I have a suggestion to this; One of them uses frozen while the other one gets fresh. Then have James come in and dine with the normals, and have all four of them rate the individual dishes and agree on a "fair" price to pay for each. The one that makes the most net profit wins.
Alternatively, both chefs use frozen. The normals have to blind taste test them, and decide which is frozen and which is fresh. They twisr is they don't know both are frozen
And they wonder why people want to have Jamie around... instead of Mr. "Shoehorn a fishpie into everything" or the inventor of the legendary "Pondscumburger".... At least ready-meals taste ok. Most of the time... ;)
I’m sure Kush intended that to sound like an insult but I just think fair play Jamie, you’ve done something clever there 😂😂 instead of trying to combine a variety of frozen ingredients to make an unknown dish, why not use frozen ingredients that can make a dish which already exists in a frozen form, it’s safe because it exists as a finished product and leaves no room for guesswork or uncertainty
In my personal opinion I would say getting Kush on camera is the best decision they’ve made since James’ departure! They’ve desperately needed another chef presence on camera to relieve the pressure off of Ben having to be in every video and if he becomes a permanent feature of Sorted videos and continues to be himself he will improve the channel in so many ways

Let them buy their 6 ingredients for a dish and then make them choose 2 ingredients to keep and pass the other 4 to the next guy. Then they pick another 2 and pass the remaining 2 to the final guy. The level of frozen food in the UK is incredible. We cannot get anything like most of these ingredients where I live in the U.S. I was in awe of the store Iceland that sold nothing but frozen items when I was staying there for several weeks. Plus, the prices are so much less expensive!!!! Love this challenge!!!!!
Genuinely speaking the videos you guys put out help my cooking so much even though I’m not with the sidekick app the videos helped me so much make much more healthier and tastier dishes with less money. On that note frozen foods are so handy and amazing
I have a potato soup recipe that I've been cooking for my family since I was a teenager (we shared cooking responsibilities in our house). Always took about an hour of prep, and several hours to cook properly, and a fair amount of attention, but it was a favorite of the fam. When I was an adult, and feeding my own family, on a limited budget of both money and time, I realized that almost all the veg I used was included in a package of frozen potatoes O'Brien. The homemade mashed potatoes I used in conjunction with boiling starch out of the diced potatoes for thickening were cheaply and easily replaced with mashed potato flakes. The bouillon in the recipe, easily replaced by a 32oz carton of chicken or vegetable broth. The chopped ham, I could buy already chopped. I make the same recipe today, but instead of an hour of prep, I throw most of the ingredients into a crock pot and leave it alone for a couple of hours, add in the ham, heavy cream, some fresh chopped herbs, and potato flakes at the end, and voila. If you put it side by side with the same recipe cooked the way I used to cook it, no one would be able to tell the difference. Fresh is great and all, but sometimes the convenience of pre-packaged ingredients is worth the switch, especially since with the cooking method, you can't tell the difference. And bonus, less food waste, at least directly from my kitchen.
Frozen ingredients are amazing! No waste, and for someone like me with disabilities who can't stand and chop things like chopped veg are a life saver. If it wasn't for frozen veg I likely wouldn't eat them.
And honestly a fair amount of the time if you buy a decent companies etc it often tastes better than the so called "fresh" which has travelled hundreds of miles if not more and then sat out back of a warehouse, then the supermarket before you even consider how long it might spend on the shelf. There's honestly some great frozen foods out there even some cheap stuff from the right places. To me frozen just makes so much sense unless you're really a huge foodie who might actually tell the difference in several cases but this video seems to show that's not true so. For most families, everyday home cooks well why waste food or money? Then as you say there's many people who need certain things done or need help who can get decent preprepared food when in that case the only real alternative is canned and canned veg and most food in general is awful and already over cooked and soft when you open the can.
Unbelievable! Honestly one of the best pieces of content I've seen on TH-cam in general in a long time. Great concept and brilliant execution from Barry and Jamie!
I'd say Ben gets partial credit for guessing "work in as many hacks and tips and tricks as you can" since that's basically what they had to do with the ingredients available.
Just want you and the Sorted team to know that this is by far my favourite youtube channel - been watching for over 10 years (along with lots of other channels) but you're the only ones who have really stuck around for me. Keep it up!
Love the shoutout for wild garlic. It grows a lot near my house and is such an amazing ingredient. We've started adding it to kimchi and it's absolutely amazing.
After watching this channel for over 12 years now, still manages to impress. This is absolutely brilliant. I'd love to see more on frozen foods, especially deconstructing prepared meals, and packages that include sauces and the like. Also frozen fruit tends to work well. A meal completely from tinned foods would be great also, although I think that may have been done before?
Great video showcasing frozen foods. As someone generally cooking for one, frozen vegetables are a great way of adding to dishes whilst being easy to portion control.
Freezing things in pellets instead of additional individual plastic baggies is genius! I currently live in a country where frozen food isn't much of a thing, and I'm so keen on this!
As a non-chef who regularly turns to frozen ingredients for my own meals or just buying whole meals outright, I can say that Barry is completely correct. You will be surprised by what you can find in the frozen section of a supermarket or grocery store. Furthermore, the quality of some products are astounding; e.g., some of the best garlic bread I've ever had in my life has come out of a frozen aisle. It's because of this that I absolutely love this video. It's important to think about what frozen food can do for you as well as what it can't, which honestly is true for everything in the kitchen.
I can't get to the market that often so frozen food has been a large part of my meal prep for a long time now. Plus, buying in bulk is a thing. I agree with Barry, though, you can get a lot of really interesting food from the frozen food aisle these days.
I am so down for how much more we're seeing Kush lately. It's James all over again; reluctantly pulled in front of the camera and destined to become a star.
I like Kush being more involved in sorta a cook-wiki for the normals to bounce ideas with + he always looks genuinely horrified the entire time which is great
Frozen ingredients became a reliable staple during lockdown, and its a habit that I have retained since that ended. I always have ready chopped onion, carrot and celery in the freezer, and a good selection of herbs, chilli and ginger. Freezing spare bits of fresh herbs is a no brainer too, so that you can add interest to soups stews etc with minimal waste. Word or warning though - always label things clearly - I discovered that home grown yellow tomato pulp can be easily confused with orange pulp when both frozen and it really doesn't make an ideal spanish almond and orange cake - Yikes!
That was so much fun!! Well done boys! I'd love to see what Ben could make with only frozen ingredients (and if you can surprise him with the frozen water rule as well xD)
I just wanna say Sorted's consistent engagement in the comments is one of the many reasons they remain a top-tier channel. You folks are doing everything right; keep on it.
While Pass It On might be my all time favorite from this channel, it is a pleasure to see both normals putting out some very successful dishes with a very interesting brief. As a side note it is wonderful to have another chef in the kitchen and Kush has just became such a great addition to the team
The scratch cook section has a lot of really great stuff. Frozen lime leaves are one of my favourites as they have so much more flavour than dried and fresh are unavailable in my area. The pellets of pre-grated ginger and garlic are also good, though you need a bit more of it than fresh. Ones to avoid are the bell peppers, as they can be rather tough, and the chopped coriander, as it's rather flavourless. Seafood is always a win, but a more surprising win is hash browns, which are the best of the frozen potato things in my opinion. Mince has a noticeable difference in texture, but I still use it in things like bolognaise where you slow cook it for hours as slow cooking breaks down the texture similarly to freezing. Any meat you are planning to slow cook works just as well frozen. In terms of veg, peas are better frozen in my opinion, and the mixed mushrooms make no difference once you drain or cook down the extra liquid. Cauliflower isn't a huge difference if you steam it instead of boiling it. Brocolli loses a bit of flavour and texture though, and edamame beans go weird. Onions aren't as flavourful, but you can still caramelize them and get a good result.
I frequently use frozen potatos in various forms (from the obvious fries to thick cuts and smashed, all good to grab for keeping any fresh foods cold on the way home too :p), peas are greener frozen than canned and I use frozen corn because it's easier to portion that cans. Then there are jams and berries and such that are good depending on what you're making out of them. Ofcourse frozen aren't same as fresh but if you are making something that will cook/smash them anyway... Only thing to consider with frozen meats is that fattier the meat => shorter it stays good frozen. Chunk or cuts of lean meat can stay excellent for a year if not longer but something like fatty salmon, or pork should be used in ½ year or the texture&taste changes - and not for better. Same goes for most ground meats. My totally non-scientific explanation is that the surface of meat dries and any moisture turns to ice around the meat. Ground meat has more surface area compared to thickness so it dries faster. I always have some mutton, assorted vegetables, mushrooms and potatoes in some form in my freezer. If I'd now empty my tiny freezer it'd feed a family for good couple of days. :p
That was such a cool video with 2 amazing dishes. The fact you fooled Ben as well makes it even better. I'd love to see this sort of theme again with things like tinned food, packets, microwave. I think it would go down really well.
One of THEE BEST moments from this series EVER, "I don't understand WHY you two are so alarmed at how good", LOLOLOLOL Bro, the frozen DRAMA of this all. WHOA! 😮💨😬😑😅🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Frozen ingredients can give you so much flexibility and freshness. Especially with stuff that would suffer from long storing times or stuff you can't get otherwise. Or just stuff that doesn't suffer from quality drops when frozen. In my own cooking I use a fair bit of both fresh and frozen ingredients and I like the results. And with some stuff (like peas or spinach) I often don't even bother buying them fresh because they are actually "fresher" if you buy them frozen anyway and they are just as good. Especially for midweek cooking.
Frozen is my goto. Discounted day old bread, bulk deli cheese and meats, leftover soups and chili, it all goes into the freezer. Combined with frozen veggies and frozen juice concentrates, it minimizes what would very likely go bad when only serving a single person.
Every time I see "Normal" associated with the boys, I chuckle. We really need a middle level for them - something between normal and chef. Nice job, guys!

@@blueocean43 Thanks for the review!
That was a REALLY clever and enlightening theme!
Jamie De-constructing frozen meals into another dish is the most Jamie thing ever❤❤❤❤😅😅😅😅😅
The boiling of the ice. 😂
This was one of the best. Really great job guys!
It would be fun to see a reaction video of Ben watching them cook this episode.
I want to see Kush and Ben do a complete meal from frozen foods!!
That was such a cool video with 2 amazing dishes. The fact you fooled Ben as well makes it even better. I'd love to see this sort of theme again with things like tinned food, packets, microwave. I think it would go down really well.
Really enjoyed this episode. Thanks guys.
One of THEE BEST moments from this series EVER, "I don't understand WHY you two are so alarmed at how good", LOLOLOLOL Bro, the frozen DRAMA of this all. WHOA! 😮💨😬😑😅🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I like the look of berries dish but I like the sound in the flavor that is in Jamie's dish
Fantastic episode once more, thank you folks! I use frozen ingredients a lot :) Even my yeast goes in there, keeps for a really long time!
Frozen is my goto. Discounted day old bread, bulk deli cheese and meats, leftover soups and chili, it all goes into the freezer. Combined with frozen veggies and frozen juice concentrates, it minimizes what would very likely go bad when only serving a single person.
Very clever! I knew you could make a good meal from only frozen, but this is next level! Love it!
Oh yes, pleeeeease bring back Big Night In!! That would be so awesome!!🥰
They need to bring back “big night in” !!
17:05 genuinely, if you were to bring back Big night in, that would be amazing. It was an amazing series and I'd love to see it come back
Every time I see "Normal" associated with the boys, I chuckle. We really need a middle level for them - something between normal and chef. Nice job, guys!
Really really loved this challenge, very unusual! 10/10 boys!
Great idea. Thanks lads bring it on. Love to see more of this. Kush been on the side as an advisor. That’s nice to see. Try and do something similar so both cooks. Don’t know what’s been cooked on a similar theme, but all three lads participating cooking for Kush and Ben. Other than that it’s great bring it on plus Coke with unusual ingredients next time that the lads don’t know how to cook With. It’s just an idea. Thanks again take care everybody look after your friends family bye for now.
Kush sabotaging and being chaotic has to be my new favourite thing on this channel.
"Yes, to create a point of difference." that is unbelievable waffle from jamie
Absolutely love this! Excellent tip Kush! As a home cook I use a lot of frozen ingredients. Especially vegetables I prefer fresh meat.
Honestly those jollie gnocchi sound really good and I’m tempted to make them as is 😂
I love how Barry always says "certain supermarkets"
Waitrose. It's OK Barry, we know you mean Waitrose
Very fun episode. Frozen foods have their place. I love broad beans and grow them every year. Blanched and frozen I can have them all year round.
This was just so positive and fun, I loved it.
Nice to see sensible Kush giving interesting critique on the side.
