I'm one of those peasants who drink cider, beer and simple liquor so I don't really understand the thing about really expensive and fine whiskey or wine, for example. Jägermeister, Fireball, Baileys and other simple stuff. Snaps (Mostly 'Akvavit') is tradition during Midsummer, crayfish parties, Easter, New Year and Christmas. It's usually "swept" in a single gulp from a full shot glass, proceeded by a large swig of beer and a short song. A small swig of Akvavit is enough to floor a hardened Eastern European and really make him question his life choices.

You can get a pretty decent whiskey for 20-40 euros/dollars/pounds and if you consider that with regular serving that is 20 drinks, so between 1 and 2 dollar per glass, that is getting close to a bottle of beer, and is significantly cheaper than quality beers which can nowadays easily cost you 4, 5, 6 euros/dollars/pounds. More expensive bottles are about 60-120, anything over that and you aren't paying for quality but for the brand, age, rarity, hype.
@@tntfreddan3138 I've lived in Norway now for about 7 years, when we have a Christmas gathering the Akvavit comes out and everyone suggests to "sip it" I took a sip and just instantly, in my peasant British mind said "Oh, that's tequila." They replied "No, no, that's Akvavit." Ok, it may say that on the bottle, but that is for sure just a Scandinavian tequila. ^ I then proceeded to just take multiple shots of the stuff, destroying tradition.
this needs to be a series, any combination of James/Jeremy/Richard with a different drink/cocktail each time talking about the drink itself and any conversational tangents that come of it. Feels like having a drink with old friends I've known for a long time
I actually poured myself a drink just to watch, and it felt like home. I would pay money to have a weekly show wear the lads try a different cocktail (where the viewer at home can make) and just watch them shoot the breeze.
They've been talking to each other for such a long time already, might as well start a podcast. Not much different from what they've been doing all their lives.
@@Towkeeyoh that’s something I definitely see them doing. They could do it in their own studio that they build themselves or remotely from their own places or both. And they could just talk like you said. They have so much life experience to just share forever.
To be honest, I see myself watching lots of TH-cam with slightly older gentlemen, who are doing everyday stuff and talking about nothing. My theory is that we just need to socially interact with older brothers, dads, or uncles. James is only 16 years my senior, so he is neither my dad's or my brother's age, but he can be my uncle, and he talks about things my dad never talks about that I find interesting. The point is, we all need the mentorship of older and wiser people even if they talk bollocks.
I love Richard Hammond not realising how influential he's been to almost an entire generation and that all the things he likes became popular because he liked them.
I'm 37 years old and these two gentlemen along side Jeremy are like 3 fun uncles to me, been watching them for years and I'm always thoroughly entertained.
Spent my childhood watching them and today as 25 years old I still cant get over the elegancy of the conversation between these guys. Sad to see them getting old.

I ordered a bottle of each type when the US version was first made available expecting to receive a letter in the mail with some stickers and a nice letter explaining that the whole thing is a joke and that I wouldn't be charged and thank you for supporting the madness of James May. Instead what arrived was 2 bottles of rather excellent gin.

honestly i love how they constantly make sarcastic comments about how viewers must find them just sitting around talking incredibly dull but that’s what i love about them, how they make usually boring stuff like listening to people talk incredibly interesting. that’s why i really really want a podcast from them discussing everything. please make it happen.
My favorite thing about "The Reassembler" was that James May would pontificate on screwdrivers, tea, or the like. Having "What's Next" do this with James, Richard, and some gin is absolutely wonderful.

Common hiccups are usually caused by trapped air causing contractions of the diaphragm. Holding your breath works for some people but it depends how they do it. What you actually need to do is breathe in, tense your diaphragm, and then slowly breathe out while keeping your diaphragm tense, releasing the trapped air while also resetting any diaphragm spasms. That's what Hammond seems to be doing.
I can attest to the quality of James's Gin. Bought one of the first signed batch and as a non G&T afficionado absolutely loved it. When I gave it to my mum who is a proper G&T fan she said it was brilliant. I didn't tell her where it came from. Could have been a £20 bottle for all she knew. Unfortunately it's all gone and I'll need to buy more.

It's crazy thinking back to when I used to watch Top Gear growing up as a kid/teenager and now here I am as a grown (I guess) adult watching a video of James and Richard drinking gin while drinking alongside them. I've enjoyed everything these guys have produced and I doubt there's anything they could be a part of which I wouldn't enjoy.
Richard is spot-on about the river Test being a chalk stream. They're fed by aquifers so they don't have much seasonal change to them and they're remarkably clear. Fun fact, of the 210 worldwide rivers classified as chalk streams, 160 are located in England.
Just need to get Clarkson, Hammond and May in a room together, all with enough drinks to last a couple hours and have them do a podcast. I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH THIS COSTS I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!!!

And regarding what Mr Hammond could do I believe that you've already done it, you mastered the art of surviving serious car accidents, admittedly it's a difficult thing to share with others but nevertheless it's a remarkable achievement that must be acknowledged.
Fun fact: Loads of new Gin brands popped up in Ireland over the last several years. Most of these are new distillers awaiting licenses to make whiskey (an excellent investment). Gin is very easy to produce. The sheer choice and marketing of this modern gin had a big effect on how trendy it is. Having said that gin is a superb beverage.

No, gin is very fashionable. I work with a bunch of 20/30-something nurses, and all they drink is gin and prosecco. It's not an old person's drink now.
It's fashionable now because the Gin Act of 1751, which prohibited small Gin Distilleries in London, was repealed in 2008. Thanks to that act being repealed, small volume craft gin distilleries were now legal. Couple that with Gin being mentioned in popular TV shows like The Crown & Downtown Abbey and bartenders now having more gin options than Gordon's, Beefeater, or Bombay Sapphire... Suddenly you have a new Gin Craze.
No, gin has changed enormously, and the resurgence of cocktails in the food and drink scene has resulted in tons of people in their 20s taking interest in Gin. It's not 60 yr old accountants slopping gin in their tea at luch from a bottle with Yeoman of the Guard shilling it on the bottle label anymore.
I have been a car guy my whole life and as a result watched top gear and later the grand tour. I have to say though, these guys and the trio as a whole are the reason I loved both. This has to be one of my favorite “what’s next” videos topped only by the Lego drinking challenge. I genuinely feel like if what’s next covers all the topics Richard talked about in the last video and adds the banter of 2 or 3 of them then they are on to something. Things I love plus them makes me happy.
It's every time a pleasure to see you guys. It's fun and entertainment on a higher level. Well, you're British, and the British sense of humor is special. What I know about it, it's so many, but could say: never cheap, solid and often with little dose ironic. I hope could taste the gin on a gin tasting, before I buy it. I think nothing is more bad than buying something, specially drinks, and than you realise, it was a bad idea. The price you call is, I think, realistic. Splendid post chaps, the botanical Richard is on about in River Test Gin is Meadowsweet, they do also use Angelica as well, but Meadowsweet grows in boggy damp ground neat clear rivers. I have had bottles of both Asian Parsnip and the Navy Strength and they are great gins.

As I recall, the Gin botanical Richard is talking about is called Meadowsweet. I'm sure I remember hearing the name on some documentary or something years ago. I googled the name and it seems to fit Hammond's description in that it grows in clean chalk streams and The River Test Disillary use it in their London Dry Gin.

Maybe this particular Meadowsweet is "rare" not because the plant itself is rare but because water that clean is rare and that makes it taste better or something. Or maybe he is either confusing it with something or just plain ol' misinformed. Either way my money is on Meadowsweet
l genuinely love watching interactions between Hammond, May & Clarkson as there is a unique magic to them that that 3 can only bring to a conversation that bring joy to my life but they make me sad at the same time because l know each one is one closer to the last one which will be a great loss. Hope we have many more decades of Hammond, May & Clarkson sunsets before the sun sets for the last time.
This is what gets me, it doesn't matter the mix. Be it Jeremy and James, James and Hammond, Hammond and Jeremy or all three. The chemistry just works. They are thoroughly enjoyable regardless.

I'm a Gin drinker as well, love the stuff neat or with tonic. Will check out James's stuff. I always liked the story that British soldiers back in the Napoleonic era would get a mug of Gin before their battle.
These guys with Jezza are the Holy Trinity of anything they do, although cracking me up you actually listen intently to everything they see, they all definitely have a unique aura about them. When I watched the first episode of Grand Tour and they met up on the highway in the Red, White and Blue Mustangs it was like meeting three very old friends again and it was great. Keep it up lads

Common hiccups are usually caused by trapped air causing contractions of the diaphragm.
Holding your breath works for some people but it depends how they do it.
What you actually need to do is breathe in, tense your diaphragm, and then slowly breathe out while keeping your diaphragm tense, releasing the trapped air while also resetting any diaphragm spasms.
That's what Hammond seems to be doing.
I can attest to the quality of James's Gin. Bought one of the first signed batch and as a non G&T afficionado absolutely loved it. When I gave it to my mum who is a proper G&T fan she said it was brilliant. I didn't tell her where it came from. Could have been a £20 bottle for all she knew. Unfortunately it's all gone and I'll need to buy more.
£20 bottles? I'd be alcoholic if I could find some.

James' gin is overpriced. It just really does not make sense to pay that much for gin.

That banter is what made Top Gear and Grand Tour (and everything in between) what it was. They can talk about ANYTHING and you'll want more. AND, it doesn't have to be the three of them together for it to work. Solo projects, Duets like this, its all pure gold.
James and Richard, you don’t know me but you both been present during my life, during when I had my first gin & tonic, also when I had my first drum of whiskey! Not mention other youngsters experience! I admire your approach to life and really appreciate impact you guys made on my life! And this video in addition to all of the moto content you guys share. I really don’t know how to thank for all of this. Simple hello would make my day, probably a year :)
It's crazy thinking back to when I used to watch Top Gear growing up as a kid/teenager and now here I am as a grown (I guess) adult watching a video of James and Richard drinking gin while drinking alongside them. I've enjoyed everything these guys have produced and I doubt there's anything they could be a part of which I wouldn't enjoy.
For the love of whatever gods you believe in please do more of these. We could honestly watch and listen to these two for hours.
Richard is spot-on about the river Test being a chalk stream. They're fed by aquifers so they don't have much seasonal change to them and they're remarkably clear. Fun fact, of the 210 worldwide rivers classified as chalk streams, 160 are located in England.

Please do more of this, I was starting to feel like I was actually there with you. And regarding what Mr Hammond could do I believe that you've already done it, you mastered the art of surviving serious car accidents, admittedly it's a difficult thing to share with others but nevertheless it's a remarkable achievement that must be acknowledged.
Fun fact: Loads of new Gin brands popped up in Ireland over the last several years. Most of these are new distillers awaiting licenses to make whiskey (an excellent investment). Gin is very easy to produce. The sheer choice and marketing of this modern gin had a big effect on how trendy it is.
Having said that gin is a superb beverage.
makes sense, same behavior in the U.S. Get out a few quick products while the real barrel aged products take their time. Though the real gimmick in the US is blending other people's stuff then slapping your label on it.
I think these two have had a bromance for years. There's a genuine bond between them and I really enjoy listening to their chats. James' voice is comforting to listen to.

I don't think they've quite made the leap to the fact that Gin hasn't changed, they've just become old.
No, gin is very fashionable. I work with a bunch of 20/30-something nurses, and all they drink is gin and prosecco. It's not an old person's drink now.
It's fashionable now because the Gin Act of 1751, which prohibited small Gin Distilleries in London, was repealed in 2008.
Thanks to that act being repealed, small volume craft gin distilleries were now legal.
Couple that with Gin being mentioned in popular TV shows like The Crown & Downtown Abbey and bartenders now having more gin options than Gordon's, Beefeater, or Bombay Sapphire... Suddenly you have a new Gin Craze.

No, gin has changed enormously, and the resurgence of cocktails in the food and drink scene has resulted in tons of people in their 20s taking interest in Gin. It's not 60 yr old accountants slopping gin in their tea at luch from a bottle with Yeoman of the Guard shilling it on the bottle label anymore.
I have been a car guy my whole life and as a result watched top gear and later the grand tour. I have to say though, these guys and the trio as a whole are the reason I loved both. This has to be one of my favorite “what’s next” videos topped only by the Lego drinking challenge. I genuinely feel like if what’s next covers all the topics Richard talked about in the last video and adds the banter of 2 or 3 of them then they are on to something. Things I love plus them makes me happy.
Elegant crisp tones, discerning, intelligent conversation with subtle wit and humorous articulation. You try getting that with "Paddeh" and "Freddeh".
It's every time a pleasure to see you guys. It's fun and entertainment on a higher level. Well, you're British, and the British sense of humor is special. What I know about it, it's so many, but could say: never cheap, solid and often with little dose ironic.
I hope could taste the gin on a gin tasting, before I buy it. I think nothing is more bad than buying something, specially drinks, and than you realise, it was a bad idea.
The price you call is, I think, realistic. Not too much, and it shows you "Your not buying a Gin like many others".

Splendid post chaps, the botanical Richard is on about in River Test Gin is Meadowsweet, they do also use Angelica as well, but Meadowsweet grows in boggy damp ground neat clear rivers. I have had bottles of both Asian Parsnip and the Navy Strength and they are great gins.

As I recall, the Gin botanical Richard is talking about is called Meadowsweet. I'm sure I remember hearing the name on some documentary or something years ago. I googled the name and it seems to fit Hammond's description in that it grows in clean chalk streams and The River Test Disillary use it in their London Dry Gin.
I had the same thought, although it could also be a subspecies of Angelica, as Meadowsweet isn't all that rare

@@Mjws2907 Yeah that threw me too. Upon second viewing, I caught that when James specifically mentions Angelica Root, Richard says "No, It was Meadow-something...". Maybe this particular Meadowsweet is "rare" not because the plant itself is rare but because water that clean is rare and that makes it taste better or something. Or maybe he is either confusing it with something or just plain ol' misinformed. Either way my money is on Meadowsweet
l genuinely love watching interactions between Hammond, May & Clarkson as there is a unique magic to them that that 3 can only bring to a conversation that bring joy to my life but they make me sad at the same time because l know each one is one closer to the last one which will be a great loss. Hope we have many more decades of Hammond, May & Clarkson sunsets before the sun sets for the last time.
Please, let them continue for ever! They really are so perfect together. whoever got them together deserves a medal.
This is what gets me, it doesn't matter the mix. Be it Jeremy and James, James and Hammond, Hammond and Jeremy or all three. The chemistry just works. They are thoroughly enjoyable regardless.

I'm a Gin drinker as well, love the stuff neat or with tonic. Will check out James's stuff. I always liked the story that British soldiers back in the Napoleonic era would get a mug of Gin before their battle.
These guys with Jezza are the Holy Trinity of anything they do, although cracking me up you actually listen intently to everything they see, they all definitely have a unique aura about them. When I watched the first episode of Grand Tour and they met up on the highway in the Red, White and Blue Mustangs it was like meeting three very old friends again and it was great. Keep it up lads
