I agree. Much prefer the 21-22 model years. By the way, the missing button is “adaptive”, not the exhaust. You get the adaptive button with the adjustable suspension. And I agree it’s worth it’s weight in gold… would not get one without it. Also, don’t pause after saying “hey BMW” just ask whatever you want. You quickly realize that massively helps its understanding of what you said. And the voice activation is actually quite good compared to most cars.
2020 M340i xdrive owner here. I leased mine during the pandemic so i could only buy off the lot. For that reason I don’t have the mag dampers which i think was a rare option. I think the ride is great, the run flat tires are the stiffest part about it. With non run flats i think the ride would be perfect. I have many video of it on my channel. I was lucky to find one in Potimao Blue which i think is the best color for this car. I probably won’t get this press car until 2023. Great video
Subscriber to your channel as well. I have an early 2021, also in Portimao Blue. I also had to forego the adaptive dampers as none where available at the time in the color. However, I replaced the runflats with 245/40r19 Comp2 A/S’s to both get a little more meat on the sidewall for Long Island winters / potholes and get a little more tire (the 225’s to me are a little too narrow for the car). It smoothed out the ride. I do still think the rebound over taller bumps can be a little harsh / weird. I have noticed that on other BMWs though in the past. That’s the one criticism I have about the suspension that I hope the adaptive would fix.
I just took delivery of mine this past Friday and got winter wheels/tires today and can confirm I got the Continental Winter Contact TS 860S SSR. They came on the 898M wheels. If someone already mentioned this in the comments, sorry for the repeat info.

BMW has absolutely nailed the LCI on the 3 series; the front end is bold and muscular and the curved screen simply stunning. It captures the sprit of the ultimate daily driving machine better than any 3-series sedan before it. And for all the haters, I couldn’t give half a shit about the shifter or the damn temp knobs, seriously now…
We really experienced a golden age of cars for the last 5-10 years. The best ICE will ever offer. Can’t help but feel like things are going backwards now. But hopefully in another 10 years electric cars will be way more impressive than they are now.
Feel like my 2017 F80 M3 will be the newest, if not last, BMW I ever own. They are definitely catering the latest iDrive8 to the “screen generation”. Seems almost all auto manufacturers are going this route. I understand from a business perspective, but it is alienating a segment of buyers like myself (41M). I will always prefer analog gauges and hard climate buttons. Especially in a performance car.
No, I'm only in my early 20's and I can't stand this touchscreen shit either, and I don't think many others my age particularly enjoy this trend either, can't stand the interior of my dad's Model 3, really just looks like they glued an iPad to a bare dash and called it a day.
I’m 24 and finally making enough to afford these cars and I’ll probably stay 2020 or older. Lack of shifters and hyper focus on screens is a huge turn off
I love this M340i, I think they cleaned it the exterior styling nicely while keeping the same escence of the non refreshed one, but the lack of 1-8 buttons and those not at all integrated screens make me like the non LCI model a little bit more because that was already great and it didn't have the cluttersome infotainment ready to charge you for subscriptions 🙄
You do not want to get in your car on a cold morning with gloves on and be fiddling around with a screen trying to get heated seats, hvac turned up etc. Got a ‘22 X7 and love the control layout over this.
The missing button under the drive mode is "adaptive," you only get that if you optioned with adaptive damper, which the one you guys drove doesn't have it
It actually existed on many "M" (real and fake) BMWs going back to 2017-2018, it *used* to say Sprint, explicitly, but they removed the notification sometime in 2020. It's back now, but yeah, the feature has existed for quite a while.
That big screen looks like an afterthought. It doesnt suit the rest of the interior, which is basically the old one, which they took a hacksaw to, to fit the screen. Also this is BMW, they should have a screen concept, like Porsche did with the Taycan, which still reminds of the typical instrument cluster, even if it is a screen. BMW should keep it sporty like that.
I own two 2022 BMWs and think they are the best brand for daily drivers. That being said, I am really disappointed with the interior changes. Removing favorite buttons and hard button for climate control seems like a major fail. I actually like the exterior styling on this one better but the interior issues make me think this is not an upgrade over the previous years.
Same here with my wife and I but she drives the Mazda to work and her 21’ M is sitting in the garage in an effort to keep the mileage down. We shall see how that goes.
If car manufacturers want to go voice controls, they really need to work with companies that already have good voice recognition models instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.
Im pretty sure all 340i and b58 vehicles already had sprint mode. On my supra you would double tap the throttle to the floor or hold the left paddle and it would automatically put you in the lower gearing for a while.
On the A90 Supra B58, you floor the throttle pedal to the floor until you hit that click for a second then lift off the throttle and it puts you to the lowest gear; in sport mode you go from 5th gear to 3rd gear instantly. This is faster than using the paddle shifter
I agree on he over doing overdoing the screens and getting rid of the hard buttons. The screens can be very distracting to operate. Certainly not helping safety. Most car markets are going down that path.
Just hit 50k miles on my spec'd out '22 M340i and still LOVE it..exactly like the one in your video with Tanzanite Blue II Metallic and Cognac interior 🤌🔥
Great review and I completely agree. I have a 2020 M340i and absolutely love it. It has it all and also a real sleeper on the road. This car is fast and looks great too.
I think it looks great? I never liked that notched headlight design for the previous Gen. It wasn’t that bad but I didn’t like how it broke up the lines. Now it looks sweet!
I'll be picking up an M340i around May next year, and I'm torn between this new LCI model, and the previous one... exterior-wise they're both very nice, I think I'd prefer the bigger screens on iDrive 8, with full screen maps etc, but at the loss of physical heat controls I think its more of a loss overall. Of course warranty would be better on the newer LCI model, but I can still pick up a 2022 pre-LCI one so it'll only be by a few months. Arrgghh why did they get rid of those buttons!
I've ordered a 440d and couldn't care less about the fact that I'll get the facelifted one. Who cares, I'll get used to it. And I'll still have the iDrive controller. So what? For the last 20 years at least, infotainment systems have been progressing and ever gotten better. I remember Navisystems running from CD, without a map. Only an arrow and voice. No thanks, I'll take the latest version.
I wanted to reach through my screen every time Jakub called the pre-LCI version the "previous generation". They're both the same generation G20 platform! The previous gen. is the F30 which he should realize as a professional car reviewer.
I’m a huge bmw fan but I hate what they’re doing with the interior. No shifter, no buttons for basic controls, adding fucking subscriptions to things already installed. The old cars are just so much better
Solid review. I feel like the last gen iDrive and gauge cluster in the pre-LCI looked better than this slapped on tablet and no physical controls is a non-starter
How is Sprint mode an improvement? What happened to 'Adaptive' drive mode? You didn't have to pull a paddle and then stomp the pedal. You just smashed the pedal. Why the extra step??
Thanks for the review. I'm a first time BMW owner, and I got a 2023 BMW M340i. However, 2 weeks after getting the car, my car starts to show driver-train malfunction issues. Is this only me, or do other people have similar issues? My car is sitting in the dealer for months waiting for a repair part while the dealer can only provide a downgraded rental car for me. If I buy such a car next time I would consider the service and reliability of the dealership and car. The car is otherwise pretty good.
I traded my 2016 Camaro for 2020 M340i (as I needed a sedan), purely based on ur previous review on this car!! Can’t think of any better option to not miss my Camaro, specially after installing Dinnan Exhaust :)
It's just so wholesome and amazing that you got SXM to sponsor you. I've been watching y'all from the very first viral video (android auto vs apple car play) and to have a brand that you've loved for so long to sponsor you must be the best feeling. It's been great to see you grow. :) Love you guys!
Bought a 2023…buttons don’t matter too much once you set the temperature you want. The favorite buttons still function really well. Love it. Just wish I had the burbles :/
@@Qooleys I did notice I get some pops and burbles. I thought they were all fake until I was driving with the windows down. Still don’t care about the buttons though. I drove a preLCI loaner from BMW and I really didn’t like the button layout at all. My wife thought it was overwhelming. The 1-8 programmable were cool but not a game changer
IMO- You guys are wrong. This is a better looking car than the previous model. I own a 2020 330i- when my lease is up I’ll be trading for a new m340i. May as well get over the digital interior- it’s what the world is coming to. Ordered the car with adaptive suspension (even the sport suspension on my 330i was a little too rough) and yes (you can get) heated seats.
How long term reliability you want? 20 years and 2 million miles? Because B58 has been in production for 7 years now and I have seen over 400 000km driven cars.
This is still the only gas car I would buy if I decided to sell my '22 Model 3 Performance. Kind of bugs they went with an all touchscreen user experience, but I've already gotten kind of used to that with the Tesla. But that doesn't mean I love it...I've just gotten used to it.
My current U.K.-spec 2020 M340i (like my 2018 440i Coupe before) has adaptive dampers but also has physical menu shortcut buttons that are SO useful. This alone (apart from the ugly new dashboard and worse looking headlights) would stop me buying the LCI 3-Series!
it’s talking about the active opening/closing kidney grilles. they close for efficiency when not needed and open up for better airflow when you start to get on it.
as a senior in college, I know that the only BMW I ever buy will be from 2018 and previous, their new vehicles are not worth the prices they charge, and honestly I am more of an Audi fan as BMW continues in this weird direction.
I have an x3 m40i with the previous infotainment and everything just works minus having to turn off start/stop every time but at least there’s a physical button. The pre LCI touring version of this car would be my ideal daily but alas, I’m in the USA.
All of the improvements are good. The mild hybrid is excellent as it makes for smoother gear changes. I8 is easy to use..I think you underestimate how much better this car is over the earlier version. Voice control is good if you speak clearly.
It’s going to be so much more difficult to drift and do donuts now that they got rid of the drive selector since you will now be forced to use the paddles for shifting manually instead of the drive selector.
Yup! Glad to see someone mentioning this. I dont mind the infotainment changes or exterior changes, but if I had to choose I’d go with a 20-22 because of the physical shifter
This. My only experience with the LCI was youtube videos and I couldn't help thinking the pre-LCI was better. When I finally sat in one, all the design changes just made sense. The touchscreen looked great, and the lack of buttons and gear stick just looked so clean
The front looks nice on these, but cannot get over the rear with that overpowering diffuser. I'm glad I got my 2020 pre mild hybrid because the burbles make the driving experience that much more fun
I agree. I have found the LCI models over the last three generations to be much nicer than pre-LCI, however there’s always the opposite camp that feels just as strongly. I’m starting to think BMW has been quite clever about this. Pre-LCI targets Group A and alienates Group B, then the LCI does the reverse, rinse repeat every generation.
Noooo ofcourse they got rid of the Halobutton the button to push and hold to turn off all assistance systems... what a shame... but i knew it was coming just like in the i4... that was something i really loved about bmw. Nothing worse then searching for things like this in the infotainment system especially while driving.
I drive a 2009 BMW X6. Instead of clicking buttons and taking my eyes off the road to check if SPRINT MODE is selected - you can just put the SHIFTER one position to the left and you are in sport gearbox mode. No need to take your eyes off the road, there is an audible click and in an automatic car it adds a bot of driving feel. If BMW continue to nerf the ICE cars people will start looking at other brands.
Honestly, BMWs still having hard buttons and the 1-8 favourite keys was a huge reason I own one. Touchscreens are pure shite to use while driving. The last BMW they make with hard buttons will be the last BMW I own.
I have a 2019 BMW X1 that's fully optioned and I customized a lot of stuff including 19" summer wheels and tires, sound system, custom programming including engine, intake, better brakes, adaptive dampers, self parking and a few other goodies including HUD; yet I can't wait for the hybrid iX1. Much better ergonomics, better interior and bigger vehicle. You guys nailed it though on this new 3 series. I'm a sub for SiriusXM and I love the app on my phone too. You guys are fun to watch. So I gather you did this review during our beautiful and unexpectedly warm fall weather. You have to admit though, BMW know how to make a steering wheel; one of the best in the industry. It's nice and thick making it easy to hold, nice looking and with buttons that control almost everything.
As a 2019 330i owner, I think the new interior is much worse- no HVAC controls, ugly bolt-on screens, sawed off gearshift- what's next- a backward facing tach....oh... never mind
Yeah, not a huge fan of this LCI 3. I just picked up a 2021 Certified M340i last month, specifically because I like the looks of the pre-LCI one more, and because of the actual shifter which provides much more versatility than the rocker switch.
Removing tactile inputs and adding this plastic screen...deal breaker. I'm buying a car in the next month or two. @bmw can you pls leave an option for a traditional dashboard.

Yes but Sprint mode is a real mode now that puts you back in the previous drive mode
Please correct the spelling of your car's name: Zupr4
@@TheStraightPipes Sprint mode always existed you guys just found it out. :(
How exactly do you “double tap” the throttle (without significant implications)?
On the A90 Supra B58, you floor the throttle pedal to the floor until you hit that click for a second then lift off the throttle and it puts you to the lowest gear; in sport mode you go from 5th gear to 3rd gear instantly. This is faster than using the paddle shifter
I agree on he over doing overdoing the screens and getting rid of the hard buttons. The screens can be very distracting to operate. Certainly not helping safety. Most car markets are going down that path.
IMO this one looks sharper and nicer from the outside
Just hit 50k miles on my spec'd out '22 M340i and still LOVE it..exactly like the one in your video with Tanzanite Blue II Metallic and Cognac interior 🤌🔥
Only gripe about the lci is the ruined rear with the gloss black. Looks like a smile and I can’t unsee it.
Great review and I completely agree. I have a 2020 M340i and absolutely love it. It has it all and also a real sleeper on the road. This car is fast and looks great too.
me too. I LOVE my 2020 M340I.🥰😍🤩
Does the 2020 share the same engine as the Supra?
2020 looks better than 2023... I think it's been long enough to make such a statement. I personally hate the double eye.
Spot on! BMW suffering from long COVID-19 with these new product specs...
I think the exterior is an excellent update, nearly flawless.
I think it looks great? I never liked that notched headlight design for the previous Gen. It wasn’t that bad but I didn’t like how it broke up the lines. Now it looks sweet!
The pre LCI was definitely the odd one out in the whole lineup. Introduced a new design that they abandoned in the end.
The new headlights look considerably better. Very nice upgrade here.
Go pre-LCI
@Aced yup that big screen isn’t integrated at all. Just stuck an iPad on the dash.
@@jrsarchy what's the difference with iDrive8?
@@jrsarchy I agree with those, I was curious by your comment that iD7 has "full screen maps"? Doesn't iD8 too?
Ah you guys are back together! ❤
Always and forever ❤️
I traded my 2016 Camaro for 2020 M340i (as I needed a sedan), purely based on ur previous review on this car!! Can’t think of any better option to not miss my Camaro, specially after installing Dinnan Exhaust :)
Oh man that exhaust transforms any 340 to a beast
It's just so wholesome and amazing that you got SXM to sponsor you. I've been watching y'all from the very first viral video (android auto vs apple car play) and to have a brand that you've loved for so long to sponsor you must be the best feeling. It's been great to see you grow. :) Love you guys!
Just in time as my pre facelift m340i arrives
You win the lottery
I won a set of wheels the pretty good
E90s was the last good 3 series when it comes to handling and style. I’m glad I drove the e90 335i before they got changed to electric steering.
The F30 was a great looking car (that's why I bought one), but yeah, in terms of dynamics and being a drivers car the E90 completely stuffs it.
This is cool and all, but I'm still waiting for the review on the base trim Chevy Spark.
Bought a 2023…buttons don’t matter too much once you set the temperature you want. The favorite buttons still function really well. Love it.
Just wish I had the burbles :/
same! I love my 2023 especially the screen but I just miss pre lci pops and how loud it was.
The “Sprint” mode on this reminds me of how Hyundai did the N-Boost thing
The blank button below the drive modes is for “Adaptive” mode with those dampers. The exhaust button is on the M3
Drive too many bmws lol
After comparing a number of your videos, I do prefer 24fps over the 60fps you've used recently. Makes it look more professional and cinematic.
60 was a fun experiment. 24 is back
IMO- You guys are wrong.
I have a 2021 330i and have no desire to upgrade. It's such a nice car as is. Nothing about this LCI model strikes me as a worthy improvement.
I'll be interested to see the long term reliability of the B58, given how many cars have it.
How long term reliability you want? 20 years and 2 million miles?
Because B58 has been in production for 7 years now and I have seen over 400 000km driven cars.
@@DuBstep115 nah nothing crazy like that haha. Just enough to have a good reputation as being reliable. Can't speak for the rest of those cars though.
@@ethandavis204 they already have that, usually engines with lots of tuning headroom are fairly reliable at stock levels as a result
Thanks God I got the 2021 interior. Physical button for heated my seat and gauge cluster have an active map instead of that diamond shape rpm and mph.
This is still the only gas car I would buy if I decided to sell my '22 Model 3 Performance. Kind of bugs they went with an all touchscreen user experience, but I've already gotten kind of used to that with the Tesla. But that doesn't mean I love it...I've just gotten used to it.
I love that the left paddle shifts it down to the lowest available gear. My Mercedes does the same thing although it’s an awful slow transmission.
They should include original BMW gauge graphics as an option
Agree with not being able to find a comfortable position in the seat. The side bolsters on the base of the seat don't allow for a comfy thigh spot
My current U.K.-spec 2020 M340i (like my 2018 440i Coupe before) has adaptive dampers but also has physical menu shortcut buttons that are SO useful. This alone (apart from the ugly new dashboard and worse looking headlights) would stop me buying the LCI 3-Series!
in South Africa we have light-up kidney grills for the pre-facelift 3 series, they call it Mzansi edition.
Wild
22 looks so much better.
it’s talking about the active opening/closing kidney grilles. they close for efficiency when not needed and open up for better airflow when you start to get on it.
If they would have just updated the exterior and I drive 8 but WITH BUTTONS it would be the BEST
as a senior in college, I know that the only BMW I ever buy will be from 2018 and previous, their new vehicles are not worth the prices they charge, and honestly I am more of an Audi fan as BMW continues in this weird direction.
What were BMW thinking with those massive grills 😔 This looks heaps better 👌
You think this refresh looks better than the 2022 version? What kind of crack are you smoking?
This looks dated
@@forzanerazzurri2339 compared to?
@@forzanerazzurri2339 nope
fully agree. This LCI is just a cost saving measure. No more laser lights either.
8:30, you know what i am getting ready for?? Buying used old cars and getting them fixed so i dont have to put up with ‘’the great reset.’’
I have an x3 m40i with the previous infotainment and everything just works minus having to turn off start/stop every time but at least there’s a physical button. The pre LCI touring version of this car would be my ideal daily but alas, I’m in the USA.
And also the auto start stop for the lci turns off your a/c when you're sitting in traffic. The auto start stop button is very much cherished.
All of the improvements are good. The mild hybrid is excellent as it makes for smoother gear changes. I8 is easy to use..I think you underestimate how much better this car is over the earlier version. Voice control is good if you speak clearly.
How does this car perform in heavy rain. Should l be afraid of driving it in a seriously water logged road?
Honestly, what do you need cooled seats for in Canada? 😅
You'd be surprised. They used to say the same thing about A/C.
Didnt like how it sounded especially the piped sound. The 2020 soundeed way better with verbals.
BMW; Mercedes; VW: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I think the new interface is more about streamlining production with their electric cars so they can save costs, with any “upgrade” being incidental.
You can retro fit it..many have already
That single piece screen design make it seem like you're sitting inside the ultimate driving laptop.
I will own something b58 wise before I vanish from this earth
it's much better looking from the outside than the pre LCI, but way worse on the inside. Functionally and looks wise
Why even bother spending the extra money for an M3 with this. Plus it doesn’t look ugly

It's worse than ugly. It's fugly!

@@TheStraightPipes And NLA.
They got rid of the hard climate buttons? Ok, I finally figured out why designers are doing this. They're donkeys following fads. Horrible.
The LCI is a big step backwards, in every way.
Loving my 330e with the new full screen and less buttons. It’s so clean
Hmmm… , Sprint mode that sounds exactly like Porsche sport response button 😁
I honestly think this new M340i with the mid-life cycle refresh, looks a little better than the previous.
I can't imagine a heated seat subscription omg
Not a real thing-
I drive a 2009 BMW X6.
Honestly I prefer the exterior of the none LCI
As a 2019 330i owner, I think the new interior is much worse- no HVAC controls, ugly bolt-on screens, sawed off gearshift- what's next- a backward facing tach....oh... never mind
Horrible. I’ll save my 340i 22 for years

Gotta admit.. E90 LCI m sport is still one of the best designs BMW has ever done
