Wow!? I wish I knew of these methods earlier in life...thanks for this. Extremely useful ways of repairing split, cracked or broken plastic. So helpful
fyi heating nylon (most strong parts of flexible plastic in RC) makes it very brittle! Do not try and repair your RC chassis with the metal hoop melted in shown here. I've looked into it at length and there's no real feasible way to "repair" broken nylon plastic parts, the only solvents that come close are dangerous and not easily available to the public and I'm unsure how well they'd work for a repair. The best "fix" for broken nylon parts is to use metal or other plastic to make a "brace" of sorts with a flexible glue around the broken area, or by drilling new attachment points to add the brace. Basically Nylon doesn't "wet" with glue and is a nightmare to glue even in industrial assembly when they have perfect conditions. It's also flexible which is a nightmare as a lot of glues are not!
Thanks for sharing your amazing techniques. Over the years, I've done simple plastic welding using fine stainless steel mesh for reinforcement, but you've shown so many more useful techniques, that I'm bound to use one day. Thanks much.

Hi great vid thanks, just one tip, when repairing cracks always drill a small hole at the end of the crack as this will prevent it from propogating further, even if it is repaired the crack may continue with vibrations ect, with a small hole that can be patched afterwards this will be prevented
@@wofy1970 And you are correct. He was doing amazing work, but 'drilling out the end of the crack' is huge for a lot of metal, glass and plastic cracks to make them stop cracking. Even if it's well-repaired, if the strain continues, if the end of the crack wasn't melted fully through, the continuing strain/use may continue the crack's propagation even despite the repairs.

I´m impressed. Do you think you´d be able to weld repairs and constructions on those cheap lightweight polyethylene tarpaulines ? I´ve tried myself, I could not hack it and ended up seaming with a sewing machine instead. I´d love seeing a detailed and functional demo :)
Adding reinforcement is necessary as when melting the plastic for repairs, the carbon content increases making the repair area more brittle. Spot heating the area with concentrated heat VERY careful to not deform the piece and then so the repair can help, but is not always feasible.

(Quick question at the end) This is awesome, I'm only 6 tips in and must comment how brilliant these tips are. I always try and fix broken plastic stuff, and sometimes successfully, but always messy and crude. Having the proper techniques is obviously key, many thanks for these!! Question: what are those metal stickers? They look very useful, would love to get my hands on those!
Probably should put a disclaimer when you're melting the plastic and the fumes are coming off to at least wear a respirator. I've been painting for 25 years so I know about these things 😢
Better than most. Superglue based repairs are marginal at best. It does not truly bond. It's easy, but not really that good. Low strength. Most of the thermal repairs are good but using wire ties as filler is most often going to be the wrong type plastic use the parent material scrap and shavings instead, That will be compatible, other materials may not be. Better to get a real adjustable plastic welder. Thermal is almost always best to retain strength and it can be reinforced, Solvent based repair using acetone may be ok, buy solvent based glues are usually better

Really good and creative vid. You have not only shown great knowledge but you decrease the use of plastics by saving those parts. One thing though, on the top side of some of those repairs the crack on the surface is still there and visible. How would you repair that and eliminate the cracked surface so you can't see it?
That's a great question! While these methods can effectively strengthen the repair, achieving a perfect cosmetic finish often requires additional techniques.
Absolutely brilliant video. Thank you!!! Not only does it provide a lot of really great ideas, but it gives me the confidence to try and fix things i would have just given up on. Does the type of plastic make a big difference though? I have a very thin crack in a transparent water reservoir on my espresso machine which is leaking. Any ideas for what would be the best type of glue to use on that type of plastic? would the the plastic and acetone idea work, or dont worry about what it looks like and use baking soda and superglue?.. Again THANK YOU!!😊
I own a farm and I'm almost 60 and I'm subscribing after watching 2 video! Lots of these things could have made my life so much easier! I'm going to marathon watch today! Thank you!
There's some seriously good stuff in this video so far, and I'm not even halfway in! I like the 'graphite-embedded gear fix', too, since that'll go nicely with the usually low-friction-nylon/ptfe-embedded plastic that the gears are often made of so they don't need oil. I wonder how long it'll last, but for 'buying you enough time to order/craft a replacement', it seems excellent!

Awesomeness! I have several things to repair and have watched a few such videos. I like that you have some without a plastic welder as I do not have one. Questions- 1) do you have a plastic welder recommendation and 2) which applications are best for the super glue patch or where is this is recommended? When is weld/ metal enforced the better approach? Regarding melting tie wraps- I saw one video in which a bundle of wraps were fed into a hot glue gun. I thought this was genius. I also have watched videos in which the welding tool was just a heated knife or other such metal tool. I’m going to try this before buying a tool. Lastly. I love the CD player got plastic dissolution with acetone. This saves me from buying the specific plastic recommended.
If you want the most sturdy material, you should use a soldering iron, but for quick and convenient connections, you can use super glue and backing soda or cotton.
Greetings from Germany , i like to see how you repair the things 👏🏻 just a question: which adhesive metal foil you used and why this type? ty for your answer 😊

Excellent tips and tricks! I learned some new tricks! Instead of staples I suppose you could use small washers. Also, making your own wire staple from wrapping a wire around a screw is brilliant! Taking a piece of copper tubing and then making it fit into the soldering tool and then being able to push a cable tie through is brilliant! WOW!

Plastic zip ties into a hot glue gun? Wouldn't that ruin the glue gun??
😅😅😅I tried it and the plastic strap didn't melt
His glue gun must be like furnace 😅
@@Cloony4u It does have temperature control, but really you just have to wait for the glue gun to get up to full temperature before doing so, as the plastic does have a slightly higher melting temp than the glue sticks!
Thanks for sharing your amazing techniques, they are great.
Glad you like them!
Usted es un genio. Gracias por compartir sus conocimientos, me han servido mucho y ya no tengo que botar las cosas que aún pueden servir. Un abrazo desde Colombia

Hello! I am very happy to read your comment. Have a good day!
Excelentes videos e aprendido mucho quisiera que hicieras un vídeo para pegar ornamentos de plástico para acuarios felicitaciones
Baking soda + charcoal = resin plastic
That’s an interesting mix! Have you tried it yourself?
How do we know what products to use for each type of plastic?
I´m impressed.
Do you think you´d be able to weld repairs and constructions on those cheap lightweight polyethylene tarpaulines ? I´ve tried myself, I could not hack it and ended up seaming with a sewing machine instead. I´d love seeing a detailed and functional demo :)
I did it and found it quite sturdy, you can try and feel it
"Cheers, that's why TH-cam is so great. You can't find such in-depth knowledge anywhere else. Thanks for that!"
Hello! Welcome to Creation Holic channel. I am very happy to read your comment. Have a good day!
Adding reinforcement is necessary as when melting the plastic for repairs, the carbon content increases making the repair area more brittle. Spot heating the area with concentrated heat VERY careful to not deform the piece and then so the repair can help, but is not always feasible.
Thank you for sharing your feedback . Have a good day!
Great work - I consider myself a good repairman, but this is sweet !!!
Glad it helped!
This is by far one of the best help videos I've ever seen. This is information I've been looking for to fix some things around my house. I've asked a few guys how to do it and they look at me like a deer caught in the headlights. I'd much rather do it on my own by my own knowledge and capabilities anyone because nowadays that's only way it'll be done right!! Thank you for making this video. Super useful to me and I'm sure many others!! Kudos ❤
I'm so happy to hear that the video was helpful to you! Empowering yourself to fix things on your own is always the best way. Thanks for your support! ❤
Great ideas and skills! Wonderful. I do not think I have the courage and skill to do repairs like you do, but still I enjoy watching!
what are you ten? it doesnt take courage or skill to use a soldering iron on plastic
Thank you very much!
You pretty much covered everything! Great job It is very important to know many of these tips for people like me who tend to try to DIY everything.
Glad it was helpful!
Super excellent
Great stuff man👍👍 What super glue do you use? I used many in my projects and none of them seems to be as good as yours😂
cyanoacrylate adhesive glue

(Quick question at the end)
This is awesome, I'm only 6 tips in and must comment how brilliant these tips are. I always try and fix broken plastic stuff, and sometimes successfully, but always messy and crude. Having the proper techniques is obviously key, many thanks for these!! Question: what are those metal stickers? They look very useful, would love to get my hands on those!
Those silver sticky pieces are from a roll of Foil Tape, from any hardware store, or harbor freight tools store.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful
Probably should put a disclaimer when you're melting the plastic and the fumes are coming off to at least wear a respirator.
I've been painting for 25 years so I know about these things 😢
Yes, I agree to you. Smoke is very harmful to us
Exelente aportacion.
Hello! thanks for your comment. Wish you all the best!
Thermal is almost always best to retain strength and it can be reinforced,
Solvent based repair using acetone may be ok, buy solvent based glues are usually better
Thank you for sharing your feedback . Have a good day!
We have learned that you can fix nearly everything with soda and super glue 😂
😘😘😘Thank you for watching

Is that 60W soldering iron? 100W? More? Less?
👍 Ya benar sekali, itu soldering iron dengan watt tinggi, sekitar 60 W, 80W atau 100 W, untuk mendapatkan panas yang cukup agar hasilnya bagus untuk melelehkan plastik.

This is one of the most interesting and clever videos on TH-cam
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful
Again THANK YOU!!😊
The type of plastic affects adhesion, you can try super glue and foam
I own a farm and I'm almost 60 and I'm subscribing after watching 2 video! Lots of these things could have made my life so much easier! I'm going to marathon watch today! Thank you!
There's some seriously good stuff in this video so far, and I'm not even halfway in! I like the 'graphite-embedded gear fix', too, since that'll go nicely with the usually low-friction-nylon/ptfe-embedded plastic that the gears are often made of so they don't need oil. I wonder how long it'll last, but for 'buying you enough time to order/craft a replacement', it seems excellent!
Thanks so much for subscribing! I’m glad you found the videos helpful. Enjoy your marathon watching, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need more tips!

"I love simple yet effective tips like these."
Excelentes ideas, muchas gracias por compartirlas. Saludos desde Colombia!!
Greetings from Germany , i like to see how you repair the things 👏🏻 just a question: which adhesive metal foil you used and why this type? ty for your answer 😊
"Heat resistant Tape"
it helps insulate and concentrate heat more
thanks for sharing your very ingenious and creative ways of repairing plastic products. i think these are valuable skills that should be taught in all schools, combining it as part of creativity class with repairing actual stuff makes it so much more fun, practical, sense of achievement and simply just good for our environment with so much less trash
Thank you very much!
WOW!
