Per the discussion of the budget and the liberals rebounding. Kory is bang on. People don’t believe that the liberals are going to do what they say. And younger Canadians don’t want to hear what Trudeau has to say anymore. He’s lost me and many other millennials/gen Z for good.
Though often infantile, the Western push against Ottawa is a legitimate expression of the resentment of "Quebec is just special". Would help if Ottawa political stopped accepting that Quebec is "just different" and started putting a lid on Quebec excesses.
Corporate Tax = Pass the costs to the consumer.
Or don’t give the wage increase to the employee.
Alberta voice here.
The panel, minus Cory, always brush past and accept that Quebec is treated preferentially. In one show they pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said that that's the way it is and that's the way it will stay. It's how things are in this country. It is one of the things that's most disappointing about politics in this country.
Love that Danielle Smith stands up for Alberta
“Why are they fishing in the NDP pool, like there’s almost nobody left there.” OUCH!!!
Solid show guys. I think you missed the mark with Fraser. He is going to own immigration. Also CPC fund raising is going to increase once Liberals introduce "excess profit tax".
Im expecting a change to the capital gains inclusion rate and / or an estate tax. There’s still $1T to move from the boomers down and that’s the only place I can see them having to dig out from all of their irresponsible spending over the last 8 years.
Ironically, the only group that the LPC performs better than the rest of the age groups is the ones they’re going to gouge. At this rate the LPC could look like the PC party in 93.
As per Scott's point to who they are targeting. Taxing the 55+ woman vote to maybe win the younger vote seems to be a losing strategy.
I don’t disagree with this taxation policy. I do like the idea of taxing wealth over income.
But boy oh boy this would be political suicide. Seniors is where the Liberals are polling okay, and seniors have a high voter turnout.
@@Griff1984 it’s one thing to target with messaging, if the reality of the lives of young people isn’t significantly improved a year from now Trudeau is sunk and I can’t see his ego allowing him to change course.
@@marcschouten3527 I don't disagree and from my handle you can see that I'm on the higher end of the 'youth' they are trying to court. The 'bring fairness for every generation' slogan they champion probably won't get it done for them.
A very unlikely measure they could adapt is a home equity tax of some sorts. It's been talked about for years and it ties into the generational housing message. It would sink the Liberals though, one can wish.
"No lollygagging here" but a two fingered salute from a half witted yet capable communicator in the field. "The Curse of Politics"..the aroma of corruption.
Thank you Jordan for your hey you to Danielle Smith on her new Bill 18 not allowing municipalities to accept federal money for housing, the bill will also demand that the Province now take on the role as gatekeeper for Universities accepting grant money and not for profits accepting federal funding. As some Alberta political pundits are suggesting it will be mind boggling the amount of red tape the Province will have to go through. On a local radio show Alberta at Noon they had on University Professor from Quebec who indicated that it's bad public policy and Quebecers don't like it because it takes so much longer to receive money from the feds. The mayor of small city Wetaskwin in the heart of UCL country was on Alberta at Noon as well and he was very concerned about the potential red tape that will slow down his city from getting federal funds. My question is if Danielle Smith wants to fund all these projects herself why did she cut back funds from the Province to the cities?
So if Alberta wants to get the same benefit from Canada that Quebec does it’s a problem Jordan? George Orwell “all animals are created equal but some are more equal than others” - eh?
@@percyphillips6711 thank you so much well that's just the thing the Quebec Professor was saying is that Quebec has wait so much longer and endure so much more red tape why would we want to have to go through that hassle in Alberta? That's what the mayor of Wetaskwin in Alberta is worried about more red tape, more hold ups it is poor public policy. I am an Albertan who would rather have good public policy rather blinding following along with something that doesn't work that well in Quebec.
@@carolegrenier4819 Probably not the best mayor to listen to. The city just tried to get him recalled (an impossible task in this province). I live there and he's brutal. What I can never understand is why Quebec being treated differently is always bushed off or accepted by this panel whenever the subject comes comes up. They have so many political and therefore financial advantages. I'm happy to have DS sticking up for our province and using the preferential way Quebec is being treated as an argument.
@@shawnlinden43 Thank you for your reply it's not only the mayor of Wetaskiwin but all the mayor and rural municipalities as well as big city mayors who are questioning this bill. Your mayor just happened to be on Alberta at Noon. I am sorry you aren't happy with your mayor however. You may want to check on happy Quebecers are with the way the amount of red tape it takes to get the money to the municipalities. Is all that red tape really what you want?
P.M. needs written words read to him, about sums it all up.ADS perhaps?
Poilievre does have a second plank after axing the carbon tax. He also wants to axe the Alcohol Escalator Tax. Dude doesn’t care about the science of climate change like he doesn’t care about the science of alcohol consumption at any amount increasing the risk of cancer. He will just decry the authors and scientists behind the research as so-called experts. Would not surprise me next if Poilievre starts pandering to smokers and promise to remove the blank packaging and ugly health warnings. You know he is all about freedom the freedom to die of pollution, alcoholism or cancer.😂😂
Since when did raising prices on alcohol have can’t effect on alcoholism and if you think the CT reduces pollution, the Libs would be killing us with evidence, instead they only talk about rebates, which only benefits those who don’t drive or pay for home heating. You might be suffering from ostrich syndrome.
Maybe the NDP leader provided a pivot point.
David once said he's a big believer in telling the truth to people and I almost spit out my water. This whole podcast is about how to spin and mislead people so that they'll vote for you. Lol
So Jordan says conservatives are flirting with Russian disinformation. How so Jordan? The show was not bad but from here on in expecting lots of talk about what the Liberals can do to win the next election by 3 of the panelists. All Trudeau's lying and scandals and atrocious track record as a leader forgotten it seems
The carbon tax hits the resource industry and the rich - massive house, 4 car garage, pool, yacht - while the middle class gets a rebate - seems like good climate policy and economic policy
Lower income workers likely travel further for work. Burn more fuel to get to work.
Older vehicles have poorer fuel economy, and is it the rich who are driving those older vehicles?
Lower income Canadians likely rent, have a poorly insulated house, paying the utilities and have landlords who have no incentive improve the drafty home.
My heating costs were more living in a cramped student apartment with milder winters in Kingston Ontario, than it does now for my 2500 square foot house in frosty edmonton.
And you don’t get the carbon tax rebate unless you file taxes, and guess who less likely to file taxes? It is the people who lack the means to file taxes.
Don’t think it’s those with a four car garage who view the carbon tax as a rounding error that are opposed to the tax.
Those with massive houses, 4 car garages etc. are not concerned about the CT and it does nothing to change behaviour. It’s hurting lower income folks.
Russia, Russia, Russia.....so tiresome.
now this is what I call good
