Dorne isn't exactly an independent kingdom, but they were never beaten militarily, not even by the Targaryens with their dragons. They only got assimilated to the 7 kingdoms through marriages. That's why their words are "unbowed, unbent, unbroken".

@@60fpsorionll56 If you're referring to the time that Prince Doran sent Oberyn into a fake exile because he was caught sleeping with the wife of one of those lords, then that's really not bending the knee, it's just a diplomacy tactic to prevent escalation of conflict with those lords. If they bent the knee to other houses, they wouldn't be in control of Sunspear now.

2:55 A tiny bit of lore for Dorne because it's never explicitly stated in the show (it might be in History and Lore but I've never really watched them)… Dorne is not an independent kingdom anymore. When they joined the Seven Kingdoms, part of the agreement allowed the former rulers of Dorne, House Martell, to keep their titles of "Prince" or "Princess" (they didn't use king or queen) despite their position/"ranking" in the Seven Kingdoms being equivalent to other high lords like the Starks (North), Lannisters (Westerlands) or Tyrells (Reach).

I think if he grew up in a family away from Gregor and the Lannisters, he could be as honourable as Brienne. It shows how much everything you go through as a child affects you later on, his broke him to the point where he always looks for the worst in everything in this world and expects no kindness.

This is one of my favourite episodes!! The opening of Ice being melted down with the Lannister theme leading straight into the intro is cinematic perfection, the introduction of Oberyn Martell, one of my favourite characters and my favourite casting choice in the entire show - Pedro Pascal is so perfect as Oberyn omgggg - to the ending scene that ties it all together, one Stark sword lost, another Stark sword found, giving us hope that the Stark legacy lives on in Arya. Man, it's so perfect.

"She killed him in the same way"
Yep - and when she killed "her first man" in the last episode, she actually killed him in the same way that she was practicing on the kitchen table in Season one. You know, when they were having a mean and she was stabbing the table and saying "I'm practicing for Joffrey".
Her whole story has been a lesson - from Jon, watching Ser Hugh die at the joust, Syrio, Yoren of the Night's Watch, Jaqen H'gar, Lord Beric Dondarrion, Thoros of Myr, Anguy the archer, and now the Hound.

As you're aware from history and lore and having heard in passing in the early seasons that when King's Landing fell, the Lannister army butchered all the Targaryens and Tywin had the two children of the Crown Prince dragged out of their beds and put to the sword. Now you get to hear that story from the mother's side, Elia Martell of Dorne, who was also killed during the sack of the city. Oberyn is her brother. Pedro Pascal has played some memorable characters in some great shows like Narcos and Mandalorian....this one just might have his most memorable moment.🤐

The Hounds story is one of pain. In the books it is implied he had an older sister that Gregor likley murdered, it doesn't really delve into details, but my guess is this is part of the motivation behind The Hounds sympathy for the Stark girls. Maybe trying to protect them as a way of making mends for not being able to protect his sister. The book He was always seen as a monster from the age of 12 because of his strength and appearance, so he survived by being the monster everyone already took him for. He saw how ruthless the world was, and justified his actions as mere survival. He motivated himself through hating his brother, but the more awful shit he did. And the Hound did some pretty sick shit as Cersie's and then Joffy's dog, he eventually began hating himself more than even his Brother. My guess is that's why in the show he couldn't notice the gods had already punished him. He was to busy punishing himself to notice.

  • @moonfisher

"People love their king." "They know I saved the city, they know I won the war" and Jaime silently replying "the war is not won". That's how the trailer of Season 4 starts and everyone did the CJ from San Andreas "awww shit here we go again" thinking about how Joffrey is going to troll us for another season 😂. Both the OG trailer and the DVD/blueray trailer feat. Hozier are fantastic. A very uncanny feel to them. The Hozier trailer might be my favorite GoT trailer. Fitting for the GOAT season.

The cold open itself tells a great story. We see the Blacksmith making the two swords from Ned's sword Ice as the slow and mournful Stark theme plays, which picks up pace and transforms into the Lannister theme as it cuts to Tywin sinisterly putting a symbolic nail on the Stark coffin by throwing the wolf carcass into the fire. And yup I know that's not how swords are actually forged, but the scene is aesthetically awesome. Jaime...the one man in Westeros who can say no to Tywin's face and live to tell the tale. The favorite son. Very different vibe from Tyrion's talk with Tywin at the beginning of last season.

Its not a question if Margagery care about renly or not. Brienne was been reckless by saying "i will avenge our king!" They were in the capital, full of spies, and if someone listen and tells. Margaery and Brienne would be in danger. Because brienne basically sayed that renly was her king and not Joffrey! brienne was siding up with a traitor! Not only that, she pushed Margaery into the same category. Margaery was just make sure, that Joffrey is the king!

Like you mentioned, The Hound is not truly bad. He is a survivor. He killed the butcher's son because he had orders from King Robert, and he was loyal to Robert. When he intervened to defend Loras from The Mountain at the Jousting tournament, he knelt immediately when Robert ordered them to stop fighting. He is loyal and has a good heart. Robert Baratheon earned The Hound's loyalty. Joffrey didn't, so f the king.

I don’t think The Hound served Joffrey as much as the Lannisters. Cersei or Joffrey ordered him to kill the butchers boy. He knelt for Robert during the tourney because he was in a public place and knows who is the king there

      @l00d3r 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@EmBlanca Even though his house was subject to the Lannisters, he was a member of the King's Guard and Robert had earned his loyalty. If you look at the scene of his fight against his brother, you can see he put his life at risk to obey Robert as soon as he commanded them to halt, while The Mountain didn't and took a swing at The Hound at that very moment.

The guy who played Daario got an opportunity to Reboot the "Transporter" Franchise, so they went and got Tatiana Maslany's boyfriends from Orphan Black to replace him. Compare to the book version, both Daario are pretty vanilla.

Aria got a horse too! I heard they recast ol' Nario Daharis because he wasn't a hit with the ladies, something about an 80s rock look, I dunno...
But hey, each to their own! 😉😁

Great video! You always notice so much detail, and make such great reactions and analysis. That detail you mentioned about Sansa. She does pretend to pray while Jaime and Brienne are talking, and she stops right after, when she thinks she's alone. I never noticed that before! Also, The Hound got more aggressive and provocative after Polliver mentioned wanting his group to rape Arya. Up to that moment, the Hound was calmly talking, but after that, he stole Polliver's beer. That was an invitation to what followed. As for Arya, she is indeed becoming terrible. The lines she tells Polliver as she kills him are exactly what he said when he killed her friend and took her sword. Arya is spending time near, and learning from, the deadliest of men, first Jaqen, then Tywin, now the Hound. She's emulating the best, but also, it's all very dark. She is not a child anymore. It's indeed quite sad but in a way, she has more chances to survive thanks to it.

If you think about it, Arya always wanted to be a fighter, like her father and brothers, especially Jon. She slipped away from learning the boring girl stuff to watch her brothers training and practicing, and then obviously found time to practice herself, or she wouldn't have been as good with a bow as she was in the first episode. I have no doubt that she heard her father and brothers talking about how being a fighter meant killing others, so she already knew that when Syrio began telling her about the God of Death.
Ever since her father was murdered, Arya has seen a LOT of people die in a lot of terrible ways, and I'm sure that after seeing Rob's body and knowing that he and her mother were murdered too, Arya has figured out that if she is going to survive she's going to have to kill people. That guy killed her friend and stole her sword, and killing for revenge is a lot easier to do. So Arya very coldly and deliberately killed the guy, and I'm sure there are a lot of other people she would like to kill for revenge - in fact, I believe she's already started a list of names and she's being cared for by a stone cold killer who will probably demonstrate more ways to kill. She's not the innocent child we all loved in season 1 anymore.

One of my favourite rewatch episode. Pretty much S3Ep10 and this one. Nothing epic in terms of other things that happen in the series, but for me, it's more about the aftermath of the red wedding. can't wait for the next episode!🥂
Keep up the excellent work 🤩

Even if Jaime is not technically ambitious, when he was looking at the book, I can tell you things like this matter to him, to be in the honor book of the King's Guard. As a kid he dreamed of being the greatest knight. And he would love to be regarded in this way. That's why being called "Kingslayer" has been eating him up inside. Now not only cause of how Tywin put his ambitions on Jaime but I choose to believe that Jaime was closer in personality to his dead wife and that's why I think Tywin has more affection for him.

I LOVE intimidation scenes And I don't think any show does them better than Game of Thrones. This episode has 2 great ones in it one of them is my favorite.
The 1st one is oberyn In little fingers brothel with the lannister soldier.
The other one and the 1 that is my favorite is the hound talking to Polivar about chickens. I also love that at 1 point in the fight the hound just punches every single one of those guys in the face. He got all of them at least once and every time They are down for the count. 2 of them started to get up but Arya killed them.

Just found your channel today and really, really enjoyed it! I was very upset when I saw Ned's sword destroyed, too. The Starks had it for centuries! (BTW, don't you know that wolf skin STUNK when it burnt! 🤢). The new Daario came on board when the first left to play Frances/Ajax in "Deadpool". This Daario went on to do "The Haunting of Hill House" after GOT. Prince Oberyn also plays "The Mandalorian".
I know I'm going to enjoy catching up to where you are and I've subscribed. 😊

Welcome to the best season of the show!!
His name is Oberyn, but everyone calls him the Red Viper. Why? For one, it's a badass name, fitting for a badass dude. For another, it's rumored that when he was 16, he fought and killed a challenger by using a poison-tipped blade. In Westeros, it's said that poison is a woman's weapon, but Oberyn has found a way to make it work for himself just as well.
Should watch the Season 4 trailer. It’s the best GoT preview!

One of the numerous reasons I love ASOIAF is the theme of revenge. GRRM may allow a character to get their vengeance, but it comes at a price to their humanity. Our little sweet Arya is turning into a psycho.
As for Jaime and Casterly Rock, here's what his favourite Aunt Genna, Tywin's younger sister, married to Ser Eamonn Frey, has to say on the matter (not a spoiler): Speaking to Jaime - "You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg, and there's some Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak...but Tyrion is Tywin's son, not you.
I said so once to your father's face and he would not speak to me for half a year. Men are such thundering great fools. Even the sort who come along once in a thousand years."
