    LOVE the new V1 and I really enjoy utilizing many of the benefits of JBV1. It is obvious much imagination has gone into development. Love "profiles" so I can just mute K band at home where these is no usage but with a profile setting to activate K band in SC is awesome. Of all my detectors, it is the quietest on the road among all the BSM. Thanks for your guidance!!

    Hey Vortex, as a 2 year / 120,000+ mile user of JBV1, I think you did a great video on some of the highlights and features of these apps. You could easily have gone on for another 20 minutes with all of the possibilities.
    It's wild to see people here accusing you of favoritism towards Valentine. Who would have thought their perception would be so different?
    Thanks for covering the info!

      heh yeah I’ve got a JBV1 setup video planned. I know someone working on 3 hours of JBV1 tutorial videos as well.
      I figured it was just a matter of time before people started accusing me of favoritism, being paid off, etc. It’s happened with Uniden, Radenso, Escort, ALP, and so on every time I say “Hey they’re great because of X, Y, and Z.” I guess it comes with the territory. I’m sure it’ll happen again when Theia is released, assuming it’s great too. :p

    Another option now that android head units are becoming more common would be to install and run JBV1 or any of these apps on your cars head unit. I did that, even though I also use an android phone. Installed JBV1 on an eonon head unit and have been really happy with it.

    It is true that when your detector sings all the time you can become complacent and ignore legitimate radar amongst all the noise but I believe there are a couple of benefits to seeing everything that’s going on. One is that you know your RD is actually working. The other is are more aware of what’s going on in your area. It is personal preference for sure. Make your RD more quite but risk missing police radar or error on the side of safety with all the distractions.

    I got a new Samsung TABA 8" (2019) version at Costco 32 gig version which also came with a 32 gig MicroSD card for $90. This price going until I think the end of Dec 2020. I use my iPhone as a Personal Hotspot which I get 3Gig's with T-Mobile, which slows down if I go past that. But that should be far more than enough for how much JBV1 uses Data wise.
    I'm still learning how to use the App. I got this OHLPRO Car Tablet Mount Holder from Amazon for about $15. It works pretty good.
    There can do so much going on with JBV1 that having it running on a larger screen really helps. While I think a 10" version screen is a little large, the 8" screen of the tablet I have is a perfect size. Not too big or too small. It's a little extra work to set up at the start. I have to get my Tablet connected to my iPhone, put it in its mount and then start up the app. So that can be a bit of a hassle, and maybe not worth it on a short drive. But JBV1 with your V1 I think is the most powerful setup you can have for a Radar detector.

    Vortex as someone who left critical, yet I feel constructive views on the new V1 on your previous videos, I feel that you made a really compelling argument for rethinking my stance on the Gen 2. I guess my only gripe left is why didn't Mike Valentine and his engineers build this fantastic functionality into their detector, or at least their new app. I'm speaking as an iPhone user so my focus relates to the V1 Driver app. They really should have found a way to acquire or get the V1 Driver on the payroll. They had so much time to plan out and engineer the new detector.

    Semi ignorant question for you or anyone with knowledge. I have a couple of really old valentine gen ones from 15-20 years ago. But here I see people talk about the gen 1 as still viable. Were there multiple v1's with various options over the years? Mine does not have Bluetooth so can that be added and then add the app or is mine just too old with old tech, which I assume is the case. But would love to hear to verify. Currently on the Fence between a uniden 7 or a V1 sec gen (if mine is too old) and the app. Many thanks.

    I run a R3 I love it I wish it had the auto lock out feature but I do it manually the problem with the GPS on your phone is your data plan and you’re constantly using data and your charge for that therefore I will never use a GPS app phone That’s why I like it built into my radar detector hopefully soon the R3 Ward get the auto lock out feature

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your phone doesn’t need data for lockouts. It does need power though, but if you keep it plugged in while driving, that takes care of that. I agree that built in is certainly more convenient. As for the R3, apparently it doesn’t have enough memory built in to support autolockouts. The R7 does though.

    Hey vortex, and greater radar detecting community,
    I have a question. I currently own a Valentine one gen one radar detector. I am thinking about upgrading to this new generation two unit! I want all of the features that I see in all of your videos.
    But, the problem is my new Google Pixel 4 XL hasradar facial recognition built into the phone. It is like the iPhones facial recognition, but for some reason my current Valentine one picks up a ton of laser notifications as I drive and my phone is just sitting on my lap. I'm wondering if the new Valentine one generation two will also pick up laser threats from a cell phone that sits on my lap and shoots that frequency in the upward direction.
    vortex, do you think that this will be a similar issue on the new generation two unit?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I don't know, but given that the V1's false to laser quite a bit even without a Pixel 4 XL on your dash, your best bet is probably just to shut off laser detection on the V1 altogether and rely on laser jammers for proper levels of protection.

    @Vortex I think its time to make videos for other detectors in range between 100$ to 350$ maybe. We all know that 500$+ detectors are the best, but i think that cheapest detectors also do their job and we need to view their performance in video, not only on tables. I missed your videos when you compare many detectors in real videos, not only top rds.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve done that in the past. Most cheap detectors suck so I tend to stay away. If you want a cheap detector, the DFR7 has been the go-to that I always have recommended in that range. It’s going away and being replaced by the DFR9, but the R3 at $299 is a much better detector for only a little more money than the DFR9 and so that’s the one I recommend for $300.
