As a Montessori Trained Teacher, I applaud your home set up! You are teaching your child the vital skill of independence and that they're capable of completing everyday tasks without help from their parents. You are also providing your child with the tools to learn about and experience the world as it is. As you've shown in your video, many Montessori learning materials can be made at home - the key is time and care to make the world accessible for your child (safely).
Can You start even if they are 2 and four… after my abusive Marriage all ive been doing is play with them and being outside… i feel im a bad mom for slacking on the montessori… ive been doing it all on my own, with no support so what can i do to start getting my Sons be more independent.. Parents were brutal without seeing it even now. So harsh to kids. Like forcing kids to walk long-distance now that oh they can walk. No no no. They can walk at 13 months but till they are 4+ atleast they will get tired. Imagine that child being forced to walk like that. Plus so many other things really.
I remember being told I had to shower by myself when my parents found out that a friend of us had already been showering by herself for a while. I thought it was so scary bc my parents had always told me that the tub was really dangerous bc I could slip and fall.
@@misselle1430Omg I hated hikes. My parents would take me and my sister on 3 hour super steep hikes and we were like 4 and 8. These hikes were intense for grownups and the two of us would basically always end up in tears when arriving to the top. Then coming home with painful toes from the descent.
I don’t think I was that independent at 18 living with my mom lol. I’m very excited to have my child and help them have this experience of freedom and capability
dunno why I'm watching this as a 19 year old with no plans of having children anytime soon but this was probs one of the most relaxing videos I've seen in a while. I like how organized everything is and how you even have a compost bin as well!
Well you are already learning useful things you can apply to your family life if you ever decide to have kids in the future. I don't have kids yet but I plan to, so I'm already researching and learning what I can so I'm not completely lost when the time comes lol
I absolutely love how your child has spaces throughout the entire house so she can be a true part of the family. I once heard from a Montessori teacher that her job wasn't to help the children take care of themselves, it was to find ways to allow the children to care for themselves.
I presume you don't entertain/have guests at home then? It looks great for the child, but it's like you walk in the kindergarten. Where is/are adult only spaces? O_o
@angua65 the child is integrated into the adult spaces. The "adult-only" space is probably just the parent's room. This is a human child living with their parents not an ape who should be kept in a seperate room, your guests will not be offended that your home looks like a daycare and if they are offended then you probably need more mature friends who puts the life if your child above their own wants of visiting a home that has children but looks like it doesn't

I was a little frustrated because it can get a little tiring advocating for children to be treated like people and I thought the tone you used implied you thought children’s things should be hidden from the spaces where you may have guests

Everyone who loves this video, please note that the family here has not only employed a thoughtful environment, but has studied and integrated the Montessori method into how they present all of this to the child, and the method is 99% of the reason for success here! A beautiful environment can help but not replace the attitude of the parents :)
Former Montessori Kid here ( one of the first our Montessori Kindergarten and school was in 1970) I had to smile - this really takes me back, especially the rice and the books and the water jug and little kitchen

I'm in my first trimester and taking serious notes. I love how independent she is able to be. One of my husband's worries about being a father is losing his independence to constantly look after a little one, at least when I'm not around/need a break. I think this strategy will help us significantly.

It’s your life but please analizar those words carefully. This sounds like traditional misogynistic expectations from a man who wants little to no contact with their kid. Having a kid is a responsibility form both parties involved, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re a stay a home mom and he’s the breadwinner. Having a kid is obviously going to get rid of your “independence” for a few years. Please consider having a serious talk with your husband, because otherwise you’ll have two kids to look after instead of just one. And I’m talking about your husband being a man child and refusing to take responsibility over the life that you both created.

My baby is 9 weeks old and I was looking for videos on how to make him self independent when he’s older. I had no idea where to begin, so this video was a fantastic place to start. I don’t have a big space as my home is much smaller. The bed on the floor, bookshelf and the activities for play are the things I will copy. Thank you so much and Alina has a fantastic environment 💕
be sure to study the Montessori method as it is a philosophy that is different from a lot of other parenting methods. None of what you see here was imposed on or coerced out of the child...each "lesson" or activity is offered, without expectations, trusting that when the child is ready they will want to do most things because there is an intrinsic joy in caring for ones self and ones environment. I don't even have children and I don't really plan to have any in the future, but I've always admired the Montessori mindset and the importance of independence for children. Huge kudos to you for being an amazing parent and for raising your gorgeous daughter this way! 🥰 (Also, the inner child in me grew jealous the longer I watched the video. Wow it’s really evident how much effort and time you’ve put into each space for Alina to flourish and take on tasks on her own! Amazing! And so inspiring! And a kids sized shoe horn that is something I never would have thought of but I can definitely believe it’s a game changer! Gonna have to get one for my kids!
Hi! Yes it definitely took lots of time and effort in the space but it was labour of love 🥰 The kids shoe horns are the best!! Once kids get a hang of it, they manage putting shoes on all by themselves and this makes our morning so much easier, especially when we are in a rush!

Love love love this. It's adorable! My boys had an Ikea play kitchen for a few years but we got rid of it because they stopped playing with it! However I have always kept their dishes in a low cabinet, and each of them started learning to unload the dishwasher when they were 3 and loved matching things. Here was the progression, and it can be adjusted depending on the child: 3-4: unload silverware 5-8: unload silverware and their dishes, reload silverware 9+ (or once they can reach all the cabinets): unload whole dishwasher, start learning to load whole thing.
I think the Montessori idea is much better than a play kitchen, because children have their own real utensils etc and do not just play with them but learn to do real things. Children get easily bored with a toy stove, fake food and such.
Expecting father here and I'm very impressed by your video. I'm discussing with my wife how we should implement some Montessori methods into our home as well. This is an excellent video depiction and my wife and I are sure to use some of these methods!

I'm new to learning about Montessori, but it is very intriguing. I can see how it would definitely encourage independence. And, I can actually see how it could help kids learn to clean up instead of tasks just feeling so out of reach... literally. I have 5 kids, and am excited to try to make the home and works more accessible to my children.
I hope you will learn from studying Montessori the power of "offering" lessons as opposed to 'imposing" them, or "cajoling" them. the set up is certainly impressive and is very helpful, but it is the freedom to engage or not to engage in an activity that makes all the difference . All these activities are a joy for the child when they are freely chosen. Good luck to you!
this really made me reflect on how our fears for letting children grow and learn and make a mess and figure things out implies that we don’t think they’re capable in the first place and so we don’t give them the chance to learn (therefore confirming our beliefs).

As a mother of 4 and having worked in a nursery I absolutely loved this video . You are lucky enough to have the space to do what most of us dream of doing but absolutely we can all adapt for our children even if we live in small spaces
My whole house basically just as big as her living room haha, but I agree with you, we can adapt the ideas, I think a learning chair would be helpful for kids to access things, be sure to watch them all the time though

Ok, I'll admit I had no idea what to expect. This is amazing! I love how you've empowered her. There are definitely things I would do differently, mostly because I have ADHD and my baby probably will too (cause it tends to be genetically linked), like continuing to use plastic and not glass or ceramic, but the ideas are awesome. I hope you have other Montessori videos cause I'm fixing to start hunting for them! Thank you for making this!
To add context, people with ADHD often drop things because our hands just open without us trying to do it. So, if it's an important object I, a 30 year old woman, will hold it with 2 hands to make sure I don't drop it. 😅

Love this! I have 2 nieces under one and when my other niece was a baby I always child proof but now I have 3 nieces 11 year old, 10 months, 2 months and my 3 pets 😅 so I have to be careful about how I place things around my apartment. My older niece was always okay with my dog but I have 2 cats and love how you have this so functional for your kiddos.
No clue why youtube suggested this since I'm in my mid 50s with no kids, but darn it if I didn't learn quite a bit! These techniques were super interesting and it made me wish this video had been available ages ago when my friends' kids were this age.
I went to Montessori school from 1th to 5th grade. We were mixed so 1-3th graders was in the same class, ans then they mixed 4-5th graders, with the intention to learn from each other and get a more versitile class. We also had free schedule, so we could do "whatever" we wanted to, so we would learn more from play rather than planned lessons. Don't know if it was successful in all aspects.. 😄
I'm not even done with the video and I've already subscribed! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. I'm also a working mom; my hubby and I are both remote with our 14 month old at home. I want to rework things so it's a learning environment as I don't think she'll be at school until about the 2 year mark. This is ideal 👌🏾 thanks so much!

I also love how you incorporated the KonMari method and how everything is so beautifully organized. I wonder how one could apply these techniques in a home with many children of different ages.
Thank you for reminding parents that children will break things like their glassware, but that's how they learn things break. So many parents say to me, "but aren't they going to break it" and I'm like yeah, probably!
well, it depends on how much your heart is attached to the things they break, I guess. I used to have two favourite mugs - my dogs already managed to shatter one of them by knocking it off the coffee table, so now I am keeping the other one out of reach from paws and little hands. ^^
This is so awesome. This is something I've been so interested in implementing since I became a mother last year. It's been a struggle trying to find the energy and time to do it with all of life's happenings coming at me at once...but now that my daughter is one year old and things are starting to settle down (and I'm able to get a bit more sleep 🤣) I really want to try and start implementing some of things in a way that's applicable for me and her. I am so amazed. My mind is absolutely blown. I would love to do something like this for my son, even though I don't have the same amount of space, I don't think it really makes a difference, making room for her and her spaces is so important. This is all so new to me, I just clicked on this randomly. Have you always done Montessori or was this a new journey you started? How old is your daughter? My son is 3 and very bright, but I have always felt I wasn't maximizing his potential. I just accepted the electronic toys and the tele like my parents did for me, i know, not always wise to do what you were taught especially since i often felt empty as a child and worry over my son feeling the same way all the while not knowing the alternative to what I've learned in my life. I once asked about Montessori and watched a couple videos but nothing as simple and to the point as this one. The other ones I watched basically said it was probably too late to make the switch. But I feel like this would relax my child greatly and eliminate the bordum and tantrums after he learns to move around and function in the new set up. I love it, thank you so much!

I do feel that ever since we setup our home the Montessori way, I found my daughter a lot more engaged and focused on daily tasks that's happening around the house, and she is more aware of her surroundings and she enjoys being able to do so much things on her own without having to rely on me all the time, which i think reduces tantrums a lot as well.. hope you and your son enjoys your new montessori space and wish you good luck!! xx
Great childrens kitchen (Kinderküche) with real water! Also great learning tower (lernturm), similar to climbing chair (Kletterstuhl). Some of Alinas furniture looks similar to what my 3 (now adult) children they visited Montessori Kinderhaus (Kindergarden) and school. Our children had a (danish Flexa self mountable) loft bed with space on the ground and colorfull windowed-curtains to play house/kitchen, a table desk to play merchant shop or Kasper theatre, our son had an IKEA loft bed with childrens slide and train signal on top. We got into Montessori as my wifes uncles & aunts were teacher.
I think the toy rotation and display is really smart. As a little kid I had trouble finding my toys, and I was really attatched to most of them, even If I hadn't played with them for months. I had a lot of trouble choosing which ones were going to be donated after years of having them stored and seeing them every single day (but not necessarily playing).
Everything is just so cute for your daughter and functional for her that’s easy and fun. The only thing that worries me is the apple slicer in her little kitchen cabinet, the apple slicer is very sharp, she might pick up it up and accidentally touched the blades. But I would love to show your video to my sister who has four daughters and she home schools her kids, her youngest is over a year old and wants to run all over the house, touch things and distract her older sisters, so I told my sister I can be at her home to babysit her youngest and play with her and read to her, my sister is definitely overwhelmed right now. Her and her husband just moved into a new home so she’s wanting to make it kid friendly, their own space and an area for her daughters lessons. Right now they’re using their dining table until she make an learning area for desks for her daughters. 😊

Just with the apple slicer, I was a bit worried with it as well at first due to the same reason you just mentioned, but just like any other potentially dangerous items in the house such as knives and glasses, Alina also learned to be careful around the apple slicer, which is the beauty of implementing Montessori at home as kids do learn to be careful around things. I really hope your sister finds my video helpful with making changes in her home for the kids!!

It’s your life but please analizar those words carefully. This sounds like traditional misogynistic expectations from a man who wants little to no contact with their kid. Having a kid is a responsibility form both parties involved, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re a stay a home mom and he’s the breadwinner. Having a kid is obviously going to get rid of your “independence” for a few years. Please consider having a serious talk with your husband, because otherwise you’ll have two kids to look after instead of just one. And I’m talking about your husband being a man child and refusing to take responsibility over the life that you both created.

My baby is 9 weeks old and I was looking for videos on how to make him self independent when he’s older. I had no idea where to begin, so this video was a fantastic place to start. I don’t have a big space as my home is much smaller. The bed on the floor, bookshelf and the activities for play are the things I will copy. Thank you so much and Alina has a fantastic environment 💕
be sure to study the Montessori method as it is a philosophy that is different from a lot of other parenting methods. None of what you see here was imposed on or coerced out of the child...each "lesson" or activity is offered, without expectations, trusting that when the child is ready they will want to do most things because there is an intrinsic joy in caring for ones self and ones environment. I don't even have children and I don't really plan to have any in the future, but I've always admired the Montessori mindset and the importance of independence for children. The kids shoe horns are the best!! Once kids get a hang of it, they manage putting shoes on all by themselves and this makes our morning so much easier, especially when we are in a rush!
Also not a mom here, but so touched by the methods and ideas...wish I could have experienced that kind of environment as a child. Very impressed by the love and dedication ❤️

Love love love this. It's adorable! My boys had an Ikea play kitchen for a few years but we got rid of it because they stopped playing with it! However I have always kept their dishes in a low cabinet, and each of them started learning to unload the dishwasher when they were 3 and loved matching things. Here was the progression, and it can be adjusted depending on the child:
3-4: unload silverware
5-8: unload silverware and their dishes, reload silverware
9+ (or once they can reach all the cabinets): unload whole dishwasher, start learning to load whole thing.
I think the Montessori idea is much better than a play kitchen, because children have their own real utensils etc and do not just play with them but learn to do real things. Children get easily bored with a toy stove, fake food and such.
Expecting father here and I'm very impressed by your video. I'm discussing with my wife how we should implement some Montessori methods into our home as well. This is an excellent video depiction and my wife and I are sure to use some of these methods!

I'm new to learning about Montessori, but it is very intriguing. I can see how it would definitely encourage independence. And, I can actually see how it could help kids learn to clean up instead of tasks just feeling so out of reach... literally. I have 5 kids, and am excited to try to make the home and works more accessible to my children.
I hope you will learn from studying Montessori the power of "offering" lessons as opposed to 'imposing" them, or "cajoling" them. the set up is certainly impressive and is very helpful, but it is the freedom to engage or not to engage in an activity that makes all the difference . All these activities are a joy for the child when they are freely chosen. Good luck to you!
this really made me reflect on how our fears for letting children grow and learn and make a mess and figure things out implies that we don’t think they’re capable in the first place and so we don’t give them the chance to learn (therefore confirming our beliefs).
This is impressive. I had none of this growing up, but I was a latch key kid so I think I just learned by using all the adult stuff anyway.
I don't plan on ever having kids, but I am a nanny. I nanny for family that does montisory style. This is educational. Can't wait to be an aunt.

As a mother of 4 and having worked in a nursery I absolutely loved this video . You are lucky enough to have the space to do what most of us dream of doing but absolutely we can all adapt for our children even if we live in small spaces

My whole house basically just as big as her living room haha, but I agree with you, we can adapt the ideas, I think a learning chair would be helpful for kids to access things, be sure to watch them all the time though

Ok, I'll admit I had no idea what to expect. This is amazing! I love how you've empowered her. There are definitely things I would do differently, mostly because I have ADHD and my baby probably will too (cause it tends to be genetically linked), like continuing to use plastic and not glass or ceramic, but the ideas are awesome. I hope you have other Montessori videos cause I'm fixing to start hunting for them! Thank you for making this!
To add context, people with ADHD often drop things because our hands just open without us trying to do it. So, if it's an important object I, a 30 year old woman, will hold it with 2 hands to make sure I don't drop it. 😅
Of course you can do things that work for you and your baby 😊

I have 2 nieces under one and when my other niece was a baby I always child proof but now I have 3 nieces 11 year old, 10 months, 2 months and my 3 pets 😅 so I have to be careful about how I place things around my apartment. My older niece was always okay with my dog but I have 2 cats and love how you have this so functional for your kiddos.
No clue why youtube suggested this since I'm in my mid 50s with no kids, but darn it if I didn't learn quite a bit! These techniques were super interesting and it made me wish this video had been available ages ago when my friends' kids were this age.
I went to Montessori school from 1th to 5th grade. We were mixed so 1-3th graders was in the same class, ans then they mixed 4-5th graders, with the intention to learn from each other and get a more versitile class. We also had free schedule, so we could do "whatever" we wanted to, so we would learn more from play rather than planned lessons. Don't know if it was successful in all aspects.. 😄

Alina goes to daycare only 2 days a week and the best thing about this setup is that I don't have to constantly entertain her, she does lots of things on her own and learned to entertain herself and keep herself busy!

I also love how you incorporated the KonMari method and how everything is so beautifully organized. I wonder how one could apply these techniques in a home with many children of different ages.
Thank you for reminding parents that children will break things like their glassware, but that's how they learn things break. So many parents say to me, "but aren't they going to break it" and I'm like yeah, probably!
well, it depends on how much your heart is attached to the things they break, I guess. I used to have two favourite mugs - my dogs already managed to shatter one of them by knocking it off the coffee table, so now I am keeping the other one out of reach from paws and little hands. ^^

This is so awesome. This is something I've been so interested in implementing since I became a mother last year. It's been a struggle trying to find the energy and time to do it with all of life's happenings coming at me at once...but now that my daughter is one year old and things are starting to settle down (and I'm able to get a bit more sleep 🤣) I really want to try and start implementing some of things in a way that's applicable for me and her. How do you deal with messes, as this is something that I'm currently struggling with. I am so amazed. My mind is absolutely blown. I would love to do something like this for my son, even though I don't have the same amount of space, I don't think it really makes a difference, making room for her and her spaces is so important. This is all so new to me, I just clicked on this randomly. Have you always done Montessori or was this a new journey you started? How old is your daughter? My son is 3 and very bright, but I have always felt I wasn't maximizing his potential. I just accepted the electronic toys and the tele like my parents did for me, i know, not always wise to do what you were taught especially since i often felt empty as a child and worry over my son feeling the same way all the while not knowing the alternative to what I've learned in my life. I once asked about Montessori and watched a couple videos but nothing as simple and to the point as this one. The other ones I watched basically said it was probably too late to make the switch. But I feel like this would relax my child greatly and eliminate the bordum and tantrums after he learns to move around and function in the new set up. I love it, thank you so much!

I feel so grateful to see your comment. yes you are exactly right about it, it's not about the size of space, it's more about giving them chance to be independent whether it's something as simple as being able to pick out your own outfit. I do feel that ever since we setup our home the Montessori way, I found my daughter a lot more engaged and focused on daily tasks that's happening around the house, and she is more aware of her surroundings and she enjoys being able to do so much things on her own without having to rely on me all the time, which i think reduces tantrums a lot as well.. hope you and your son enjoys your new montessori space and wish you good luck!! xx

Great childrens kitchen (Kinderküche) with real water! Also great learning tower (lernturm), similar to climbing chair (Kletterstuhl). Some of Alinas furniture looks similar to what my 3 (now adult) children they visited Montessori Kinderhaus (Kindergarden) and school.
Our children had a (danish Flexa self mountable) loft bed with space on the ground and colorfull windowed-curtains to play house/kitchen, a table desk to play merchant shop or Kasper theatre, our son had an IKEA loft bed with childrens slide and train signal on top.
We got into Montessori as my wifes uncles & aunts were teacher.
I love this idea, which we actually use with our child. Helps alot with independent and self catering. Amazing, thanks for sharing.

I think the toy rotation and display is really smart. As a little kid I had trouble finding my toys, and I was really attatched to most of them, even If I hadn't played with them for months. I had a lot of trouble choosing which ones were going to be donated after years of having them stored and seeing them every single day (but not necessarily playing).

Everything is just so cute for your daughter and functional for her that’s easy and fun. The only thing that worries me is the apple slicer in her little kitchen cabinet, the apple slicer is very sharp, she might pick up it up and accidentally touched the blades. But I would love to show your video to my sister who has four daughters and she home schools her kids, her youngest is over a year old and wants to run all over the house, touch things and distract her older sisters, so I told my sister I can be at her home to babysit her youngest and play with her and read to her, my sister is definitely overwhelmed right now. Her and her husband just moved into a new home so she’s wanting to make it kid friendly, their own space and an area for her daughters lessons. Right now they’re using their dining table until she make an learning area for desks for her daughters. 😊

Just with the apple slicer, I was a bit worried with it as well at first due to the same reason you just mentioned, but just like any other potentially dangerous items in the house such as knives and glasses, Alina also learned to be careful around the apple slicer, which is the beauty of implementing Montessori at home as kids do learn to be careful around things.
