I agree why people live in fast lane I don't know! When we got our house years ago we had to work and save and wait but I suppose people are so different than in the seventies 😊
I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your videos and seeing what you’ve done in the house. You and Zara are making a lovely cosy home together and seeing you decorate your first tree in your new home made me so happy. I know you’re feeling tired, houses do that to you, but what a privilege to have such a lovely home. Enjoy both of you and I can’t wait to see the next one. Xxxx
It’s really hard work moving house and doing tasks that you have never done before , just take your time and dont let it overwhelm you . Lovely to see your mam over with you . Enjoy getting ready for your first Christmas in your new home x x
I was keeping dog food in the hall cupboard until one day I noticed it seemed to be emptying quicker than I was using it. I lifted the bag up and dog kibble fell out of a hole in the bottom of the bag. Then I noticed a hole in the floorboard under the bag where rats had chewed a hole in the floorboards to get into the bag. They had got in under the floorboards chewing through a hole in an air brick. The scent of dog food is highly attractive to them, they can even smell it through plastic boxes. If you have floorboards in your hall cupboard make sure the tiles cover right up to the edges of the cupboard and check all your air bricks regularly.
So happy to see you busy in your home. Don't get rid of your leaves. They are GOLD to a gardener. Just pile them at the back and put a couple of buckets of water on them. Great way to start your compost.
I gather mine up and spread them on the flower beds to rot down and keep everything warmer in winter!

Put them in black bin bags, poke a few holes in the bottom and pile behind your shed!! Pure gold ( compost ) next year!!

The house is looking great . Don't be so hard on yourself. You are doing a great job. If things get to much go in the garden and breathe. Be kind to yourself. 😺 X
For a new home owner, you’re doing far better than most! Give yourself some grace and recognize the hurdles you’ve successfully made it over. Look at how great the cupboard under the stairs and those curtain rods in the bay/bow windows look-not an easy task, by the way! Everyone that is great at DIY and home repair first made lots of mistakes as they learned how to do it. ❤

Despite the tiredness ( which is totally understandable)you , zara and even maggie look so so much happier luke its so lovely to see . My black lab loves maggie , now the hubby is hooked as well , hes just said " i bet hes a grand lad " ...thats the highest of praise of a Yorkshire man .
It’s all coming together lovely but remember it’s a marathon not a sprint don’t get yourself stressed… life is a learning curve and you’ll spoil the memories that are supposed to be happy and joyful if you over stress yourself… love your mam x
Luke and Zara, being first time home owners is not for the weak. You will learn a ton of things out of necessity, and cost saving. Just remember you can find TH-cam videos on almost any subject. My husband and I have fixed several things around our house from watching a video.
I love the bathroom cabinet and think it would be amazing as a bar. Maybe put two side by side, one for glasses and cocktail shakers and the other for wine and booze.
So lovely seeing you put the tree up in your new home, that was a moment. Always great to see your mam. Brass poles look fab and love the bathroom storage. You have a good eye for arty stuff too. It's great timing getting slowly sorted for Christmas.
Don't put yourself down you're doing brilliant you have a lifetime to do things so well done
Life is a learning curve, Luke. You are doing amazing, just remember that old saying "Rome was not built in a day". Take your time. All the best to you.
Hi Luke . I’m from Durham and live in north wales. It’s lovely to see your mum helping out and hearing the accent too. I’m moving next Friday 1st Dec and so looking forward to putting all our stuff in place. It’s nice to see you both enjoying your new home. Take care all of you xx

Take your time….live with the house a bit….then it will come to you slowly what you need to do, and where to put stuff.
The tree is lovely….just needs a “skirt”….or a Maggie-bed underneath!
I love the bathroom cabinet.
Lovely to see your mam down at the new house. We struggled to find good bathroom storage when we upgraded the bathroom. In the end we put a two door Ikea kitchen unit it’s a 200mm deep but 6000mm high, it’s white gloss so perfect for the bathroom. It’s above the toilet like yours so what I would say is always have the toilet seat down when your talking stuff out of the cupboard, I learned the had way 🤦♀️😂 xx

Once you own a house you find the project list is never, ever finished. And you'll mess a lot of stuff up, but don't worry, you'll be able to fix it. I've had my house for 20 years and last month I caulked a window with liquid nails instead of silicon by mistake! Much love from California ❤❤❤

It may sound daft but Zara, Maggie, the House and Yourself are the perfect fit, its like you’ve always lived there. I think the tiredness is the stress of moving house finally catching up with you both. The house is looking amazing already but take it easy, give yourselves a chance to breathe, having said that I'm loving seeing your excitment buying and putting your new home together. Your mum's face in Ikea was priceless. 😂 Looking forward to the up and coming videos. Take care. 😊

You have done so much in a short amount of time. It’s looking so much like your home.
Remember that with each new skill you learn, like planing a door, it will help you with other jobs down the line. Homeownership definitely comes with the need to purchase so many new tools also! But you’re doing it right by organizing your stairs cupboard and putting things where you Will know where to find them.
I can’t imagine how excited you must be to finally be in your own home! You guys did it! You were patient and determined to get into a home and all of your and Zara’s hardwork paid off.
Be kind to yourself and your body. Remember to enjoy the moments. Breathe and enjoy your new home.

Love all the progress you have made it looks like home, just a thought put all the food for Maggie in a container on the shelf where you saw the droppings. The little critters will get into everything. preferably a tin or a plastic bin. Even if they have been eliminated from the home. I have to make your French onion soup. My favorite

You're doing a great job both of you! When we bought our house, we started removing some wallpaper and all the plaster on the wall fell off back to brick...I definitely had to breathe after that drama 😅 You will get there though. It can take time, but is so worth it in the end xx

Luke if u put blue painters tape. We call it painters tape. U put it on the back of ur item u are going to hang,clock, picture ect. Mark a pin whole on the tape where u would to put the nails on wall. Pull off the tape from picture and flip tape over and make sure the tape is level on the wall put ur wholes in the wall and wala done. I remove the tape. Tada done....

Love that your tree is full of memories, also love that your Mum does not like IKEA, I find it overwhelming and have frequently come out having bought nothing. The cafe is good though. Just take your time with sorting, live with the house for a bit first and enjoy the planning.

IKEA is my favorite place. I love the bathroom cabinet, the Christmas ornaments are darling too. The food looks amazing. And you and the ladies are all so cute and gorgeous.
I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this but there’s probably 10 you tubers with videos on how to use that tool. There’s a class for every tool and job in the world on you tube. I actually think that’s how I found your channel when you were doing the hallway in your flat. Anyway, Maggie looks gorgeous in her new collar. My dogs don’t have collars because we use harnesses but now I want to get them pretty collars like Maggie’s for Christmas.

It makes you think, there's so much more to think about when owning your own home, more things you need. You have to do all DIY, but at least you don't have to wait on landlords to get something fixed. I long for a day when I have my own home, I want to learn to do DIY, to and choose colours that you want, in our old home that we rented I got to at least paint, but that's it.

Love the new home,but if it’s going to be a forever home,slow down and relax into it,it will evolve with you as time goes by,Luke and Zara you will need a basic tool kit and definitely a work bench Its like buying for a kitchen you need all the appliances when you have that watch some DIY channels it will get easier or get Iwan round to help you.Your both doing great.Lovely to see your Mam,I completely understand her not liking IKEA it’s to big and busy for me,but needs must.love to you all.xxxx
@donnabennett2546 that's such a good and useful comment. When I moved into my home it was all 80's orange pine and I wanted to change it all so my home decor bits would fit in and it would look more like my old rented place. My son wanted us to live with it and see how I felt in 6 months. 2 and half years down the line I've changed the home decor and the pine is still the same. Not to everyone's taste but we grew into the home and I love the fact that it's got a cosy cottage feel. If I'd changed it all when I first moved in I'd have regretted it now.

Half the fun is knowing that you can do it when you feel inclined. I always think if you do things when your not in the mood, you won’t make a good job of the task at hand.Relax and enjoy the journey!

Keep an eye on Vinted for curtains. Can be a cheaper option if you need something quickly. You are doing well, don't be so hard on yourself x

Charity shops also sell them sometimes! I got my curtains from one and they were brand new! Never been used, still had all the packaging on, & under £10! So definitely worth keeping an eye out for sure!

My dear late dad used to smoke those cigarettes and he would write notes (shopping etc) on the front of the pack. If he were alive now he would be over 110. A lovely find. Xxxxxx. He lived until 82 but he did stop smoking 20 years before 👍. Xxxxxx.

Hi Luke when putting owt on wall , put mastic tape put on wall mastic tape on item then put tape on wall drill holes where markings are in tape , it's good because tape peels off and your holes are level , 👍 welcome in your new home have lots of memories and love and healthy times both of you 👍😘x

WOW! havent you done a lot. Considering you only moved in a short time ago you have done really well. I wonder if I could ask you - while youre spending - if you could get Maggie a bigger dog bed. She has grown so much and she looks so cramped in the one she has now and shes so lovely she deserves a little extra pampering. She is being so good isnt she. When we moved to our first home we had no idea about DIY and didn't even own a screwdriver. It's a massive learning curve. TH-cam is great for most jobs we've done, including some plumbing jobs. Electrics are a different matter though, leave anything more than changing light fittings to the experts. I'm surprised at how much you've managed to do. Don't work too hard and take it all in. You're creating a beautiful home, but it takes time. Don't be too hard on yourself. You're a beautiful person on the inside and outside ❤

I moved a year ago and haven't put up pictures yet😂. I learned to use painters tape across the back of mirror etc marking the spots for the screws then put the painters tape on the wall use your level and your screw holes are on spot DIY Danie, Alexandra Gater, and The Sorry Girls in Canada 🇨🇦 the best DIY Hope it helps.

I would call your tacky Christmas tree the tree of memories; these are ornaments that bring you joy and happiness and memories. Over the years, we’ve been buying Christmas ornaments from every place that we visit when we go on vacation and admittedly most are tacky, but every year when we bring them out to decorate the tree, they bring back memories of all our vacations. We just got home from a cruise to the Caribbean and I purchased Santa ornaments from every port of call we visited and they will join the rest of our ornaments on our tree of memories. Have you thought about getting an ornament for your tacky tree that says first Christmas in our new home, 2023? We have kiosks in the malls in Canada that will customize ornaments for you, I don’t know if you have the same type of kiosks in the U.K. I’ve been loving your moving videos Luke, I remember when we moved into our first house (many, many years ago now) and the excitement and pride we felt. It’s a very special moment and I feel so much happiness for you, Zara and Maggie.

Luke please dont be too hard on yourself. DIY is a steep learning curve and you will make mistakes along the way but remember that is how you learn. You are doing so well and did a great job of the curtain poles. Love watching the house turn into a home :)
