Thank you for your advice. I changed my diet to reach recommended potassium levels through food. It has not only lowered my BP but given better overall health, more energy & flexibility of movement. I'm very grateful. God bless you in your further research.

This is one of the videos I watched while I was trying to fix my hypertension about a month ago. I'd just been to the dentist, and she wasn't sure she wanted to go ahead with the appointment because my BP was 167/90. I was always hypertensive when I checked, even though I'd dropped my sodium way down. I took your advice and changed my sodium/potassium ratio. A glass of low sodium vegetable juice morning and night, 2 or 3 bananas a day, and a few other high potassium foods, and I'm at about 4000mg. My blood pressure dropped 30 points literally overnight, and has continued to drop. Most mornings I'm seeing BPs of 102-110 over 64-70. I can't believe it was that easy, and I'm shocked that my doctor was pressuring me so hard to take BP meds without looking at something as simple as my potassium intake. Thank you so much.
Wow, impressive and encouraging results, thank for sharing, am exactly where you were last month and more, but giving this Potassium supplement a shot right away and hope for the best results too...
A glass of low sodium vegetable juice is almost 1000mg of potassium - one in the morning, and one at night gets you halfway there. I make smoothies to get me through to lunch as well, and I've been experimenting with which high potassium foods work. As well as bananas, I've recently tried adding sweet potatoes (which are very high in potassium), and they taste great in a smoothie with a little ginger. Adding (or just drinking) orange juice bumps it up, too. I work with dialysis patients, and to put it in perspective, they struggle to avoid high potassium foods because they're usually the ones that taste good.
Sooooo - why don't doctors prescribe Potassium instead of Metoprolol, Carvedilol, etc to their patience? It's because they are required to take better care of the health of the Pharma industry than their patients.
Probably! or they are just Not educated at all in regards to Resolving issues holistically..They are boxed in in their thinking and approach, which is to rely upon pharma drugs to "Manage" conditions vs getting to the root of the issue and seeking a resolution...My gf has malignant high BP and when discussing with doctors that she has used carditone to naturally lower it, they were clueless as to what it was and were even averse to her using this Natural supplement available over the counter...Rather the doctor said she trusted the big pharma meds More!.. Shocking that someone would say this!...I said look at all the side effects including Death that come with the drugs You prefer to use.
@@skip741x3 A good majority of Dr.'s are in bed with Big Pharma, just look what happened to those who didn't want to comply with the Covid 19 Plandemic, they were harassed of losing their jobs and licenses.
Sorry guys. Im a Naturopath but RN. Go see your Dr and eat a preponderance of fresh fruit and vegetables. Risking your life with... What the Hell. Go ahead with quack medicine
I’ve had the same experience with a change of diet, by eliminating processed and packaged foods, going solely to home-prepared natural foods. I was able to completely stop my prescription for atenolol 25 mg and blood pressure is now within the normal range of under 120/80, and many times as low as 100/68. This dietary change was supplemented with a reduction in body fat percentage by walking an average of 11,000+ steps per day over the past 4 months. The medical profession is not trained to make people healthy, but to serve Big Pharma by prescribing drugs to alleviate conditions caused by Big Agriculture and the US government’s adoption of a flawed Standard American Diet(SAD) also designed to support Big Pharma and Big Agriculture, both which are supplied by Big Oil and Big Chemical industries. We have to take responsibility for our own health by educating ourselves. Your video is a useful resource.
Yes. Your scathing indictment of the Health [Wealth] System and its diabolical interdependence on BigPharma & co. is SPOT ON. The sooner people realise that they're nothing more than life-long customers, the sooner they can start to take an active role in understanding and improving their own health OUTSIDE of said system.
It is nice you could go down to 120. Do you have diabetes? I have and I think somewhere along the line it gets in the way of my blood pressure health. For the most part, I do not eat packaged/processed foods other than paleo cookies. My diabetes has gone down from 14.5 A1C to 7.2. My health plan denied my request for a CAC test (calcium test). I will still want to know if my arteries are clogged then I will understand why, despite eating healthier (no rice, pasta, potatoes, ice cream, coke, cakes) my BP is still high. Any ideas?
@@silosvince. Don't know your age but you did mention you have diabetes. Your diet doesn't sound too bad. It's not just what you are eating, but you need to also have regular exercise even if it's moderate. And also very very important to have a relaxed calm mind. The stressed mind alone is enough to have high BP. Also very very important to do breathing exercises. Look up videos of breathing exercises to lower BP. You can do it 3/4 times a day, and it's usually around 5/6 minutes. All the best!👍🌟💯💚
@@littlehummingbird1015 thank you kindly. Someone reached out on this same thread. I made a small change. I started using "No-Salt" on my eggs in the morning and I eat 2 bananas a day and my Blood pressure has returned into the normal range.
Bananas are suppose to help you sleep. Well I had trouble falling asleep last night, and ate a banana. I did fall asleep after that... BUT, I just took my BP as I wanted to see if that banana helped with my BP readings. Wow, it was 124/72. I do have hypertension and lately its been a struggle to get my BP readings down. My doctor has me on two different BP medications now, and still my BP has been 155/99. Although with the banana I had it was brought right down. Think I will keep a log for a good week, and see how that banana does. Bananas are high in potessium for those that don't know. . I'm very happy with the 124/72. Thank you Dr. Clayton,
All they want to do is prescribe meds that have More side effects than the original problem. Which is only a Band-Aid, Get to the root of the problem. What is causing your problems? Maybe they get kickbacks from The prescriptions they prescribe? I wouldn't doubt it scratching each other's backs. Pharmaceutical industry is Sinfully Abusing us to line their pockets.
Losartan potassium is a drug with potential side effects such as dizziness and possible kidney damage. Nothing should replace the natural form of potassium such as potassium rich foods without the side effects. Also, Losartan potassium (Cozaar) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). I am going to increase my potassium in my diet first. This is just my opinion.
This is illuminating, especially since many popular blood pressure medications specifically tell you to LIMIT POTASSIUM intake because of risk to kidneys while taking these meds. So, in essence, these meds are insuring that you'll never get off of them!!!
All blood pressure medicines contain potassium. If you get too much potassium, you could heart your heart. My doctor tests my potassium regularly because I exercise as well. If you want more potassium without taking any pills get an electrolyte like LMNT which contains potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium. If I take extra potassium, my heart starts pounding-the same if I don’t get enough potassium. Be careful with how much you take. Also, read clinical trials yourself.
Like the "cardiologist told me 18 years ago "You will be on these 5 pills for the rest of your life" and he quickly walked out the door. I pulled my records and went to a different cardiologist. I am on one of these pills but have started cutting it in half after I quit eating sugar.
I’m an overweight 60 y/o female. I’ve found fermented beet root capsules (2-500mg caps in the AM) helped me lower my BP to a very satisfactory level-117/78 at my most recent checkup. Previously my BP hovered around 135/85. Also gives me a good energy boost due to the nitric oxide in beets. I’m working on getting the weight off, but in the meantime I’d like to avoid BP meds if possible.
@@mphsb Hibiscus tea and beetroot, the best and quickest way to lower your bp. I usually see the results within hours. You have to use them regularly though.
If you have high blood press and CKD (chronic kidney disease), and your potassium is already high ( which often go together), then you should consult with your physician for lab work and urinalysis before adding potassium.
Nat and Berberine. With these I avoided all the withdrawals. Plus I take D3, magnesium,B12, along with Key Nutrients electrolytes. I follow a Proper Human diet😊 in one year I lost 105lbs. From 285 to 180😊
It all comes down to diet and exercise. At the end of the day no one should be eating anything processed period, it's simply an addiction hard to break for most in this age.
About 20 years ago I started having issues with HBP at 50 years old. My doctor put me on a medication to lower my blood pressure. I was dizzy every time I tried to stand up. Stopped taking the medication, did some research and found that potassium was the key to controlling HBP along with adequate exercise. I went from 160/90 to 110/72 without medication. At 70 I do take medication now to lower my BP just because I am not as active as when I was 50. Exercise and a 4 to 1 ratio of K to NA is the key to normal BP.
Thank You so much for the information and I am on BP Meds and I want to lower it ASAP and I am adding more bananas and Walking . Please keep informing People and We appreciate Doctors like You. God Bless You 🙏
Good info. I take magnesium GLYCINATE and it has helped my nerves and gotten my b/p under control. But I do still take one b/p med daily, and walking, eating well, trying to lose weight to lower or eliminate the RX.
I know it's silly but I just stopped taking mine all of the time. I felt it wasn't good for my mental health. I would stress over it. I just let the doctor take it, but I don't see any change and it's always high. No desire to keep taking pills. Want to be my own advocate. I'm listening.
Today I just went to the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim California and I went around to each booth at this massive massive event and I was trying to teach the people Manning each booth the extreme importance of getting enough potassium ... I was teaching them to pass on to the executives the higher-ups the importance of putting higher amounts of potassium in foods and supplements because our nation are world overall we're not getting enough potassium and it's affecting physical pains , heart health and mental health...... I would normally never tell anybody to follow what a medical doctor says because they are not trained in natural ways I don't know much about this particular doctor but I'm very happy that he's talking about this because more people need to know this millions and millions of more people need to see this type of video 👋🏼☘️😉
Hi Leo! I was at Expo West as well - probably doing the same thing as you! We found some great little companies with innovative, natural high-potassium foods. We'll highlight them in the next few weeks and months. Appreciate the props and thanks for watching. Dr. Dave
I'm a 68 yr old male and I would classify my fitness as semi-ok. I'm not overweight but I get minimal exercise. I started taking potassium about 1 month ago for reasons unrelated to blood pressure which was about 135/85 and which I considered normal for my age. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that my BP is routinely around 100/68. I have been really scratching my head trying to determine the sudden drop in BP. Now after stumbling upon this video I know the answer. Potassium is one of the very few supplements that I've tried that actually has an undeniably noticeable effect and I'm probably taking only 2000mg/day since I often forget to take it. Unbelievable.
I get the potassium level in my blood checked regularly; that is to say, I take steps to verify that something is a problem, before I accept a solution from a stranger who's not my family doctor. The person presenting this video doesn't know you or I, and they all tend to present a one-size-fits-all approach. In the case of this video, I feel that the people who eat a lot of junk food would see the most benefit from the advice.
@tinacampbell1871 you get a potassium chloride prescription from your doctor after having blood tests showing your potassium level is low or low normal. Also, magnesium helps potassium get into the cells...at the cellular level. One needs a good primary care person to work with.
@@StephRich888 how do you take potassium? Pills , food or powder? Please tell me. I’m want to help my mom so she can stop taking her blood pressure medicine. Thx
I'm a 71 year old Man and I have had slightly high blood pressure starting around 63. I'm extremely active, exercise daily with weights and don't eat Junk food. A slight change of diet was all I needed to get my BP back to a normal range and keeping certain foods in my dietary rotation has allowed me to consistently stay at a normal range. Diet is everything, but Sadly Main stream Medical doesn't include Nutrition as a tool for treatment. It astounds me that even today, foods and proper eating are still not part of a Medical Education! Pills pills pills! PS I'm one of the fastest 71 year old runners you will ever see. I still Ride a Dirt Bike, Road Bike, Hike and Kayak, and I have no plans for slowing down! 😎
Interesting enough when we consider pills 💊 medication we could say this : for the body anything entering in the mouth has to be processed according to the laws of biochemistry and physiology .. which are part of nutrition sciences : so medication or foods should be considered at the same level of impact !!!! therefore overlooking foods is just no sense !!
Why isn't there better education on nutrition and other healthy lifestyle choices? The prescription drug industry is a multi-billion dollar business; that's why. 😲

Older people taking potassium supplements can overdose on it. My father passed away from hyperkalemia in 2006. He was taking diuretics and potassium per the doctor's prescription after having a lung removed. It was to reduce the risk of water build-up around his heart caused by the surgery. What the doctor did not take into account was that he had a history of too much potassium in his blood. So, after a few days, he began to show symptoms of hyperkalemia. The symptoms are very similar to hypokalemia with one major difference; numbness and paralysis in his feet and lower legs. Unfortunately, he and I did not know much about it, so when he told me his symptoms, I told him he needs to see the doctor about it. But had self-diagnosed himself as experiencing hypokalemia, so he stopped taking the diuretics and continued the potassium. Within 3 days, his heart began to flutter. He called 911 but his heart stopped while on the phone. So, please add this warning to your video describing how to avoid overdosing on potassium, especially for older people.
I am confused. It seems that stopping the diuretics (so he would be peeing less) caused the issue. Did stopping them caused a change in the level of K in his system to the down side because it would increased the fluid levels in his body and diluted (reduced) the K level. Or, because he was peeing less, it caused his K levels to increase. Can you clarify this for me.
@@Pikrodafni I'm currently on 40mg of lisinopril and just ordered potassium supplements however I want to run it by my cardiologist tomorrow. Thank you for this advice. I am 74 and always had a BP of 120/70 until 2 years ago when it went regularly to 135/80, which my GP said is okay for my age. 6 months ago I moved into a Retirement Centre where we get 1 meal at lunch 5 days a week. The variety of vegetables is not good and Meat and starch make out most of the meals in a week. So yesterday I had my BP checked for the first time in the 6 months and it was 153/77!!! I am upset and I believe it is the poor diet. I have been preparing my own, mainly veggie meals over weekends. I will add potassium rich foods. I don't want to take meds. I am on no chronic meds. So I am grateful fot this advice, thank you.

Dave, If you are promoting a potassium supplement you should make a disclosure. BTW, I am very impressed that you provide information on the original research and the meta analysis. Can you publish a paper/blind study on your supplement? I will try your product. Thanks
The problem with just adding potassium is the effect of potassium is based on the ratio of sodium to potassium. You want a ratio in the 1:3-4 range. It is very easy if you eat out and/or eat processed/packaged foods to consume massive quantities of sodium to the point you can't take in enough potassium to make a difference... so watching your sodium is also really important if you want the potassium to really work on your blood pressure. Fun fact: You will also lose weight as the amount of water weight your body holds onto depends on the amount of salt you take in. And consuming potassium in the 1:2+ ratio of sodium:potassium causes your body to push out sodium from your system and helps you drop water weight.
Hello from the UK. No doctor or the health service has ever mentioned potassium to me and I've been on blood pressure meds for almost 18 years. I'm vegan too but thanks to you just realised that I need to rethink some food choices on that diet, despite thinking that being vegan would help. It has helped and I've been able to ditch one medication but not the other yet. Many thanks for the video, very informative.
Hello from the US, same here, all my PCP does is look at data then put me on a new prescription med. I had enough and became my own doctor through Dr. Berg and a few other internet doctors. Well, it's been 2 years and one month and I'm 52 pounds lighter, no longer have high blood pressure, high triglycerides, fatty liver disease and insulin resistance. I'm off all 7 prescriptions. On my 6 month physical I took a tongue lashing from my PCP for not taking my meds. I asked him why I need my triglyceride meds when my level was 43 (it was over 300) I asked him why take both of my blood pressure meds when my blood pressure was 125/68? They are just pill pushers. I did all of this by low carb, no sugar and exercise.
@@markwhite6782 As a vegan do you eat alot of Carps ? or stachy foods. Just recently stumbled on your videos and I'm glad I did. You are the first doctor that I have ever heard say to take potassium for high blood pressure. I discovered this a few years and it taking potassium has dramatically reduced my blood pressure. I tried different medications for years and nothing worked and then I started looking into supplements instead and found out how basically everyone is potassium deficient and started taking it and it works for me. I also take magnesium as well which seems to increase the effect of lowering my blood pressure. I like your videos and no-nonsense scientific approach and plan to watch and like more of them. Keep up the good work.
That is phenomenal. I hope you are still keeping up with the diet as far as eating healthy avoiding those process foods and whatever else you did to put you in such good health. Keep it up from Hawaii. Congratulations. Keep going.

I truly love this video. I have been fighting HBP for years now, and one time when I had to visit the ER for Afib, which I believe was caused by untreated apnea, which I had for years, after open abdominal gall bladder surgery. The apnea was never diagnosed because doctors didn't know about it in th e 70's...they called it nerves. LOL When I was in the ER on that occasion, my Potassium was low, and I was given a huge pill. Since that time, I have been terrified to take my blood pressure, and terrified that I would be too low or too high in Potassium. I love the idea of NATURAL diet to reach the goal, but how do we know unless we keep the dreaded blood pressure cuff around a leg? LOL I LOVE tuna, and sardines, and chicken, Turkey, salads, nuts, mostly walnuts, pistachios, and pumpkin seeds, occasionally Macadamias. I will check out your sodium vedeo, and save this one, and talk to my Cardiologist, and PN. I will also make a chart of the foods I will actually eat for my nutrition. My mom died from Nephritis, and I am a fanatic about kidney function. My numbers were off, and I spoke to a friend's son, who is a geriatric pharmacist. He looked at my physical results and pinned my issue down EN POINTE...He said I held my urine...CORRECT, and I didn't drink enough water ...CORRECT! SO...I began a regimen and it worked. But stress is a factor I fight daily, as my husband has just recovered from bowel cancer surgery, around six months ago, and he now has dementia, so I am doing the bills, and other responsibilities, plus my precious dog had to be put down because of kidney failure...caused by a puppy mill. What is the process of getting off the meds? To me that is a bit intimidating. But, DEFINITELY DOABLE, because it is what I desire most. At 78 years old...I know by now what I DON'T want, and medications are IT! Thank you for such a valuable source of knowledge.
Is your husband taking statins to reduce cholesterol? Have him stop for 10 days. Long term use of statins can cause memory loss and dementia. I took Crestor for 20 years, began to experience memory loss, stopped medicine and within a month my memory was good. I am in my 83rd year.

Salt substitute is cheap and sold alongside Morton's salt in any grocery store, and it has the same easy to measure value, 1/4 tsp = 500 mg. Read the label on these salt substitutes.....it's potassium. Whenever I stray and eat a salty meal and know I didn't eat enough potassium rich foods that day, I add 1/4 or 1/2 tsp of the potassium salt to a few ounces of water, stir and gulp down, not tasty but easy to swallow. Or could sprinkle over food.
1. I eat a lot of green & gruciferous vegetables, fruits, and nuts per day. 2. Do YOGA & breathing exercises to improve my nitric oxyde in the body . 3. Take 300 mg of magnesim daily. 4. Boosting my sodium intake with lemon drink and Celtic salt drink first thing in the morning to improve my hydration. 5. Drink beetroot juice an hour before bedtime. My BP has dropped from 169/ 105 down to 128/ 70 now. I ask my dr. If I can stop her prescribed drugs. She said " NO " but agreed to lower them down to 5mgAmdolipin and 5mg crestor.. well Iam happy for now.😊
Thanks for the info. Drinking my beets and lemons separately in my Vitamix. I just ordered Celtic salt, I will add it into my lemon smoothie. Walking, weight training and stretching.
Thanks for the video. For me, a huge dietary overhaul is not optimal, but instead, to 'sway' things, taking the helpful info & applying it my own way. To increase potassium, I'm focusing on high potassium foods- like a simple potato for a snack, (rather than potato chips, which I've mostly avoided for years, but crave). A microwaved potato with a sprinkle of lite salt- a potassium- sodium blend, gives almost 1000 mg of potassium, & so much energy, is so easy to make, & an awesome snack. Spinach, avocados, beets + beet greens, & watermelon. I have concern to get rid of dairy, because recommendation food pendulums seem to swing back/ forth. Don't eat eggs/ eggs are great is one example. The same with butter, etc. They are now finding the vit k2 appears to serve a vital role in avoiding calcium sticking to blood vessel walls, & high fat dairy is one main source to obtain it (e.g. yellow colored cheese like cheddar, which I've also always eaten/ love). So who knows. It's enough to make your head spin. But I appreciate the info/ help.
I eat dandelion leaves from my garden( high in potassium ) as often as possible. I’ve also seeded Arugula aka Rocket in my lawn, and no I’ve never feed my lawn with lawn feed.
My wife and I are changed to the carnivore way of eating. So far we have both lost between 25 to 30 lbs. Also my blood pressure dropped significantly to 145/88 but has stopped going down any further. Now that I have watched this, potassium is my next thing that I will add to my daily redgiment. Thank-you Dr Clayton. I can't wait to see what will happen by adding this to my diet.
My blood pressure has been in the high normal range. I have been taking Nitric Oxide and Magnesium which has been helpful, but I will absolutely increase the potassium. I initially stumbled upon one of your videos related to cholesterol ratios. I appreciate the great information.

I am not overweight. I'm 58 years old. My doctor told me to get a blood pressure monitor. I did and tried it today. it was 174 over 111. I eat super healthy but take a ton of ibuprofen and eat a ton of salt and drink coffee all day. Very concerning. Definitely need to make some changes. My Dad had a heart attack at 55 and then another that killed him at 77 so I can't really mess around with this. I do stress a lot about money so that's probably where my hypertension is coming from. Weird I know and I don't know if there was a corrilation between high blood pressure and my tender scalp. Maybe it was a sign i could possibly be about to have a stroke? I have no idea. All i know is that it went away as soon as my blood pressure went down from 170/110 down to normal levels it went away.

I went to 2 doctors in the last few years and both right away prescribed high blood pressure medications. Dr. Is very right advising first to try dietary changes for normalizing our high BP instead of taking medicine many practitioners hurry to prescribe first. In my 76-yr old case when my internal medicine PCP measured higher BP two years ago, first thing he did is to prescribe 2.5mg amlodipine daily, than increased the dosage to 5mg daily, taken as 2.5mg in the morning and 2.5mg in the evening. Sure my BP dropped to 135/76-78 (as 2nd or 3d measurement measuring it at home using Whitings digital BP monitor). I also was prescribed the traditional for senior age - statin for lowering LDC (bad cholesterol). He and the majority of other PCPs are doing that - prescribing medicine instead of dietary changes advised in this physician video rightfully so?

Sodium substitutes containing potassium can be found on a grocery store shelf. The "No Salt" product is primarily potassium chloride. But most doctors probably recommend increasing your potassium level by consuming foods that contain larger amounts of it. Some diuretics are "potassium sparing", which can make it more dangerous to attempt to increase your potassium level.
So many people on low carb diets these days and with that type of diet it's easy to end up with serious potassium deficiency. One way to fix that is something like avocado which is low carb but also a good source of potassium.
Yes. Parsley is a depurative. It has a detoxifying effect by eliminating heavy metals from the body. Use organic. It’s contradicted for pregnant women.

How do you get to 4000 through food? 3 bananas have 600 potassium where does the other 3400 come from? Most foods only have around 300!
How can I know 4000mg of potassium, how this can I get from. Is it supplement. And what it is juice potassium.

Where do you get a 2000mg supplement?
@@tinacampbell1871 Dont you just hate it when people say and dont tell where! Its crap only from a doctor....
@tinacampbell1871 you get a potassium chloride prescription from your doctor after having blood tests showing your potassium level is low or low normal. Also, magnesium helps potassium get into the cells...at the cellular level. One needs a good primary care person to work with.

That's awesome!
Can you please share what you changed in your diet so others can learn and get and idea of what to do! Thankyou so much in advance 🤗

Did you reduce your pressure?
Will you explain to me how do vegetarians and vegans avoid hyperkalemia? Veg and fruit are full of potassium.
Dried Apricots are the easiest food based way to increase potassium
Thank you.
I’ve certainly heard of it. Now that it’s crossed my path again I’m going to look into this more seriously.
So sorry they didn't tell you.

How are you doing? Did anything help? Have you found out anymore information? Hope you are doing better 🙏

I know that works but I haven't seen it in any grocery stores in a long time.

Searches online say the opposite - that the chloride based potassium lowers BP, so this is a confusing post.....
Eat bananas, they contain potassium.
Hibiscus tea and Hawthorne Berry eating celery works well with me
Better to let the hibiscus tea to become cold
@@Saud_alzarouni i found its better cold also and add a bit of pomegranite juice! really good!
Thank you for encourage us to use vegetables to reduce blood pressure.
I'm going to be 70 this year and I have had high blood pressure for over half of my life and I'm tired of taking the medication so I'm definitely going to start eating more foods with potassium thank you for your advice I'll check back after a couple months to let you know how everything is going
Yes, please do let me know how it goes. I appreciate your support and your comment.
Thanks Doc. I've been battling HBP for years with little help from the " professionals ". I did much research and finally chanced upon potassium. After taking an appropriate amount, my systolic... has dropped 32 points when complimenting with vitamin C and garlic.
I started eating 2 pieces of fresh garlic with my super every night and it dropped my blood pressure by from 143 to 132 in 3 weeks.
Thats great for everything too but doesn't it make you smell like garlic the next day?
Who cares!@@animaladvocate8938
I like how people help each other here. One important thing to know is how hbp damages the endothelial cells and how to prevent or reverse it.
that's what my doctor said, it will worn out if people did not take medications or didnt change the lifestyle :( I dont think I eat too much salt or anything but genetics and stress factor is playing big role. I've take potassium, magnesium, low BP supplement, nothing helps at all. I guess, we also need to do lab test and see what is urinal and blood results. But if people have stage 1, all supplements may helps, the high numbers are more likely need meds because everybody would've have different results of bloodwork
@@sophie_4240me iam suffering from low BP and its really killinģ me slowly. Do you have an idea because i have tried everything. I ear alot of salts and take medicines too but its not helping me. 90/60
bloodwork numbers don't tell the whole story....look at magnesium...only 1 percent of body's magnesium is in the blood...@@sophie_4240
@@sophie_4240 have you tried taking beet juice? I believe it helps. And eat bananas. Nu salt..
Avoid table salt
Where does magnesium fall into the equation, is it required for digestion or uptake of potassium ? Thanks for putting this out there, good job!
Yes, magnesium controls the absorption of potassium as well as many other things.
Ocean water contains magnesium chloride. Magnesium is best absorbed by the skin. magnesium chloride flakes are worth a look rather than the tablet form.
I went to 2 doctors in the last few years and both right away prescribed high blood pressure medications. I am not against it of needed but i asked them what was causing it and neither could answer my question. One asked if anyone in my family had high bp and after finding out that my dad did, he said it was most likely genetic. I asked if we can do a genetic test to see if and which gene is responsible for it but he declined. Needless to say i am not seeing him anymore. Unfortunately most dr here in US are taught to treat symptoms and not trying to fond and treat the root cause of it. It is no secret that obesity, stress and lack of exercise are huge contributing factors. Why not ask about the lifestyle and suggest some changes instead of medicating their patients!? I am going to see my new dr. In few weeks. Wish me luck... and her.
Never tell your dotcor your family member have any form of hilness they always say its genetic and thats not true and give you a presciption i have been there .2015 i had to change my doctor because all she wanted to do is give me medicine I was so tired of her telling me i had to take blood pussure pill ,i went to another doctor who gave me a clean bill of health I am 62 years young never took meadition and i am feeling fine let your food be your medicine
I take 2 meds for high blood pressure and would LOVE to get healthy enough to stop taking them. Thank you for your informative video which I plan to start implementing.
@christine if you fast for 5 days your BP will normalise .
@@BigBoaby-sg1yoyou can’t just fast for 5 days. It’s dangerous and don’t tell people to do that.
@@lapislazuli7876 no it isn’t , and perhaps you should stop posting nonsense, of course which you no nothing about.
@@lapislazuli7876 this vid is about BP and not Blood Sugar. Water fasting will work as long as suitable electrolytes are consumed. Nowadays a five day fast is not considered a particularly long fast , if beyond 5 days, then extra precautions must be taken ,such as monitoring sugars , pressure and no gym work .
Nay ! I am not a doctor and neither are you . But what I recommended is correct . Those with enough finances can to fasting centers which monitor you several times per day.
@@lapislazuli7876
If Christine wants to fast then I'm sure she will inquire about it with a professional. Stop treating people on TH-cam like little kids. There's nothing wrong with someone's opinion shared in sincerity.
You need magnesium to absorb potassium if deficient.
Thanks for sharing. I've asked my Dr about what I need to do about getting off my High Blood Pressure medicine. I am on it for life.
Almost every DR will push the meds everytime. My Cardioligist told me exercise would not help my high blood pressure, I wish I could of seen the look on my face because I thought it was the stupudest thing a DR has ever told me.
They’re programmed/taught only limited things within an echo chamber profiting big pharma. Many mean well and just don’t know any better, sadly. Never let your doctor curse you with such limiting proclamations. Keep on researching for yourself in search of fuller truth. Have to be smart and cautious along the way, but also don’t be afraid to trust what your inner knowing may be trying to let you know.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
01:41 *💡 Potassium plays a crucial role in maintaining health, including blood pressure regulation, and its deficiency is widespread.*
03:33 *⚖️ Sodium and potassium balance is essential for cellular function, with the body needing equal amounts of both electrolytes.*
04:57 *🍽️ The US RDA for potassium is around 4000 to 4500 milligrams per day, but the average intake in the US is only about 2000 milligrams daily.*
06:30 *📊 Increasing potassium intake can lead to a significant reduction in blood pressure, with studies showing reductions ranging from 5 to 14 points.*
07:54 *🌱 Potassium supplementation or dietary adjustments to increase potassium intake can potentially be more effective in lowering blood pressure than medications.*
11:51 *🍎 Focusing on potassium-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, meats, and fish can easily boost potassium intake, offering substantial health benefits.*

Thank you for this informative video. Taking hbp tablets from my thirties and now I am 53, had a stroke when I was 48 but recovered well. Having a high stressful job and taking care of two kids alone with no care for my health resulted in this. Just bought Potassium citrate supplement after having health issues due to premenopausal symptoms after going through a number of TH-cam videos. Yours was an eye opener. Thanks again
Thanks, Doctor . I am a 66 years old man now face with high blood pressure and this brings a little comfort in knowing a more healthy diet of (lower) sodium and (increase) potassium would help with greatly.I do appreciate thanks with continue blessings.
Don't lower salt too much - you need it.
Potassium should be 4x the amount of sodium.
@@WollongongSkyWatch I know!
@@Pikrodafni i agree with you. The key imo is to balance the sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium levels. Diets higher in sugars and processed carbs usually have lower levels of magnesium and potassium in the cells.I supplement with magnesium and potassium daily and has done wonders for me.
I quit coffee cold turkey a month ago. Acid reflux gone in 3 days. BP 10 average drop in in a week.
You must have been taking litres of coffee daily. I did quit cond turkey as well, three months ago, but my BP only dropped 40mm in two months.
Hi. I found several differnt forms pottasium supplemets. Which type of potassium is best for lowering blood pressure?
Citrate, not chloride
Potassium in supplements comes in many different forms-a common form is potassium chloride, but other forms used in supplements are potassium citrate, potassium phosphate, potassium aspartate, potassium bicarbonate, and potassium gluconate. Research has not shown that any form of potassium is better than the others
Thanks much doctor Clayton. I'll definitely be starting this diet change ASAP. I was actually just prescribed metoprolol 25mg Thursday 02/01/2024
By Saturday night my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. Unfortunately a blizzard was also hitting at the same time. So I was not in a good situation at all. I got my blood pressure down, but man that was kind scary. I'm only 58 and don't want to go out like that. I'm in Wyoming by the way, I'm having a pretty hard time finding a good doctor, in the Lowest populated state in America.
Thanks again
Sodium substitutes containing potassium can be found on a grocery store shelf. The "No Salt" product is primarily potassium chloride. But most doctors probably recommend increasing your potassium level by consuming foods that contain larger amounts of it.
Some diuretics are "potassium sparing", which can make it more dangerous to attempt to increase your potassium level.
So many people on low carb diets these days and with that type of diet it's easy to end up with serious potassium deficiency. One way to fix that is something like avocado which is low carb but also a good source of potassium.
Meeting with my cardiologist, next week so will DG discuss.
Currently take 2 BP pills and potassium chloride.. Will let you know update
Update??
I remember reading somewhere that parsley tea can help reduce blood pressure.
Yes. Parsley is a depurative. It has a detoxifying effect by eliminating heavy metals from the body. Use organic. It’s contradicted for pregnant women.
Great video. Why are we prescribed medications to treat high blood pressure that pretty much flush the potassium and sodium (and other electrolytes) out of our bodies? This is bananas to me!
I wonder why both my family doctor and cardiologist have not mentioned any of this to me. I am on 2 high blood pressure meds. 58 years old and lost 25 pounds on the ketogenic diet. Thank you Doctor Clayton
