The opening scene of the first episode was such a killer introduction. I remember actually going back to check if I had clicked on the wrong show at first. But once I realized what was going on I was 100% hooked on the show right away. So clever.

The intro for the first episode is still probably one of my favorite moment of the series so far. The eerie tension that’s created where he perfectly predicts what’s to come to showing the whole audience and host being speechless and terrified and it was incredible.
7:40 YESSSSSSSS a perfect example of taking liberties and improving upon its story, Bill and Franks story was such a great episode. That episode alone gives me hope that season 2 will also make great changes to The Last of Us 2’s story while still respecting the main plot. I can not wait for season 2!
Soon as I saw that Craig Mazin was showrunner, I knew this was going to be awesome. Troy mentioned the amount of detail they got right, and judging from how astronomically right the Chernobyl show was in terms of detail, it was absolutely no surprise he did the same here. Amazing.
As someone who played the original game 6 times in a row when it first came out, I didn't know if Pedro was the right fit. Until I saw the Sarah death scene. Somehow, he made it hit even harder. He killed it, and I was wrong. Nobody can replace Troy. Troy is Joel. Pedro is just the live action Joel.

i love the last of us greatly both games and show, comparing the game to the show, the game is clearly written to be a game, joel is this badass beast of a man. but what the show did differently is that their joel is more fatherly more often, even when he doesnt know it himself, and that made the game more personal for me, pedros joel reminds me of my own father, a stoic man but one with lame dad humor (the very same humor that i have HAH) in some of the later episodes he even has the same fucking hair like my dad (the overgrown "i wasnt asleep what are you talking about" hair) and i recognised myself in some of ellie. sooo long story short..... season 2 is gonna make me cry EVEN MORE than game 2 did.
I’m just gonna say it the show version of Joel just did not feel like Joel to me. I definitely wouldn’t go so far as to say I hated it but Joel (and Ellie for that matter) just feel like almost entirely different people to me. Is that a bad thing? I suppose that’s a pretty subjective question to answer but it is noticeable. For the record I actually had no bias going into the show. I some how never managed to play the game before the show came out so I really had no expectations. Having watched the show first and then playing the game I have to say the game did it better in every way. All this to say I think Troy baker and Ashley Johnson absolutely crushed their performances!
I think the show butchered the interrogation scene "the stab on the knee and slap, focus up right here..." With the music in the game too on that scene. It showed joel as caring, but that scene showed how cut throat joel was
Why does Troy always talk as though he's the writer, game dev and director of things instead of the VA/mocap or actor in the game and show? It's so very odd to me with his "I need to do this if you're on the stick, or not if it's in the show..." He's not creating the game nor the show, he's enacting what others have created/written. It really sounds strange the way he tries to own the whole process that way.
Neill Druckmann is great, and I can appreciate the excitement for the show. But my God they really dumbed it down, and I dunno whether it was for the benefit of the less literate or what. 9 episodes was ridiculously short for an HBO show. Both TLOU games had the same level of subtlety and subtext that classics like The Sopranos, The Wire, early Game of Thrones. Both games left a lot of searching up to the players. Even David’s true motives are questionable (yeah, I think he’s a paedo, but there’s still room to question whether that’s true or not, the fact that he refers to Joel as a “crazy man.”). The show stripped all that introspective storytelling and it almost feels like the writers didn’t trust the audience the way Druckmann trusted the players. It makes me wonder will Season 2 reach the same level as Part 2.
It wont, however imo it doesnt need to all it needs to be is adaption of the story we had in the games and just as season 1 did for part 1 bring a new audience to games. Hopefully season 2 could do the same... if you have played the games the show will never beat it cause we spent more time with the character plus waited 8 years for the sequel
@@slickstar96 You’re right. But I remember a long time ago when the second game came out, amidst the silly turmoil, I sat there like “This is literally an HBO show,” because all I could think was The Sopranos, in the sense that the basic story was there, but the interpretations surrounding it all were for everyone to look into. So imagine my reaction when I found out HBO had taken on the series? The best episode was Episode 3 with Bill and Frank. But it was the best for the wrong reasons. That could have been a show in itself, but what killed it for me was the moment it showed them and Joel and Tess having a nice dinner in the sunshine. It felt like the world wasn’t half as dangerous as it was the games.
@@well1012 @well1012 i definetly hear it. The infected and being as dangerous as the game was one of the main criticism of the show and the creators have talked how they are going to amp it up for next season so we'll just have to wait and see ... ep3 for me personally is mixed its a culmination of the whole theme of the story which i like but because we only have 9 episodes in total. It feels like it dampens on ellie and joel relationship which i feel you need with the story and this will have ripples on S2 because that same love and push and pull of the relationship pushes ellie to do the things she does in p2
I liked this show when I first saw it. But then overtime I started to like it less and less. There were things I didn’t like while I was watching it but I kinda ignored those things in the beginning. But when you take a step back and look at the show as a whole it’s nothing compared to the game. Cutting away from our two main characters to show the talk show scene (Unnecessary/Doesn’t inform us of what the stories actually going to be about and is just exposition. And no the story’s not about the apocalypse btw for any of you smartasses out there), Jakarta scene (Which is my favorite btw/No Shade), Bill and Frank (Yes this one’s overrated as fuck and doesn’t serve a purpose at all to the story), and the shit in Kansas City is just dumb. Even the beginning scene from episode 9 was unnecessary. We don’t need to know where Ellie came from and in an already short ass episode they spend the first 10-15 minutes giving us a backstory that we already knew about. Marlene promising to watch over Ellie and take care of her. The show only spent like half of its time with Joel and Ellie and for the first episode of Season 2 which I guarantee a lot of you TV people out there aren’t ready for, because you have no idea. The relationship between the two of them needs to work by the end of the first season. In the end it came out rushed, disjointed and feeling kinda like a CW show like The 100 or something. Show 6/10. Game 10/10.
Troy Baker should play Martin Luther King Jr! He would be the best ever choice for the role of MLK Jr. Except Laura Bailey would make an equally good Harriet Tubman. If they make a movie about those two I hope Baker and Bailey are chosen.
@shulk2494 Indeed he would which makes it all the more funny why people go ahead and make it anyway, when making this comment would probably frame you as kind of an asshole in Troy's mind.
@@shulk2494 He would disagree with it; I don't think he would *hate* it. Everyone's entitled to opinions. I think Troy was a much better Joel than Pedro also.
I usually agree with what Troy has to say about these games, but I disagree on the Ish story. That 100% should’ve been made instead of making up a story between bill and frank. I loved their story and it was well told, but it’s not the game and Ish IS, all fans want to know what’s up with Ish, but we didn’t get it.
I don’t care too much about Troy. He accepted to portray Neil Druckman’s vision - yes it was beautiful. No, he doesn’t have a backbone. Get this gentleman off my feed.
Joel Part I is my favorite, cold and brutal like a mf. Part II Joel is soft as hell that is why he was golf clubbed to death. TV show Joel is like meh.
I think people would’ve been able to buy into the more weaker and vulnerable Joel with someone like Nikolaj Waldu or Josh Brolin in the role. At the very least they could’ve cast someone who looks like the character. What a miss. Overall, I think the show is nowhere near as good as the game. It’s disappointing as a fan of the original source material. Troy Baker is being paid to praise it because he’s in it. I see right through it. 👍🏻 Episode 3 is nothing but LGBT propaganda.
Neil Druckmann's next Game is going to be DOA because of all the Woke Garbage is going to be in the Game, you want to know how I know, take a look at Unknown 9, Dusborn, Concord, GET WOKE GO BROKE
It’s just a shame radical Wokeness ruined the entire show and game series 😔. Part 2 has a 68% rating for a very good reason. People were furious to pay $60 only for 20+ hours of radical left wing ideology being crammed down their throats in every single scene. Wokeness only destroys.
I don't mind them being gay -- they were in the game. What I thought was unrealistic and ruined Bill's character was that he and Frank just live, like, pretty much normal, great lives for TWO DECADES in an Infected Apocalypse with all the food and wine they can eat and drink and NO ONE disturbs their little town too much (the booby traps weren't THAT good). Are you telling me there were no Hunters or the military or anyone who tried to take what they had? Except once in a blue moon. No Infected ruined their little party? (And where the heck do you get cancer medication -- or whatever it was that Frank had, I forget, it's been a while -- that's still effective after 20 years in an Apocalypse?). And Bill in the game was this jaded grump who thought caring for someone would get you killed. It was supposed to be sort of a mirror held up to Joel, like, this is what he could become if he kept on the way he was going and if Ellie hadn't come into his life. There was absolutely no interaction between Ellie and Bill which was a crime because it was a pretty fun part of the game version. TV Bill was just a watered down version of game Bill. (WAY watered down). And there was no run through the town with Bill, Joel and Ellie, no fight with Runners, Clickers and the Bloater at the school. I mean, c'mon, there weren't enough Infected in the show as it was. Then we just get that stupid, in-your-face letter that Bill leaves that Ellie reads. Saying Joel should find someone to care about. Oh, gee, thanks, is THAT what they were going for? We, the audience, are too stupid to figure that out, I guess. It's best if it's a slow burn with the interactions between the characters that Joel figures out he can start to care again. Not something people keep throwing at him like a ton of bricks. Like later, Henry saying, "You're not HER father, but you were SOMEONE'S." - Eesh, lay it on thick again why don't you. We GET it. There weren't enough episodes as it was for the show to just focus an entire ep on Bill and Frank and take away from Joel and Ellie. Then they threw that whole Katherine side nonsense. Everything felt rushed in the show, to me anyway. The game is so much better, even though I get what Troy is saying, seeing other layers of the same character in different ways. I just don't think the show did as good a job as they could have. Sorry -- this is LONG.
Wait, the guy who had gay porno magazines with pages stuck together, the only person he cared about was another man, who cried for and called his partner was gay? Who would've guessed? What's next? Are they gonna make Ellie, the girl who dated a girl like girls?
I completely agree. Cailee Spaeny would’ve from Alien Romulus would’ve been a much better fit. 👍🏻 Let’s not forget, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson are being paid to promote and praise it because they’re apart of it. As a fan of the original game, the show was disappointing, nowhere near as good as the game and I’ll have forgotten about it 10 years from now. What a shame.

There’s no way that rifle was 25lbs

Beat me to it.. “to the GRAVE”
Jesus troy! I haven't seen your face in a hot minute man you been breaking your back working on ds2 ??

I think the show butchered the interrogation scene "the stab on the knee and slap, focus up right here..." With the music in the game too on that scene.
It showed joel as caring, but that scene showed how cut throat joel was
Please add the video to your channel so I can watch it later ❤ love you Troy!
the game is better.
much better
i think they complement each other well
Halo show take notes
I’m so shocked at the fact that your southern accent is fake like holy GUACAMOLE I thought it was your real voice 😅
I want troy baker's reaction on Death stranding
My opinion troy deserves some other characters role

Why does Troy always talk as though he's the writer, game dev and director of things instead of the VA/mocap or actor in the game and show? It's so very odd to me with his "I need to do this if you're on the stick, or not if it's in the show..." He's not creating the game nor the show, he's enacting what others have created/written. It really sounds strange the way he tries to own the whole process that way.
I like his work but man he can be a bit long winded sometimes 🫠
Pedro, Bella and whoever plays tommy are all shite compared to the game😂😂
@@blake7587 tell me that you are racist scumbag without tell me you are racist scumbag:
Troy Baker >>> pedro pasco
Nah, both are great for different reasons.
troy baker would hate this comment lmao
@shulk2494 Indeed he would which makes it all the more funny why people go ahead and make it anyway, when making this comment would probably frame you as kind of an asshole in Troy's mind.
@@shulk2494 He would disagree with it; I don't think he would *hate* it. Everyone's entitled to opinions. I think Troy was a much better Joel than Pedro also.
@@mythra7174Pedro did AMAZING as Joel. I think it’s close, but Troy still takes it for me too
I usually agree with what Troy has to say about these games, but I disagree on the Ish story. That 100% should’ve been made instead of making up a story between bill and frank. I loved their story and it was well told, but it’s not the game and Ish IS, all fans want to know what’s up with Ish, but we didn’t get it.
Troy should have played the main villain 🙄
I don’t care too much about Troy. He accepted to portray Neil Druckman’s vision - yes it was beautiful. No, he doesn’t have a backbone. Get this gentleman off my feed.
Joel Part I is my favorite, cold and brutal like a mf. Part II Joel is soft as hell that is why he was golf clubbed to death. TV show Joel is like meh.
i whole heartedly disagree with him due to the steaming shit that is the halo show
I think people would’ve been able to buy into the more weaker and vulnerable Joel with someone like Nikolaj Waldu or Josh Brolin in the role. At the very least they could’ve cast someone who looks like the character. What a miss.
Overall, I think the show is nowhere near as good as the game. It’s disappointing as a fan of the original source material. Troy Baker is being paid to praise it because he’s in it. I see right through it. 👍🏻
Episode 3 is nothing but LGBT propaganda.
Ahww is someone feeling a bit insecure because characters who already in the games were gay and now in the show are also gay?😂
I hope they don’t kill Joel on the show. That would be an atrocity as it was in the video game.
xD
Neil Druckmann's next Game is going to be DOA because of all the Woke Garbage is going to be in the Game, you want to know how I know, take a look at Unknown 9, Dusborn, Concord, GET WOKE GO BROKE
It’s just a shame radical Wokeness ruined the entire show and game series 😔.
Part 2 has a 68% rating for a very good reason.
People were furious to pay $60 only for 20+ hours of radical left wing ideology being crammed down their throats in every single scene.
Wokeness only destroys.
The Last of Us TV Show is a PileOf Woke Garbage, the only reason why Neil Druckmann and the Showrunners mad Bill and Frank Gay is to Virtue Signal
They were gay from the beginning. Ellie finding a male porn mag from Bills stash was always in the game.
You know Bill is gay in the game, right?
Nothing but propaganda. Anyone who tells you they cried watching episode 3 is completely brainwashed. 👍🏻
They casted the show so terribly. I’m sorry but Bella Ramsey is THE WORST CHOICE for Ellie.
I completely agree. Cailee Spaeny would’ve from Alien Romulus would’ve been a much better fit. 👍🏻
Let’s not forget, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson are being paid to promote and praise it because they’re apart of it.
As a fan of the original game, the show was disappointing, nowhere near as good as the game and I’ll have forgotten about it 10 years from now. What a shame.
Every time James in the show talks I hear Joel 😢😢😢, don’t get me wrong I like Pedro he was good in the Mandolorian too but I think with an little bit of work Troy’s reprisal of Joel would of been so goooood.
