Great videos, easy to follow and understand because this guy really knows his stuff and presents them well. After looking at the videos, I've decided to restore my classic VW beetle myself instead of opting for my bodywork guy's quote for three grand and change. Of course, I'll be seeking out Eastwood's products for the project.
Absolutly great video. This will help us so much. At the moment we are working on a Vespa P200E restauration and for the first time we have to do some block sanding works. This classic italian scooter has a lot of round regions. Now we know how to work with this. Cheers from Germany.
13:10 To make custom sanding blocks for fine details like the wheel lip of that fender I sometimes place masking tape on the body panel and then blob body filler over the tape. After it hardens it can easily be removed leaving you with a near perfect shaped hard block. Sometimes you may have to sand the block itself to compensate for the thickness of the sandpaper but that is very easy to do.

Dude, you rock. You present info very clearly. Been doing auto body as a hobby for 30 years. Ever consider taking filler like evercoat, put a coat of wax (scary) or some other release agent on the panel, gob on the filler, reproduce the curve or style line with filler and then attaching the sandpaper to the filler with spray adhesive?
Always thought about it, but never tried it.

Great videos Kevin. I'm an amateur and try to restore cars as a hobby. i seem to always get slight ripples in the paintwork when moving around the vehicle at different angles as highlighted in this video. Can you advise where the problem lies? From this video it seems that the my blocking/ sanding is not up to scratch.

I've made my own blocks for contours using fiberglass. Lay the sandpaper on the contour, then add a couple layers of fiberglass over it and press on it till it cures... You must use the grit of sandpaper you intend to use on the panel (80 and 220 for me) or the block won't be the exact size of the contour when you add paper later.

Absolutely fantastic -- as usual. Question: You started with 120 grit for your block sanding. Okay, what grit do you finish block sanding the polyester BEFORE going to the last primer coat in, say 2X urethane?
Surely covering the panel in prepwash,some would wick into the primer? I would have thought some of the solvents would soak in? This never gets mentioned,maybe i'm missing something.
I have been using these foam blocks for prepping the glass parts on my kit plane. They work fantastic. I find for what they are they are over priced, I mean they are mostly air, but they do work really well. But you just know that it costs them 10 cents to make and they charge 40 bucks. But that’s life.

What about t hood curves when the curve has multiple angles? Usually the very front area what direction should I sand?

I used pre over the poly but if you have epoxy break throughs and do this beware that epoxy will get soft and screw up your next session of poly.(solvents will re activate epoxy) Wasted a lot of money on that mek poly went with High build DTM 5310 Tamco for my primer now with a water bourne W&G remover which is way less aggressive to check panels. Plus if you break though to metal on your sessions who cares More Dtm.. Love Kevin T though he is the man..

kevin the soft blocks does eastwood carry them i have the dura blocks i think you hit on something about conture lines that you can ruin them in a hurry .I wish we had the stuff back in the day the stang is awesome

I was painting my bike tank and had 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of metal black in middle and 3 coats of metal red on the outside and was waiting the 10 to 20 mins before i put on the metal clear coat on and walked out for a smoke and my kids came in and dropped a newspaper on the tank so I came back too find the paper stuck and i couldnt get it off,so can i wet paint it after 24 hrs dry time to get paper off and then maybe touch up and then put final3 coats of the metal finish?thx

if I'm not going to bare metal an I'm just sanding the old paint down do I need to use 2k high build primer.

Jesse Jenkins A different brand makes it, just look it up on amazon, it's much more expensive than the aerosol.. probably lasts much longer

Since that powdered dry coat gets left over in the tiny lows, can you shoot primer over it or even put filler over it?
You can paint over dry coat once it’s been cleaned properly. Most the time what is there is in tiny cracks or areas that are minuscule at best. Wipe with wax and grease remover and spray a light coat of primer or seal over it before painting.
