    I remember it being 12 am on a rainy night. I had 6 hours to build a fully operational mousetrap vehicle with only the materials I could scavenge around the house for AP physics the next or I guess the same day. I remember haphazardly cutting bins and looking in places around the house I have never been for mousetraps (I found more mice than traps). But something was missing in the construction of certain parts I knew would take too long to find or create. I would like to thank the old dank knex box which was absolutely covered in rat feces for my salvation. I remember praying to God at 12 am and feeling like a god walking into the campus. I neglected to actually complete the written work which was the whole point of the project, netting me a whopping 60% on the project. I couldn't have been happier.
    Thanks fillips for the trip back into the past.

    I had some K'nex growing up, but it was mostly a small catalog booklet with images of happy screaming children next to massive glowing magic K'nex structures. I spend hours looking at it's art and the things I would never have. It was so captivating, I commend the producers of it because it wasn't an organised set of boxes like Lego booklets, but more like a party.

    Couldn't relate more about the "ticking everything off", "doing it for the love" (because no achievements) and "seeing it the same as back then". That's what I'm currently going through with 'The Warriors' on PCXS2! So good to be filled with heavy doses of nostalgia while playing PS2 games in HD w/ 60 fps!

  • @Garbaz
    @Garbaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Listening to you talk about nostalgia makes me kind of envious. I can't really feel nostalgia, or at least the way it is described always sounds so foreign to me. I have a few childhood memories, even fond ones, but I've never experiences the nice "warm fuzzy" feelings people always mention.
    So enjoy your nostalgia to your hearts content, and enjoy the pleasant feelings, at least as long as your girlfriend doesn't throw you out for playing too much with Knex...

    Hey Phil
    I missed yesterday but did watch the video!
    I actually got the job I applied for 2 days ago! I dont think 5 minutes with phil had any direct result in my job, but I can confirm that the last thing I listened to and watched was 5 minutes with phil before the interview started. Having something that silly i think calmed me down quite a bit and I think the lighter attitude helped in the interview. they laughed at a few of my jokes at least.
    Keep up this series! Its easily my favorite of all your 3 channels. !!!

    Yeah, I really enjoyed the time when I redid the things I used to as a kid. I played club penguin, rewatch Avatar: The Last Airbender, listened to old songs like "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's or "Fireflies" by OwlCity, and went to a water park that I used to go to as a kid every year with my parents. It was a great time, and yet somewhat sad, knowing that you can't experience those things for the first time again but at the same time, all those things made you who you are today. Walking down memory lane was one of the best experiences of my life.

    My dad and I bought a big Lego kit for christmas 2019. We didn't have time to finish it (in fact we barely got started). I visited my parents and got stuck at their place during the first lockdown in March last year and we finished it. I brought down all my boxes of Lego from the attic, cleaned and sorted them and put them back up there. I got really sentimental when I found some of the stuff I built 20 years ago...

    I have been watching this series as I read my manga. I can get pretty engaged with what you are saying even as I read something else. This balance is overthrown with the inclusion of visual media you reference directly as you talk that feels required to understand the full context of what you are saying. 2:18 specifically threw me off. I'm kind of irked, but otherwise enjoy the series! :D
    Definitely relate on Mario Galaxy, though. I've recently been playing it again on Switch and I can't get enough.
    I think it's interesting how you use the word "samey" again. It sounds (for me) very unnatural to hear again and creates a weird connection to the paste use(s) when something like that happens. That said, no matter how you look at it, that is a very natural thing to do. It's fresh in your mind and fits proper, so the alphabet-soup in your skull spits it out again.

    Really nice video, loving the series so far! I also quite enjoy the added visuals of knex and jigsaws, but maybe you should be careful not to overdo it. Some people might want to watch this as an audio podcast and will be frustrated they can't see what you are talking about, or maybe you will start to go down in the rabbithole of editing everything properly, better and better until they become like real videos, after which you stop making them as it's too exhausting to keep up the high standards you set for yourself. Or maybe I'm just rambling and you know what you are doing :)
    Thanks for reading and have a good day~

  • @dylansantosh3398
    @dylansantosh3398 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually ended up getting the free knex from my dad when I was younger, to think that some of these toys have been around for so long, and to think that my kids will later get whatever was my form of entertainment whatever it will be at that time.
    Knex, lego's and other building type toys wont have a place in a home in a couple of dozen years, however, all this will be replaced by smart toys, where playing and technology are combined. These things already exist, hopefully they will spark the next generations imagination as much as knex did for me.

    At a daycare with about 30 kids, we had a lego set and a knex set. For some reason, we had elitists that would choose one over the other and stand by their choice. I don't remember why I got bullied alot at the time, but I would always combine lego and knex for some awesome looking contraptions. A toyota supra lego shell, with a knex roll cage, tires, and suspension. Of course, it would get smashed by the bigger kids before it was finished, but the challenge of secrecy and hiding the main project as I built it made me develop the ability to lose highly valuable and important things in the house. Where the hell are my car keys?

    Knex are fun.
    They did not exist when I was a kid.
    In retirement I have discovered them as quite relaxing.
    I found a great experienced builder challenge.
    The imitation K'nex style "Build A Coaster" kit.
    Brand names FAO Swartz or Sharper Image or Discovery.
    All connectors are black and all rods are blue or all red.
    Instructions are in black and white.
    The track is the old incompatible metal pin type.
    I found one for $5 at a thrift store still in plastic bags.
    The web reviews are almost all negative.
    It will be a personal challenge to see if I can make it work.
    In any case, I get a bunch of micro parts cheap.
    Peace
