I've recently tried an absolutely wonderful pineapple jelly and I highly recommend giving it a try if you do end up doing jellies/jams/preserves! Also guava jelly is another great choice, the stuff is amazing and I can't understand why it isn't more popular or widely used. There's even a banana jelly, which I honestly never knew existed, and I wanna try it SO bad, I think it's going to be the next I try out!

The fact that Jamie failed to identify the rum *twice* tells me that either he really should have gotten a palette cleanser, or that you were using a really atypical rum. I mean, it's probably got the single most characteristic flavour out of all the destilled spirits.
They mention later that it's aged in Whisky barrels so has Whisky notes, it wasn't really a fair one to use when it's supposed to taste like Whisky somewhat. Mount Gay Rum

yeah, though i feel they should have distinguished brandy from whisky too. but rum 100% has that multi-faceted sugars taste, almost adhesive quality, because of more complex sugars from the cane.

Also Frangelico. Its my favorite Christmas drink. I made my own hazelnut liquor a few years back just to emulate it. Also creme de menthe was so obvious from the color. Absinthe is only slightly greenish. Complete amateurs. Calling Rum Whisky?...I get the bad guesses on the Asian ones tho. That's more difficult.
As someone whose favourite liqueur is Creme de Menthe - I am horribly disappointed that they couldn't look at a green liqueur and automatically know what it was! I was screaming when Barry said Vermouth! 😂
It does look very similar to midori, a melon liquer. That would have been my guess on looks, but smell surely should have confirmed creme de menthe with the pepermint!
It was also in their fridge where they used to do their openings in for years, Same bottle with dark green liquid and a label that clearly said crème de menthe. Was the very first thing i spotted in this video and inmediatly knew the exact bottle used to pour that glass

As an ex cocktail bartender I feel like I would have gotten almost all of those. The shaoxing and cachaca would have definitely given me pause though Well done lads, its difficult to keep your palettes fresh when tasting that many different types of alcohol

As someone who is quite familiar with alcohol/mixology, this was actually infuriating to watch. I know these guys have good palates when it comes to food, so how. HOW. HOW did this go so badly? Rum, brandy, and whiskey taste NOTHING alike, so the fact that the boys got them confuses MULTIPLE TIMES is baffling to me. Jamie tasting what he described as a neutral, watery spirit (the soju) and then answering gin over vodka was... a wild choice. And I have NO CLUE how Barry thought CREME DE MENTHE tasted like VERMOUTH? Or that ANY Vermouth could be that VIBRANT GREEN? You guys need to do more mixology stuff so that nothing like this ever happens again.
Loved this video!! Although I would have needed both water and piece of French bread as a palate cleanser between tastings. Would have gotten the whiskey, rum, brandy, tequila, creme de mint (the green colour is usually the giveaway with me), Irish creme, hazelnut liquor, and French Cointreau (I love all things orange). Have never had Cachaça or Crème de cassis (I don't like black currant), never had Korean soju, never had Chinese shaoxing rice wine.

Sauces, not too complex like chutneys. Give the lads a chance. Maybe vinegars and flavor building liquids like worcestershire sauce and the like. Oh, please do specialty vinegars... The squinched expressions would be priceless, and identifying an apricot vinegar versus a peach would be stellar. FAIR DISCLAIMER: I love vinegars and tangy flavours, so a preemptive apology for suggesting.

I've tried many types and brands of whisky and rum, there can be certain types with very similar taste profile.
He might mainly drink spiced rum and I don't think Mount Gay is spiced - so that might have thrown him off.

Would have gotten the whiskey, rum, brandy, tequila, creme de mint (the green colour is usually the giveaway with me), Irish creme, hazelnut liquor, and French Cointreau (I love all things orange).
Have never had Cachaça or Crème de cassis (I don't like black currant), never had Korean soju, never had Chinese shaoxing rice wine.

I flat out cannot understand how Barry managed to get the creme de cassis wrong, not once but _twice._ It has _such_ an intense blackcurrant flavor I don't see how anyone could possibly mistake it for sherry or port.
Purple/red sherry? sherry??? For creme de cassis???? Barry!!!! And green vermouth? For creme de menthe???? THE Mint flavoured liqueur??? How many did you guys have before you started??

Maybe vinegars and flavor building liquids like worcestershire sauce and the like.
Oh, please do specialty vinegars... The squinched expressions would be priceless, and identifying an apricot vinegar versus a peach would be stellar.

Slightly different format, but along similar lines Have the normals match up classic French dishes names to the dish in front of them. Though you'd have to pick the two normals with equally awful French.

I suggest sauces for a future episode. Everything from soy to chili sauce to mayo. The question is, should they need to drink it out of glasses or should the have small bowls or plates?
