How Tattoo Inspiration Should Be Done

In todays video I show you guys some artwork that my subscribers made by using my pizza pin up tattoo as inspiration.
My pizza pin up tattoo was recently copied but an tattooer in America. There was a couple of changes but not enough to say that he got inspired by my tattoo.
This video show cases what true inspiration is. None of the artworks in this video would be considered a copy as there are so many differences.
I hope this video helps show people that you can get so many different variations of the same subject tattooed with out it being a copy.

If people who aren't even self identifying as artists can come up with so many variations and inspirations of a concept as off the wall as "pizza pinup girl", there is literally no excuse for a tattoo artist.
Edit: of course some of these were probably professional artists but, point being they did this just to showcase the concept.

My first tattoo (which I got at 16) is a copy of some artwork I found on Tumblr and now that I've up grown a bit (I'm 21 now) I wished I'd chosen differently, but my tattoo artist didn't mention anything and I simply didn't know better at the time. Im definitely gonna get something done to it to make it more original at some point. But I love your videoes, they're very educational and very honest but whilst still being "nice and proper", so please keep it up and I'll keep watching!

Exactly! Tattoos can look so nice in so many different ways (as you show very well in your video) and then everyone, both the artist and oneself, can be happy!
I had something similar happen with my first tattoo. I fell in love with a piece of artwork and wanted it on my body. But I did change up some stuff, I didn't think all elements of the art piece were suitable for a tattoo (at least they weren't what I liked).
Now I only regret not going to a newbie artist, because the lines and saturation aren't as good as they could be (plus not newbies might have actually drawn their own art, you know).
At least I knew this person did that style of tattoo for the first time. He didn't lie about his experience, thank goodness.
This is the best possible way to show people how not to copy a tattoo, holy shit. It's SO rad to see how everyone interpreted it!

The thing is that the copied tattoo is in exactly the same art style of yours. Its not only elements, it looks exactly the fucking same. How can you argue thats not copying? Even if the pizza is moved, it literally looks like a draft of the same tattoo. Any artist that takes inspiration would end up with a completly different product because they would draw it up in theyre OWN style. Otherwise its just plain copying

I don't really think that a pin-up tattoo is like sexualising women or giving men power over females, kind of the opposite really when you think about it. (if all women have to do is pose in a bikini to get men to stop in their tracks then who holds the power there?) Also, your tattoo is awesome, the colours are so bright and fun. I don't get why anyone would be insulted or offended by it!

when you said that picture reminded you of a mermaid for some reason I just instantly thought about a pin-up mermaid with a unicorn horn coming out of her head eating pizza or being in an ocean of pizza 😂 and if someone has the guts to draw it you're welcome to have the idea.

A few years ago I was silly drunk at a friends party and I dropped a chunk of saucy pizza on my legs. Forgot that I was still holding pizza, in my head I was holding paper towel. I ended up smudging an entire pizza slice, toppings side, onto my already pizza covered leg. I was sad because it was the last slice I had been eyeing off and dying to eat! Pointless story but hey whatever!

How can people be unoriginal enough to copy and paste an original tattoo design on their bodies🙄? And the fact that they’re so cynical about it makes it worse! Both her and the tattoo ‘artist’. In your case it angered me more than usual because yours is soooo beautiful, and there’s a lot of ways to draw a woman with a pizza! It would’ve been a great tattoo, almost as good as yours, if she went with an actual artist.
Could have even had a spooky pin up with a pizza slice for the witches hat!

When I got my first tattoo I wasn't really educated about tattoo copying. In fact I didn't even know that it was a problem since I saw so many copied tattoos on social media. Thankfully I chose a tattoo artist who not only refused to copy the design I found online but took the time to educate me about how copying a tattoo is stealing. If it hadn't been for him I hadn't understood the issue back then. I am so grateful for him educating me and for the amazing original tattoo he designed for me instead. I would now be so ashamed to have a copy inked and would in fact regret getting tattooed in the first place. Thank you for speaking about the issue as I belive many tattooed influencer themselves are contributing to the problem by getting copies themselves! So happy I found your channel! It's so educating, informative and positive! I wished there would be more like you!
This is a true praise for all the creativity in this world! Why limit yourself with copying when you were gifted creativity. I believe everyone is a bit creative and can do something different! Copying is just an "artist" being lazy AF! Love your videos&your FB group ❤

Yep drawing need practice like everything else, in 5 month i get to know a little bit about my weak points and good ones, but i still have a long way to go since i have starded at 22 xD ( obviously they are younger people that draw better than me but they have more experiencies so i am fine with it ^^)

I used two different inspiration tattoo pics and took elements from them for my tattoo to create something completely new and personal to me. That’s how you should do it, copies are disrespectful and reinforce the stereotype that people with tattoos are “following the crowd”

I always tell my artists I want them to do their version of a tattoo. I would hate to ruin their creativity and have the same tattoo as a million other people
So I used to paint a lot, but stopped a year ago. Some of the reasons involved me feeling like I was unoriginal. Back then I didn’t know the difference between copycat and inspired art. I always felt like non of my work was really my own. That I was just copying other people’s ideas. But watching this video and seeing other people’s work made me feel a lot better about my own art and my abilities :) I think I might start painting again haha. I’m feeling pretty inspired

When I got my first tatt I was excited to post the finish product on my instagram but ultimately decided not to since people tend to copy way too much lol

My art teacher in high school always explained "inspiration" from other artists as using 15% or less than the original designs, colors, elements, etc. That's the rule of thumb I use for tattoos as well

Whatever your idea is for your next tattoo, you should have your subscribers design it, then pick your favorite!! I think that would be so so special.
A lot of artists won't tattoo someone else's design though. It would require some prior arrangements with an artist, maybe if they know Lauren has a TH-cam channel etc then they'd be okay with doing the exact design. Or, she'd have to allow the artist to make changes to the fan's design just like they would any other reference. Still, I think that's a great idea!
I'm not sure if a lot of people would feel confident enough in our art to make a design that could potentially be stuck on someone's skin forever. Unless they're actual tattoo artists/apprentices. 😅
So many people have managed develop your design so it's unique in their own way. For a tattoo artist to rip off a design when it's their job to draw up new, original ideas daily, is so wrong!!

Honestly, here I am, suuuuperlate to this party, but I honestly love every single one of these pieces! Got so inspired myself, so thank you so much for sharing all of this art 💛 this is the way to honor art you love, not doing straight up copies and then profiting off of them as that tattoo "artist" did. Like, c'mon, give credit where credit is due. Don't call yourself an artist if you're not gonna create art. Simple as that.

The piece where the woman had the pizza slice on top of her head and she was trying to eat it gave me an idea... Pinup style woman running after a pizza that is hanging on a hook from a fishing pole that's on her back, or maybe a disembodied line pulling the pizza like you see those "pranks" done with dollars. Really sad that I don't follow any social medias outside of youtube so I didn't know you did this kind of thing :( though I've been busy with another art work for the last few days, maybe I will draw this idea anyway after I'm done drawing Vera from Monster Prom.

Yes. Pizza for life! My husband and I met when he interviewed me for my first ever job at a pizza restaurant! Then when I met his family soon after we started dating, I discovered that their special Christmas tradition was having homemade pizza... like ALL DAY Christmas pizza instead of the boring staples that we literally ate just a month ago (thanksgiving in the US :p). That's when I decided that this was the guy and the family for me.

i recently came across ur channel and i love it! ur videos are so informative and i appreciate them. unfortunately a few years ago when i was looking to get my first big piece i was unaware that “copying” tattoos was unethical and i was one of those that took to pinterest to find their inspo. i got a johnny gloom drawing tattooed on me and i absolutely love it it’s my favorite piece but i feel so bad now having it on my body i wish my artist had said something to me about this being wrong and would’ve changed it a little but i can only learn from my mistakes and do better for future tattoos to come😊

Maybe a good rule of thumb could be: It‘s easier to list the things that are the same (short list) than the things that are different (long list). So there are less similarities than differences, you know? Because with most of the good art pieces, the same things are „pin up, pizza and tattoos“, while the differences are sooo many things, while the copied one there are maybe three things that are different and the list of things that are the same is super long. I hope that makes sense :D

Many of these are SO GOOD! I actually want two of them! I'm so amazed by all of them. People are so creative and lovely.
Pin ups are one of those art prompts/tattoo prompts that really have endless possibilities. So many faces, so many poses, clothes, hairstyles that one could combine to create a completely new tattoo each time so I really can't understand nor justify the need to copy a design, almost line for line, to me it just means you're either shit at designing a decent tattoo or you're lazy.
The type of plate you are referring to at 13:25 is blue china,and a plate rack is what used for the wall to put them up : )

I have a panda sugar skull tattoo on the side of my chest that myself and artist put together. My artiest told me he's never tattooed a sugar skull animal before so he was excited. In the last 6 years (thats how old the tattoo is) I've had COUNTLESS people tell me that they love it, AND that they want to get the same one! I just say thank you and that you can do a sugar skull with any kind of animal, in all kinds of different ways. :) hopefully no one wet out and got my same tattoo though..
