Philip talking about his back getting sweaty hits very close to home for me. Often I’ll end up hurting my shoulder just so that my back doesn’t end up drenched in sweat. I didn’t realise they made bags designed to prevent this.
I might have to get one of those.

  • @_ikako_

As a photography student, i will not go anywhere without a bag. i have my camera bag with slots for lenses and a bit of space for a lunchbox. and i have my "hiking" bag that my dad bought for me pre-covid as i expected to need it for the trips we were going on to Dartmoor. obviously that never happened and i use it for bulk buying milk and other heavy foodstuffs, and i use a carrier bag for the light stuff like bread and chocolate. thank you, phil, for enlightening the uninitiated as to the supremacy of a backpack for shopping. i do look like a dork though, going down to asda with a hiking bag.
also, that's not a rape whistle. it's an sos one. my 70-ish hiking bag has a little graphic in the lid that shows you how to blow in order to signal S.O.S, as well as responding to someone else's whistle.

I bet I make everyone jealous waiting on the train platform with me sitting comfortably on my chair bag while the plebs have to stand. It's not as comfy as other bags since it's heavier and had a chair resting against my back, but having it on for half and hour or an hour is no biggie.

When I was young exploring the woods a lot I used to be attached to my jacket and my bag. I think it's now human instinct to utilise bags. I'm sure we all have a rucksack of some kind in that cupboard we never go in just incase we need to carry something but we should definitely use them more I always find myself, on the rare occasion that I do have to walk somewhere far, I didn't bring a drink or anything to sit down and recoup some energy. Lived in Scotland a long time and was always out in the woods with friends carrying around capri sun's and corrugated iron sheets building bases. Gotta get out more again just go see some things I haven't before since I'm now back in my hometown where I moved away from at 7 and being 25 and knowing much of the local geography is rather frustrating. I learned a lot about my area of Scotland but just didn't bother researching here even though I'm always on Google maps and Google itself lol.

I have a Wisport Sparrow II 30L, and it happens to have straps on the side and on the front, which I tend to utilize to attach my jacket to it without having to stuff it into the backpack.

Canadian hiker here, as an expert from birth (like all Canadians are...) you have some EXCELLENT bags! The liter recommendation has always made me laugh aswell, doing rivier crossings that classification feels more like a threat. Just don't ford any rivers on the way to the store and you should be alright!
