Psycho-Pass once again; the greatest anime of all time. But, in my previous videos there’s been a theme; Makishima. But, there was something mostly missing; Akane. I was always so focused on the other two, I didn’t slow down to look at the junior inspector, and how much she added to this world. Sure, she’s the middle ground framing for the more extremely conflicted characters, an audience surrogate to make this world feel natural, and a love interest for easy emotion, but there’s also so much more to her. From her humble beginnings, to her badass conclusion, it’s time we give her some proper attention.
#Anime #PsychoPass #Akane
Makashima was ignored by the System, Kogami was hated by System. Well, Akane is the System sweet lovable daughter. The fact that she is fighting it, show's how much strong and honest her values are.
Really one of the best anime caracters ever
Finally a more detailed analysis on Akane. She is one of my favourite main characters of all time and it was a pleasure to listen to someone else take a deeper look into her character arc.
I'm happy I could provide! Thanks for watching!
I just watch Psycho Pass Providence. It really proves Akane is the most awesome character in Psycho Pass World. Her views on Justice & Law are beyond common people & she really confident in proving her conviction even take extreme action by herself
i really fell in love with this anime. Usually after a month or two i kinda somewhat forget about animes when i finish them, but psycho pass and akane just stuck with me. I cant shake off the emotions and feeling i got during watching it
It took me multiple watches to even get into how impactful akane is. The emotions created by Makishima and Kogami are more obvious because they are seeking to enforce their will over others'. Akane tempers her own desires, and so her emotions so much as well. That's random rambling from me, but oh well haha
Psycho pass IS the greatest of all time. More people need to watch it tbh
100% agreed. It's well know, but could also be more well known. And should be
No its not the greatest thats only your opinion
It didn’t make me feel the way black lagoon did
If I believed in mandatory education, I would put Psycho-Pass as required course material.
It is: "Society and Humanity: An epic summary of lessons thusfar."
Pay attention kids, the criminals run the system, humans are livestock, fear is freedom, subjugation is liberation, contradiction is... Wait, that's the 102 course material. We have to get you into thinking about cartoons as serious business, first."
Joking aside, there is a sort of "four corners" of Anime legends. Three of which belong to Gin Urobuchi. Psycho-Pass, Madoka Magica, and Fate/Zero. "Welcome to humanity, here is an animated guide. Don't make contracts with stuffed animals, kings are leaders who embody the will of their followers - by the way be careful how much you sacrifice for a miracle, and the reason why you feel like the system is criminal is because that's who runs it."
Then Kill la Kill "actually, an alien parasite runs the world and learn to become the Man Empress of Mankind." ... You'd get it if you watch If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device.
@@Aim54Delta I wholly agree with you, on this.
Anime like Psycho pass And Monster, are great representations of the human psyche, and society.
People generally watch things for entertainment, but forget to assimilate the values imparted. And even if they do, they for get the most important aspect. Implementation of those ideals in our lives.
People watch and forget. Ideals, values, and virtues are present, not to be admired, but to be followed.
The higher value of righteousness, must always take precedence over the (relatively)lower value of practicality.
I'm not usually that invested with fictional characters but she's incredibly tough that I just can't help root for her. She's like the better version of Naegi from Danganronpa, the unwavering hope. As time goes on, she becomes more badass while still being the same kind person.
Exactly, she grows very naturally, and without simply changing to someone new, the mark of some excellent development
I love Akane and how she sticks to her ideals. Though knowing me I'd have chosen the path of destruction. It was society's choice to live under the Sybill system but I couldn't accept being forced under an AI thumb deciding what's best for me. Or at least let it live long enough for laws and a new type of enforcement for them could be established. It's feels so lazy to have something decide what's right and wrong without you having to test your own moral code.
Understandable but even so she wouldn't dare risk her life
Hello that’s exactly what akane thinks? She wants people to decide for themselves and to never stop thinking; these are all valid but it stays that chaos will just ensue after Sybil is gone, she admits Sybil’s good points as much as she downright says whats wrong with it, and as long as there is no long time solution she will make sure blood will not be shed and if that’s alleviated by keeping sybil around then she will protect them however she can
Fantastic video my man, always great to see some more Psycho-Pass content. A video on Ginoza and Masaoka's relationship would have some really good topics to cover I think. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! : D I'm glad to see you liked it, and I'll probably be making that Ginoza/Masaoka not too far from now!
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been writing about Psycho-Pass for a long time in Tumblr and it’s just beautiful to find someone who loves this anime so much as I do. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad I was able to provide a bit more Psycho-Pass for you : )
Akane is so underrated, ily her.
Very much so. I'm guilty myself of missing such a great character under two male leads, but I'm happy I was able to make a few more passes and appreciate one of the strongest, and most well developed characters in anime
I have always loved Akane. I love the growth we see from her over the course of the series, how she gains skills from following Masaoka and then Kogami absorbing the skills she needs to be a first rate inspector. I really appreciated your analysis of her and her role in the series. Very cool.
Makishima wants to destroy Sibyl. Kogami wants to weaken Sibyl's control on the final decision. Akane wants to move Sibyl forward till it itself understands its own flaws. notice how each goal becomes Orders of magnitude more complex than the last. shows you how childish and selfish Makishima in the end really was, basically insulting his illusion of grandness. You can argue that "Makishima wants to destroy Sibyl to free the people'' but we all know the truth is he just wants it for himself disregarding anything or anyone else.
Yeah if he really was doing it for the people he wouldn't have caused all the murders
Honestly, makishima's actions really showed his extremism. He didn't do it for the people. He did it for his own amusement that he gets when he sees the primitive and almost beast-like nature of people. He was an anarchist
All the desires are selfish in nature
The virgin normie Ginoza vs the Chad societal skeptic Akane
hey don't do ponytail man like that
I learned a bit more about Akane with this video. Thanks for sharing.
No problem, thanks for watching! Glad I could help : D
I want to also make vedio on kagari I know many people not considered him favourite but he is to think he become latent criminal at age of 5 he seem to be funny but actually see him as an introvert guy whose life has been stolen by sybl and also vedio on masao and ginoza I really miss them
I want you to make vedio on kagari he did not get what he deserves
I'll probably make a video on the more side characters some day, particularly Kagari because I do love the moments he gets! He's a lowkey favorite, but the main cast is just so strong
@@ProfessorViral thankyou ❤️
great video man. really gave me deeper insight into the show and raised new questions about our modern society today.
A video on gino would be great
I don’t think he hated enforcers in season 1: his anger was more towards kogami and his father (spoiler fuck you) and akane being around them and learning from them made him jealous.
If I remember correct he says something like “kogami was always your favorite” to Masaoka, he also talks about how he was hurt by his best friend and father becoming enforcers because he feel like they abounded him. I feel like his “hate” for enforcers is because he blames Sasayama on kogami demotion and his “lose” of his only friend.
In conclusion I don’t think gino hates enforcers or akane in season 1 but If I remember they said he was bullied because of his dads latent criminal status till kogami came to his defense. He lost his dad and his only friend And it hurts him and it shows, he’s just jealous that people were able to get closer to his Father and friend then he was able to
There's also a lot of insecurity and fear in Gino's actions.
He's the son of a Enforcer, his only friend is a Enforcer and his aptude was to be A FUCKING COP. Anyone would be really aware of the possible implications even without the bullying in the childhood.
Gino cant stand sane without dehumanizing his dad and friend, because if he acepts them he's afraid all his traumas and insecurities will drag him to be a Enforcer (what actually does happe in the end). The way he acts is way more a move to protect himself than actually hating / being hurt / being angry at them.
what a great coincidence I looked to see if anyone went into great detail on akane.
Akane Tsunemori is absolutely the most cutest, genius and full of potential ani-female character ever. But they did her dirty in season 2 for not making her character development as good as she was in season 1. And they legit just made her AFK in season 3 (locked up) 🤦
Even though she ain't special to Sibyl (criminally assymptomatic) she was the most genius and useful, most realistic female ani-character ever. Imo, the s4 protagonist's ability (the rain is falling) didn't make any sense, so unrealistic how can someone just wear headset and listen to blurry tv sound, was capable to construct the crime scene before it even happened? I know it's cool but it's just doesn't feel right tbh.
Im glad someone shares the same point of view as me, they knew that First Inspector was a mess with that "rain" thing that's why they decided to make a prequel called "psycho-pass providence" when they show what happened to Akane that time , it was released in Japan 12th May but only in theatres , from the trailer i can say they did a good job
i wish we folowed akane's story all the time. Season 1 was the best.
I would consider Akane to be Lawful Good/Light on an alignment spectrum. Overall I think that the Sibyl system or at least the status quo that it upholds is firmly in Lawful Evil, and that was the case even before learning the truth, a system that judges people by their thoughts and not their actions is extremely unjust and is also the root cause for every single other flaw within the system the very foundation of society under the Sibyl system is flawed.
The reasons Akane has for supporting the system are not wrong, and if she was not willful enough to try to reform the system then I couldn't consider her to be Good, but there is value in trying to reform a system which is flawed at it's very foundation, as the consequences of destroying it may be to great to bear. Her motivations are in the right place and although she cooperates with Evil she does not do so cowardly out of fear, but rather conditionally out of compromise.
Are you planning to wqtch Psycho Pass Providence?
A lot of things happened and it addresses some of the questions that were not answered in s3 and First Inspector.
Pretty great video on one of the best female leads in anime, at least in season 1. It's been awhile since I saw the animated movie and first two seasons on the show, haven't seen season 3 yet, but it's seems like the most you can do for akane's character now would be to make her a mentor perhaps to an entirely new main cast of characters. It would make sense considering her main goal now is to help develop society to a point to where it doesn't need civil. To me the biggest problem is there hasn't been any new characters that have the complexity and chemistry of the previous cast. Hopefully season 4 will change that.
22:14 End of 2015 movie is way better thematic conclusion to Akane than s1. In s1 it's really still all idealistic talk, even though of course she already developed plenty. But the narrative not giving her her way on several levels is the very proof that she has yet to learn to integrate her ideals into the world. And so she does - in the movie.
This is fair, I do think one of the only strong scenes of the movie is where she confronts the "leader." That is when she's able to act on her talk, so I should have included that here
studying psychology or just how wand why the human mind works by following Dr K's every word maks this kind of shows so interesting
I'm not sure which Dr K you're referencing, but looking at things with psychology in mind is always quite interesting!

Can we get an updated analysis after Providence??
I loved watching through your Psycho Pass series! Akane has long been my favorite character. Curious where your thoughts are now that Providence has had a wide release.
Nice video! I'd love to see a video about Ginoza
Thanks! I'll probably make that one in the coming months, we all know I can't stay away from Psycho-Pass haha
Can you make an analysis with Kogami's relationship with Akane? And if ever they will have a chance to be together?
When I was watching the series, I was expecting the show to reveal Akane to be actually a genetically modified human, the fated human interface between Sibyl and the society.
Oh god, that would have been something haha
@@ProfessorViral In my opinion that might be the only reason her hue always remains clear despite she is not an asymptomatic person. Also the only reason Sibyl went lenient on her time and again.
Great video! I stumbled upon your page after watching the First Inspector movie and seen your discussion video on Akane and with how the movie ended Akane will be working with Mika again probably in pp4. Would you ever do a character discussion on Mika? I don't like her character at all (partly because of how she'd go against Akane in pp2 and had a hand in Aoi's death) and I know she's basically a counter to Akane so it would be interesting to hear a discussion video from you about her character. I know this is a reach but do you think Akane would ever find out Mika had a hand in her grandmother's death? Keep up the good work! It's great to see people still talking Psycho-Pass.
Me : sits to watch the video
The video : **Spoilers for Psycho pass 1-3 ahead**
Me who has only watched the first season : okay I'll be back after bingeing those two seasons
While I do like Akane I have problem with the fact that she basically keeps fixing the system temporarily. some person breaks all their weapons goes on a killing spree and causes mass panic Sibyl ignores it and eliminates anyone who knows or questions the truth. By the end I was hoping she would completely fix the system. Artists or consumers of any kind of not accepted music, art , etc are being forced to rehabilitate or worse. People whose hues rose due to seeing cops making bodies explode may be subject to the same fate. After fully understanding all this and the fact that the system is run by psychopaths who didn't get caught the people she was meant to catch gave Sibyl actual blows.
That's actually what I love about her. I'm admittedly more aligned with Kogami or Makishima; I would rather tear down the system outright. But Akane is able to see the longer game. It's not perfect, Sibyl will continue to hurt people while it exists, but she avoids the chaos and suffering that would follow a lack of Sibyl as well. And she personally despises it, but as someone who was once complacent sees its necessity and benefit as well. It's unsatisfying, and I love the confidence of the crew to make that decision for the narrative of Psycho-Pass
It would be more fun if she finally takes an initiative by herself to reveal the true face of sibyl
I think it's better than she hasn't so far, but the likely conclusion is her, probably with the others, revealing it
Then it wouldn't be Akane, think that is the diff between Makashima & her as explained in this brilliant essay
It is notable that for a dystopia it is almost utopian, the rest of the world is basically worse yet Sybil has a society where people are almost unfamiliar with violence and hardship.
That's why I love Psycho-Pass so much. It's a "dystopia" that makes you question if it really is. And every character presents a view of if it is or not
@freedom_3742 With how the world of Psycho-pass operates, yeah. Plus their government has been shown to change it's mind. For a dystopia it isn't that bad for a lot of people. Plus the idea that violence is such an alien thought to them is awesome, I prefer that over the multiple mass killings today lmao.
I think the German voice of Kogami is better :D. I Love Psycho Pass
Can't say I've heard him in German myself... yet
@@ProfessorViral Give his German Voice a try. XD
Will you re-examine everything, now that a year has passed since Providence came out? What do you think of Akane's conclusion there?
Yes. Please go ahead with Ginoza and Masaoka. Anything Psycho-pass please go ahead. The writers need to go back to the original formula of Psycho-pass s1. 🤞🏾
I'll have to keep that in mind, I haven't talked about Psycho-Pass for a while. Only a few months, but thats a long time for me 🤣
I think S2 and the movie is ALL about Akane, it represent her final and real relation with the System: A Negotiator.
She is the only one capable of negotiating Sybel system!!
Best girl in all of anime imo
I don't have many characters where I say "best x," so Akane isn't that for me, but she's overall one of the best characters. She's the only spark of light in season two as well, which shows how excellent she is lol
Never stop making this content. U can always try with BHA and others later.
Would u take a look at ID:Invaded?
She’s… so… fucking… cute…
Great female character
I want you to make vedio on kagari ❤️
She is the best girl. But when she was arrested I was so shocked … So I quit watching psycho pass even though I love it very much and consider as one is the best anime …
I'll have to see how it's reasoned in the conclusion, but her being locked up sits odd me with because Sibyl allowed her to remain free with the truth due to her being an ideal citizen, one of the main themes of season one. Locking her up feels contrary to that
They did her dirty in season 2 for not making her character development as good as she was in season 1. And they legit just made her AFK in season 3 (locked up) 🤦
Even though she ain't special to Sibyl (criminally assymptomatic) she was the most genius and useful, most realistic female ani-character ever.
But she'll be back as an enforcer in season 4 coming this year! This is confirmed because the Bifrost dude demand her release and he wants her to return to MWPSB as enforcer. CAN'T WAIT!!
Good news, she is liberated in the First Inspector, and become second in command under Mika, you should see her face when the new Minister told her the news, and the new movie Providence that would come out in 14 of June would explain how she ended in Prison.
@@AriStrX500RRpsycho-pass providence is a prequel of First Inspector that was released in Japan only as a theatrical version, Akane didn't become an enforcer as her crime coefficient didn't increase, we gonna know what really happened before 2023 ends
Love Psycho pass. You need to up the volume on your mic though.
Is there any news about the 4th saison??
4:00 he says the same thing 3 times 😅
Okay, not going to lie, first viewing; I didn't like Akane. Yet second viewing I understand her choices and wanting to save her friend. Yet I will give Psycho Pass a pass when I was rooting for the Villian and the Anti-Hero side kick.
I never disliked her, but I never gave her the proper attention because of Kogami and Makashima being so stellar. But, once I got a grip on those two, I saw how great a character see was on later pases
Same... I also did not like her... Not her run throughout the episodes... But the choice she made in season 1... She indirect caused her members to be punished by the system even more and lose more... And the guy she was with, I think Kogami, I liked him and I am so sad of what happened to him..
Maybe I should watch this anime again to see why people liked her and the other look towards it
Why she was arrested?
As much as I loved psycho-pass, I don't see it that way, Akane is as forced a character as are the series's villains.
yo what's that jazz playing you out?
The final song is called "Miles Beyond," I got it from the TH-cam Audio Library
🥰
You make really good video essays about PP, but... why do you watch it with ENG dub? Cause it´s totally awfull...
the english dubs provide a cleaner format for video essays, and they also make it much easier for me personally. When I can hear rather than read, it makes my process quicker
I've seen psycho pass till srason 2 and movies but one thing i can say akane is worst, I've never hated a character as much as i hate akane, seeing her everytime boils my blood.. I don't know where the concept of being cool and badass coming up defending her actions...
It's clearly are the people who don't have knowledge of anything related political views, ideologies, thinkere theie concepts, etc it's just everyone trying to justify her actions through so called "utopia" vision..
Whether we see it by james mill, Jeremy Bentham, adam smith, ronald dworkin, Hobbes, amarteya sen, Michael Walzer, john rawls, g. H carr, js mill, max weber and tons of other thinkers yhat very made the foundations of democracy, justice and equality and literally guess what sibyl self proclaimed as true justice absolute democracy blah blah never adhere to these principles amd then we got akane blindly following sibyl even after knowing it's bad doings but still trying to correctify it by her dumbass justice!
Literally i can write tons of paragrapgh why Akane is just a b**** and she deserved to die a very horrible death
One can also argue makishima justification by karl marx views or by communitarian views but it seems like only kids have watched psycho pass who don't know a damn thing about all this and simping over her...
(she literally says at the end of season one that she is seeking to replace the Sibyl System with something else, but is looking for a better solution than simply destroying it outright because that would lead to the same chaos makishima caused, where possibly hundreds of thousands of innocent people die and the future is uncertain in a world where Japan is the only stable country left on Earth)
@ProfessorViral Your perspective completely misses the broader context of justice and equality, both in Psycho-Pass and in real-world philosophy. Thinkers like John Rawls define justice as “fairness,” where the system must ensure equal opportunities for all, and liberty as the freedom to act without oppressive control. Sibyl violates these ideals by being an unelected, autocratic system that judges and disposes of people based on an arbitrary Psycho-Pass score, completely disregarding individual autonomy and fairness. Equality, as envisioned by thinkers like Rousseau, requires that no individual or group holds absolute power over others-something Sibyl directly contradicts by monopolizing authority through its hidden network of criminal brains.
Akane’s unwavering faith in this system is a direct betrayal of these principles. For instance, she justified Kagari’s death and continued to enforce Sibyl’s rule even after learning its true nature. Instead of questioning the systemic injustice, she applied her so-called “justice” in ways that perpetuate Sibyl’s tyranny, like when she arrested Makishima despite knowing his actions exposed the system’s flaws. Akane argues that removing Sibyl would cause chaos, but history shows otherwise. Oppressive systems like the British Empire and the USSR were dismantled through collective revolt, paving the way for more democratic and just societies.
Akane, with her position in the Public Safety Bureau, has the influence to at least challenge Sibyl or advocate for an alternative. Yet, she chooses to maintain the status quo, all while calling it “justice.” This hypocrisy undermines the very essence of justice, liberty, and equality. If anything, Akane is an enabler of Sibyl’s tyranny, not a beacon of fairness. True justice isn’t about preserving a flawed system; it’s about challenging it to create a better one.
@ProfessorViral and i also refuse to believe as if we go by data it's clearly showing japan economy has facing stagnation and Japan overall facing population crisis so saying that Japan is the only country able to thrive in future seems awkward, as in movie no clear explanation was given why there's chaos everywhere and I'm refuse to believe that nations like America, European nations, China, Russia who having far better promising future than Japan ended up facing existential crises! As good as Psychopass is, I really hate her character design.
Although it doesn't stand out, or really appeal in many ways, I like that about it. It fits with her being more of a watcher, learning the ways of this world as we do. And, I give season two credit for lightly evolving that design to invoke more confidence, with a more constant smirk and an outfit that differs from her crew more. But, it's still valid that it isn't a special design in many ways
I actually really like it. She's fairly attractive, but to an extent that feels believable.
I don't think Akane would fit well into the world of Psycho-Pass if she had an over the top, gorgeous character design. IMO, I think Akane would have felt more like a typical y/a fiction protagonist which I think if she seemed that way, would make her feel a lot more annoying in an anime which is otherwise much more on the mature side.
You know you repeat yourself at least twice in almost every video, right?
Is this saying I repeat the same exact words, or make similar statements?
@@ProfessorViral in this one, you repeat the same sentence twice around the 3:52 mark and ending at the 4:06 mark. You did it a couple times in your Black Lagoon videos as well. Not that it's a problem, when I get wrapped up in talking about something I have a passion for, I tend to lose myself and repeat the same 3-4 paragraphs or sentences at least 8-9 times without really knowing it. It's not an issue that bugs me too much, but I was just wondering if you knew about it.
