One thing I wish we’d had more of are these sad moments where you can tell that Dany is just searching for a sense of belonging and to be loved. She’s always been on the outside looking in, and as you pointed out she kind of thinks finding “devoted” followers is how to get what she wants, but as they say, “Heavy is the head who wears the crown.” When you have that much power, there’s still a disconnect in relationship between you and your people. It’s not the more equitable, loving relationships she seems to envy between the Starks and their allies. Jorah, Tyrion, Missandei and Grey Worm are the closest thing she’s got to that but they are all such outsiders in this place.

Dany was brought up being told that when she (and her brother) returned to Westoros the 'people' would cheer and show them devotion and admiration - she believed it. However now she sees the truth, that she has now right to expect any of this from the people of Westeros - she hasn't earnt the right, and the Targaryens have no True historical or familial connection to the peoples of Westeros, not matter how many of hundreds of years they were there they were always outsiders, conquerors and foreigners. The 'people' of Westeros follow their own leaders and historical connections, and will always do so. To rule Westeros, Dany must share power with the houses of Westeros, as they have the true power over the people. This is not what she's used to, or expecting, or wanting. However if she doesn't then her rule will always be challenged or undermined by others.......and then she finds out that Jon Snow not only is the rightful heir through Targaryen heritage, but also has the blood of the North and so IS connected to the people. He has BOTH the Targaryen right and the right of Westeros to rule and be followed.

Jaime knights Brienne with Widow's Wail, while she has Oathkeeper with her. It's the symbolic coming together of the Two Swords Tywin re-forged from Ned Stark's sword Ice. Where else but in Winterfell. With the knighting it's like Ice is whole once again. That was a nice touch, dare I say. The first time Jaime saw Brienne was as a prisoner, during that heated "Kingslayer? What a King he was!" back and forth with Catelyn which revolved around questions of forsaken vows, honor and knighthood. Now that conversation is complete.

With all the nods and callbacks this episode is basically a hour long homage to the throwback moments of the show. It's like a farewell tour. I vaguely remembered it for being slow, but on rewatches I've grown fond of this episode for the way it builds up anticipation and gets me sad and nostalgic for the incredible journey we've had. It tugged the heartstrings much better than what I initially remembered. Pod's Jenny of Oldstones sets the mood for The Night Before Winter.

12:45 that may be jealousy. But I'm more convinced Denaerys is confused about Sansa. She's probably asking herself how the same Sansa (who was so harsh and resentful towards her) can also be so lovely and emotional towards Theon. Denaerys is so used to be warshipped and admired that she has became completely uncapable to understand, even conceive, how someone who doesn't like her could exist.
13:30 Thormund is THE BEST. Now and forever.
Anyways, I think their plan is stupid, but it's a conversation for the next episode. I also really like Beric Dondarrion; I know it's a marginal character in the show, but he deserves more love. But the real protagonist of this episode is, of course, Brienne. What a moving scene... I cried the first time I watched it.

That heart warming moment when Theon goes to embrace our Lady of Winterfell, Dany in the background looking envious af. Well she gotta realize you can't build those connections by fear and intimidation. The Dragon Queen ain't got no support system like that lol. Ok not gonna lie. I usually hate on Emilia but the range she manages to capture in her facial expressions during the Jon reveal scene is nothing short of incredible. If you zone in on her face all through that scene it's another one of those beautiful close up shots of an actor giving it all they've got. Since spoilers are open now, Dany's reaction to Jon telling her that he was Aegon was immediate concern about how that affected her personally instead of understanding the story about her brother. It's a big deal of course, but she repelled away instantly at the name because she felt threatened. Her entire identity was formed around being the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. She was always bloodthirsty and reactionary, but this is when she cracked.

Daenerys needs to make Sasha understand that the best way forward (for the north who declared independence twice and are literally willing to die for it) is for the north to go back under the Iron Throne? The north went to war because the MAD King killed his prisoners, burned one alive, Dany isn’t her father, but she Literally burned alive her prisoners and extinguished a Noble house because they wouldn’t surrender to a FOREIGN INVADER at the head of a HORDE OF DOTHRAKI KNOWN FOR BUTCHERING MEN AND VIOLATING WOMEN, and a Stolen Slave army. Danny’s biggest Allies were Ellaria and the Sand Snakes (kinslayers), House Tyrell (slimy opportunists that boosted the Lannisters power when Robb had them on the ropes), and Yara and Theon Greyjoy (Lady Pirate and Turncoat Oathbreaker). Then there is Jorah, a Slaver. If you are an average northerner, who believes oath breaking and pirating and kinslaying are dishonorable and punishable, and who hates the south, and your father and/or brother died for independence, why would you want to live under a foreign woman who burns people alive?

    Story about the song..
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Jenny of Oldstones was a poor woman who won the heart of Prince Duncan Targaryen and married him against the wishes of his father, King Aegon V Targaryen, due to the fact that he was already betrothed to the daughter of Lord Lyonel Baratheon. Aegon attempted to have the marriage undone, but Duncan refused to leave Jenny and gave up his right to the throne.
Lyonel was so enraged at the offense, however, of the Targaryens breaking the promised marriage betrothal, that the Stormlands rose up in a brief but bloody rebellion, culminating in an epic trial by combat between Lord Lyonel and his old friend Ser Duncan the Tall, now Aegon V's Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
She was the inspiration for many songs, which famously remember her "with flowers in her hair". Jenny was a very popular romantic figure in later songs for many a young maiden (like Sansa Stark): Jenny, the commoner girl for whom the heir to the Iron Throne gave up his inheritance out of love.

Most people miss it but they totally solve the mystery of Podrick Payne in this episode. It's hard to figure it out because the answer is buried under emotion when they tell us.
Pod did not have to pay those women because......he sang to them of course! He said he did "lots of things" to them. Singing is a thing someone might do. We blow by that because all of us are terrified.

I sometimes think the show should have ended here. Do we need to know how the war ends, if they even survive? Here are our heroes at their highest, their noblest. Here we see all of them as their best selves. If storytelling is about the revelation of character, what more do we need to see?

"The Dead are coming! Quick! Hide the people who can't fight in the Crypt!" RIP logic and common sense.
This is probably the best of the season, but it's still riddled with nonesense and humour that's almost alien to the first 4 seasons.
I do like Brienne being Knighted, but I agree with Pitch Meetings when it comes to Arya and Gendry.

@@bbwng54 and the reason people ask this question is that they still see them as a child although more than 7 years has passed, and that's ALOS because she's so short (and because people are no good at math)
When Sansa was raped by Ramsy she was youger than how Arya is now, but people didn't think about her age because raping was portraiyed as a bad act perpetuated by a bad person, and so it wasn't at odd with people feeling: people felt is as a bad thing and the show portraited it as the bad thing it was, but HOW DARE they show that a young girl can have a consensual intercourse HOW dare they portrait it as a good thing? this was definitely at odd with people's feeling. But of corse the showrunner did think it trough, and that's why it didn't happen until Arya was 18.
It's ludicrous that certain people even went to look at how old was the actress, since the intercoure wasn't actually on screen.

I really hate when Dany tells Sansa that she's in Winterfell "fighting Jon's war". Firstly it's not Jon's war, it's everyone's war... the war for humanity. I also hate that she's lying about her motivation for being there. She pledged herself and her army to Jon after the Night King killed her dragon. She wanted vengeance for the killing of her "child". And she's been manipulating Jon ever since. Sansa is right to be distrustful of her.

I won't tell you how the plot will continue, but according to millions of people around the world, this was the last good episode of this whole amazing saga! I love every single second of this fantastic episode! And I hate every single second of the other episodes of this season 8! 😨The two writers who betrayed millions of fans wrote season 8 stupidly and it was a big bad shock for the whole community! The two of them betrayed us all and I will never forgive them for this! All the beautiful characters in this TVseries were trampled to dust by two fools in the 8th season! A shame!

Two writers ruined years of the series in a few episodes just because they wanted to go work for Disney on Star Wars movies and make a lot of money! It was a big disappointment for the fans who have loved this wonderful series for many years!

    Another AMAZING EPISODE!
I love when the show focuses on relationships. It was the calm before the storm, so it was nice to see some loose ends tied up.
So glad that Brienne stood up for Jaime and then Sansa stood up for Brienne to keep Jamie in Winterfell. So glad that Jaime is fighting for the right side finally. I am glad that Bran and Jaime finally had that scene together too, even though Bran isn't quite the same. It went basically how I expected. Regardless, I am glad that Jaime apologized.
Jorah had a great episode! Reconnecting with his family via Lyanna. Standing up for Tyrion. Having the heart to heart with Dany. Sansa/Dany were so tense and Sansa basically admitting she is not going to bend the knee for Dany.. yikes.
THEON AND FREAKING SANSA, I CANNOT. MY HEART CANT TAKE THEM. I screamed when he arrived. I almost died when Sansa saw him. When he asked if he could fight for her? sfsfsdfsdfsdf. And their hug!!! Their freaking hug. OMG. He desperately needed that and they went through so much together. I love his storyline arc, he had a great one. And by defending Bran, he is earning back the respect of the audience that he lost along the way. I love it. I did love the little moment between Theon and Sansa at the end of the episode too, just smiling at each other and talking. In my head they talked all night long.
The Jamie/Brienne moments in the episode were so great! I loved when they had that funny talk outside about how nice he was being . When he knighted her later? MY HEART. Brienne was so happy and they were looking at each other so fondly. Such a great moment. All those scenes with the group in the room drinking and singing (Go Podrick!) were so cute. Loved Davos chilling there with them. Tyrion had some funny lines too and omg Tormund is SO funny. His giant story was awesome. Also his "F tradition" was so adorable. I also loved the moments between Tyrion and Jamie. Interesting that Cersei was not in this episode at all, that was nice. I want a bit more of Varys but I know its hard to juggle all this screen time.
Sam was phenomenal this episode. Loved his little speeches. I also really enjoyed the Hound and Arya scene, it was a long time coming and so them. I love when the Hound said he defended her. So cute. GENDY AND FREAKING ARYA!!!! MY HEART. FINALLY. Damn. I loved all their scenes. He made that weapon for her! She confronted him about the red women. She kissed him, they had sex yassssss!!!! That scene was adorable. YAY.
Glad that Jon told Dany the truth, though I didn't really see the point in it right now, especially if Jon doesn't even want the throne. Why make things more difficult for everyone? I felt bad for Dany, she's been wanting this forever and now it can be taken away just because he's a man. I'd rather see Dany on the throne, but at this point I was thinking either of them were too predictable. My money was on Sansa.
That ending was scary AF! So many amazing moments and pay offs in this episode. Loving how things are coming full circle and the callbacks to past scenes.

As much as I understand Sansa's distrust of Dany...I kinda wished they had bonded a little. Sansa has had so little in the way of female companionship and comradery. She had Margery for awhile, and Arya isn't exactly chatty. Sansa and Dany have had a very similar journey in a lot of ways, and I just feel like they could have been such a power duo if they got along.

I'm glad that you loved this episode, as I loved it too. It truly is one of the best GOT episodes for me. I just loved the interactions here. Alfie Allen did a great acting job in the show, a big reason why he stands out. What you said in the beginning was a great observation, something that I didn't think of myself, no matter how many times I've watched the show. Tyrion did a great job as being the Hand in King's Landing, he didn't do too well being the Hand for Dani. I use to think of it more like, being smart on things doesn't necessarily mean you have a monopoly on strategy, sort of like coaches who win the Super Bowl, they appear smart, but the next year they just don't do as well, most of the time. Even though Tyrion made a bad move in Mereen with the slavers, most of his other bad moves were indeed against his own family. Maybe he couldn't be as ruthless in strategy against his own family, I think it's more a coincidence that came into play, but what you said is definitely enough to have a debate over. I've come to enjoy your videos very much. What I like best of all is that you don't address in your videos some of the negativity in the comments about the ladder seasons. You're being true to the show & yourself. BRAVO!

This may just me my perspective but when Sansa and Daenerys are speaking and Dany is making her points, and Sansa’s stops (right around where you said “she has a good point”) but I believe as soon as Dany said “tell me who manipulated whom”, she realized it was pointless speaking with her because she sees past it and changes the subject with the slight chuckle/the north question..I see Sansa seeing right thru her as she speaks what she may have correctly perceived as Dany’s own self-delusion at worst, or dishonesty at best. I don’t believe she’s believing her at all; she’s just aware of the situation.
