    This battered Lesney Matchbox 42B Studebaker Lark Wagonaire has certainly seen better days. It has been painted over while missing paint in some areas, had a smashed window piece, a broken tow hook, and I initially thought it was missing its signature sliding roof (spoiler - it wasn't).
    It replicate's one of the final vehicles from Studebaker, a Wagonaire based on the third generation Lark. These were designed to optimise Studebaker's limited lineup without spending out on retooling by adding a unique sliding roof allowing for a pick-up style cargo bed. They were built between 1963 and the firms demise in 1966.
    The Matchbox model arrived in place of the Evening News Van in 1965. It was always painted blue but it came in many, many shades of the colour. For the initial and final runs, the sliding panel was the same colour as the body, while those in between were painted the same pale blue as the 7B Ford Anglia. That was the case for my model, originally presenting a mid to turquoise blue with that pale panel. I have to say that I was very pleased with the outcome on the paint match for this resto.

    As always great restoration! And it’s always nice to hear a little automotive history about each car you restore

    It looks brand new Jason! I agree, the Tamiya colors look good and look like the original colors. Thanks for sharing this.

    Beautiful restoration Jason. I've seen a few of these being restored and many like yours had the roof section trapped inside the model rather than missing.

    What a great transformation! I have one minus most of its paint in my collection and was always a favourite with the sliding roof panel 👍

    Excellent work Jason! I'm fortunate enough to have one of these in my collection courtesy of my late uncle, though the hunter and dog are long gone.
    Interestingly, General Motors took the sliding rear roof idea and applied it to its GMC Envoy XUV in the mid-2000s, with basically the same results (i.e. lots of leak/sealing complaints and sales that were way below projections).

    Great restoration Jason I agree with a previous comment just like new. How do you manage to get such a good finish from a rattle can. Glad you included the man and dog as well they really do add to the model. Also thanks for the history so Matchbox had it in the line after the actual car stopped production

    Great job man! I was just wondering, where do you get 'reproduction' parts such as the window assembly that you were speaking about? As the owner of a seedy one myself, I was wondering what ideas you had to make a replacement sliding door in the scenario that yours was missing? Thanks 👌 amazing video

      Thank you! I use model-supplies.co.uk but there are a fair few places reproducing these days - especially on eBay

    Bonza renno! Can't help wondering why you didn't cut back the damaged tow hook so you could mount the replacement piece in toto. It looked to be a decent fit around that support piece.

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  ปีที่แล้ว

      The repro was not flush - it was stepped and when it was pushed back together the step left a gap in the back meaning the base wouldn’t connect either. Too busy talking about the real car to comment on that clearly!

    • @chezsnailez
      @chezsnailez ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DieCastRestos ~ fair enough. We just don't trust 'lucidity-challenged' glue enough to do what you ended up doing. Would've squished the part of the replacement hook that had to go into the body with some pliers.

    I keep meaning to ask, how do you dispose of the caustic soda solution when you're done paint stripping? Loved your choice of blue on this one!

    • @DieCastRestos
      @DieCastRestos  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just dilute and you can then safely pour it away down the drain. It’s used as a drain cleaner anyway but when it’s diluted and have used as little as I do it’s probably not all that effective at cleaning my drains!

    Studebaker made such great and reliable cars. Such a loss of American manufacturing prowess.
