useful information, I didn't know that lycopene was so important for this. Thanks to your videos I found out about Lycopene. Very helpful information, since nobody here in Germany has ever heard of its benefits regarding BHP. Unfortunately 500 mg of this supplement is nowhere to be found , the highest dose available is 40 mg which is a far cry from what would be beneficial. Even in the US I couldn‘t find a product online that comes even close to this dosage.😢
Thank you for your question. Lycopene at this dose has been studied but hard to find. We had many viewers reach out with the same difficulty as you so we decided to create our own high quality lycopene supplement (will be ready soon!). Please visit www.shopdaveclaytonmd.com Thanks for watching!
Surprised you did not mention Stinging Nettle . Stinging Nettle has also shown tobe excellent at blocking the formation of dihydrotestosterone, and also excellent at disolving the crystalline blockages in small capillaries caused by DHT. May be why Stinging Nettle can have really fast results in bringing relief to BPE sufferers. Also, from what I have read Stinging Nettle is much less stressful to the kidneys than saw palmetto has shown. Suggesting Zinc, Licopene, and Stinging Nettle for good prostate health. Root, and or combined freeze dried root and leaves supplement.
Thanks for this very helpful video. I've struggled with BPH issues for many years. I had surgery (TERP) several years ago and wish I hadn't. Frankly, it ultimately has not helped and has caused other problems. I do plan to get Lycopene and Beta Sitosterol supplements. However, I'm a bit frustrated to find the dosages typically available seem to be opposite of what the studies in the video describe. The studies are 60mg/day Beta Sitosterol, and 500mg 2x/day Lycopene. But nearly all of the Lycopene supplements I'm finding are ~50mg capsules, and the Beta Sitosterol are 500mg and higher. Oy.
Lol had a problem with getting up every few hours at night to pee. Started taking zinc every day after 60 days could sleep for 6, 7 hours before waking up to pee . 😂 its working for me 65year old man eh 👍
Thank you for this video. I have been going through some prostate issues myself with an elevated PSA and enlarged prostate. Additionally, thank you for speaking about testosterone as it relates to the prostate and then outside the prostate. I would love to hear more about that, as well as the difference with "free" testosterone. It sounds like you were saying that the supplements increase free testosterone and decrease testosterone in the prostate?
The potential negative effects from finasteride and similar drugs are becoming well known. I know people who have been severely and negatively impacted by these drugs and this leads to my question on Lycopene. I don't want a systemic affect on DHT but I am more than willing to try it if it is somehow localized in the prostate. So I ask, does Lycopene and Beta-sitosterol affect us SYSTEMICALLY or will it primarily have an effect on the prostate ONLY? DHT is important for many reasons so I am hoping that there is some mechanism of action that keeps it in the prostate and doesn't affect the whole body. This may be wishful thinking but I can't wait to hear back from you Doc :) Thoughts?
At age 68 I had BPH of 32 grams & a Urolift procedure. Now four years later the prostate grew to 84 grams and will have the TURP procedure done in a few days. If red meat causes BPH, why didn't I have BPH at age four or at a young age?
I have been on tamsulosin for about seven years, started with 0.4 mg ,then the doctor increase the dose to 8.4 mg.,and still having problem to urinate.Any recommendations will be appreciated.
To me it seems likely that if B-sisosterol inhibits binding of DHT to the receptor on the prostate, that it would also inhibit binding of DHT to the same receptors on other muscles. Please prove me wrong, I would like to try it but I do not want to systemically inhibit the binding of DHT to my muscles.
I appreciate your wisdom very much. I am in a more advanced suituation, so curious about what you'd suggest. Last April('24) I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer with PSA of 525. Went on Lutetium trial (done!) and two ADT's, Ubeqa and Orgovyx. PSA now .1. Oncologist may trial a hormonal holiday in 6 months. Diet is mostly vegetables and some grains and nuts now. Sardines, too. Huge amounts of exercise (cardio and weights) and little impact on sexual function. I'm 61. You have mentioned Zinc. I was advised not to take Zinc. Is your Zinc suggestion applicable to someone who is not M-static only, or would you still recommend for me? I've had no new lesions since April ('24) and CT and bone scans are very positive. I have taken lycopene mostly via tomato paste (sugar-free), but I'm concerned about its acid content. Is it better I shift to supplements instead? So my questions relate to use of Zinc and Lycopene (via tomato paste or supps?), and does Zinc conflict with ADT's? Or is it not useful after the horse has bolted? Thanks.
I took a combination of saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil (320mg and 1000mg) twice per day for 6 months. I also took, and continue to take a one-a-day minimum daily requirement multi vitamin which containes 25mg of zinc and 300mg of lycopene. None of this relieved BPH symptoms or reduced PSA numbers.
Thank you for this very informative, useful video. 👍👍👍 I sure wish you could be my primary care physician, Dr. Dave. When I meet with my doctor to discuss a health problem, he almost always has a prescription drug for me to take for the problem. He's aware of natural medicine when I propose natural treatments; he even advises me when I lead him down that road. Sometimes I get the feeling that he is told to follow a pharmaceutical formulary treatment method by the people who run the medical group. Do you have any advice on how to find a physician who specializes in a combination of traditional, natural, and lifestyle medicine? 🤔

Hello Doctor. Yesterday afternoon I found out I got moderate prostate enlargement. My understanding is that these 2 supplements, that you mentioned, don't shrink the prostate, they just improve symptoms; right? Do prostate-shrinking medication give permanent results? or to the results fade once medication intake is discontinued?
Question: Testosterone in aging men converts to DHT; DHT binds to prostate receptors and stimulates BPH growth; therefore, DHT is bad, and the goal is to 1) inhibit DHT production and 2) block the receptors it binds to. Young men in their twenties have higher testosterone/DHT than aging men in their 60s. Therefore, young men are candidates for BPH way before older men, right?
@drdaveclayton thank you for the informative video. I'm confused, you first say take 2 X 500mg lycopene (the study amount) and then say take 500mg for daily dosage. Also, on your lycopene it says lycopene 10% 500mg, what does that mean.
I suspect that his lycopene formula only has 50mg. (10% of 500mg) similar to some other offerings. So, I guess the prescribed dosage on the bottle won't get you too close to what was tested. Draw your own conclusions....

Thank you so much, very helpful! Is there maybe a mix-up with regards to dosing? Did you mean lycopene 60 mg daily and beta sitosterol 500 mg daily?
This is great advice.
Very good video. Very nicely explained and easily understood. Will try the advise .
All the best
Fantastic explanation of "how things work." Appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
awesome, let food be your medicine and medicine be your food
Absolutely!
@@drdaveclayton Thanks for responding
Look up Bulk Supplements for Lycopene powder form.
Very well explained 🎉 excellent work
Glad you liked it
Surprised you did not mention Stinging Nettle .
Root, and or combined freeze dried root and leaves supplement.
thank you so much for your help Dr .
Glad to help
Thanks doc powerful tips
Very helpful, thank you so much 👍

Thank you so much, great information, ❤
Oy.
I take pumpkin seed oil daily. It really helps but I want to add the lycopene

Thanks for sharing, I was diagnosed six months ago of prostrate enlargement. How can I get these supplements?
Hi DR Clayton,
I’m 56 and good health, but worry about my prostate , question
Coffe one time a day is bad ? Tks
Mr. Dave Clayton,MD Thanks for posting the information , to healty supplements prostate.god bless America. from EU.
You are very welcome
Lol had a problem with getting up every few hours at night to pee. Started taking zinc every day after 60 days could sleep for 6, 7 hours before waking up to pee . 😂 its working for me 65year old man eh 👍
If I don't take lycopene supplements, how much watermelon or tomato juice do I need per day? Thank you and thanks so much for your advice!!
Great question! I cover that in an earlier video - th-cam.com/video/uCKdvTA8i_o/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
Great info!😊
Glad it was helpful!
At age 68 I had BPH of 32 grams & a Urolift procedure. Now four years later the prostate grew to 84 grams and will have the TURP procedure done in a few days. If red meat causes BPH, why didn't I have BPH at age four or at a young age?
Awesome video, thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
I have been on tamsulosin for about seven years, started with 0.4 mg ,then the doctor increase the dose to 8.4 mg.,and still having problem to urinate.Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Thank you 🙏🏼
To me it seems likely that if B-sisosterol inhibits binding of DHT to the receptor on the prostate, that it would also inhibit binding of DHT to the same receptors on other muscles. Please prove me wrong, I would like to try it but I do not want to systemically inhibit the binding of DHT to my muscles.
Thanks for very helpful advice!
Glad it was helpful!
Might vit K help with restoring transport of Zn into prostate? By reversing any calcification / sclerosis?
Would it help to take quercetin which helps the body absorb more zinc into the cells?
Appreciate the kind words. I like doctors who bill themselves out as Integrative Medicine. They generally have the right approach. Thanks for watching 👍
@@drdaveclayton Very good, I'll be moving soon and need to find a new doctor. I'll look for an integrative medicine doctor during my search. By the way, I ordered both the potassium and lycopene supplements from your site. Look forward to receiving them soon. Thanks again! 😊
An excellent presentation and slides particularly from the cell biological aspect. I think the problem here is the fact that there are so many different companies producing these supplements so it would be an immense help to post recommended products for all. Besides one cannot be aware of the purity of many products. Posting your recommended links would also standardise results. Many thanks, Dr R.

TY so much.
Very grateful for the outstanding information you provide.
Very grateful.
🙌💯
Any benefits from pumpkin seed oil .
Great information. Does the prostrate health product in your link has lycopene along with saw palmetto? If not is it ok to take both supplements for bph?
I will try the Lycopene and B-Sitosterol and let you know in 4-6 mos. Thanks for the info.
Sounds good!
It worked great for me. Noticed a change within days
~ Saw palmetto ( standardized ) keeps me out of surgery. 9 years 👍
If I may have permission to ask, _do you also take lycopene with saw palmetto_ ?
Did it affect your libido or cause ED ?
@@hondapilot ~ No.
@@merccadoosis8847 ~ Not yet ...
@merccadoosis8847 ~ I just started taking lycopine supplement - 20mg.
Do any of these supplements inhibit muscle growth?
Are you saying NOT to take finesteride but can I take both
Do you think there is a possibility that you have the dosage listed in reverse as I find Lycopene in small amounts and sitosterol in large amounts
Great info 48% is more than 2x 23% results of finesteride😅
So what company is the most reliable for saw palmetto and lycopene and what is the correct dosage? Is there a chart some where?
I can't take saw palmetto because of an irregular heartbeat so would Lycopene help by itself I should I go the Finasteride route?
Great video. My psa has been .80 for 15 yrs but still have enlarged prostate. I’ve taken these along w good diet/exercise. Will try at doses recommended to see if it helps. Thanks for the insights!
Thank you for watching!
Could the saw palmetto cause post finasteride like syndrome?
Hello Doc 👍 22mg Zink is too much? Shall I cut it in two? Thanks for the answer 🙏
To what degree, IDK,... but increased free Testosterone by the double whammy sounds beneficial towards muscle mass development 💪 for those of us who do strength training? I believe Boron supplementation also reduces SHBG activity to also free up more Testosterone.
Thank you; I am taking both (Saw Palmetto - Lycopene) for BPH. PSA 3.6 to 6.8 up and down over 2 years, with labs every 6 months. Age 69
Awesome. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much amazing advice, what kind of saw palmetto and mgs. to buy and also licopene which type and mgs. And how many times a day, BPH is high on my behalf can you please help me with this situation of mine. Thank you and blessings always
@@jorgepadilla1062 I currently take Vitamin Shoppe Saw Palmetto which are 160MG per soft jell. I take 3 of those per day, 1 each morning, noon, and evening. Take Gangherb Lycopene/Reishi 1 capsule per day. Lastly I take Pygeum 400 MG from Swanson. 2 capsules daily, 1 morning and 1 evening. Hope this helps you. 🤠
Thanks for watching and for the question. I discuss doses toward the end of the video and left links in the description. Hope this helps! Good luck!
Is lycophene available over the counter,or you have to get fromm food source?
Which dose max daily lycopene please ?
information seem helpful i just ordered your prostate bundle for BPH hope its helps with my prostate problem do you have any more reviews from other people that tried it and helped?
Hello Doctor.
Yesterday afternoon I found out I got moderate prostate enlargement. My understanding is that these 2 supplements, that you mentioned, don't shrink the prostate, they just improve symptoms; right?
Do prostate-shrinking medication give permanent results? or to the results fade once medication intake is discontinued?
Thank you very much Sir
Hi, Doc. How about combining Lycopene and Saw Palmetto with Finasteride for a triple effect would you say?
Hola,,,, whats your thoughts on stinging nettle root....if itz any good , what varieties are best......cassidy
The root is best for the prostate, the leaves purify the blood, with multiple benefits!!
I started getting improvement IMMEDIATELY upon taking 3-6 mgs of BORON.
Thank you
You're welcome
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support. It truly is appreciate !!!
Thank you very much David. Great advice Sir.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
wow....b4 youtube we had to pay doctors for this information...damn
Heard that tomate paste is better than lycopine in supplement
Good point! I always go for food first as well. Nature knows best :)
Why not take a zinc ionophore like quercetin to improve absorption?
@drdaveclayton thank you for the informative video. I'm confused, you first say take 2 X 500mg lycopene (the study amount) and then say take 500mg for daily dosage. Also, on your lycopene it says lycopene 10% 500mg, what does that mean.
I suspect that his lycopene formula only has 50mg. (10% of 500mg) similar to some other offerings. So, I guess the prescribed dosage on the bottle won't get you too close to what was tested. Draw your own conclusions....
Thanks for your videos, sad that my Dr. Does not know or isn't paid to share that info with patients, sadly all they do is prescribe Medication.
How do one get lycopene, I have been on saw palmetto and zinc with no success. Thanks
I appreciate the kind words! I left some links in the description for lycopene. Hope this helps, good luck!
