Great idea. I would suggest using bushings in the hole in the aluminum block so you could thread different size rod without having to make a lot of different blocks set ups and change them out when a different size rod needs to be threaded.
Make one like the one you are suggesting please. It Will help.

I've done this. It works great. It would be nice if die holders have some more metal around to drill those holes. I've done this with an M8 die holder but now I've to do this again for M6 which is more tricky.

You could put a bevel at the tip of the rod to ease the thread die. This solution is really overcomplicated

Sorry...can't take a person seriously that uses vice grips on a bolt. If you have to use those you're not mechanically inclined and I wouldn't expect you to be able to run a straight tap or die at all. Leave that to a man...men also don't listen to that type of music.
He has a a very good idea and is obviously "mechanically" inclined. The fact that he uses the wrong tool doesnt change that.
I remember this guy cucking up his solid wrenches. Maybe he only has vice grips left.
All he needs is a chamfer on the end of the rod. Easy, straight thread cutting and a nicer finish to the end of the thread.
Keep in mind this brilliant idea is only useful for a single size tap without making a bunch of other jig parts for each diameter.
