    Kougamis actions and views on the world are something that made me like him so much because I actually sided with him for most of the time trough the whole anime as crazy as it sounds. He really showed what I wanted him to, to stay true to yourself and not let Makishima be free so more people could die because he loved his view of protecting people more than being happy with his life and overlooking things that happened to all the other people who died by Makishima. Such an amazing character really.

    • @ProfessorViral

      For sure, despite his want for revenge, he genuinely had a will to protect those around him and others, and acted on that to a fault. One of the most determined characters out there

      ProfessorViral yeah great stuff! Highly recommend. Monster was an inspiration to psychopass and the first Ed of psychopass is actually a reference to it. What I mean by this is the name of the Ed is monster without a name. The antagonist of monster states that he has no name. Also I love your psycho pass breakdowns because this show deserves so much more recognition as well as how intelligent the analysis are.

    Great video, all your videos are awesome. All characters in psycho-pass are some of the best in anime, but I feel Akane is the greatest of them all. All her quotes are pure gold, my favorite being: "The law doesn’t protect people. People protect the law. People have always detested evil and sought out a righteous way of living. Their feelings, the accumulation of those peoples feelings are the law. They’re neither the provisions, nor the system. They’re the fragile and irreplaceable feelings that everyone carries in their hearts."

    Gotta say, I'm glad you aknowledge the English Dubs. Most people don't, saying "they're not accurate to the original" which is BS anymore, if anything they're "adapting" them which is a much better job than if directly translated - which could get extremely confusing in certain instances.
    I wouldn't say Makishima & Kougami were Foils of eachother, just personifications of the flaws in the Sibyl System.
    Makishima, being a Text Book Psychopath, wouldn't have a Psycho Pass as he doesn't undersrand the concept of Morality in the first place.
    While, Kougami, is just a damn good detective with extremely high moral standards and will defend those standards, even if it means turning into the monsters he hunts.
    Where one is born a monster the other becomes one...
    *loved that shot of the Dominator toss btw 👌

    • @ProfessorViral
      @ProfessorViral  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've always been better with taking in a series when I can listen, and let my eyes do their own thing, so I just naturally landed with dubs. I've gotten comments about translation issues rarely, so I just stuck with it once I started. They do seem to do a pretty good job a majority of the time, and this cast was great all around.
      I guess the phrasing of foils is a bit misleading on my part. They're very similar characters, so it doesn't quite apply in the right way. But, they for sure exhibit a flaw each in their own way, and each serving as the apex of their specific struggle. Also, thank you, I just threw it and figured it looked cool enough 🤣

    Psycho-pass needs more attention, this masterpiece is able to refer from old books in great ways, as Makishima quoted the dystopian world in this work is "not as controlling as society George Orwell depicted in his work, and not as quite as wild as those in (William) Gibson's either".

    I would consider Kogami's alignment to be Neutral Good, he tries to do Good his own way, he doesn't try to destroy the system or uphold it, he just has a feeling of responsibility to do what is right now matter whether it be Lawful or not, because of that he constantly has to keep moving and running away to avoid fighting against the system he acts outside of, this is true even after leaving Japan as he drifts from place to place getting involved in other people's fights and doing what he thinks is right even if he has nothing to gain.

      The pendulum is in reference to their starting positions with respect to each other. When I say 'if they swapped,' they become the other pendulum, not a new one. One is Kogami and one is Makishima. They're extremely similar, but had a few different defining experiences

      @@ProfessorViral your analogy makes this unclear. A better metaphor would have been a Newton's cradle since they start at opposite ends but ultimately are attached by the same fate and only come to rest when the energy shared between them is exerted. There are others still than this - this makes your script seem rushed/unfinished.

      He has a pretty rapid change after episode two; Akane reignites the passion in him to not be a simple follower, the one he lost. • @Aurora-313

    I think that another piece of evidence to suggest/confirm that Kogami and Makishima are mirrors to each other is how they're introduced to Akane.
    Or rather, how they forced Akane to deal with a moral conundrum upon seeing them in action. Both of them held an execution's blade to a woman's throat. Kogami to the innocent victim in the 1st episode, Makishima in the 11th. Both of them dared Akane to take action in that situation. She took action in the first instance, 'passing' the test and earning Kogami's respect, regard and loyalty (perhaps a little more) while saving a woman's life. She failed Makashima's test, earning his disappointment and her paralysis cost a woman, a personal friend, her life.
    Just a brainwave I had while listening along.

  • @iamlordapollo
    @iamlordapollo ปีที่แล้ว

    It's actually very simple. The two men think identically. Thinking like a criminal is what effects your crime coefficient. If makishima wasnt asymptomatic, he would receive the exact same judgement as kogami every time a dominator is pointed at him. The scene where the helmet copies kogami's psychopass and masaoka says "all the way up to 282 now?" Sticks out to me because that's when kogami really starts to get in his head.
    Let's take that idea to the natural conclusion. Since makishima would be a latent criminal worthy of execution just like kogami if he could be judged, then logically Sybll is made up of hundreds of latent criminals just as terrible as he is. So the system that decides who is a criminal is a collective made up of the worst criminals in the world. Not so different from the real world if you ask me.
    I would also point out the cyborg hunter guy's interview. It was stated that a brain cannot be digitized and has a hard cap of 150 years before it dies. It also dies much quicker without regular stimulation. This means that the Sybll system itself has an expiration date of a few generations. Since asymptomatic people are one in 2 million, it's very unlikely they will be able to find, capture, and integrate enough of them to maintain the system forever. This also means the judgements they pass will become unreliable over time as more of the brains lose their vitality and die. Even if brains are periodically destroyed when their ability to judge is compromised like in season 2, that just serves to narrow down the system even more at a faster rate because there is surely a significant time gap between their judgement becoming erratic, and the actual death of the brain in question.

    I have to say I love the analysis, but I disagree with you on the point that Kogami's arc should have ended with Season 1. Particularly given all that we now know occurs (i.e. after the events of S3, FI and Providence). Season 1 Kogami IS as you say, Makishima's twin. But it is his choices outside of that narrative, and yet the infleunces of his coworkers (Akane in particular) that make him such a compelling character when he comes back. Because he does make that choice. He chooses tk re-enter the system that disdained him. And I think that makes for a compelling character. He is choosing to find the meaning and make the changes within the system that he hates and that hates him when he so easily could have continued on as he was. Plus getting to see the world beyond Sibyl no doubt made him better understand the picture as a whole.

    To me I don’t kogami being in the story more after season 1 to be it works as he is now out side the system and keep it mind him becoming like makishima makes sense as it was hint and told to use the in different situations they be the same person, so for be the best part of the movie is how they handle and develop his character. There is reason and philosophy behind it. The sinner movie is not bad either as it shows kogami in a tiny bit worse story still one that hit deep seeing him try not to teach someone revenge, that makes sense and kogami was philosophically deep character. To me the movies justified his character more it’s just he should have really came back into Japan, that takes away for me. The idea of protecting of over your self is his fault and that’s why his action in move and well sinners makes sense, why he come back is kinda to protect them but so just not as well done. Still I like the movies

    Why you're wrong is because you don't recognize Kogami is wrong.
    This world of comfort and scientific miracles was built upon dreams and wonder of the past where the creative emotional burst fueled said innovations and insights. If your system can't build it's own civilization but merely in a parasitic cancerous way suck off a previous version which could you can not grow.
    Kogami's world is doomed to stagnate and die.
