Hi Michelle… big fan of you and Dr Sean Hashmi … i’v had stage 4 kidney failure for more than 10 years… diabetes n HBP … but have been following you n Doctor for the last year or more … I had the “D” conversation with my doctor for the 2nd time in 10 years (GFR was 14)so switched nephrologist and I started watching you and the doctor… And my GFR today is 24… Yay Us!!!! So thank you and you and the doctor are much appreciated ❤
First thing I did when I found out I had stage 3 kidney disease is to look things up on google so to hear someone who knows for sure what is the best foods to avoid eating is so much better so thank you, i hadn’t touched a banana or orange since, It was very hard for me to make a food list at the time because I had high cholesterol too and low blood pressure, I lost so much weight not eating everything and now 10 months on my cholesterol is good and blood pressure better, I feel healthier too.
I am so glad you are feeling better and healthier! It can be so stressful figuring out what to eat so I am glad you have been able to figure it out and also improve cholesterol and blood pressure
Your E-Guide describing which products are without potassium and/or phosphorus has been a huge help in narrowing food product selections. Thank you so much for providing this lifesaving and timesaving information.
I always like watching you. You give good advice. Thanks to God and watching programs like this and my diet, my kidneys are normal now. I still eat avocados, bananas other fruits even when I saw videos saying not to, good you think the same. I just listen to my heart. Thanks 👍
I have a short video on salt: th-cam.com/video/3wDCK2npwA8/w-d-xo.html And then all my recipes are low sodium! I can definitely do more videos though on sticking to a low sodium diet.
Yes! You definitely need to ensure adequate calories! Whole, plant foods are nutrient dense and often not calorie dense. So including healthy fats like nuts, seeds, and avocado (amount and which ones will be based on potassium needs). You can use olive oil and avocado oil to add calories to lower calorie dishes (like veggies). Fruit and whole grains can pack more calories. I have a video on this as well: th-cam.com/video/sZA6YnbPzNU/w-d-xo.html and would highly recommend working 1:1 with a renal dietitian so they can help ensure you're eating enough and the right types of food to gain weight and prevent more weight loss!
Avocados are a higher potassium food. So if you have a potassium restriction, you may need to limit the portion. But that doesn't mean the food is completely off limits! 1/4 of an avocado is ~ 175 mg potassium.
