I have a hunch, one of the first updates for the V1 Gen 2 will be to add the knob back. Perhaps they did not have the knob ready or just wanted to see how the V1 loyal community felt about no knob. It seems quite apparent most MISS the knob. The power button is right where the knop was on the v1 gen 1???

V1's big draw for many years was their detector would never be obsolete that it could be updated infinite-um,

i've been using V1 for just under 20 years now... old school driver compared to most people on youtube. i last upgraded my V1 back in 2014 and been in love with it. recently, i found out the uniden might be much better. i was very glad and happy i did not buy the Uniden after seeing the V1 gen2 come out. Very exciting news for me. People in the comments are mentioning Theia, which I am grateful for because i have never heard of it until now. I googled it and Now I will wait for that before i decide to upgrade or not.

I'm an OG V1 owner and I think the issue with the laser warning you're facing with the Gen 2 is a carry over from the old. I noticed it's triggered when touching the front or rear sensors.
I'm also OG V1 owner for almost 20 years now and I havent gotten too many false laser warning... my issue is with K band and I have X band disabled

I receive my new valentine1 gen2 damaged (a dent) right out of the box. I did not realize it until The front panel unglued half way not even 24 hours in my car. When my wife spoke to the owner, he made it clear that the unit was not shipped with that condition, basically calling me a liar. God is my witness! I did not damage the unit! If anyone is planning on getting one, Please look at it VERY thoroughly. I wish I could send you guys pics of what I'm referring to. I'm not new to valentine. I have a 1992 unit that I am very happy with.
Seem to remember one of the rdf forum discussions years ago going over the patents mentioning that one of them eliminated the need for Ka guard by the incorporation of a band pass filter or something similar.

Funny...especially when you consider that Mike Valentine is one of the people who put Escort/Passport on the map.
Theia gonna smash this thing. Seems obsolete from the start. Unless it really smashes range out of the park my bet is used V1 is the better deal for those not looking to lay out serious cash for a detector.
I have R7 and have tested Gen 2 for past 2 days. BSM Filtering is better than R-7. K Band door openers is the same in terms of distance and overall freq of alerts. X band alerts around where I work is same distance and freq. With Full Logic mode on and X Band off it is fine. No laser alerts yet.
3rd Day: BSM filter is very good....better than Pro M. KA on straight road about the same as R- Series. No Apps running.

If you are speeding, and looking for 6 or 8 slashes when the it goes off, you are probably not going fast enough. All I need is the arrow, counter, and direction. Slash marks are not needed, you can hear it in the tone... Still a V1 loyalist, but still.. at this point, I'm leaning toward the r7.
What does this mean? Confused on what you were trying to say? What do you mean by slashes?
I'm glad that I found you guys; for too long it seemed that all of the online "testers" were more interested in proving that the RD THEY sold was the best. So far, you seem to be fair and honest.
I've been a V1 user since the mid 90s, and I received my Gen 2 just before they officially shipped. I don't know this for a fact, but since this is the 5th or 6th V1 that I have purchased (long stories in why so many vs updates) I wonder if I got ahead of the line by a day or two. IDK...
I have not really tested Gen 2 yet, but Ka seems much more sensitive. I like that the old power cords (mine was/is hardwired to sit on the top left of the RVM) didn't change, and that many "add ons" (bluetooth, BOB etc.) are built-in now.
I miss the old control knob/mute control, but after some time MAYBE I will like the new setup.
Anyway, thanks for restoring my faith (at least so far) in online RD tests.
A comprehensive overview of the different apps would be cool.
I guess this explains why their website has been out of stock forever. This new model still isn't up though. I don't understand how they could go for so long not having any product to sell.

Based on your videos, I decided to upgrade to the Gen2, so I sent in my V1 for the 110 credit. I didn't want to hassle with ePray or Craig List. I'll disable X-band and Laser and use my OBD SAVVY and party-on. By the way, I watched two of your videos on the Gen2, and I listened to your interview with Mike Valentine. However, it wasn't clear to me how software/firmware updates are accomplished, e.g. via Bluetooth alone or with the iPhone/Android app. Please clarify BTW, I like your videos, and unlike some other RD reviews, your delivery is thorough, easy to listen to, and professionally produced. If I can ever figure out how to use 'Super Chat' and donate, I will.
It’ll be with an app. Bluetooth is how the phone communicates with the RD. Congrats on the upgrade!

None of the above. According to this guy joe rizoz, the R3 is the best one to get.
But in my opinion, the V1 Gen1 is better than the Gen2

For what it is worth, I have not seen any local (city/county) police in Northern Virginia with Spectre RDDs. I’m guessing it is predominately used by the VSP. But the VSP does operate a lot of unmarked vehicles as well, so beware.
Bart Youngblood yes it’s mainly the troopers who use it. I’m in Richmond and no local police use it.
I have an iPhone XS Max. When I go on long drives I connect my cars audio to my phones Bluetooth so I can listen to Spotify. Can I be connected via Bluetooth to my cars audio system and to the V1 Gen 2 iOS app at the same time?
Button sticks straight out the box and false alerted just as he hoped it would not and then the button got stuck again. I will be waiting on Radenso Theia and I will bet my Escort Max360c will out perform the new (V1) 2nd gen.
My one and only gripe ever with the Valentine One was not addressed 😒. I was so happy when I saw the next generation concepts with the arrows updated more importantly the rear arrow. I guess I have OCD, but the fact that the rear arrow isn’t the same size as the front arrow. Aghhh! Why didn’t they make the arrows more like the concepts, especially the one with the even sized arrows all around. Radar detector gods you didn’t hear me!
Is the outer housing still magnesium or did they change it to plastic to increase profit?

That is so cool that you found the button defect cuz if you accidentally we're pulling it from the case or something and it got pushed in like that ,then you plugged it in and didn't notice it ,and it was just stuck on like that and not doing anything. wow that is so cool but that's poor craftsmanship for Valentine One cuz that's all I've ever used!!!!!!!

I would very much like to see the V1 gen2 against the Uniden R7. I think the V1 looks more user friendly but from what I’ve herd the R7 out performs the old V1.
Do the mounts for the old V1 work on the new one? They look like that they did even if they resigned them a little. I have mine mounted and it would be great if they could use the same mount.
I tried it in the video and no, they don't. Blendmounts are still compatible, but not the V1's and the mounts themselves.

I was able to push custom sweeps to my new V1 and change settings on the V1 connection app not sure why yours is not working
Is there a way to mute my Pioneer car stereo when my V1 detects a bogey? Does the V1 have a wired output signal that I can utilize for radio muting? Or, can I use my iPhone via bluetooth to accomplish this?

Does the power button need to be pushed to activate upon each use, or does the detector behave like the original by coming on when the ignition is activated?
Leave it on and it will come on when you turn on the ignition.
It's beyond me why they would put the RJ11 port on the right when they offer SAVVY as a super clean power option. With the detector at the top-left of the windshield, a left-side RJ11 would have allowed the cable to disappear straight down the A-pillar. Instead it's got to stick out.
Are the mounts interchangeable between Gen1 & Gen2?
i.e. will the Gen2 V1 work with the Gen1 suction cup mount?
Nope. You can still use the same Blendmount clip, but the V1 mounts themselves are not interchangeable.

@@MrJoefoefrombuffalo I'd probably try and sell it first. That's what I'll most likely do with my gen1 in the future. $110 is kinda stupid in my opinion. It's basically them just knocking off the $100 increase in price to get it back down to $400.

Why would they? That's like admitting the competition is right!
They can't without paying royalties to Escort. And the third party apps are doing more things than an OEM could ever hope to.
@FartManly On board GPS is a hardware not software update.
There's an app you use with your phone to make this work.

I wish they had a powered dock like a dash cam. Also would be nice if they used a type c port. I don't see it is so big. The old v1 is useless in the bay area. Tons of false positives. Many cars have radar and laser in them.

Definitely seems like an upgrade. Curious about performance and BSM. Like my R3 more than my V1, but miss arrows everytime it alerts. R7 fixes that so might buy one. Like seeing speed with gps. I feel they had decades to make the v1 g2 perfect. Should have a screen and update port IMHO. Sending it in for a firmware is way old school and just a cash grab.
BSM Filtering is very good. But those pesky K Band door openers at Slave Mart light it up just like R7.
What is the best detector for the money? I just retired and I bought a sports car. I absolutely know nothing about radar detectors. Please help!!! Thanks.

I buy radar detectors to keep me from getting a ticket. In Florida the maximum ticket amount ( I think) is $200-$300. Why would I want to spend $500 on a detector. The upgrade price is $389. I'm keeping my Gen1 thank you.

I've never understood why the horizontal directional arrow is just one piece. Why aren't there two, separate directional arrows, as in L and R?
It determines front and rear by seeing if the signal is stronger from the front antenna or rear antenna. “Side” arrows mean front and rear signal strength is roughly equal. Unless they also add left and right antennas, it has no way of determining side directions like that, hence the single “side” arrow.

@@VortexRadar we have 2 sets of optical nerves that feed our brains two dimensions yet our brains can take those 2 dimensions and interprets them into THREE dimensions. Mike Valentine is just being lazy. I know he's reading this; get to work Mike.
Cost and platform space
@@natelove187 - I've seen photos of the interior of a V1. It looks like the majority of the interior volume is hollow. There's low-relief circuitry on the board, but not much behind the fascia. Seems like plenty of platform space. So it sounds like V1 is being cheap. 🤷♂️

Not for nothin'... but if it's ready to ship, they should have shipped it WITH a manual. OLED can burn in or burn out over time. What it has is reliable.
