MATCHBOX Restoration No 62b Commer Rentaset Van 1963

- This little van was looking pretty sorry for it's self and had not only lost it's way, but had also lost it's paint, stickers and accessories. I took it under my wing and breathed new life into it. The end result is one of my favourites! - This little van will, hopefully, now stick around until 2063 which will make it 100 years old but looking brand new! This is the 'Rentaset' version but this model also came out in 'Radio Rentals' livery. This model has now been placed into my Matchbox display cabinet where it will probably stay until I die!

Another great job. I remember when the TV repairman used to come your home. As a child I was so impressed by the skill of the repairman that I wanted to repair TVs as well so I joined the Army and became a radio repairman. I owe my skills as an electronic technician to the TV repairman.
I love this one. Each restoration seems to get better and better!

Almost every episode reminds me of favorite childhood memories I had quite a collection of matchbox in the 60’s you do a fantastic job

Nice restoration. I have the TV rental van, too. The most surprising part is how the little plastic TV sets haven't gotten lost for over 50 years!
They were the coolest little trucks. Seems like everything is based on science fiction themes these days. Wonderful restoration.
Marty, I've enjoyed watching many different craftsmen showing off their Matchbox restoration skills. For my money, your videos are tops in this genre. If I ever find my old Matchbox collection among my moving boxes, I may take a stab a doing this. Or, I may just get lazy and send some cars to you. Thanks very much for what you do.

Love watching your restorations takes me back to when i was a child.my uncle's worked at the Lesney factory and i used to go to their factory Christmas parties that they put on for all the kids and we always got a selection of cars to take home with us.

Rentaset merged with Radio Rentals in 1964 and all branches and vehicles re branded as Radio Rentals shortly after in case anyone is wondering why there were two versions of the van.

Yep. I remember playing with one of these as a kid. The TVs disappeared first. Then I recall the antenna and ladder kept popping off so they were lost a while later. It's pretty cool that you can get replacements for these.
You've turned an old junky toy into a work of art. Well done!
My dad hand built a Schober Theater Organ in 1973 from a kit. One of the things he did that he hated was hand finish all the wood pieces that made up the organ cabinet and the speaker cabinet. This included sanding, staining, and putting on finishing coats and waxes. He said, if he had to do it over again, he would have paid the option to have the factory finish the wood bits. That said, I noticed that he finished pieces on the underside and inside of the organ, and I stated, "Dad, why do you finish the pieces that no one will see, no one will know they are unfinished." And he said, "No, but I will."
Ok marty another stunner the commer van was a workhorse for many companies in the UK it had a 25cwt payload and did a good job until ford introduced the transit and devastated the small commercial vehicle market

I had one, too. One of my favorites. I can’t even tell you how many times I opened and closed that little door. Lost the TVs and ladder eventually of course. You really bring back memories.

You are so right about rubber gloves, my hands must be super tough because I have used various paint strippers and no gloves and no sore fingers but again good idea. I love watching you restore these old vehicles once toys. I remember the first set of match box, just 10 models and very basic

One of my favorite Matchbox models in my collection as a kid in the '60's. Great restoration job! As good, or better than new.

Love the oversized straws as a way of masking the wheels!! Also loved th recreation of the TV sets for the back of the van. Really a glimpse of how TV technology once was!
