How To Paint a Car - Hands-On Cars 14: Painting The Camaro! Kevin Tetz & Eastwood

  • Learn how to paint a car as Kevin Tetz walks you through the process from scuffing the urethane primer to spraying an epoxy primer seal coat to base and clear as he paints his Z/28 Camaro.
Buy a Concours Pro Gun: www.eastwood.com/concours-pro-...
It's time to paint the Camaro! Kevin starts by masking the car while showing you a technique known as back-masking. He then preps the car by sanding and scuffing the panels which are covered in urethane primer-surfacer. Then it's time to put the car in the paint booth and prep the car and booth for paint. The car is washed before he wipes it with glass cleaner, PRE Paint Prep, alcohol and a tack rag. The booth is removed of all dirt and dust. He even put bug bombs in the booth the night before to eliminate any creatures from walking onto the freshly painted car. Then he sprays the epoxy primer sealer coat before laying down the Boulevard Black Basecoat and Premium Show Clear with his Concours Pro HVLP Paint Gun- all from Eastwood.
You'll get a lot of great tips and tricks along the way that will help you do a great job when you spray your car.
Are You an Eastwood Guy? Kevin Tetz sure is!

Excellant job of promoting Eastwood products and basic painting techniques. Give your painter another twenty years of experience and he will really become a pro. Free tip, throw the gun flow meter away and test spray pressure against your forearm. Give your clear more time to dry between coats and it will dry down a lot smoother, eliminating a lot of corrective after-sanding. I have painted for 45 years and I am still learning. Best regards.

Hello Kevin, thank you for the Video, very informative. I have one problem here. I am spraying metallic lime gold (off the mustangs) on my aussie built Falcon. The body has been block sanded and primed within an inch of her life, straight is an understatement. The problem is, on the final cut with 800 grit, i have very fine scratches on concave areas where the side of the paper touches without pressure. What can i do to eliminate these? I was thinking about a very light scuff with a flexible pad without creating low spots. Would this be the go? I know it is a hard one to answer as you have not seen my work or know my capabilities. Cheers Frank from Australia....

Dear Sir...I been watching you work and I was wondering I was shown to Start from the center of the roof line working outward that way I can't accidentally come into direct contact with any surface I've just painted IE reaching over my work painting inward ..It made good sense to me as I've seen guy's with less developed arm's make contact because a full gun can play hell on your arm on those long reach paint surfaces the gun can feel like it weights a ton . So I start at the roof center line working in toward's the drip rail that way I'm not hanging out over freshly laid paint . But I guess which ever get's it covered work's right !

A couple things. What is a "holiday"? And did anyone else notice when Kevin put the filler on the inside of the fender it was different colors indicating it hadn't been mixed enough??

Holiday is a spot missed while spraying the paint... it can also be a spot the paint was sanded through to the metal.
