Credit to our PM for instilling such a passion to exercise my right to vote as I never thought I would feel.

Jordan and Scott - right on . There is a problem with Doc compensation, not a tax issue.

and how does this new tax address their compensation?

Great episode. In my practice working with homeowners, 8 out of 10 are mad, sad, and angry. Cost of living and their frustration of trying to get through each month above water has them all wanting change. Taxes of all sorts continue to go up and Climate Change is no longer a priority to their individual household.

Hi from one of the mutants - loved Scott's comment "you're the guy!" - we need statesman Trudeau not analyst Trudeau.

The second round of the fight on capital gains will be when people realise this is a backdoor inheritance tax. When you're alive you can-- for the most part-- plan around the higher inclusion rate but the major exception is when you die. There are very few people who have more than $250,000 in capital gains but a lot of estates will trigger the higher inclusion. As we head into the Boomer wealth transfer I would expect that the majority of payers of the higher inclusion rates will be the estates of deceased individuals by orders of magnitude greater than the number of wealthy individuals who will pay the higher inclusion rate.

I agree, this policy is here to stay. No matter which government is in power. Tax payors can't vote if they are dead:(

JT’s comments are funny considering his political brand is division and wedge issues

This was an excellent discussion. A Canadian audience might not be aware but in the UK, doctors are trying to get a living wage. In Canada, doctors are fighting for fair capital gains treatment.

David: Instead of looking at raising your taxes as "making you the villain" (and yes, raising my taxes too, as one who has managed through thrift, hard work and dumb luck to accumulate more wealth than I really need) why don't you (and I) tell our government that we offer to pay more taxes to enable more subsidized housing, more support for the disabled and disadvantaged, better pay and work/life balanced for our health care providers. Taking a position that we expect more from our government at the same time we want less tax is illogical.

Nailed it Stephen. The question that isn't getting answered is (drum roll). Do Canadians think they are getting value for their money. Answer: "Take a look at the polls"

    To Jordan's "Hey You"
Living an an encampment at the New Brunswick, Nova Scotia border is isn't going to end the carbon tax. That being said, its a lot more effective than living in an encampment in Montreal or New York for so called Palestine.

I think JT's US podcast appearances are less about appealing to the Canadian voters, and more about setting him up for the speakers' circuit. He'll frame himself as the man who stood for what was right (carbon taxes, Emergency Act, etc.) against the forces of populism and demise of democracy, and hope to be paid the big bucks for his thoughts. Ugh.
