You'd certainly have a hard time explaining the thief on the cross if it were required for salvation!
I sometimes think how neat it would be if the poor guy would only have known how helpful and encouraging his circumstances would prove to be to so many people!

My church didn’t allow me to get baptized because I was engaged and living with my partner. Should I look for somewhere else to get baptized or should I just wait t after I get married ? Also does scripture talk about who can or can’t get baptized ?

@@Stephanie-xp4xz I am no one to tell you what to do but the way I see it... you should get baptized as soon as you have truly believed in and excepted Jesus' gift and asked Him to be Lord of your life, turning from sin to God. Getting baptized is about you and God. It is not dependent on your status in life. It is an outward expression of a genuine inward faith. Once you have that and are ready to declare it publicly, nothing should stop you. Acts 8:36-38 "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him." God bless.

@@katiesonlinename thank you. I thank god for him sending you to comment on my situation. I really needed to hear this 🤍 I feel and think the same way but in the church I attend the way it looks like getting baptized right now will be incorrect for me since I’m still living in sin since I’m not legally married nor been blessed by a pastor, but in the Bible it doesn’t even say that in order to be married you have to sign a paper, do a ceremony, or have a pastor bless you, I feel like as long god and my family knows the feelings me and my fiancé have for one another that’s all that matters, even before my fiancé asked me for marriage I always/still do treat him like my husband.

    • @Jinnyfir

@@jonathansoko1085 It's a number of reasons, but all it comes down to a lack of full understanding of the Bible and the epidemic levels of spiritual immaturity of both leadership and the community.
The church is not supposed to be a hive mind. We are given instructions on how to deal with disagreements amongst ourselves but we are all created to be unique individuals. Even the original 12 had disagreements. We are human and we all have blind spots, we will never be 100% right 100% percent of the time.
Here's another way to think of it: a family is made up multiple people, all of whom are unique individuals but all share a common last name. A healthy family can all be unified on certain things but still differ, and even strongly disagree, on others and still be closely tied together while an unhealthy one may share a last name but will not have that same unity. There is a good reason we are described as the "Body of Christ", with unified but differentiated parts. The human body would not be "human" if every single cell did exactly the same thing in exactly the same way. Without the core genetic instructions to grow and diversify, it would just be a non-functioning pile of cells.
That being said, the current state of the Christian community is plagued by counterfeits that have caused massive amounts of damage internally (the Body of Christ) and externally (the World). It's a twofold issue. Leaders will not teach the truth when it gets uncomfortable for fear of loosing income (which is why I'm suspicious of mega churches and nice buildings) and the rest not reading their bibles fully and completely, doing their own research so they avoid blindly following others when they teach what we call a false doctrine.
If somebody claims to be a Christian but does not exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit, (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control) there is something else going on there.
      I hope that helps.

@@jonathansoko1085 Some denominations have exactly the same theology. The difference may be historical convenience of administration. Different congregation management, for example one denomination may own the church property and manage the congregations and in another denomination each congregation is a separate not for profit corporation which owns its own building and hires pastors from a denomination provided list of available ordained clergy. Others have small differences in practice. For example the LCMS and WELS have exactly the same theology. Both agree that the Bible is the word of God and profess the Book of Concord as their primary statement of faith. Both practice separation from contamination from different theology, this means closed communion and only allowing their own pastors to preach from their pulpits. Also not offering public prayer where there may be pressure to compromise. This does not mean not holding prayer and services in public places, it means not participating in someone elses event such as a dedication of government services. WELS is stricter than LCMS and disfellowshiped when LCMS joined an international association of Lutheran denominations some of which have different theology. Also some LCMS congregations host Boy Scout troups which the government has classified as a religious organization because they require belief in A God but do not specify which God.
LCMS and WELS do acknowledge each other as having correct theology. Both welcome anyone to worship but require instruction before becoming a member and taking communion. My parents were lifelong LCMS ( my father converted from Presbyterian but my mother has been LCMS since she was born) when they found it difficult to get to the nearest LCMS congregation they started attending the closer WELS congregation. After a brief talk with the pastor they were welcomed as communicate members. No instruction required.
My point is that while some denominations are very different many of the differences are .much less than critics would have people think.

Our pastor explains it like a wedding ring. It’s a symbol. If you take your ring off are you not married anymore? No. It’s not inherent to your salvation. It’s an important symbol, but not required to be saved. However, out of the overflow of Jesus in our hearts, that should make us WANT to be baptized and show the symbol of “I have given my life to Jesus” - just like how we wear our wedding ring.

I went to a baptist church as a kid, that when you hit a certain age if you didn’t become a member of the church you were “ousted” so to speak, but to become a member you needed to be baptized. And In order to be baptized, you had to complete several classes and speak in front of the deaccans and all of that. I was 6. I would get anxious every time and say I didn’t know the answers. I literally just wanted to get baptized. I’d accepted Jesus when I was 4, I figured it was more than time. But I never could “pass the class”.
The older I get the more I realize how messed up many of their teachings were. I go to an Assembly of God church now, and there’s no such thing as “membership classes” or to be a memento you need to be baptized with that church. Baptism is an outward expression of your declaration of faith….not a church membership requirement!

I’m not new to faith but did it more out of obedience as a follower of Christ and a child of GOD and really felt convicted and prompted by the Holy Spirit to do so, I’ve been wrestling in my head a little bit tho (probably foolishly) because I was so ready to say yes to the questions they asked when getting baptized (do I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior and do I repent of my sins and vow to follow Jesus for the rest of my life), that I barely remember them asking me and I have some unsettledness because of that, I also kind of feel bad because I didn’t immediately jump for joy and start praising and thanking GOD right away, I was a little overwhelmed in my feelings in a good way tho, anyway I know this is probably more of a spiritual attack but it has been on my mind a little bit of how to feel about it

I assume some churches require people to be members before baptizing them. Then some churches require you to sign paperwork to become members. There is a lot of ‘stuff’ you need to agree to if you want to be a member and you may not agree with all of it. It isn’t quite as simple as this unfortunately with ‘corporate’ churches. However, you can simply find a few believers and go down to a river. That was the way it has been done for centuries and how the first Christians did it.

I was baptized when I was 16 years old. I guess I am the ones called “book believers” I read the Bible and felt the Lord speak to me in his teaching. I went to the nearest church, but even though the doors were open no one was inside. It occurred to me that the priests live in Vicarage, so I went there.
It so happened that there was a youth priest from whom I asked to be baptized ... he was a Lutheran priest. He asked me three questions to remember: do I believe that God, the creator of heaven and earth, manifests as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And do I believe that Jesus our Lord has become flesh and died for our sins? And do I believe that Jesus has redeemed my sins and only by believing in Him can I be saved. When I answered all that I believe and when he told me what it means to be baptized, he baptized me in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
I don’t know if I’m Lutheran, but I attend all churches for worship. I have never been thrown out and I have always felt welcome even though I do not fully understand all the doctrines of all the denominations, let alone accept them.
I think baptism is a matter between me and the Lord.

We should meet together with other believers but there is no verse that says - you shall attend and become a member of a 501c3 organization. The format shall be gather in a big room, sing 3 songs, listening to one person speak for exactly 45 minutes, pass a plate while singing 2 more songs then a prayer. You weren't baptized in the Biblical sense. Bsby baptism and confirmation are man-made traditions. So is the official act of joining a church (although there's nothing wrong with church membership, per se).
Are you born again? You need to ask Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior before you can be baptized. YOU have to be old enough to repent before God and surrender your life to Christ:
"...our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.'
That act of faith is a one-time event and marks your spiritual birthday, when you are literally saved/ born again of the Spirit of God and now have eternal life in Christ Jesus. THEN you can be baptized in water, where you give witness to all present on that day -- in heaven, on earth and under the earth -- of your burial and resurrection with Christ:
" Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
I do not believe (and this is my personal view) that water baptism is merely symbolic. I believe it's a spiritual act whereby a born again believer buries his old man, but regardless of your take, the old man/woman can't be buried if it's not dead, and repenting is a personal choice a baby cannot make.

Likewise, you MUST cut covenant with God to be legally his. There are no illegals in the Kingdom of God. You must say "I do" to Him so your name can be written in the Book of Life. It's a decision, a choice, not a daily prayer.
I am concerned that you say you do not understand Scripture, that you do not feel quite at home in your church (you cannot grow spiritually if there is no close fellowship with others), and that you do not seem to grasp that Jesus commanded water baptism. I understand that christians would want to be baptized, but i have always been told that you don't HAVE to be baptized. Baptism doesn't save. Is the assumption here that the 12 were baptized when Jesus gave them the bread and wine and therefore we must be too? I was glad to get baptized in this church because i wanted to testify in public what Jesus had done for me and how I had been changed. I'm not a member of the church and probably never will be, for many reasons. However this is not one of the reasons. When I was saved, when I was 12, I felt really guilty, week after week, for not going forward for baptism at my grandmother's church. But guilty feelings do not equate the conviction of the Holy Spirit, because the only way that church would have baptized anyone, was if the person to be baptized affirmed every one of their doctrines, many of which I did not, and do not, believe--including baptismal regeneration. So the obedience of water baptism is important, but not getting baptized beats lying about doctrinal beliefs in order to get baptized!
And some of them get very rough with people who question those doctrines, as I found out later during a so-called counseling session. God was not pushing me to go forward in that church. Guilty feelings can be of very complex origin, and can consist of false guilt, as well as true guilt, or a weird mixture of both.

Thank you for this video, Mike
I was baptized in 2019 in Seventh-Day Adventist church.
    Here is my story
(I am not that good in English because i am from Ukraine).
I could not imagine that I would be an Adventist, because i did not and still do not share the key Adventist doctrines (the remnant church, the gift of prophecy for Ellen White, 1844 and investigative judgment, and that redemption on the cross wasn't complete etc. etc.).
Before that I was baptized by sprinkling in the Orthodox Church when I was a child. At the same time, I always wanted to be consciously baptized, to make an actual choice to it. One summer day I was told that the evangelist Vadim Butov arrived to the city and asked if I wanted to be baptized?
I took it as sign from God and agreed (ironically, pond near territory of orthodox St. Panteleimon's Cathedral was setup as a baptismal place). I was worried that they would start calling me to take "baptismal vows", which usually include "remnant church things". But that time it was different, I was asked only for a few key things: do I believe that Jesus Christ came to earth to redeem our sins, do I recognize God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, do I believe in the Second Coming of Christ, do I consider the Bible to be the Word of God, containing the truth for the present time, and whether I recognize the 10 commandments as the law of God, including the commandment of the Sabbath.
I really believe in that, so there were no problems. I am glad that a person is baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ, and not into church order, and I believe that the Lord himself calls people to baptism.

This is just my 2 cents from a random internet stranger. My husband was baptized in the Mormon church - he has since come to Jesus and has given his life to the true Jesus of the Bible (not the made up Mormon person they call Jesus). I asked a similar question as far as if he should be baptized again. I feel like after reading your question my immediate response in my heart was ‘well, what do you feel you should do?’ - if you have conviction because you now know the truth of Gods word and you know you were baptized in a “false religion” (much like my husband was baptized in a false religion) and you want to be baptized to show your love for Christ, you should. I don’t think it’s a requirement for salvation. Our pastor explains it like a wedding ring. It’s a symbol. It doesn’t have to be done for your salvation but we should want to do it out of the overflow of the love of Christ in our hearts after declaring our faith and love for the true God of the universe. Much like if you remove your wedding ring, it doesn’t mean you’re no longer married. We wear the wedding ring to show others we have given our hearts to a special person - like baptism shows we have given our life snd heart to God. I hope that’s helpful. I don’t know if it’s what pastor Mike would say, but I hope still helpful.

Even other parts of Chruch including even Roman Catholic or Orthodox will recognize your baptism as valid. Remember that "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life". But the Bible doesn't say that those who aren't water baptized won't be saved. It says that about believing, not about baptism of any kind.
Mark 16:16 KJV - He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
It does not say, He who is not water baptized will be damned, it only says that about refusing to believe in Jesus.
In addition, not everything we grow up thinking turns out to be correct. Many good Bible teachers say that being "born of water" means being born by natural birth, since water plays such an important and visible part of childbirth. If that is so, it corresponds to being born the first time--born.of water--and being born again--botn of the Spirit. And this makes all the promises of salvation through faith in Jesus true, whether we have been water baptized or not. If water baptism is necessary, then the others made a promise of salvation through faith, alone, not mentioning baptism. A requirement of baptism for salvation would make those promises untrue. But the one verse often taken to mean that, without water baptism, we are not really saved, doesn't actually say that. So I conclude that water baptism is a good testimony when it is done for the right reasons, but it is not essential for salvation.

I’m curious - my husband was baptized Mormon in his first marriage when he didn’t actually believe in the Mormon church. He’s a born again Christian and we are members of our church now. He has not been baptized again since being baptized as a Mormon. Does he need to be baptized again?

Mike, in Reformed covenant theology baptism is the sign of the New Covenant made between Christ and His church ( Col. 2:11-12), with the continued participation in the covenant via the Lord's Supper. What you are presenting is the Baptist position. Covenants have signs. Baptism is not a personal testimony of a person's faith.

Throughout the Bible, baptism comes after believing, not before. The new covenant is for all believers, not for all baptized. Mike has a good video on infant baptism.

As the temple has been destroyed so are the documents related to the lineage. The Rabbinic religious authorities making the objection want to deny Yeshua is the Messiah, so for sure they will use this to create a smoke screen to hide the secret!
Hidden mostly through the oral law + small changes to the Tanakh (in the AD created Hebrew version) from the Jews that Yeshua is their so longed Messiah!
Which is a very demonic strategy to deny our brothers and sisters their salvation. We need to pray their salvation!

I think he should wait until he finds a church and starts attending regularly. The reason being is that if you go forward to receive baptism at a church, you are going to be expected to go there regularly. There is likely a team that will follow up with you (as there should be), and explaining to them that "I don't agree with your teachings about x, y, and z, but I did just want to get baptized" is going to be a hard conversation

I prefer to not be water baptized. I have not seen scripture that recommends water baptism as a symbol to your friends and church. I have read 1 Corinthians 1:14, though. I have seen that continuing to engage in this practice often confuses people who have weak faith into believing things such as water baptism salvation, or at the very least some view it as "an insurance policy" just in case it is required (for those leaning towards grace alone, but aren't sure). I am baptized in the holy spirit, and that's all I need. I don't want to place the burden of water baptism on anyone. I think it's just cultural.

Is Acts 2:38-39 not say what happens when baptized? Read chapters 1 through 4 for context but clearly baptism is way more than just joining God's family. How about Romans 6:1-7? Or 1 Peter 3:18-22? We have to not just read what we want to read and take what God intended out of context. Baptism is required for salvation! Do your research people! Study out baptism and come to your on convictions. Please don't rely on what you hear from others myself included, but do your research if you are serious about your walk with God.

This is a silly question that I've answered a thousand times before. Since baptism is for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38), why would you delay? This is why people were always baptized immediately in the New Testament, even after midnight (Acts 16:25,33,34). The apostle Paul was rebuked for delaying (Acts 22:16), his was 3 days. That's not what you see today.

I could do the same and play the what "if" games with you, but that would be pointless! The real question is, why are YOU rejecting the command to be baptized FOR the forgiveness of your sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Col. 2:11-13)? You have no excuse for not doing it! And, you WILL be held accountable for not obeying the Lord (Lk. 6:46).

Why do the Sola gracia Calvinists practice water immersion ( baptism ) as a condition of their salvation ( or symbol of their repentance)? Sola gracia either means GRACE ALONE or it doesn't. Unlike faith, water immersion can be classified as WORKS! For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift--not from works, so that no one can boast.
