Just so you know, I've been living vicariously through your videos since I stumbled on them. I've seen teary eyes & smiles, laughter & sleepless nights. You have such a resilient character, so I'll say this, "Expectations are future resentments". There are no bad decisions, only lack of options, you got this, you got this...

I appreciate the honesty. I heard this young girl who had been on the road for a year or two say "Vanlife is just regular life. You're just doing it in a van." That's truth. And I've spent a decade in therapy to learn how to cry, connect with my feelings, speak my truth, and freaking whine sometimes because being strong all the time was detrimental to my mental and emotional health. I don't live in self-pity but I definitely have a right to say "this is hard and it sucks." Once I get all the crap out of my mind and spirit, then I can fill myself up with love, light, and the solution.
You have the same right. Word vomit and when you're all empty, you'll fill better because you were heard, validated, and not just left to struggle alone (at least that's my truth.) We're here for you!

I had a 5 speed Toyota with 190k miles when I had transmission trouble. I took it to a really great shop that I researched and this one was 5 stars. They dropped it, did a troubleshoot exam and found it need a $147 part. I however asked them if the rest was as you referred yours as, a ticking time bomb, and was told with the seals, bearings and this part, I could get another 197k miles out of it. I changed the oil and filter every 3k miles, flushed the coolant every 2 years, did preventive maintenance and it lasted until 447k miles when a car crossed the center line and totaled it. If you take are of the rest of the car, it's a Subaru, they and Toyota's run forever, you could have many years and miles left on "ru".

    • @roamingreckless
      @roamingreckless  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Fair enough! Ru is sortve an “anti-subie” subie. 6 weeks after I bought him the clutch went out, 2-3 months later the engine went out. The clutch failed again after. He’s sortve always just to been a problem child. My family wanted me to look into lemon law for a while. That’s why I don’t really trust him all that much if I were to replace the transmission. But I agree with you about Toyotas!

There is no black or white answer, for anything we do in life. There’s only weighing out the odds, such as making a pro’s & con’s list, and then working with what you’ve got.
You can do this. You’ve got the smarts, or you wouldn’t have lasted out there this long. Make a decision and roll with it👍👍

I’m on night 45 of car life. It’s not on purpose. I’m being divorced, been told to leave my home. For awhile, I still have to pay for everything for my family, and I have no where to go , and not enough money right now to rent. I have had to literally you tube on how to live in a car. I was nervous at first, but I have it down to a routine, and most of the time it’s ok. But just like the topic of this video, it can be really awkward sometimes . But I do get a really good feeling that I’ve been put in a jam, but I’m overcoming it . I was looking at sites about car life, and yours is my favorite.

I'm a bit behind with watching but in case you still read this, I feel you. It's so hard to explain that feeling to people who haven't experienced the situation. They might be like, this is just your car, it will solve itself, when actually you are loosing your entire home. For most people this would be as if their house gets flooded or burned down. Of course it's not as expensive as a new house but re-arranging your life completely, maybe being homeless for a bit while building the next rig, it's stressful! Thanks for sharing that part, it's so important not to sugarcoat the lifestyle. And it certainly didn't feel like you were complaining. But you are entitled to your feelings. And honestly, I was sobbing for days when I was stranded with my van and two cats and didn't know how to solve the situation... So you keep up pretty well, even if it is just for the camera. I hope you have found a solution by now, not going to spoil it for me, hehe. I'll keep on binge watching until we meet in real time again. 😀

the green zones on this coast are for sure kinda land locked, the open areas are so hot right now and anything with a forest area is so tight its stealth camping, there are some zones but like your saying with a transmission issue going far out is iffy, unless you had a small caravan to roll with.always good to have back up but I know your a loner by choice. I get it .the heat is going to last a while ,and its crowded as heck ,but then all the people just kinda disappear in fall and the coast and coastal ranges get way more empty, like unbelievable difference between now and end of tourist season. august will be the fire season like yer dad said, lol, i'm long time west coast kid, and I can assure you it can be frustrating out here even without being a creator and living full time with your in the car, a well traveled car no less. the reason I watch your adventure is because its realistic, its full of big dreams but not easy solutions, thats real, thats something I think we can all identify with. you the real deal. remember to ask your viewers for help or support if you need it, you'r doing a lot alone. and doing a good job!!

I think living in a car videos need to be real. Unlike many videos that glorify vanlife. Seeing the frustration and daily life challenge. I went solo car camping recently but I was going to stay at a friend’s property. And she started backing out the night before my 1000+ mile trip. Ended up staying with another friend (I was lucky) but it was stressful to figure out where to stay at night. It’s not as easy as people think. Plans change. People back out of plans. Etc. you are definitely at a crossroad with your car. You need to be realistic. After your fix your transmission, is there anything else about to fail? You already know about the brakes. So it’s not just the transmission and done. You live in your car. You want to travel. At some point you have to see if your vehicle can make it or is now really a drive once in a while old vehicle.

I car camped in my tiny Cheverlot Spark, a 11 year old car, I had it for 6 years, spent a lot of money with it with regards to repairs, that nearly came to the value of what I paid for the bloody car. I was really attached to my Chevy and tried to hold on to it, as a lot of good memories were linked to it and it was the car I bought when my mum was alive. I let the car go and was pleased to let it go although was initially anxious. It wasn't planned my next car purchase at the time, I upgraded my car, last month, you could say the stars alined, but I had thought about upgrading and talked about it long enough, it was time for action, although that meant money. My advice would be to just do it now before Rue dies on you. My Cheverlot Spark was on it's last legs. Repair after repair. I sold it as is. Then found out the clutch went on the new owner, shortly after, truth be said glad It didn't go on me and it was no longer my problem. Just upgrade if you can instead of waiting for another repair bill or worse. My upgrade was long overdue due to my attachment. It was my first car I had car camped in with stories attached as to how that came about. But sometimes you got to let it go. My upgrade car is great for camping, big space to work with now and I am playing around with my no build, it is crazy to think I have so much space in comparison to my old car. I part-time camp around work for my mental well-being. Love it. I didn't go for a Van as for me the practicality was not there with wanting to go sleath and also petrol mileage. My cousin is buying me a tailgate attachment a belated b.day gift, to create more space for me on my travels. I hope you get your next rig soon. Stay blessed and safe. Take the plunge and get your next rig, your in your safety zone with Rue, I do it get as I am learning stuff with my car, it isn't completely new but more advance then my simple Cheverlot Spark, go for it change is good, spend the money on a new used car not on Rue. 🇬🇧 solo female car camper

If you live in your car or not, we all face 'the decision ' when to let go. Better than the other 'decision ' My dog is getting older & with both of my other dogs I've had as an adult I've also had to make the 'decision. ' I was just discussing this earlier today before seeing your video. It's easier to get a car when you already have one that's running than waiting until it dies and then your stuck. What's your rescue plan if it happens now? Is it worth it to put more $ into Ru?

I used to live in my 1991 Honda Accord for quite some times. I think I might have to live in my car again (this time is my Toyota S ), some time between Sept./Oct. I have to start to get ready !!! I think I better live by myself even in a jungle or in a car rather than share a room in someone's house. I love to have freedom of my own because I am a type of person that I don't like to obey the other's rule and demand or control. I do not like to be forced to do something that other people want me to do. I am willing to do something only if I feel like it or if you ask me nicely, not in a demanding way.

Inventory is low still at this time.Unfortunately soaring used car prices are outrageous. So if you could hold out that would be better. And new cars are so expensive. If it's not too expensive and it does go you could figure out what the cost of that repair would be versus a car payment every month. Also outweigh if there's any other issues or if you already know what you've replaced it could last quite a bit longer if the transmission is all you need to repair.

I have an idea for the new rig. Permit me to lay it out to you all and Maria. Ok so have you all heard of the 80/20 rule? In the example of a gas tank in a car 20% of the gas is what makes the car move. The other 80% is needed to get the good 20%. So what I’m saying here is Maria currently has 21,600 subscriber’s as of today. She is growing so fast tomorrow is another number but just as an example, 21,600 times 20% is 4,320 subscribers and if we all agree to send to $20 to an account not Gofund me where they will take a certain percentage but to a type of Venmo or something like that where all proceeds will go directly into an account she will have enough to buy whatever she wants and brand new if she wants. So 4,320 x $20 is $86,400. It’s going to be hard for Maria to say yes to this. But we were made to encourage and lift each other. No man is an island. I’m definitely in. I love her content and see a very bright future for her. God bless and protect her and Blue❤

Let's say you're out in the middle of nowhere, because you didn't let fear drive your bus...Ru decides to poop out...you're gonna take what's important...walk to the nearest populated area...ask for help...get back and tow your car...and get it fixed. It WILL work out, as you said. But Ru may not poop out...you may see some amazing places...but you'll never know until you try. Or just put Ru to rest, live your dreams and dont make Ru the decider of your future. Take charge! You've BEEN taking charge. Dont leave it in Ru's hands

You sound like a mature adult talking through choices regarding a decision to be made. U NEVER sound like a whiney entitled kid. I appreciate hearing your process. My 2 cents; u said in this video that u need months to build ur new rig and will need a vehicle during that time. Build now since Rue is still working (cross fingers and toes) and start ur new rig. If Rue dies while ur in NH i feel u will spend a lot of money to get back to where u need to. If ur building ur new rig and Rue dies maybe u rent a car or beg borrow steal but u are close to ur new rig not stuck in Northern Maine.

I knew to expect this “stress” after the transmission news video. It’s growth. It makes for great videos. I’m enjoying and you’re not complaining you’re planning, strategizing, figuring out this adulting mess ya know. I’m gonna throw out this part though, a newer vehicle buy may be the best bet if you can figure that out. I know you’re miss frugal and budget conscious but considering that these trips and journeys off grid is your life the most critical thing is that the rig is super dependable. I don’t know how many times we’ve had the adventures with Rue and honestly I’ve just been holding my breath and feeling anxious and admiring you for just getting it done! I would probably have crumbled. So I’m just thinking a newer less maintenance work type vehicle is best. You definitely put your rigs to work starting out with a dude with time already on him may not get you very far and just piss you off after spending your time working at getting it set up the way you want it. Either way I’m going along for this growth journey.

Car breaks down that is my first concern unless you can afford to buy the next car right away. Then you have to take care of the stuffs in your car. You have to find a temporary place to stay until your car is fixed or for a different car. Have to take care of your pets also. This will give you a difficult time to deal with. And that's what I worry the most when living in a car. Other than that, living in a car as for myself only is no problem !!! I would love to have a cat or a dog with me to keep me company, but what your pets can't always be with you in certain places???
