    SUGGESTIONS: I think that you should have a long narrow window installed on both sides, say about 12-14 inches high and about 3 to 4 feet long, with a screen in it so that you can see outside and ventilate all at the same time. Windows that are not wide enough for people to get into, even if they break it, but big enough for you to sit up in bed on a rainy or snowy day to see out. Leaving your door open for ventilation is dangerous, especially since you don't know who or what could be outside. You should always lock your doors as you're heading in, and not as an afterthought. You really don't know who or what could be lurking nearby. You should always have a clear path from the back to the front, without getting out to drive or go to sleep. I saw where this lady had security cameras installed outside her van. You can get one that you can look at on a monitor that stays up or on your computer...and phone. If someone knocks, you can see. You can also see before you open the door. You can paint part of your vehicle a lighter color inside to brighten things up a bit...something light and soft on the eyes, at least in your sitting/sleeping and kitchen areas (around the walls). Just be careful out there. There will be people who would target you alone, just to get the vehicle. People aren't as nice and trustworthy as they used to be. I can't stress it enough, you need a clip-on bear spray canister that should be on your hip, every time that door opens and a small weapon on your person or in your vehicle...both when you're out walking. There will be nothing you'll be able to do to defend yourself if you get caught out alone and in trouble. Protect yourself. Love the build.

    The buddy heater is causing the excess condensation, when propane reacts with oxygen during combustion it creates moisture, raising the humidity inside. It then condenses on the cold metal surfaces. Congrats on your first night, your rig is awesome, looking forward to your future adventures!

      @daddybob6096 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Don Wilder. Well explained Don, you beat me to it. LoL.A small window open will help to stop the condensation. Also, those gas heaters can be dangerous in that they burn up the oxygen. Bob. New Zealand..

      @WayneStLouis-cy4ln ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Nice try guys on the condensation explanation. But it's a lot simpler than that. She turned it off to sleep. The condensation is caused by exhaling warm air while sleeping, and it condenses on surfaces, just like in a tent. The turned off heater had no effect.

    Great to see you and Blue in the new rig!
    Few tips:
    -never use Mr. Buddy while sleeping. Dangerous for a few reasons.
    All the people you see using them do it while awake only.
    -ALWAYS crack a window with the heater running for carbon monoxide safety AND condensation
    -your breath causes cause condensation as well so a window always cracked for airflow will help.
    You don't want mold.
    -heat rises, so putting the heater on the floor helps better warm the space. Just make sure you have appropriate space around it.
    -heated 12V blanket to warm the bed.
    Can't wait to see adventures to come:)

    • @nn3514
      @nn3514 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cracking a window is not enough. Before it sets of CO alarm, buddy will shut off for lack of oxygen. Reason I got a webasto.. I saw you put your alarm in the cupboard and bury it in stuff. Probably you want to mount that outside of the cupboard.

  • @scotttan6377

    I also vote for a rooftop vent with a fan to help lessen the condensation during the cold and heat and humidity during high heat. Having desiccant packs may help too.

      Was watching a youtuber converting their box truck to a camper. They added windows and a rooftop fan. One needs to consider doing this for those hot Summer days and to help cool at night. Good idea to ventilate when one cooks with propane or natural gas.

    Yaaa!!! Congrats!!! I couldn’t tell if you had a window cracked open while using the buddy heater but it’s a good idea. I believe that’s what is causing the condensation too. You won’t have that with the diesel heater. You might hang a curtain separating the cab from the back, helping with keeping you warm as well as some privacy. Looking forward to your next adventure!!

  • @bluedeva
    @bluedeva ปีที่แล้ว +16

    LED strip lights along the ceiling beams will look good. You can also get the silicagel condensation traps and keep them in the storage areas to help cut down condensation Congratulations on your new rig, bring on all adventures your,blue and po will have 🥳

  • @chadkessinger9352
    @chadkessinger9352 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I would recommend looking into a diesel heater system as opposed to having the heating element inside the cab. It should cut down on condensation as all you will be getting is hot air inside, the actually heater would be mounted outside. Also what other people have mentioned, some ventilation would be a good idea regardless of the heater. A small electric heater (maybe 500 watts) could be a good option for the interim but its going to kill your battery fast if you leave it on for long periods. Other than that the rig looks awesome, congratulations:)

    • @nn3514
      @nn3514 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are going electric, an electric blanket will be a more efficient use of your power supply. I agree on the vehicle fuel-based heater as best option.

    Have you checked the turn signal mechs inside the steering wheel shaft? If the landing screw mounting the signal lever wears thru the connector insulation the lever feels firm but the wires are exposed and will short when driving vibrates then into contact. Most common if popping multiple fused at once.

    Hi Maria, the Buddy Heater is pretty cool and you can use it all night in the truck as long as there is ventilation. Also even if the heater falls over it has a built in cut off mechanism and will turn itself off. I have used Mr. Buddy in 17 degree weather in camping in Colorado in my tent and had no issues. You should be ok in your Defender! Cheers and great channel!!

  • @alicia_anny
    @alicia_anny ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Definitely worried a bit about the condensation. Just worrying you might be creating an environment for mold. I vote on placing windows on the sleeping side of your rig. Yeah it may compromise the look of poe but I think you’ll like them in the long run. I also think you should consider getting a roof fan so that when you are cooking inside you can vent the moisture outside.

    Condensation ..that is why you need to get the diesel heater hooked up..
    When my wife and I started out in a small 'CampInn' teardrop trailer.. that we had built to our full-time road life.
    Our first night in Neesdah Wisconsin camp on the teardrop builders property was so nice! We researched the heating situation/system. We chose a very small vehicle 12volt defroster/heater for warmer for the teardrop. It took only a short time running about 5 minutes when we are ready to sleep. Upon waking, we just used it for 5 minutes, again, to warm us up enough to get our "butts in gear". The first night was dry & comfy with temps outside in the low-teens.
    Power consumption was barely noticeable, still, 12.6 volts on our new deep cycle AGM battery.
    The truck's 7pin plug was enough to bring the battery back
    to 14.1volts.
    Happy trails & Be safe!

    Okay so unplug the switch, if it’s the turn signal. And see if it blows. If the fuse doesn’t blow over night then the problem is the switch. Or get him to use a multimeter (one that beeps) if he’s by himself and start moving wires around the truck from the switch to each individual circuits

    It’s awesome to see your excitement and hilarious to see Blues expressions (sitting in the drivers seat and the look he had when the buddy heater was on 😂). Almost like him saying “mom really, what the hell are you thinking”… 😂😂😂😂 I literally almost pissed myself.

    Loved it! The new rig is awesome and I'm excited for your future adventures. Loved your mom at the end and I'm sure she loved that you left the whole thing in unedited lol.

    Figuring out new gadgets goes hand in hand with camping! ...and that cheesy smile when you're doing this is hilarious! Cracks me up! I LOVE that your Dad and/or brother are a phone call away! You're way braver than me! While I realize It's so peaceful and beautiful out off the grid, I tend to self sabotage myself by being so hyper sensitive to every sound...haha!

    It’s suppose to flame up that’s how it heats up the ceramic block that provides the heat. Once it’s heated the flame dies down and the ceramic glows red it’s perfectly safe.

    Electrical gremlins are 100% common with this era car.
    Run all new wires or checking continuity for all existing wires.
    Basically - check all the wiring

    So awesome to see u back out there in the new rig! U are definitely gonna need some sort of ventilation to eliminate all the condensation otherwise mold could become an issue
