I could only find limited information about the background of this Corgi Juniors Whizzwheels model. It is clearly labelled as a Reliant TW9 but all I really discovered was that it came in either cream or orange, like mine originally was, and that it came with a plastic attachment for the bumper to prevent the three-wheeler from toppling over. I wasn't able to tell exactly when it was released either.
The real Reliant TW9 or Ant as it later became known was produced between 1967 and 1987 by British manufacturer Reliant and then a company called BTB Engineering. It was built under licence in Greece until 1995 where it was initially launched. Reliant originally had no intention of selling the TW9 to the domestic market. It was seen as more of a competitor to Piaggio's Ape in continental Europe.
Uptake of the three-wheeled commercial vehicle was positive after local councils opted to use the Ant as a road sweeping service vehicle. Reliant sold the TW9 as a basic chassis together with the fibreglass cabin, allowing customers to choose their own rear section, be it a flatbed, closed van, water carrier, etc.
My model had been poorly painted over. Not a single component of the model had been missed. In what was a fairly straightforward restoration, every last piece had to be paint stripped by whatever means was most suitable. It is a very quirky casting and I'm pleased to have returned it to looking like new again.

That is a neat looking truck and you did a great job of restoring it! The Hycote Ford Signal Orange looks just like the original color. Thanks for sharing this.

Lovely job Jason I think a lot of these 1970s Corgi Junior castings have been overlooked they made a great range of models at that time

Wonderful restoration of an unusual model Jason. The lurid orange colour is very reminiscent of the Bond Bug.

the everyday models of everyday vehicles deserve love, too. :)
nicely done, very orange. the cracked window, well what can you do. :)I maybe would have put some silver behind the headlights, but then again it might vanish in the shadows of the tunneled headlights, so there. :)

Nice one Jason. As you say a quirky vehicle. Good repaint. I don't remember this one in the range or even seen one in the flesh. As far as the cracked windscreen, being so flat maybe cut out the windscreen and insert a new bit of similar tinted plastic. Just a thought. Keep er lit ya boy ye

The crack kinda resembles a windscreen wiper. Maybe somebody makes one in that scale for kit model 'superdetailers'?

When you come across broken clear parts, are you ever tempted to use this as a master to make a clear resin replacement?
I notice all the diecast car restorers entirely strip whatever paint is left. At which point do restorers ever consider touching up the paintwork so as to keep a model as close to original as possible?
I enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them.

Resin is something I’m tempted to try one day perhaps when I find a bit more time!
Personally I think a ‘touch up’ paint job would be very difficult for me as I exclusively use preset colours from rattle cans just out of choice. Those who mix and airbrush may be able to get a better match but again it is the quality of the finish that may be lacking. Generally it is best to apply a new colour to the entire model and leave those with minor imperfections be

I love it. You can’t beat the color, either. I hope you won’t take offense, but I got a kick out of you calling the Piaggio an “ape.” It is spelled that way, but it’s pronounced “ah pay,” which is Italian for bee. And the only reason I know that is because I lived there a hundred years ago. I’ll guarantee I was calling them apes until I was told different. Do you have an Isetta to redo? Or have you already? I can’t remember. One loses one’s memory with age.

I always try to get the pronunciations right but I didn’t for a moment think about it’s Italian pronunciation!
I haven’t yet done an Isetta and I’m still on the lookout for one to restore

It's pronounced Piaggio AP-AY (Ape is Italian for "Bee") 😉
