The most tragic part is what Ned tells Jon. "When I return, we'll talk about your mother." He so desperately wanted to tell Jon the truth about his mother, Ned's sister. He loved Jon like he was his own to the point where it agonized him not to have him know the truth. It's sad that it took so many years for that truth to be revealed to Jon.

That brings back what Ned said in the 1st episode when he parted with Jon: "Next time we meet I'll tell you all about your mother!", that's because Ned didn't spend some nights or a short while as one would expect with that woman during the war, he spent his whole life, because he was talking about his own sister that he knew very well, so he can tell all about her. Makes sense if you think about it.

It's funny how obvious it is in hindsight. The trick was to state it as a fact before we really got to know Ned, when we don't know his character well enough to question it, and there is no obvious reason to lie about it. We are much more likely to question information we get later, especially if it goes against something we already believe.
I wish the show had done a better job explaining the R/L relationship before the reveal though, those who hadn't read the books or heard the theory all seemed to be confused, unsure of who the father is. It even took Sofie a while to figure out. So much context missing, no mention of the prophecy. This was the biggest twist in the books(most likely), and they did a pretty bad job of it

She never tortured innocents, gave win win solutions to those who deserved it whilst gaining power, and she fought of evilness and ruthlessness with kindness and politeness and I really liked that about her. She definitely had a heart when it came to her family and everything she did this season was for her family and house’s safety. It was a shock to anyone who knew Ned that he had supposedly fathered a bastard child.. the fact is that Rhaegar died fighting without his men by his side, instead they were guarding Lyanna at the Tower.. that was a big giveaway that R+L=J 🙌 so at this point we know that Lyanna is Jon's mum and she made her brother promise to keep it secret, because as we also know Robert was in love with Lyanna himself & would have killed her baby if he found out the truth that he was Rhaegar's son. 😌 Loving all your reactions, can't wait to see more! ✨

It didn't take Reddit to figure it out. I read A Game of Thrones for the first time in 2004, and I grew suspicious the first time they said his mom was a secret. In story telling, that's like putting flashing lights around this "mystery."
I started to suspect Lyanna fairly early in the book, but was convinced when Ned was having hallucinations about her saying "Promise me, Ned," while he was imprisoned in KL.
It's even more fun to look for clues on re-reads. My absolute favorite is during the Royal visit to Winter, in the scene when Arya sneaks out of her lessons to watch the boys spar in the training yard. She finds Jon sitting on a wall watching Robb fight Joffrey. Arya asks why he isn't down there, and Jon answers, "Bastards are not allowed to damage young princes." In Tyrion and Dany scene, it was a nice follow up on “it’s hard to be a cynic after that.”

No one keeps a secret like Ned Stark. As others have said, there's several hints that Ned's story wasn't quite right. I think it's all the way back in the second episode that Robert asks Ned about the woman he had Jon with and Ned refuses to talk about it with him. One of my favorites is Stannis and his wife talking about Jon at Castleblack. She dismisses Jon as just a bastard but Stannis is skeptical. He says of Ned cheating on his wife "Perhaps. But that wasn't Ned Stark's way." We never get a scene of Ned and Stannis together but I love that Stannis knows Ned so well and sees it in Jon.

Lieana was ‘stolen’ by Raegar Targaryen. Jon is the son of the true heir of the royal house. Robert is wanted every Targaryen dead. If you remember the first fight Ned had with Robert was about Robert wanting to ‘kill a child’ because of who her parent’s were.
Ned lied to his whole family, his wife, about cheating on her within weeks of them marrying to keep his nephew safe. I *think* uncle Benjen knew, and that was part of why he wanted Jon out of sight on the wall. Even the high king can’t call for the death of a man of the night’s watch.
And Eamon told Jon about his family, his painful choices, how Targaryen’s never did well alone, that they need each other.

This is where I'm at in the show as well. This was my favorite episode of the entire show so far and I think that Jon Snow reveal is my all time favorite moment. I didn't think they'd top last episode but they did. No scene was wasted.

@@Al-ji4gd...is what a MORON would think, and that's what you clearly are as well as a TROLL. Thinking you're edgy with your contrarian act. Pathetic!

You are the best reactor to GoT, Sofie (so sensitive, humorous and smart), together with the great guys of Bust! Reacts. Regarding the episode, it is the best finale and one of the two or three best of GoT and television history.
